    Huh why does my feet not get warm under a blanket

    • @Angiologist
      @Angiologist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Thank you for your question. For many people cold feet are a result of the small arteries at the tips of the toes and feet to constrict. When the feet are warmed under the blanket (or socks etc.) the arteries dilate and there is more blood in the feet making them warmer.

    Superb video, no-nonsense, no fluff approach is highly appreciated. No one mentions, mammals' feet get cold to reduce heat loss. Cats, dogs, horses. It's natural. We all wear shoes, but thousands of years ago, we may not have worn them. A healthy human can walk barefoot in the cold, no lasting harm is done. Rising metabolism warms the body, one can go out in the cold and feel no discomfort. Sedentary lifestyle, low metabolism indoors in artificially heated environment, watch out, it's unnatural.

    Wow! Short and sweet! Thank you, Dr. Weinberg. It takes a lot of effort, but I can keep my feet warm at night. Pads with plastic lining wrapped around my feet keep my own (weak) heat confined, and eventually my feet get warm. Of course, I also use an electric blanket (which are all made in China and usually last less than two years). I've also tried bread wrappers under wool socks for walking around, but this makes weird grooves in my skin. Wool is reliable, even when wet it provides some warmth. I've been to many doctors, and 90% of the time they tell me nothing about my condition except come back in six months. I really appreciate your succinct words in defining the causes of cold feet!

    OMG... thank you very much,,, what a concise explanation with a test to determine if the condition is vascular or not. I have an appointment with my physician Wednesday to discuss my cold feet that occasionally have burning pain as well. I also have night time leg cramps but I ASSUME that is a completely different issue. Again thank you!

    so if it's not vascular. What is causing it?

    • @Angiologist
      @Angiologist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for your question. In most cases cold feet are a result of nerves "sensing" that the feet are cold when they are not really cold. Also, there are many condition where the arteries in the feet constrict making the feet temporarily cold, but there is no large artery blockage. In any case, if your feet are cold, it may be beneficial for you to consult your physician.

    • @Angiologist
      @Angiologist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the question. Some people will have a cold sensation, others will have truly cold feet and some people will have both. The best way to check this is to have a medical provider examine your feet. If they suspect a problem with the blood flow, they can test for that. Also, they can test for the function of the small nerves that sense the cold temperature. All the best!
