    The exterior looks of the CX-50 are better than the CX-5 imho, but that's the only real "plus" I can agree on. Also, I just survived, and walked away from, a head on collision in a 2021 CX-5 GT AWD in March, and so when I found a '22 C-X5 Signature as CPO for $34k in May, I bought it on the spot. With just 7k miles, I have a better-than-new warranty, loaded with every option, excellent safety rating, & the #1 ranking for reliability by Consumer Reports. I've been driving Mazdas only for 20 years, but prices are rising too fast lately, for less content. I know I got lucky on my new CX-5 w/respect to the price AND Signature model being available. The CX-50 Meridian Edition seems like an overpriced trim level...for some graphics & smaller rims...that lacks the Bose Audiopilot Sound System, Nappa Leather, ventilated seats, etc. that are standard on the CX-5 Signature. Plus the CX-5 has the #1 rated safety & reliability scores from Consumer Reports, based on over a decade of data. Finally, the CX-5 is made in Japan. I have a friend who works at Mazda USA, and for now, he states that the CX-70 that is coming next year, combined with the CX-50, will replace the CX-5 after the 2024 MY. The delay for the CX-70 is partially due to the CX-5 sales going through the roof everywhere it's for sale, despite hefty price increases annually since 2017. A similarly equipped CX-70 will cost at least $25k more than the current CX-5 Sig. It may handle better...and the turbo inline 6, RWD platform is more "premium" than the current CX-5, too...but it's not THAT much better. Again, JMHO

    • @vindictiv6880
      @vindictiv6880 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Here in canada, the medium trim (called GT) comes with everything you said that is supposedly missing in the cx50. I do agree meridian (which is simply GT but with hood graphics, a roof rack and offroad tires) is stupid expensive for no reason though.

    • @vinnie4400
      @vinnie4400 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vindictiv6880 I agree, and have had 3 CX-5 models. The 2019 GT FWD with the GT prem pkg was a good deal, since I did not need AWD, the base engine seemed good, & I had pretty much every option except for the SXM travel link, surround view camera & safety alerts. It cost me $27.5k as a lightly used CPO. Then I traded for the '21 GT AWD w/GT prem pkg, and I loved it. It was the same as what you have in Canada, and the gas mileage hardly changed, but it was totaled. The safety alone had me searching everywhere for another low mileage CPO GT model.
      I got a notification about a '22 Signature from Autotrader...and it was listed for over $1k less than I paid for the '21 GT model...at a BMW dealer in Tennessee. I bought it that day, and at first I was concerned about gas mileage & premium fuel. Yes, it costs more, but the turbo does make for a more enjoyable drive. I would have bought another GT, though, like you have, had I found one first. The seller agreed to the same extra year/12,000 miles you get from Mazda's CPO deal, so it was hard for me NOT to upgrade.

      The CX-70 is a significantly larger car. It's the size of a 3-Row SUV. It's also the most well-equipped Mazda, with the most tech and features. I think it justifies being significantly more than a CX-5. I also work at Mazda, and I don't believe there are plans to get rid of the CX-5. It's their best selling car by far. Can't 100% confirm, but I believe they're more likely to do a redesign

    • @vinnie4400
      @vinnie4400 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnsolomita1888 Thanks for posting. My dealer states that Mazda doesn't tell him much about future products. A year ago he was sure that the CX-70 for the U.S. was a unique, smaller RWD model...already sold in other markets as the CX-60. I'm seeing some outlets reporting that the CX-5 will be back for 2025 or 26, and using Toyota's Hybrid power train only. None of those "reports" cite anything official from Mazda, though. Is that what you are hearing at Mazda? Or do you still think the CX-5 will get a full redesign, on a FWD/AWD design, retaining most of the trims & spec's, with perhaps a hybrid model available? Finally, the CX-60 that uses the new, RWD platform, the inline 6, & the PHEV model does not appear to be as big as the CX-70/90. Is that accurate?
      The CX-60 reviews I've watched are from Australia, & while it has had some of the same "new model" bugs as the U.S. CX-90, it actually appears to be much closer in size to the CX-5/50. So that would suggest that there is a unique, shortened version of Mazda's RWD platform already being made by Mazda, complete with the I-6 & PHEV power trains. Do you think it's ever coming to the U.S.,? If so, I can''t see Mazda carrying 3 compact SUV's. What do you think?

    I don't like the big seam which runs down the middle of the seats. I have a fractured spine and I would not like that digging in while driving. CX-5 has independent rear suspension, I don't need it to be an off roader, just good in the snow when necessary. C6-5 also made in Japan. My father is hard of hearing and on trips we couldn't converse at all due to road, and other noises. CX-5 is whisper quiet at 75 mph. In my 2018 GT the screen is touch when standing still, and only controller knob when moving, which is fine by me as there are enough distractions on the road these days without looking at a touch screen while driving. I scan music stations by using the control knob without looking at the screen at all.

      Regarding the road noise of the CX-50 vs CX-5, did they have the same tires? Tires make a HUGE difference in road noise. Yes, the CX-5 will be a little quieter with the same tires, because it is slightly slipperier aerodynamically and has some acoustic glass, but "whisper quiet" vs "can't carry on a conversation" quieter?

    It's quite amusing how some car companies are pricing their gas-powered vehicles at the same level as electric cars. I recall that financially savvy individuals used to prefer buying 2 to 3-year-old cars, and in today's market, it's become a reality. My wife and I have a combined income of over $260,000, and considering our children and future college expenses, owning a Tesla isn't in our plans. Opting for two car payments in the range of $350 to $450 each, rather than two payments between $850 and $1100 each, just makes financial sense. We intend to invest every extra dollar wisely, rather than splurging on brand-new, fancy cars.

      We purchased a Honda CR-V in 2021 and while I was always the guy who bought 3 year old cars, there was so little difference between a 3 year old used car and a new car, it made no sense. Used car prices at the time had skyrocketed but MSRP had not yet been changed for new cars. Our local Honda dealer was not yet charging above MSRP as many other dealers had started to do.
      Fast forward to today. That Honda was just totaled. Wife sitting at stop light and was rear-ended, guy never slowed down. We are now shopping. Observations: 1) I was shocked at how little the Honda depreciated after 3 years, and 2) because of the increases in new car prices since then , it now makes sense again to buy a 3 year old car. That same model and trim package today is $10K more new than the 2021 version.

      And that, for young people just starting out with student loans and frustration over not being able to have everything instantly, is how previous generations worked toward what they wanted. Budget, compromise, be realistic, sacrifice a few things to get the one or 2 biggest things, then add the luxuries back n when you get caught up. Every generation has it much easier for some things, but harder for others. People weren't saddled with huge loans a while back, but only wealthy kids expected to graduate without working their way through. Loans and grants just paid for tuition and some expenses--not housing, food, etc. You expected to rent for years before buy a home and only rich-ish kids got NEW cars, let alone paid for by their parents. You expected to work a long time in one place-- at least 5 years--before getting more than a very minor promotion. You could be turned down for health coverage if you had so much as a low thyroid or brief depression, which meant you had to remain employed full-time n order to have health care! But our parents had one family car, no student aid, and often no health insurance. Thy worked forever in the same place lest they be considered a "job hopper", and called their supervisors "Mister" even in the grocery store aisle.

      I had a 2017 CX-5 but then switched to the 2021 with the turbo. The turbo is *very* responsive and gives you that burst of power when you want/need it. I absolutely love it. The non-turbo is slow off the line and that was a big downer for me It's better once you're at speed and need the extra punch. Both great and fun to drive, especially on windy roads.

    I don’t like that fading/pulsing turn signal thing that Mazda is doing. Old school incandescent bulbs already have that soft on/fade and I think the sharp on off of LED bulbs look much more modern. I saw one of these where the car was indicating to turn and I didn’t even realize that the cars was actually signaling because the light didn’t have the sharp on/off.

    For being partly owned by Toyota I’m disappointed. With the emptiness in the front dash there’s no storage slot. Also driver vertical ac vent and passenger horizontal looks odd. If your getting one why pay $43k you can get used Lexus RX350 which is actual luxury. A base CX50 is $30k with partial leather and practically priced.

      With how insane new/used car prices are, 45k is a deal. They're quite willing to work with you on interest rate too -- dealers _love_ the newer, higher prices of the cars, but no one wants to buy at 8% on a new vehicle. I ended up getting 3.5% on my 50 -- quite a step up from an overpriced Mazda 3 @ 7.25%!!

    I’m summarize the story here: You go to the dealer for the CX-50, you end up getting the CX-5 and not looking back. If you put in 30 min to an hour of research you will understand. That being said, if the outer looks are so important, or the off road mode, or the optionof the extended sunroof, then the CX-50 makes sense… if those aren’t big on your need list, the CX-5 is better.
