I’m 61 and recently began to have problems with my blood pressure, with my readings being as high as 160/100 but averaging around 156/95. I historically don’t have a history of high blood pressure, but it does run in my family. Before putting me on medication, the doctor suggested that I try and make some lifestyle changes, which I was more than happy to do instead of taking pills. I altered my diet…cut out the cakes and pastries, (which was hard as I’m a cake monster) pretty much stopped eating anything that came in a packet (processed food) and cut right down on my salt intake. Things I introduced - oatmeal for breakfast, with nuts, fruits, and ground flaxseeds, introduced salads, homemade vegetable based smoothies, and home cooked meals into my diet (I’ve not had any takeaway food now for two months). I also take a fish-oil capsule every day. Lastly, I got active, aiming for 7000 steps per day. It was difficult at first, but now 2 months later, I’m doing it with ease. My most recent BP readings are now averaging around 127/83. Still not optimal but for 2 months into my journey I’m happy - this is now my new lifestyle and I’m confident I’ll get it down further. This stuff works, you just have to be prepared to make the changes…..oh and as a bonus, I’ve lost a little bit of weight too. Update to my comment: 1 month after I wrote this comment my average BP is now at 119/78 - I have my review in 3 weeks time, where the doctor was going to discuss putting me on BP medication. It could just be that I may be able to escape the pills for now……
Your blood pressure numbers have never been alarmingly high. Now that you are into healthy living, there are no circumstances under which you should allow yourself to take any blood pressure meds with their many side effects. You got this!
This video is excellent. At 69 years old I found out that my blood pressure was higher than it should be. This came as a bit of a shock as it used to be low in the past. My cholesterol was also higher than desired. I cut out full fat foods like butter, cheese, full fat yoghurt and milk, ice cream and cakes etc. I did not eat beef or lamb but I cut out pork and processed meats. I significantly reduced the amount of chicken and turkey in my diet. I liked salmon, haddock and tuna so I continued these alongside eating lots of fruits and vegetables, legumes and nuts. I added avocado and reduced my salt intake. I take magnesium, salmon oil, some multivitamin, vitamin d and extra vitamin c supplements. I started brisk walking while listening to audio books as my exercise of choice. I walk for at least thirty minutes (generally a little longer) twice a day, seven days a week. In March 2024 my b.p. averaged 144/88 and it is now is 107/73. My cholesterol has also reduced. I have lost over 19% of my body weight but I am working to put back a little as I am now in the "underweight" category.
Hi..we have a similar situation..im also trying to put on more pounds because of the diet that i changed when my fbs and cholesterol elevated..After 45mins of walking everyday and started to diet for 3months,my lab results and bp are back to normal..Now, im underweight and trying to gain more pounds .Now i eat everything moderately..my cardiologist tells me not to restrict myself of the food i want to eat but to do it moderately..also,to eat 6 small meals or to have snacks in between 3 meals..fruits and veggies are favorable and yes im back to half cup of rice every meals and dark chocolates too..but no to soda drinks..
@@gildamarco292 thank you for your reply. I am glad that I am not the only one. Let's hope we can both put some weight back on. As you say "moderation." I shall try that. Good luck.

I’m now 80. In my 60’s was still doing marathons. Had a quad bypass when 68. 4 years ago I had some minor swelling in my feet and was inactive eating lots of breads and pasta and potatoes. l Cleaned up my diet. Lost 40 lbs. and started walking. Now walk 5 miles/day 365 days/year (rain snow sun doesn’t matter). Went from 3 meds for BP to none.
I realize this is an old video, but I have to say after having a stroke due to high blood pressure a year ago you have always been my best help. I have gone from doctor to doctor, realizing they have nothing to offer as far as rehabilitation and recovery. If a pill won’t work, they have no other answers. I get shunned by every doctor because I refuse to take a bunch of medication. I’m 70 years old and have never had a prescription drug until this blood pressure medication. I hate the way it makes me feel I hate the way it causes me to swell up and retain water and hate the depression. I’ve been afraid to exercise because of the blood pressure due to the precautions that you give but now I feel I have a good idea how to do it. You have always given me hope and this video in the world was connected to have been the most helpful since my stroke a year ago November. Thank you Dr. story I just love you.!
I can't do any impact exercises such as jumping or running. I do swimming. Exercise in the pool. Take advantage of any daily routine stretching, bending, leaving things a few extra steps away from myself. I've never been an intense athlete, but always did manual labor jobs: Caregiving, gardening, yard work. Always loved movement. Until I retired, then suddenly COVID hit & isolation. Now the HBP. I never had COVID. Not even a sniffle. But ....
Here’s my experience: Been on blood pressure medication for decades (GP and cardiologists on autopilot & I was ignorant). A year ago I changed my lifestyle. More exercise, started intermittent fasting 16-8, usually no more than 2 meals a day, sometimes 1 (‘OMAD’). Drastically lowered my intake of carbs and sugar (keto-ish but not religiously keto). Avoiding processed foods and focus on real food. Took care of my vitamin D (I’m in the 60 - 80 ng/ml range now; I think the mountain of recent scientific data convincingly shows that 50 ng/ml is the minimum for optimal health for most). Some other supplements like the ones you mention. I halved / skipped my meds without consulting my GP (I once suggested we reduce and see what happens, but he didn’t want to ‘change a winning team’), I did not get on the scale or checked my blood pressure for a year. When I checked recently, I lost 9,5 kg, my blood pressure readings are now normal (around 20 points down compared to one year ago - and that without the bulk of the meds, mind you), my BMI went down from 29 to 26.3 (fine for my age). I keep learning and vids like yours help me fine tune. To anybody who is skeptical: Lifestyle trumps meds big time and it’s never too late to improve your health and fitness. I’m an old fart and I managed it pretty well. Adam, you’re telling a true story. Thanks for that!
Thank you very much Doc. It has really inspired me. I have been a high BP patient for the last 22 yrs. My last reading Three days ago was 120/70. I don't know exactly what I could have done right because at times goes up to 198/110. I will certainly follow your advice to keep my BP low. Stay well and BLESSED.
This guy is so good because he doesn't have a horse in the diet race, but includes all diet kinds and honors their function. This allows good logic that gets to the roots of therapy regarding food. We'll done for for being pragmatic and objective! Thank you for the clear unbiased advice.
I had a heart attack at 40yrs old. A widow maker! No prior BP or cholesterol red flags, but it is common in our family to suffer a cardiac event around this age. An aunt I never got to know passed at 39 of a massive heart attack. I'm still stuck taking 5 prescriptions a day. I've cut my carbs and protein in half, upped my veggie intake and lost 40lbs. It's also important to be cautious of how many calories you drink per day. I would drink 3 coffees a day full of creamer. A lot of creamers contain vegetable oil and it seemed so unnecessary. Our ancestors didn't chug oil all day. Get back to the old, healthy way of putting good calories back into your diet. This made so much sense after recording my diet for 1 month. I dare you to be honest with yourself. God Bless.
My doctor’s practice is on the third floor … I’m terrified of elevators so I take the stairs. This increases my blood pressure. Knowing this my doctor takes two readings…the beginning of the exam and the end of the exam. It’s always back to normal on the second reading👍. Perhaps more doctors should do two readings during a physical exam.🤓👍
If mine seems higher than expected, my doctor will take a second reading before I leave. It’s generally always down to unacceptable range. I show her my twice-a-day readings via my OMRON app so she can see exactly what my BP is daily.
I discovered something recently. if the batteries are getting weak on your blood pressure machine it can make your blood pressure read high. I just put fresh batteries in mine and it's reading 20mm/hg lower. you'll know when the batteries are getting weak when the pump starts sounding labored and the cuff doesn't inflate as fast as it used to.
White coat syndrome is real! You hit that right on the nail. I’ve been telling Doctors for over 25 years and they look at me like I’m nuts. I tell them I can even feel it high just sitting there and sure enough it’s high. Everything you are saying is so true. Thank you so much for going social and sharing so much help. 👊🏼🙏🏻
I have to do 2 or 3 readings at the Dr because it is always high. Sometimes, I get stressed at home when I take it. I need to listen to music or put something on TV to lower it
I can feel my pulse in my ears when i go to the doctor's office, even my chiro, who is so great and non-judgemental. I always feel like I'm about to be judged for every wrong choice I've ever made in my life, and the results are in the numbers. But at my last chiro visit, I'd actually been having headaches, so the symptoms were worrisome, and then I got a reading in both arms. Hence why I'm here...
As I was watching this I took my bp - 153/92 before trying the breathing. 126/75 straight after the breathing! I was amazed. Thank you, Adam. From the bottom of my heart ❤️
@@bethphilip3419 I’m still working that out but I imagine it’s something I would need to do daily to get lasting effects. My understanding is that it increases nitric oxide which increases the flexibility of the blood vessels long term.
So many things I could say about my BP, but one MAIN thing that everyone should be aware of that happened to me at the Dr.'s office, I knew my BP was around 130/85, I take garlic supplements and monitor it twice a day, In June for semi-annual check up nurses assist, first got a reading of my systolic being 164 (don't even remember diastolic), I told her I knew that was wrong, took it again and 155, still told her that wasn't right. When my Dr. came in she took my BP manually, which most Dr.'s are hesitant to do and got my normal reading of 132/84. NOW think of the person who doesn't have a BP machine at home and had normal BP, but got a much higher reading at the Dr. they would've been giving a script for meds they don't need at all !! Just imagine how many people are taking BP meds not needed !!
I am 69 an always had perfect bop readings. However I had pains in my chest with bad headaches and mild nosebleeds. I have a lot of stress at the moment and went to the drs. She took my bp and it was 183/90 very high. I did not receive any medicines and am now concerned, although today it was 137/81. Can you give me some ides what is happening. Thanks mel

i started in the early 80's by cutting all synthetics and processed food. then i cut all added sugar of any kind. then i cut bovine dairy. i eliminated all kinds of serious problems i had. by late 80's i was doing triathlons, marathons, and bicycle racing. for the past 20yrs, i have turned my house to an orchard / garden and produce over 90% of what i eat. i get exercise gardening and still never get sick. as for beets, you are eating the wrong type. i grow a very large variety that is very sweet when steamed and are very tender and tasty all by itself. these are huge, one will fill your hand. spinach also has varieties that are nice. as for garlic, try aged garlic. i grow my own and age my own. aged garlic (7ys) does not smell. i eat it every day, it is almost like candy. as for ginger, i also grow my own in the greenhouse. it is wonderful. i also brew ginger ale. best thing to do for your blood pressure, stress and general well being is go garden and grow great things. save money, clear your mind, improve your health, get physical activity without the cost and boredom, and get closer to nature. it will improve your life in every way 🙂
This is a tremendous comment 👍I hope you have some younger family members that see what you do & you are able to mentor on this way of life as they get older 🙏
@@Cat-hk4de i brought mine in the 70's when we were stationed in persia. it has been bred by me since then. i grow in humus. you need very high quality soil for this. they need pretty constant moisture. depending on your location and weather, you want as much sun as possible unless it goes much above 85F. i usually plant mine to get afternoon shade unless it is a la nina summer. you need to space them a foot apart. don't fertilize too much. i compost arborist wood-chips which takes 3yrs and i grow wildlife food over the mounds so lots of poo enriches the compost. i also use urine and humanure but that will give you different results depending on your diet. i have been synthetic and animal free since early 80's. here in the states, from time to time, the closest thing i can find to my beets is: Persian Star Beet = Purple Star Beet = Burgundy Beet = Star Beet. also shiraz beets should be close too. shiraz is a city in persia. more available varieties like chioggia, detroit dark red, and avalanche may be the quickest rout. tonda di chioggia is also quite good. all these have some persian star in their parentage. starting a garden is a great thing. just remember. you DO NOT fertilize plants. you build soil. never use synthetics. do not kill bugs, no, not even with organic pest control (unless there are no predators for them like spotted lanternfly). pests have predators. if you spray, you will continue to have pest pressure. if you allow your garden to achieve balance, the predators will keep the pests under control for you. never try to do the work nature can do better. be lazy. expect little food for the first 3yrs. after that you should see improvements if you have done it right. these are some of what i have learned after 50yrs of growing my own food 🙂

I was diagnosed with over 200 in blood pressure back in July, after many hours of research and watching youtube, I started intermittent fasting than added keto to it. I started to walk a little every day and have lost 9 kilos since. I hope to get off the medication to a more natural way of controlling my blood pressure this year. You have really helped me and inspire me to do this. Thank you.
Thank you so much Dr Story. I've followed and enjoyed all your recommendations for some weeks now (Dale Carnegie included!) and there's been some improvement but not enough. I have myocarditis which flared up badly when I had the COVID booster. Could that be the reason? I am 87.
The fantastic Article I enjoyed it for 45 minutes. I'm 80 years old. I've had high Blood Pressure for 35 years. My father died on his 49th birthday. 5 in my brothers, I've already died. And one sister, because they wouldn't go to the doctor I've had 5 bypasses put in a 92. And I currently have 19 steps. I've been with the same cardiologist here in Boise Idaho. Since 1990 five, he has not explained. The things to me like you just didn't last 45 minutes. I appreciate your time and I'll be working towards some of these goals. I am across country truck driver. I still try to run a 130 and 40000 miles a year.
I used to have very high blood pressure and went on medication. Back during COVID, since I wasn't going out to lunch, I started going outside for a few minutes a day. That was pretty boring so I'd listen to a TH-cam video and walk around the block. Pretty soon I was going on longer walks and listening to podcasts. Now I'm getting 15k-30k steps a day and listening to audio books. I always hated exercise (except for paintball I'd do with friends on the weekends when I was in my 20s) but walking in nature while lost in the world of a novel is fun and effortless. I also have been doing intermittent fasting (OMAD), no alcohol, and low carb during the week but going out for drinks and a restaurant meal on Fridays and enjoying reasonable carbs on the weekends. I've lost 80+ pounds, dropped one heart prescription and about to drop the other. My waist has gone from 44 to 36 and hopefully will continue to drop another 2-4 inches.
I began a Keto diet when my Dr. said I was pre-diabetic. I did not take any drugs like metformin. I simply change my eating habits . I lost 65 pounds and improved my blood glucose levels well beyond diabetes or pre-diabetes. I have maintained the diet for the last ten years. It works and I never starve myself like low calorie diets forced me to do in the past.
Thank you so much for guiding me in the right direction. My BP was 181/84 when I started watching the video. I chewed a piece of garlic and started the breathing exercise as I listened to you. By the end of the video my pressure dropped to 155/77. I'm still working on it. Thanks and God bless.
Love all your videos, I share them with my family members who need it desperately. I’m 74 years old fairly good health with high blood pressure and normally this is the way I roll. I’m 67 and live in Australia and not even sure how I stumbled on your podcast yesterday but very happy I did! 🤗 I don’t have ‘high’ blood pressure per say but would like it to be a little bit lower and I’m always ‘all in’ when it comes to the natural approach to things. I love your straight forward info without trying to sell your viewers things and without any of the medical jargon that we lay folk don’t even understand most of the time anyway. You have cemented the things I knew about blood pressure and some that I didn’t. For example - I never ever knew that your blood pressure SHOULDN’T be taken on your right arm! Why do doctors always do this? 🤷♀️ And just for the record - I ‘power’ walk every second day for 2-2 1/2 hrs around my area ..,, and I absolutely love and eat regularly 4 of the 5 ‘special’ foods that you mention. Unfortunately - I am unable to come to the party with the green tea! 🤣 Thank ‘you’ for helping ‘us’ to stay healthy. I will be watching a lot more of your videos in the future. Might I just add that you have a great speaking voice and you’re easy on the eye which is a bonus …, at least for us female viewers! Happy & healthy days to everyone! 🤗
@@lizbilson6602 it’s not that it “shouldn’t” but rather you should be consistent and the left arm is closer to the heart and there are less divisions of the artery from the heart. You’ll see in the comments people asking “what if I don’t have a left arm?” Obviously you could use the right arm, but always be consistent for standardizing the exam.
@@AdamJStoryDC Thank you so much for your reply …, I definitely wasn’t expecting that! 😊 Totally get what you’re saying re the right arm but I have never had a reading done on my left arm so will definitely try that and see if it makes a difference. Started the beet juice drink, garlic etc.😊 Thanks again doc for all the helpful information. Bless your heart! 🙏💞
As mentioned beets do have quite a strong flavor and it will overpower most other things. I've found that mixing the beets with garlic, bell peppers, spinach, tomatoes, carrots and onions as a base for my meals (beef, chicken, fish) with a little cooking wine (two tablespoons) makes everything so much better. I don't taste the beets at all. I now have them every day. The beets are about 100gm -150 gms per serving. I put these in a food processor to chop them up. I was doing it by hand at first but now chop two days worth every time. Now I always have them waiting in the wings for my next meal. I also eat them with Oat meal. Yeah, you heard that right! :-)
I’m 69 years old and not a big fan of exercise my doctor suggests 30 minutes a day. Your suggestions sound good to me and will try my best to reach that goal.
Dr Story, thank you so much for a very informative video. I am nearing 80yrs except for the occasional chest infections which has always been my weakness, through having whooping cough as a child but manageable through steaming and hot lemon drinks....I am quite healthy except ...... I am just not motivated now to exercise, I used to walked 3 miles everyday on the beach I also went swimming three times a week I hated being indoors. Five years ago my life changed dramatically my beloved husband died and I moved to be near our son 120 miles away. No beach .....miles to travel to a swimming pool, lovely places to walk but they are very isolated..consequently BP on the 'cuff' weight gone up through lack of exercise..not diet I have always maintained the Mediterranean way of eating. Your video has certainly motivated me from this awful procrastination I have got myself into. Again thank you . 🇬🇧
My blood pressure back on July 6 was 196/104 I started quite a few exercises and cutting out salt even my sugar cause I’m also diabetic after four days it was down to 176 and I managed to get it down to 156 but problems happen again and had me go up to 176. But I’m happy that I came across this video.
I was told that blood pressure medication is for life and that it is very dangerous to stop them. I took the risk after reading about the side effects, stopped gradually though and am still alive. I will certainly try the natural way😊! Thank you!

Thanks doc! My systolic bp is consistently 20 points higher at the dr office than at home. However, even at home it was too high (runs in family). I am on 3 BP meds no matter what diet I eat or exercise. It actually did best on 100% plant based, now back to Mediterranean. My bp is around 120 / 80 on average and I have no side effects from the meds. My weight is normal and so are all blood values. I envy folks who can do this without meds, but I am equally grateful for medical science to get me in a great physical place together with diet, exercise and breathing exercises / working on mental health.

This is one of the best health videos I have watched in a long long time. Thanks Adam for sharing such valuable information with so much of simplicity.
This is the by far, the best simple explanation I have ever heard. Thank you for simplifying everything. I listened to so many TH-cams on breathing that I was sure the next person was going to tell me to blow it out my ears. Lol Chest AND abdomen all at once. Perfect! 68 years old and trying to bring this monster down naturally. Now from listening to your mini lecture, I know how to walk, eat, breathe, what supplements to take (I'm taking them all at the moment) but most of my stress comes from my worrying brain. This will be my biggest challenge. I live in my 'survival' brain, always waiting and on guard for the tiger behind me to attack. I wish so much (from the bottom of my heart) that I could believe in god because it helps so many people...but I don't... so I have to find a way to feel 'safe'. I never feel safe. I'm always waiting for the other ''shoe to drop''. I live in the primitive brain. I need to find that better version of myself that does not worry. Thank you again so much for this wonderful, simple to understand mini lecture. ((hugs)) to you and everyone....
Ms. Karen, I am a year older than you and live alone with no family around and since covid event avoided everybody (not that I had any close friends...) I understand you completeky because I've been there. I resolved this issue by deciding that I would do whatever I can think of to ANTICIPATE bad outcomes such as tripping, slipping/falling in bath/shower, forgetting to close/secure doors, windows, timers for everything, never out after sunset, I am learning to shoot a gun at the shooting range now, etc... basically do whatever I can think of. After that, I decided that if a " shoe drops", I would have done my best and leave it to my reflexes, fast thinking and basically cross that bridge when/if I get there. That is the way I found peace. I am alone but never feel lonely and enjoy life daily: I work on line, enjoy several hobbies, reading, movies, home cooked dishes from all over the world, shopping on line, crosswords, gardening, limit time on phone and social media, I am learning my seventh language, and first and foremost take care of myself from head to toe. Tai chi, yoga, meditation, music... Life is so short: fill it with joy and pleasure not worries and apprehension. I used to love volunteering but stopped since confinement days, I hope this will inspire you. Wishing you inner peace; sincerely. :)
Karen, your reply about "Not believing in God" breaks my heart! He is your Father, He created you, he created us all! God brings Peace. The Devil brings Fear!! I pray that God will reveal himself to you. And bring you the Peace that only he can give. Casting all our cares/worries on him, because he loves us.🙌🙌

Thank you!! I made notes, now to do the home work. I expect great benefits and will work really hard toward that goal. At 95, I don't have 30 more years so what I do have will be the best I can make.
I love, love, love beets. If you get them, scrub them, wrap in foil and bake them in the oven. When soft, let them cool, peel them a little and slice them up - they are sweet as candy. If I don't have time to fuss around, I always keep a glass jar of sliced pickled beets in the refrigerator.
I checked my BP at Walmart and it was 188/89! That is panic numbers and dangerous. I bent over the other day and almost passed out. I could not get a Dr appt for a week! I started watching vids and followed advice and its down to 145. I looked and 4 years ago it was 139. I will continue to lower it without medicine if I can. I am not fat nor drink or smoke and walk daily
What I like about this presentation - it doesn’t start with “what’s up guys” - not a looong time talking about how great he is - thirdly, no heavy sell about a wonder product solution which you can buy for $19.99 a month - finally, and most importantly, good advice which should not be hard to put into practice. Thanks Doc.
Just on #2 but I just want to say that I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and CHF (no symptoms) but low ejection fraction one year ago. I walk one mile briskly with the dog or 30 minutes on the treadmill every other day. I used to do 5 days a week but I have bad knees (got gel injection) and the ortho dr said only every other day. I’m on medication for BP and ejection fraction. Both have improved a lot. I also changed my diet. I have a healthy cereal (bran flakes with fruit) for breakfast. Tuna usually for lunch with veggies and fruit, and I cook Mediterranean recipes for dinner. I immediately threw out salt and butter. I use olive oil and salt free seasonings. I can eat out or at someone’s house and still be good. I feel great and, even though I didn’t need to, I lost a few pounds. I check my BP in the morning and evening everyday 1-2 hrs after taking the pill. I feel great and I had my second echo in November and the ejection fraction went from 30-35% to 50-55%! I’m having another echo done in one month. I’m hoping to get some more good ideas from you. So far I’m enjoying your videos and I have subscribed. Thank you so much. My big problem more is I love to have a small dessert after dinner so I’m probably eating too much sugar so I have to work on that. Thank you! I look forward to more videos from you.
Excellent overview of many powerful non-medication ways to lower high blood pressure that work for most people. I am an integrative nutrition coach and I just love the way you take a well-rounded approach to various aspects of lifestyle, with practices that are accessible and feasible, without being extreme about diets. Thank you for getting the good news out there!
You have helped me a lot. I will share this with my family and friends. You may not know, but you have helped a lot of people that you will never encounter in your life and I am one of them. Thank you, Doctor.

You answered my question! I started taking magnesium regularly and my bp lowered significantly. I was taking it to help me with sleep and leg cramping. Suddenly I had a super low bp episode. My Dr couldn't explain it. I asked both him and pharmacist if magnesium could have lowered it. They both said no. But it is the only change I have made. As a result I have stopped water pills and believe I may need to reduce the other meds as well. Thank you for confirming what I believed.
Thank you for such a comprehensive guide for not only managing blood pressure but to maintain a healthy lifestyle. And presented in such a lucid manner.
As a 71 year old woman starting to have blood pressure issues, I am constantly on the lookout for ideas and tips on how to lower the blood pressure. I found this video extremely useful and informative. The only thing that I don't like is green tea. To me it tastes like old socks. But I do like the idea of the ginger and so I'm going to start making my own ginger tea. Thank you for the video
Excellent advice Doc, I’ve been on medication for over 20 years, retired 5 months ago & started regular exercise & eat properly, reduced stress level too since I’m not working. Yes already see results & BP has dropped.. now I’ll follow your others advices, maybe one day I can stop taking those medications..
You missed out one big one the power of getting a pet - a dog for routine daily walks, a cat for chilling, touch, unconditional love, de-stressing. They probably saved my life
It's not to apply to everyone. I had dogs, parrot , cockatiels in my life. They are wonderful creatures on earth but when I get older I cannot stand to see them sick, suffer, crying in pain before they die at the vet emergency hospital. Very painful experience that I no longer can handle. Plus nowadays and with the restricted retirement income it's not easy to self take care and the pet. Totally impossible if you want a good healthy happy life and your family (pets).
Walking is my main exercise. I walk six days a week for 30-60 minutes. It's so good for me. I can't explain it but my instinct in my brain has always been towards walking. As if I'm wired to do it.
I have severe Agoraphobia so when I have to leave my home to go to my Doc Appointment’s ( every 3 month’s for pain med checkup’s), my BP is always high. My Doc is a sweetheart and understand’s my situation. It’s taken again before I leave and it’s gone down a bit. Not a lot but enough for me to leave.
Dr Story, thank you so much. I had been doing my best to seek natural help for my high blood pressure and started took some supplements but since April..it was not going down consistently. Today this morning and afternoon...I seriously went thru and took notes. This morning when I was saw your you tube ..my pressure were consistently like 157 to 160 over 100 to 90. I realized I had been trying to hard to do box breathing and it wasn't working for me. Today I used your breathing method and Boi! My active pressure were like 127 to 130 over 85 to 80 but I gotta try most of your methods and let you know in 8 to 12 weeks times! Thank you
Dr. Adam Story. Thanks for your videos. It's a real treasure and really something for our next generation to pass on. You reall nailed it and root caused the problem. I hope all doctors understand this and do real diagnosis rather than fixing the symptoms.
Really great vid! I have hypertension (145/90) and don't like taking any meds, so eating lots of fruits, vegetables and lean meats like chicken. I think I don't drink enough water plus don't exercise enough...I just walk a bit. I want to improve my health so this vid def helps!

Great video I'm in UK and Dr I was seeing just kept trying me on different medication the side effects from them were terrible and Amlodipine were horrendous (medication does help and is needed in some people) thanks to watching you I have managed to change everything I'm not vegetarian but have cut out red meat take garlic capsules and vitamin D with a glass of beet juice every morning garlic and magnesium every night completely changed my diet progressed from walking to riding a bike every day for about 40mins my average BP works out at 123/76 a big change from the high figures I was getting just don't give up it can be done naturally but does take time thanks for all the guidance.
I've changed my pressure as well. I take magnesium, drink a glass of beet juice almost daily. Walk and do spinning and aerobic classes. It has helped me greatly. Amlodipine didn't do much for me. I had better success this way. I used to have dangerously high blood pressure. My last reading to today was 126/78 and that's been the average over the past 2 months. I do the breathing exercises as well. It truly works!!

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. My bp was significantly high three days ago. So i will go back to walking which I've stopped for some months now. You've inspired me to take care of my health again. Thanks again.
Thank you. You are not only a great doctor but also a great human being. With this video, you have already helped and given hope to millions of people in the world. Thank you again.
Thank you for the info. I have lost a bunch of weight exercising and diet changes (26 kg). Have been on BP medicine for 20 years. I cycle and do almost everything you have in your video, one thing that hit me is the test time and procedure !!!! I go to a doctor close to work, so after commuting in traffic for an hour I get to work, have a coffee or 3 while getting things sorted at work. Then I dash to the doctor for a checkup, sitting there while working from my phone , taking calls, explaining to my boss where i am and why its taking too long according to him etc. I might not have a problem and that is why i always feel crap due to medication !!! Will seriously have to look at these issues.
I am behind 100% of what you have mentioned about blood pressure changes. I have strated walking 1 mile a day, stayed away from fried/processed foods. Noticeable positive change in my blood pressure.
Thank you so much Dr. Story for taking the time to make this very informative video on lowering your blood pressure. Blessed to have people like you out there. Very well done! Will pass on to my friends and family.
This was awesome. I don’t often respond to videos but felt the need to for this one. Yesterday we got word that my husband’s childhood friend was rushed to the hospital for a stroke or heart attack I’m not quite sure which one. Whichever one he ended up needing emergency heart surgery. This was a reality check for me. We’re all the same age. His family reported that he lived a high pork, fried food lifestyle and rarely took his bp meds. My husband and I are both on bp meds, I take mines on and off. And walk on and off. More when it’s warm than when it’s cold. Fast forward to this morning. I’ve watched a lot of videos on how to’s about bp, but your video actually 1. Makes sense and 2. Seems liveable. And 3. Said nothing about wine 🍷 😅. I’m starting today. I pray not to start and stop but to continue until the Lord calls me home. Which I pray won’t have to do with my refusal to begin to start to change something today and I stopped but that I will continue on. Thanks again this was great. And yes I took plenty of notes.
Hibiscus flower infusion is acidic...but I'm using it. Also, I'm adding the remaining petals to the salad. They are fleshy and with lemon juice plus green leaves, radishes and other things it's great! Beautiful salads and infusions.
It was informative! My grandma Rachel would boil the beets and make a salad adding cucumber, 🍅, red onions, and balsamic vinegar with salt and pepper. Try it! Spinach is high in oxalate.
You are spot on. Thank you for sharing. Reducing stress helped me. I used journaling and making pictures of the life I wanted. I also combined ginger, garlic, and other roots to make a all-day drink by boiling and reheating added water as I consumed it all day. It lowered my blood pressure. I adapted life to cardio 3-5 days at least 30 mins. on rowing machine, bike, treadmill, or swimming. Finally, moved to one meal, eat anything, food consumption, including soda on some days. Justified exercise by the steam sauna afterwards. Lost 10 pounds in 2 months and have kept it off for 4 months. Workouts have weight training too, to keep muscle mass. Now moving to the next tier to improve agility and endurance more to restart the next phase of lowering weight and blood pressure. Once again, thank you for sharing your insights. Very inspiring indeed!
Thanks for the tips in this video. I’m a 61 year old male Trying to always stay in shape. For 10 years trying to keep my blood pressure to normal. It’s in normal range at home but when I go get my checkups at the Dr it always goes higher. I try to do all those things you mentioned in video. But when I go for my checkups the Dr always thinks I have high blood pressure ever time he thinks I’m lying about staying in shape .
This was an amazing video - thank you so much - you covered so many of the issues that I am sure really make a difference. I had already started the walking and the diet to some extent but the mental issues as you say is "the biggy". You have really inspired me - so thank you a thousand times.

Hi, I really appreciate your advice, thank you so much. I was diagnosed with hypertension nearly 12 years ago, I've been taking Micardis for about 5 years now, but the side effects were horrible: e.g. dry mouth, especially at night (thick saliva) cramps, chest pain, to name a few. I've decided to stop taking the tablets this week, and I have had bad symptoms because of stopping taking Micardis (e.g. headaches and stomach ache) after 7 days without the tablet my blood pressure is quite high today 161/100 but I am determined to change habits (especially diet and attitude) as I am already going to the gym at least twice a week to do cardio and I walk every day (around 8.000 steps), still, I feel a bit stressed not taking the bloody Micardis but the side effects were unbearable. I hope doing the right exercises, changing my attitude (stress) , taking the supplements, and having the right diet will help.
It could just be that I may be able to escape the pills for now……
That's amazing great job
Thanks for sharing this information Dock. Am going try it.
Thanks for sharing so be ready to go for 90 day's to see a change. Got it thanks again for sharing.
Your blood pressure numbers have never been alarmingly high. Now that you are into healthy living, there are no circumstances under which you should allow yourself to take any blood pressure meds with their many side effects. You got this!
Such great news 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Here’s my experience:
Been on blood pressure medication for decades (GP and cardiologists on autopilot & I was ignorant).
Great story! Congratulations!

Thanks for sharing this! I need to get new batteries.

Just imagine how many people are taking BP meds not needed !!

i started in the early 80's by cutting all synthetics and processed food. then i cut all added sugar of any kind. then i cut bovine dairy. i eliminated all kinds of serious problems i had. by late 80's i was doing triathlons, marathons, and bicycle racing. for the past 20yrs, i have turned my house to an orchard / garden and produce over 90% of what i eat. i get exercise gardening and still never get sick. as for beets, you are eating the wrong type. i grow a very large variety that is very sweet when steamed and are very tender and tasty all by itself. these are huge, one will fill your hand. spinach also has varieties that are nice. as for garlic, try aged garlic. i grow my own and age my own. aged garlic (7ys) does not smell. i eat it every day, it is almost like candy. as for ginger, i also grow my own in the greenhouse. it is wonderful. i also brew ginger ale. best thing to do for your blood pressure, stress and general well being is go garden and grow great things. save money, clear your mind, improve your health, get physical activity without the cost and boredom, and get closer to nature. it will improve your life in every way 🙂
This is a tremendous comment 👍I hope you have some younger family members that see what you do & you are able to mentor on this way of life as they get older 🙏
@@AlsanPine what variety of beets please? I'm starting to garden and would appreciate the information about varieties.
@@AlsanPine All I can say is ‘Wow!’ 😲 Very impressive indeed …, and good on you!
@@lizbilson6602 thank you, but i was motivated since i was not supposed to live to see the 90's. it would have been impressive if i had done this before i had to 🙂
Im also hypertensive, I’m from the philippines btw. We have history in the family. My bp is in the hypertensive side like 140/90 up- highest is 170/100 To reverse the pressure to normal i do the following.

4. Decreased fatty foods
5. Increasing green foods, avoiding sugar
6. Some exercise TM, walking, biking no heavy liftings for me. House chores is good also
7. Stress free life style

Thank you.

Good job. You can do it !
Thank you so much Dr Story. I've followed and enjoyed all your recommendations for some weeks now (Dale Carnegie included!) and there's been some improvement but not enough. I have myocarditis which flared up badly when I had the COVID booster. Could that be the reason? I am 87.
@@mitziandersen1702 hi I ben watching your video I was 250 4 lb now I am to 240 n I ben doing a lot of waking n my blood pressure Ben 130 73
Wonderful!
Wonder about peopleunder financial stress? Difficult to change this. Some people practice stoicism to deal with stress.
@AdamJStoryDC good night doc my pressure is at 125/84 is that worrying
You are very kind, non-judgmental, and encouraging!
Love all your videos, I share them with my family members who need it desperately. I’m 74 years old fairly good health with high blood pressure and normally this is the way I roll. I did have to move away from a lot of stress and drama retire from a stressful job, have relocated to a very peaceful, solitary, Place of my roots and I love it. I have a wonderful job that’s easy Peezy, and no drama that is comparable to what I left. I’ve watched you for several years, but never commented, but I just want to say hats off for making it interesting, entertaining, more knowledgeable about my diet and my lifestyleand keep on keeping on please. Thank you so much.❤
I can honestly say the walking 20 minutes minimum a day worked for me and lower my blood pressure
Wow just from walking 😮😊???

Have a great day! Now let’s see what else I can learn from you! 👍
Thank you for a very encouraging guide on lowering blood pressure. One important lesson I have derived from this is, TO KEEP DOING THE SIX THINGS WITHOUT STOPPING. MAKE IT PART OF MY LIFE.

After: 107/65

Your video has certainly motivated me from this awful procrastination I have got myself

I was a runner for 30 years. At age 68 my diastolic blood pressure began to spike up, no more running. Breathing exercises brought mine back down immediately. Now I do them every morning and have no more blood pressure problems. My husband, never a runner, improvement took a few weeks for him, but he steadily improves. His BP is close to my 110/65, or better.
two years ago i drank green tea, with raw unfiltered honey[hard to find now a days], and ginerroot whole time I did this every morning I never had high blood pressure, about two years ago when I stopped drinking everyday in morning, blood pressure numbers both gone up 20 plus numbers, will start drinking and walking again and anticipate better blood pressure numbers in near future, thanks for pointing these things out, didn't realize how vital they are to healthy blood pressure, it was not blood pressure I started using them for, blood sugar and high cholesterol, which numbers were also better while drinking my green tea combo.... Thank you Dr. Story for taking time doing your videos with interest of improving health of all those that needed a word of encouragement and direction to get started, or in my case get started again.......................

I can't agree more 🙏🏼
I have goats and chickens! So wonderful!!!
I have two parrots, one calls me ar###le and the other much worse, really calmes and makes you feel better 😅
For me, that depends on the dog 😂 I simply couldn’t keep up with him 🙈 But resting with him in my arms? Best sleep ever ❤
Can i just eat canned beets and drink the juice? i ask because they're dirt cheap.
Justin you shouldn't take vitamin D without a K2 vitamin you will build up too much calcium in your bloodstream look at dr. Berg's on TH-cam I take 10000 D3 and 50 mg of K2 and I drink them down with organic olive oil olive oil helps to help them Digest I hope this helps
@@damselinadress2069 Me higher number is keep going up I'm taking medicine for so many years now he wants increase my medicine. I was watching you're video i been taking all the vitamin already. I know i cant relax is anything else i can do it was nice to watch you're video. Thank you you are very good.
Can somebody tell me what kind of magnesium to take... thank you very much
Best blood pressure video EVER! Thanks Dr Story! I took copious notes and I am starting TODAY!!! I have a big shopping list of healthy stuff and I am going to walk there and back. Walking every day is my new good habit! Your channel is GOLD DUST, Doctor. Thanks so much. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Very encouraging. I'm an introspective person, so working on the psychological / mental health side comes naturally. But I don't manage stress well, work an office job with too much sitting, and stay up too late at night. Will listen to this again and make some changes.
Thank you!
WOW‼️Best video from a chiropractor I’ve ever had the privilege to view. I’m on the road to better health because of YOU. God put you in my path in His timing, a wake up call for me. God bless you. 😊
Wow, thank you!
The advice in this video is better than any Doctors visit! Thank U.
Glad it was helpful!
I love his optimism and variety of options. Thanks for this wealth of information Dr.
So nice of you
This was awesome.
Thanks for the tips!
Excellent advocate! Perfect speed, clear logic. Thank you doctor!
It was informative! My grandma Rachel would boil the beets and make a salad adding cucumber, 🍅, red onions, and balsamic vinegar with salt and pepper. Try it!
Spinach is high in oxalate.
Thanks so much for making such a great and informative video! We appreciate all that you do to educate us!❤️
You are so welcome!
You are a very caring doctor. Thanks for very good info in teaching people how to live better and not quick to talk about drugs
A great video. And I did take notes. I will do what you said. Stress is my biggest weakness and I think I bring it on myself. Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing!!
Breathing ….thank you I have been stressing about the nostril, which nostril and I doing it correctly, finally I found someone who took time to explain 😊
You're so welcome!
Thank you very much and that's all I can say
