How Jab Resets Work, and How to Smash DI Them

  • Double jab resets function exactly the same as single jab resets, it's just a bit easier to defend against them and some character's second jabs have worse properties than the first.
    SDI'ing a jab reset does not guarantee that you are safe. There are still options for the opponent, such as a second jab, a read, etc.
    Hopefully with this video you'll understand how to defend against jab resets much better than you did before.
    Let me know if you have any questions.

    More details on how option/optionless resets work: When you end up on ground when DownDamage ends, you're forced to do get up stand after hitstun ends. However hitstun doesn't prevent you from doing any get up action, so the input window for doing any get up action is from the first frame after DownDamage until the last frame of hitstun. If you don't choose get up action in the window, get up stand happens after the window.
    One practical effect of this is that if you get reset with a move that has high hitstun, such as fox shine for example, you can alter the timing of your get up action which makes the action harder to cover. If the hitstun isn't longer than the DownDamage, the window is of course 0 and the result is the optionless reset.

      @RemixSSBM  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow, wish I knew that before I made this video.
      That means that getup attacks are not always a frame perfect input, which I didn't mention in my video, and being able to delay your option is pretty cool too.
      I hope people read your comment

    Dude you have been consistently putting out great, easy to understand videos, thanks so much. I think that people would prefer a wall tech video because it applies to any character rather than just fox

    TBH, I want more on wall teching for the sake of the universal applications across all characters including my own, but if the wall infinite video comes first then I won't complain. I just want to see a video on the wall teching at some point.

    Your videos are all gold. You do a great job covering stuff that nobody has really covered very well before. As for your question, I'd prefer to see ledge techs, especially if you have some new take on it.

    Firstly, I would want more on ledge teching than wall shine infinites due to one of them pretty much only being applicable to one stage, and secondly, thank you for your informative videos, they are incredibly useful and once applied helped me alot in my play, Keep up the great work!

    It's really important to point put that while you can't sdi up to escape drill reset, it is incredibly easy to escape it by just asding off the platform. This is why drill resets aren't common because they are so susceptible to even just asdi.

    When is an option tap reset possible? Sorry, I didn't completely understand.

    • @lifeguylifeworld
      @lifeguylifeworld 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it when the opponent is hit with a move that causes more than 13 frames of hitstun and then is in a techable situation, but misses the tech and is jab resetted?

    • @RemixSSBM
      @RemixSSBM  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tap reset is the same as jab reset, it's just a better name since you don't have to use jab to reset. There are 2 types of tap resets: optionless tap reset, and option tap reset. When the move that is used to tap reset deals less than 13 frames of hitstun an optionless tap reset occurs and they are forced to stand up. If it deals more than 13 frames of hitstun, an option tap reset occurs where they can roll or getup attack (or just stand up in place like normal).

    So when hitting them multiple times while they are on the ground do the hitstun frames add up or is it just for the last hit that is has to be less than 13 for it to be optionless?

    • @RemixSSBM

    I recall Armada got out of a drill reset against Mango in a GF but I dont remember which tournament, I still don't know how he did it

    • @RemixSSBM
      @RemixSSBM  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually found out recently. Apparently every other hit acts differently, so depending on how many hits you get hit by, there's a 50% chance it's possible to get out of. I think i mentioned in my Genesis 4 Top 8 Analysis video that I had no idea how Armada got out, and nobody commented anything saying why, but someone recently told me that was why it happened. I still haven't tested it myself to know the details, but you're right, it is possible to get out of a drill reset.

    not so much wallshine infinite like what i think you'd be doing where you're just shine wd down but maybe showing the ways to do the most efficient infinites like short hop laser > shine etc

    • @RemixSSBM
      @RemixSSBM  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. Shine > wavedash down doesn't actually work, because you get pushed back after the 6th shine or something, but I'll talk about a few of the methods that are most effective in terms of difficulty, time, consistency, etc.

    • @RemixSSBM

      Yep, here's a quick video showing what that looks like. Also, there's A LOT more hitlag on shine than a jab, so getting 2.5 SDI is pretty easy

    Just call it jab resetting, don't come up with your own name for it lol

    • @RemixSSBM
      @RemixSSBM  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These aren't my own names, they're names created by Magus to avoid confusion. Jab reset is the street name while the "official" terms coined by Magus are option tap reset and optionless tap reset. Check here for more info: smashboards.com/threads/we-should-update-the-compendium-of-knowledge-thread.268908/#post-9872129

    • @ratsinpublic
      @ratsinpublic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remix i guess that's a little less pretentious, but still I'm sure only .5% of players call it a tap reset. There is no "official" name for the tech so might as well use the colloquial term

    • @RemixSSBM
      @RemixSSBM  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Right, but when I'm explaining the mechanics of reset, I don't want to call it a jab reset as that could imply that it can only be done via jabs, when it can in fact be done with a variety of moves. In everyday talk of course I call it a jab reset or just a reset.

    • @ratsinpublic
      @ratsinpublic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol yeah ur right, I took out the wrong way. Imo i think it's arrogant when any one person tries to re-name or fix a term for the larger community. But what you said makes sense to clarify for new players, since it is a tutorial lmao
