Great choice… I have just done the same and traded my GS in against a 2021 RT. Absolutely loving it and definitely no regrets after the first 1000+ miles… Enjoy the new bike. 👍
@@jbin2756 The RT is ever so slightly more “sporty” than the GS. I had to fit bar risers to the RT to alleviate a little strain between my shoulders that became apparent on full day rides. I still ride my 1986 BMW R80RT (800cc), the much older brother of your new RT, which also came with BMW hard luggage, and I love my bike! You forgot to mention one thing. Properly cared for, RTs last forever! Great review and love the blue color.😎👍
Hey Scott, welcome back! It's been a while. Loving the RT. I still have unfinished business with my 1250RS, which I love. The slightly canted forward riding position still suits me and I find the saddle all-day comfortable - have never experienced such a good standard seat on a motorcycle. My friend has a 2021 RT in the same blue - by far the best colour on offer from a typically poor selection from BMW IMO. Two things surprised me when riding with him: how good the bike looks without the boxes on, and how that thing can hustle in the twisties when called upon. I already know how good the 1250 motor is. I owned my last IL4 bike in 2010 - can't see me going back. Low down and mid-range shove is where it's at for me. I have short legs and a normal length back (yup, the build of a weasel 😂) so, when the time comes, an RT would be the way to go for me. My wife will appreciate the extra pillion comfort, no doubt, though she finds the RS good already. Looking forward to your ownership feedback on the RT once you've covered some miles. Oh, as mentioned by others: back-lit switchgear BMW - come on guys, no excuse for it from a premium brand with premium prices.
Congratulations on the new ride! I deliberated a lot over the RT vs. GSA question. In the end I got a GSA but it was a tough choice. I do love the RT, just love the GSA a bit more!
Great video as always! I currently (starting from this season) have both the RT 1250 and the GS 1250 (non-adventure). My wife just started riding with me (as I spend more and more days on the road every year) and I find RT to be much better suited for the 2-UP riding. On the GS I always feel the passenger (more suspension dive, braking is different) whilst on the RT I have to check from time to time if my wife is still on the bike (not kidding). Also, a big point for me when comparing the two bikes is that RT has a smaller diameter front wheel which makes the counter-steering easier, it feels more sporty.
Not into highway bikes but understand why you bought it. If you have to commute or travel long distances on a highway and you prefer to do it on a bike it make total sense. Congratulations.
Great comparison 👍 I rode a GS in 2020 and switched to the blue sports RT Last year. I love it. A few weeks ago I received my Corbin saddle ! What a great upgrade. It feels so much better than the stock seat.
Haha. Now the Boxer fever got you. Congrats for this purchase. I like your videos and missed them for some months. Enjoy your ride and greetings from Münsterland

I think this bike would suit about 90% of GS riders better than the GS! But I think the lifestyle and "street cred" of the GS is what draws them towards it. I can't pretend not to be affected too!
To be honest, why I chose the RT over the GS or GSA is because I looked at what I have done off-road for my whole life and the answer was 0% with my bikes. That's why I chose the RT, along with 10.25" TFT, more wind protection and comes with hard cases. I have been to two off-road parks in the last 3 years but then I just rent their bikes, then I'm not worried about crashing, when I go down I don't have to pay to fix my own bike and therefore I'm more relaxed and can actually learn how to ride off-road without any inhibition's. AND yes both times I went to the off-road parks, I went down more than once, well, the second time I went down once. take care, Scott
I know several long in the tooth riders who own and love their GSs. They don’t take them off road, never intended too and not why they bought them. The basic GS (not GSA) is a just a bike with a confident everyday, all day, cruise or carve riding position. I think it has a lot to do with the rider’s leg length too.
Good luck with the new bike! Find some more dealers to loan you machines. I'm having a credibility moment with vloggers in the UK: it's a trust and impartiality thing. They seem to be too close to the companys they rely on and I smell the rat of self-interest in their content. I've always appreciated and trusted your vids and opinions, especially the comparisons. Welcome back.
Great bike. I had a 2015 RT 1200. just bought a 2021 GSA rallye with luggage, fully loaded for £17,400 2nd hand saving £3000.. oh by the way the bike had 1,219 miles on the clock.. why buy new! I prefer the GSA cos it doesn’t look like an old mans bike! 🥴. Jokes aside they are both great bikes.. as usual it comes down to personal choice. Now you only need a pipe and slippers. Good to see you back.
Absolutely beautiful! The RT is a special bike indeed. This model received an upgrade to the horn. Now it’s a horn! I really wish the Smart Phone Charging port would accept a commonly used Ultra size, and backlit handlebar switches for night riding. It is a premium brand. I guess BMW just doesn’t find these elements necessary. Now might consider engine case protection and set of high lumen Denali D4’s or D7’s. Awesome machine. Ride safe and ride often.
Hey Scott! Great to see you moving on the RT. I am for now on a R1200R and loving it! It won hands down vs/ XR900 after a back to back test ride. I have always been in love with the RT but I am somewhat scared when I see it in the flesh 😀
G'day Scotty, great to have you back mate. Great bike that's for sure. Very similiar to my fjr1300. perfect bike for your road's/autobahn's. Congrat's and really looking forward to your upcoming videos. Stay safe brother.
I was amazed at how good my 1150rt is off road. I accidentally found myself going up a steep little stoney dirt track and it got up there no problem. That’s with almost no off-road experience. On gravel it’s a breeze. Great suspension.
Great to see you again Scott and thank you for the update! You absolutely made the right choice in the R1250RT it is a beautiful bike and a real mile eater in comfort. I think GT style bikes are going to make a comeback as people consolidate their needs and get a bike that is powerful, practical and able to take you in car-like comfort. Looking forward to your ride review!
Excellent choice! I went from a 2014 GSA that I always felt was a little breezy and short geared to a K 1600 B that felt a little too top heavy. Now I have the 2021 RT and I think it’s the best choice for the type of riding that I have been doing. So far, I have been on two 5000 mile trips in the South West U.S. and it’s preformed great. In my opinion, it has the best wind protection of any bike that I have ridden. The gearing is taller than the GSA and makes for a much more relaxed ride. P.S. make sure the Active Cruise sensor is always clean or it will go into a fault code.
Hi Scott… well, you were instrumental in my buying an R 1250 R last year; that engine is an absolute beast of a torque monster - it does put a smile on your face, as you said in your R 1250 R video. I have not regretted that purchase! Congratulations on your upgrade to the classic BMW motorcycle with that fantastic, horisontally opposed boxer engine… I doubt you will regret it!! 😎
I thought the central locking was a bit of a gimmick, until I had one on demo for the days, run round doing a bit of shopping and other errands, it was far more useful then I imagined. Haven't stretched to a new one yet though, still have the 2013 one. Unless there is the chance of ice or snow, often use it instead of the car. Use it for shopping and general running around, being able to leave crash helmet and gloves, even jacket in the panniers and top box give the freedom to wander round like I would if I'd taken a car.
Very impressive, great looking bike. Many good rides with it. I did buy a new GS last year, finally departing from my beloved Roadster series( r850r. R1200R, R1250R). I do agree with you that the off-road aspect of owning a GS ( here in Berlin) is more illusion than reality. I only road off-road by an Enduro Training course. What did impress me was , how nimble the gs is to ride, actually more fun than my smaller roadster. Perhaps, i should have considered the RT, that being said, i wonder how many of us choose a bike because of weight or a somewhat cheaper price , after all, these are top of the line bikes and the people who buy them do so with all the extras. Good to see you back in the saddle. Greetings from Berlin,Jim
Congratulations on your new machine! Great bike and also great for the channel because there are not many people reviewing this bike. Curious for more videos with the RT! Cheers
Well well well Sir, you are the proud owner of an RT! When I watched your vids on GPS functionality I swear I thought to myself - "he´s in love with the bike". Congrats! What a great bike (imho). I just got delivery of one, same colour. One test ride and I was smitten - having previously owned 3 GS (never used off-road) and an RS. Mine came with Brembo front brakes, which was a (good) surprise. Since you seem well connected with BMW, how about trying to replace the foot fairings with frame triangle covers from a GS/GSA and exposing those big jugs - I think it would improve the look of the bike significantly. Please keep the vids coming, especially if you do anything cool to the "Mother Ship".
LOL! And thank you! Yea, my wife said the same thing to after riding it, the dealer let me take it home for till I was ready to give it back while I was shooting the 2 videos of it last year, I guess he knew I'd end up with sooner or later :) Brembo or Hayes, it seems that BMW is having supply chain issues, like ever other OEM right now and they will put whatever part is there to keep the assembly line going. Both have been proven to be good calipers, so no worries there. BTW, one of my other subscribers called his RT an "Intergalactic Battle Cruiser". LOL! Maybe I'll rename my RT "IBC" LOL! take care, Scott
Oh man. So good to see you post again! Look forward to seeing your exploits on the mighty RT. I’ve lusted after that bike since I was a little kid. I’ve always gone a different direction, but some day, just maybe. You are so going to enjoy that bike. Lastly, I often repeat the line, nothing to prove, when I head out to ride. So, thank you for that, and all your fine TH-cam work.
Great to see a new video from you Scott, love your new purchase. The RT is a beautiful bike and lets face it as we get a little more grey we want a little more comfort (I own a 2021 Yamaha FJR).
If I wasn’t so tall at 6’3, I’d seriously consider an RT. I love old school sport tourers like the RT. I do a decent amount of dirt and gravel on my CRF300 Rally, and have a V4S Multi for touring, but am trading it for the 2022 Africa Twin. Love that Honda engine and it’s so capable on and off road, for a tall guy
Beautiful colour, great choice of bike. Would like to see another road trip with this bike just as you did with the old bike. Great video Scott as as always. Two thumbs up way up high.
We, Uli the GS guy and Karl the SAS guy, are planning a trip down to the French/Spanish Pyrenees Mountains for this June. Let's see what happens 😁👍 We are just talking now, no plans as of yet. take care, Scott
He lives! Good to see you are well. Congrats on the new ride. I'dve gone for the RS myself. Prolly will once I have room for it in the garage. For now I'll use my Katana as my bargain RS. Looking forward to your next video. Maybe that new Moto Guzzi sport tourer.
Thank you! Yea, the Mandello V100 Guzzi looks really good, can't wait to do a review of it but it won't get here till later this year, if it gets here this year at all 😢 take care, Scott
Great choice. I have the exact same bike… best bike I have ever owned after over 30 years riding. The other big pluses for me compared to the GSA are comfort and handling. Although a “tourer” the bike can also be very sporty if you put the screen down (I have the sports screen) and remove the panniers. Put it in dynamic mode and away you go! ECO mode seemed pointless initially but it is actually great for riding around a city centre in stop and start traffic, makes the bike much smoother and easier to handle. p.s. after a few initial hiccups with the new TFT maps and iPhone connection it is now very stable and working great.
Good to see you are still around! No need to justify your choice. Congrats to a new bike. The barn door is a bit much for my taste but hey, we’re all looking for something else in our bikes. Don’t drop it when you go on gravel.
I feel like BMW bikes are such an awesome car alternative option for those that simply prefer riding everywhere versus driving. Obviously you can really do that on any bike and for far cheaper, but I picked up the F900R as my do-it-all bike including light touring, and with all the conveniences like 90 degree valve stems, tire pressure monitor, cruise control, phone connectivity, keyless entry, which also activates the factory alarm system I fitted on…it all adds up to make living with the bike just that much easier and fuss free on the daily. Now, this RT with the central locking side cases, I’m immensely jealous of that haha, that is SO convenient.
F900r here as well. Great allround bike. Light and nimble. Upgraded with the connectivity cradle now it is all one can ask for (except wind protection)...
@@jimmyvlb Glad to hear you’re enjoying yours as well! As for wind protection, have you checked out Puig’s new line of windscreens? They make two for the F900R, a sportier variant and a taller touring version. I picked up the sport version largely because I didn’t want to detract from the bike’s aesthetics and really, just wanted some protection to help with the wind blast across the chest. I’m 6’2 and the sport windscreen does a great job at providing coverage up to about shoulder length while leaving clean air for my helmet to cut through, no buffeting! And honestly, the windscreen looks like it was designed alongside the designers over at BMW, it really suits the lines of the bike well IMO.
im 6ft tall and the moment i saw GSA in person is like, WTF this is a elephant ride lol. and quickly think, am i really going off road most of the time and the answer is NO. i am looking into this to pair it with my RnineT scrambler. thanks for another awesome vlog.
Welcome back NTP, I am already looking forward to the videos to come. And congratulations on your new purchase, a beautiful bike. And if I may be honest, the RT is a winner. Greetings Erwin " sorry I forgot something, that blue is a beautiful color".
Hey Scott, you are back! Glad to still see you on a (Big) Beamer, didn’t expect that after your dispute on the TFT-screen! It’s a beauty, congrats with the new bike!
Good to hear and see my favorite BMW (Especially RT) reviewer again. Welcome back, Scott. My Sport Blue RT is on it’s way to me now. Please give us more reviews of your new bike now that you own it. I have watched your first RT review many times. Ride safe.
Thank you! Yea, I'll have to do a "nitpick" video of things I find, one that jumps right out at me is how many times the Navi app looses the map navigation while riding. So far it's done it to me several times. So I can see me doing some research on the subject...etc. But riding season is upon us and tomorrow I have the new Husky Norden 901 to review, so it's as usual, feast or famine. :( take care, Scott
@@NothingToProve Hello Scott. Not to be selfish, but I am only interested in your reviews of the RT. (And then to a lesser extent, other BMW motorcycles.) When you have the issue of loosing the map navigation from the TFT, what do you do to bring the display back up? Does this happen while you are riding ? Do you need to park the bike to get the map to redisplay? How do you resolve this issue?
Good to see you back and well. A nice choice of motorcycle and interesting to understand your comparison with a GSA. I've not ridden either but I suspect the RT is going to be more comfortable on long runs, especially behind the large screen with a heated seat! Ride safe.
I think this is a good bike for guys who enjoy travelling on two wheels in maximum comfort. I personally prefer lighter bikes and my favourite bike of all time is my current bike, a gen 1 s1000Xr. Unfortunately I've had my decond back surgery so I eont be riding again sadly. The RT is a good choice though and hope you publish some more content on it in the future.
Hi Scott, welcome back, great to see some videos from you again! At first glance I was a little surprised to see you on the heavy 280kg RT as in the past you said that you prefer the lighter bikes. I bought a fully equiped F900XR end of last year and really love it. yes, fuel tank could be a bit larger and rear break is a little squishy but there is to my opinion currently no other bike in the market (same prize/size) that can compete with that amount of features/specs that the XR has. Of course the RT (as generally most if not all from bikes BMW) is a great machine, hope to see some touring videos from you with it in the future!
Had my R1100RT 22years still loving it,can not justify buying a new one although I have bought loads of other bikes used them then sold them cause nothing compares the comfort reliability and handling of this old Bmw with its barn door fairing and electric screen, even UK to Spain Portugal keeps cool amazing old bike.
Hi Scott congrats on the new bike.I have done 20ks on my 2021 1250rt mainly 2up and it is a great bike. They are surprisingly fast in the tight stuff and a bike I love to ride in any weather.I tend not to ride off road and find the rt much quieter than a gs to ride.Anyone who thinks that BMs are expensive to service look at the 3 year 30k service inclusive package it is a bargain. Also for head protection have a look at MACHINEART MOTO CYLINDER PROTECTOR SET R1250 MODELS they look ok and will save your heads from damage.
I've put over 2k on mine and still love it. The more I ride it the more I love it. Which is unusual for me, cause the more I ride the more I can "nitpick it" but this so far not any. enjoy it! Scott
@@NothingToProve Thanks! Do you have satellite radio on it? Mine goes in and out quite a bit, the antenna is located behind the windshield which could be an issue. Other than that I’m loving the bike also.
It’s very very blue….. hope you like blue….. and it’s not a GSA or never will be. If it floats your boat… good job. I prefer adventure bikes but the only gravel I experience is the crumbly UK back roads…. my point being it’s all about how it makes me feel owning and riding it. Hope to see more posting soon!
My bike is the 2020 BMW1250RS. It is a bit lighter than the RT and I got the set up with an aftermarket screen (Aeroflow) and a MRA deflector. I can still see over the screen and get plenty of protection. I bought it slightly used with Shad handbags on it already and wound up buying the largest rear hardbag to match. Rides just great and I am sure the RT is great.
That's commitment! Trading the bike for the case of filming! Totally agree with you. The GS is built for offroading which it is to big and heavy for anyway. And if the road turns into gravel...just adjust the speed. But I must say, I'm a fan of low weight bikes...and that one is almost as "bad" as a Harley. Bad as Harley? He he! Sorry about the pun sir! Nice to watch another film from you. Stay safe!
Finally one of my very favourite YT channel is back! Thankfully! I totally understand the reasons for the absence. I would like to see your review on an Honda Africa Twin MY22 if you had the chance. Cheers
Love your videos! But I’m 1.98 Meter and I can write that I’ve done multi-day tours on both bikes and for taller riders the GSA is far more comfortable and well worth the price difference.
I agree. In my humble opinion there are two reasons that make GSA a better choice in front of RT (or RS) and heigth of the rider is one of them. The other is the possibility (?) of riding off-road.
Also 1'93cm tall so GS will be more comfortable. Will test the RT this weekend... ;-) RS putted too much weight on my wrists, hope the RT doesn't give me the same feeling...
@@victorcerdan what an awesome surprise the 1250rt was... nothing like the rs... so comfy and agile. Honestly, I was afraid it was going to be a huge behemoth but it was so agile, so nimble, for me better than the GS. Really considering in upgrading. Drove a lot of gs's and simply loved the rt. What a bike.
Three times over the decades I went to the dealer to buy an RT…and three times I left with a GSA. This video makes me want to try a forth time!
what for you need 4th GSA...
Bet you don’t go off road!🥴
And I was going to buy an RS 😀

lovely color! I am still keeping my XR....and the GS... and now you made this video...arrrghhh..awesome pick! Will look forward to more content :)
Backlit handlebar switches would be a great . . . if only BMW knew how much we luv them . . . ZTechnik engine bars are cool.
Glad you are back and CONGRATS! on the bike - looks killer in blue!
Hey Scott! Great to see you moving on the RT. I am for now on a R1200R and loving it! It won hands down vs/ XR900 after a back to back test ride. I have always been in love with the RT but I am somewhat scared when I see it in the flesh 😀
I completely understand the lack of new bikes to test. But now you can give us the “full review” on your new RT 😉👍!
Great to see you back Scott ! Looking forward to a season of great reviews . 🤙🏻
Congrat's on the new bike, suits you Sir!
Glad to see you're back making content!
Welcome back, I missed you! Love this video by the way ;-)
Excellent choice!
I own a 2017 RT and love it. Very excited to see a motorcycle content creator talk about the RT.
Same w/me I bought the matching top box and my RT is my daily run around town bike.
Didn't think you wanted a large tourer. But pleased to see you have converted to an RT and joined the RT club. love mine
Good to see you back and congrats on your new bike. All the best.
Cheers
Great bike Scott 👍you are completely right no one I know take there gs off road . Looking forward to more videos from you👍
Welcome back, glad to see all is well. Love the new bike.
Yea, my wife said the same thing to after riding it, the dealer let me take it home for till I was ready to give it back while I was shooting the 2 videos of it last year, I guess he knew I'd end up with sooner or later :)
Brembo or Hayes, it seems that BMW is having supply chain issues, like ever other OEM right now and they will put whatever part is there to keep the assembly line going. Both have been proven to be good calipers, so no worries there.
BTW, one of my other subscribers called his RT an "Intergalactic Battle Cruiser". LOL! Maybe I'll rename my RT "IBC" LOL!
take care,
Scott
I really enjoyed my years of ‘Sport Touring’ but my knees and carpal tunnel issues pulled me back onto a floorboard bagger.. beautiful RT 👍🏼
Great to see a new video from you Scott, love your new purchase. The RT is a beautiful bike and lets face it as we get a little more grey we want a little more comfort (I own a 2021 Yamaha FJR).
Great to see you posting videos again Scott , nice comfy bike , i can see some long tours coming up , Enjoy.
I've bought one like that, a few weeks ago and love it, same colour as well...
I'd love to see u do a comparison between the k1600gt and RT testing both back to back, keep up the great work 👍
Always enjoy your sensible and mature point of view in motorcycle videos. Congrats on that beautiful RT!
Great to see you back Scott... Missed your videos, hope to see more. Stay safe and ride safe..
Fantastic bike! I own one to same spec can’t fault it ride safe man
Nice move up!...I got a white 2022 R/T it's a blast people think Im a cop...
So glad your back, and very glad everything is good was a bit worried now we know!!! God Bless!!
Let's see what happens 😁👍 We are just talking now, no plans as of yet.
take care,
Scott
nice to see that you're alive. . . and happy to see you on a wonderful RT!!. Good choice!!. Waiting for your next vídeos!!
He lives! Good to see you are well. Congrats on the new ride. I'dve gone for the RS myself. Prolly will once I have room for it in the garage. For now I'll use my Katana as my bargain RS. Looking forward to your next video. Maybe that new Moto Guzzi sport tourer.
Thank you! Yea, the Mandello V100 Guzzi looks really good, can't wait to do a review of it but it won't get here till later this year, if it gets here this year at all 😢
take care,
Scott
Thank you for the info. I like to hear from actual owners of a specific bike. ECO mode noted, I'll try it next time I'm in town :)
take care,
Scott
I knew it ! Congratulations Scott. Nice to see you back ;)
I still have my R 1150 RT .
Love this bike.
I like this bike because I'm only 5'7" and 99% riding on the road.
For off-road I like lighter T7 .
im 6ft tall and the moment i saw GSA in person is like, WTF this is a elephant ride lol. and quickly think, am i really going off road most of the time and the answer is NO. i am looking into this to pair it with my RnineT scrambler. thanks for another awesome vlog.
With your height, you might want to consider the "high" seat option, it brings the seat up another inch.
take care,
Scott
Nice to have you back! Really good choice for a tourer 👍✌
Love your calm and competent approach to moto content. [The new bike] seems to be a great choice! Especially because of long autobahn commutes!
Good to see you Scott, beautiful color on the RT. Happy trails, Cheers.
Hi, you could do other content: 2nd hand bike, maintenance or riding gear, com system, ect. Anyhow nice to see you again.
take care,
Scott
Ride safe.
I wondered if you were really happy with the 900. Great choice and great to see you back!
Good to see you Scott , love the new bike …
Ride like there is nothing to prove …
Just perfect slogan!!
Welcome back Scott. Nice machine there and a big congrats on the RT.
Awesome new bike. Wind protection can't be overrated.
Good to see you back online, bgood luck with the new hike, it looks like a cool machine.
The RT is a far superior bike to your previous XR.You will be able to keep this RT for life.Enjoy your new machine.Cheers.
Good to see you back!
Pulled the trigger on a 2022 Bmw R1250RT last Saturday! Traded in my Triumph Tiger 800. Loving the bike so far!!
@@razur9065 Sorry no. I don't listen to anything when I'm riding.
take care,
Scott
Welcome back. The RT is the rational choice over the GS. Not a question of weight and price but simply comfort.
It’s very very blue….. hope you like blue….. and it’s not a GSA or never will be. If it floats your boat… good job. I prefer adventure bikes but the only gravel I experience is the crumbly UK back roads…. my point being it’s all about how it makes me feel owning and riding it. Hope to see more posting soon!
great choice in bike.....not sure if it gets any better than that. Glad your back....cheers from Canada!
Stay safe!
Hey Scott nice to see you back!
@@vfarias I guess that it will unfortunately be, for you, the same feeling that riding the RS.
@@vfarias good for you!
