    I followed your instructions - and it just works!! Thank you so much from Switzerland.
    And I stick out a long middle finger to BOSE support in Germany whom I called and who provided the most unfriendly support call in my life. Lost any desire to give them any more business whatsoever (speaker is out off warranty). So I fixed it myself!
    Under the multimeter, the shorted diode showed 0.32V in one direction (= O.K.) and 2.85V (= shorted, should be 0.00V) in the other, respectively.

Underneath the board, there is a small rubber plug which is working as a lead through for the speaker cable. If that one is loose, the speaker will sound broken.

      Update: diodes arrived, swapped and perfect. Fix $3. Bose wanted $200 each out of warranty to look at them.
      I wonder, if it happens again, should a higher voltage or higher current diode be used? This diode is 100V. Interestingly, in all my research of this issue, every single one was a 240V version. None of the 110V US folk seem to be reporting the issue. Do they not use these there? or is the voltage different breaking them?

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kelvincoffey3121 Maybe the ones made for the US market used a different batch of diodes? From memory this is the output rectifier for that rail so the primary voltage shouldn't matter. A higher current capable diode may be a permanent fix.

    Thanks for the video. My Acoustimass 300 stopped working today. I contacted Bose and they want me to ship the unit to their repair shop in Auckland and have it repaired all at my expense. I’ve had it for 3 years but I’m going to fight this to the death with the consumer guarantees act. A high end stereo should last 10+ years, not 3 and then kaput. Nice to know what the issue is but unfortunately I don’t have the tools or the know how to repair it myself plus I don’t want to touch it if I can get Bose to repair it for me.

    • @JonnyFix

      I don't know much about this unit as this is the first time I've seen one. Looking at 7seconds in on the bottom right of the board there is a line like _|-|_|-|_|-|_ each side of a rectangle, this will be the bluetooth antenna and if you follow not far from that toward the center of the board you come to a small square black chip. I'm guessing this will be the bluetooth controller chip. Search for a datasheet for the number on top of that chip to know for sure. If you should be able to connect a phone to the soundbar but can't then maybe the fault is in there instead. Good luck!

      @zahir: Even I am using Aux cable to connect it to Soundbar 700. I searched all Bose forums . Looks like it's a well known issue with Bose bass modules but bose don't have a solution for it other than unplug it for 30 secs and plug the power cable back and try. Such a shame that all expensive Bose products have (sply soundbars and bass modules) have many issues.

      Have similar issue. Bass module Bose 700 worked fine with Bose Sound bar 700 and two surround speakers for over one year. Apparently without any reason, bass module started to blink amber, white and after several such cycles the led sequence was amber (ca. 1sec), white (ca. 3sec) and red. Needless to say the bass module doesn't work. Sometimes for unknown reason the bass module works ok but after switching off, the same issue occurs again. • @JonnyFix

      No. Bose states red blinking means firmware error. It's possible when the diode failed it was writing to the firmware, or the voltage was briefly something the chip couldn't handle and now the firmware is corrupt or chip is dead. Maybe you can find someone to give you a dump of their chip to flash yours with. If that doesn't work the chip might be bad so flash a new one. Sorry I can't be any more help.

    Maybe the leaded diode introduced too much parasitic inductance and caused issues at higher frequency?

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was just a bad diode breaking down under stress as I found another leaded diode that worked ok just to prove the point. Interesting theory though, if possible not sure if that would have more of an affect in power rectification or in signal processing.
