The CX-5 is more time tested and built in Japan. The CX-50 is built in Alabama, is newer, costs more, and has sportier steering. The CX-30 is built in Mexico, and is cheaper and smaller.
Yes, but that plant in Alabama is shared by Toyota. I'm with you, but I don't know how big of a deal it is. I would prefer a Japanese build but I'm not sure it's a deal breaker. The CX-50 is definitely more stylish and a tad more practical for nature lovers...
Just purchased my 2024 CX-5 Carbon Edition non turbo, because I can’t trust myself with too much HP lol. I’m loving the red seats with the grey contrast! I agree Im still struggling with the infotainment system, but I’ll figure it out. I’m happy I joined the Mazda community.
One thing I think wasn't covered is that Mazda has been offering incentives on their models like $750 off a CX-5GT up to $2000 off for the trims above. While the CX-50 is a handsome vehicle the CX-5 would be my choice mainly because of the Japanese build quality, the 40/20/40 split in the backrow, and larger windows for visibility out the sides.
Both are great SUV's, you can't go wrong with either one. Sometimes when I'm here on Florida's streets I see a vehicle aproaching and I think "there is a Tesla coming over there. Oh no, it's a Mazda!" Really good job done by Mazda designers. And the interiors are even better, you get a lot of car for the money.
Tesla is yuck anyway…the Mazda looks way better! Tesla’s really are kind of boring, considering what you pay for them!
Mazda did well by staying away from Ford's parts bin
My previous Mazda was awesome until a legacy Ford part failed at 140k.
Now that the divorce is complete, Mazdas have climbed close to Toyota in long term quality.
That's true 🙄👌
@@0HOON0the only reason I was cool with trading my 2017 RAV4 for a 2024 CX-50 is because Mazda is really close in reliability to Toyota! I just love how the CX-50 drives as compared to my old RAV4
Perhaps true however - the ford explorer was the only with high 80% survivability when smashed by heavy truck in rear end - I believe the Audi got a good score - all others like bmw and Lexus the passengers and drivers would be killed outright . Not sure how Ford managed this within explorer model.
@@combinedeffects4799yeah casud that happens everyday.
Good thing fords reliabilty rating is so low, it’ll force you to be safer by staying at the shop. You’ll be force to stay home.
The CX-5 is the second most reliable small suv after the Rav4 and it's much nicer to drive. The Honda CR-V reliability has been mixed in recent years.
Buy from Japan whenever you have the chance.
Currently have my 3rd Mazda cx-5. Love it and thinking about a 4th CX-5. Being 80 yr.old, I've had Pantfinders, Rav's and Blazers. CX-5 is the one I like best.
😊
My wife and I have a 2016 CX5. It’s in my name and has been my third Mazda. We both love it. My wife calls it her car as she wants to drive it all the time. We are replacing her Honda Fit with a Subaru Crosstrek in the next couple of months so that I can get my CX5 back.
I have a 2014 CX5 and I love it, just turned 128000 miles and have only done general maintenance to it.
Good review, Thanks Shari
I just reserved a CX 5 sports design a few weeks ago! We loved the driving capabilities!
Here in Canada, CX-5 starts at 32,250 and CX-50 -from 39,300. So, the difference is 7K plus taxes that is pretty significant!
We have a 2023 Acura RDX A spec Elite and a CX5 100th Anniversary model. Both are quality SUVs, fun to drive. Both would be more confortable on the road with better tires than the Goodyear RSA for the RDX and the Toyos on the CX5. Like your reports very much!
Just leased a cX-50 for my daughter. Picking it up today. Thanks for the video.
To me CX 50 is better looking. I’m considering this as my next vehicle.
Ironically I have both. 2017 Cx5 and 2023 cx50. I prefer the 50 but for trivial reasons. Like the seats, slightly nicer, rear seating and more usable truck space with the way it is designed. I also was always bothered by the cup holder position in the cx5 getting in way of gear shift and smaller center arm rest. But both are wonderful handling cars and enjoyable to drive. Both are turbo models. Reliability is proven on the cx5 and so far so good on the cx50.
I get my CX-50 tomorrow. Technically the CX-50 should be the exact same as the CX-5 no?
Engine yes, handling very similar but driving position is different and feel is different.
@@JonAutomateshow are you liking your 50??
We just traded a 21 CX-5 Signature for a 24 CX-50 GT with turbo. We didn't see a 24 CX-5 Signature to compare but the 50 has all the improvements we wanted. Quite a bit more roomy, nicer seats, bigger screen, features and a far better stereo. With rebates, great trade value and tax only on the difference, we feel we made a great choice. Black with Terracotta.
I did the same, I reserved mine, GT Turbo - white with Terracotta interiors.
I got the 2024 Cx-50 premium in all black and I’m very happy with the purchase! I’ve doesn’t like it cause the lack of technology and the control knob thing but she thinks it’s a nice car other than that. I like it cause it’s more of a drivers car as opposed to my 2017 RAV4
Thank you for telling us which model is assembled in Japan!
Warranty in Canada is awesome … 3 year unlimited klm bumper to bumper and 5 year unlimited klm power train warranty … drive as much as you want for five years and you have coverage! Pretty smokin deal!
Any comment on the cx50 non-turbo rear differential reliability issue referenced by numerous sources on Reddit?
I’m looking forward to get the Cx 50 since I need more room so I have wait until August to get mine
Cx-50 for me all day. Longer, wider, lower :) and better tow rating + pano sun roof
CX-50 for me. Looks more robust and planted, and handsome too!
We have both at home and the cx50 feels more premium ride and secure feeling behind the wheel.
Love my 2024 CX 5. It’s a unique vehicle with a great heritage that may not be in production much longer. I’m thrilled I got one.
There’s not a dang thing wrong with the base engine. In fact, for urban use, it has a lot of pop. As far as the ride, if you want cushy-gushy, buy something else. If you want handling and fun, go CX 5. As far as gas mileage, the AWD Honda CRV with the base engine is rated about the same mpg. 27-32. The Mazda is 24-30. I’m getting 27 legitimate
combined …20% highway 80% city with only 2000 miles under my belt. So,based on the comparison numbers and my usage, I’m spending about $10-15 / month more on gas than if I drove a CRV. Wow, that’s disgusting.
I have a 2016.5 CX5 and am considering changing to a newer version. Either one looks like it will work well.
CX-5 for me. Just can't get past the cladding (maybe if they color coded the cladding) on the CX-50 and the torsion beam rear. Both cars have upscale interiors and turbos impress with power. My friend has a CX-9 and it gets about 27 mpg and no problems with anything with 70k on the odometer.
They changed the torsion beam to an independent rear suspension for 2024. But I’ve been driving my 2024 CX-50 for 10 days now….zero complaints. Hope that stays that way for the long term!
I’m with you, I hate the cladding and I also prefer that it’s made in Japan, I know that it’s been made properly.
Test drove cx50, while i had a cx3 as my daily , planned to trade , but instanly i decided to get cx5 without drive testing and i love, like it.i feel that interior materials in cx5 is way better, the plastic parts to be specific…
I enjoyed watching your video on the mazda cx5 and cx50 compared the two with the Toyota rav4 natural aspirated engine or the turbo in the mazda which out of the three vehicles you would personally purchase base on reliability driving dynamic and dependability you are the expert looking forward for your respond. stay safe and keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Thank you!
@@carhelpcorner u r welcome
The hybrid Toyota or Honda could be a better choice if they are more approachable. The price for RAV4 hybrid is fine but it requires an at least 18 months of waiting time. And Honda is insane that the hybrid is only equipped on the top two trims in CRV and the minimum price is same as an Audi Q3 baseline. In addition and of course, Honda’s price is non-negotiable, which makes it more expensive than a luxury brand.
I purchased a 2023 CX 50 turbo, and I love it. I chose it over the CX 5 for the higher towing capacity and because I really like the interior and exterior styling over the CX 5. I also love the panoramic roof, which is not available on the CX 5. I have no regrets.
Have you used it with premium gas? If you have, did you notice any difference in performance?? Thanks.
@@imeanithonest5704 own it, have used both types of gas. i only buy premium now honestly. its not much, not a deal breaker at all, but that extra bit of kick is worth it for me
What should I buy in Canada? 2024 Cx50 GT vs 2024 Cx5 signature? My requirements are city driving, small family of 3 long city to city highway driving on weekends and No off roading and No towing.
This CX50, is only for north America market. Faring./Miles on the dash Board, can Europe buyers convert to metric: Celc./Km??? And FM 88-108 even numbers on media sistem? Via Menu in Settings?
I will go for 2024 CX 5 carbon edition
I wish we got the CX-60 in North America. We won’t but I am looking forward to CX-70. That may be my next car.
Hi. I would like to get a CX5 but I am not sure to get a turbo or not. Normally, I use my car for long-term like 8 or 10 years. I watched your other video regarding turbo issues in each and every brand. So, what do you suggest when it comes to Mazda especially when the turbo module is on the back side of the engine(which makes the repair really difficult)? Thank you in advance.
The 2.5 Turbo is a very solid reliable engine. It has been used in the CX-9 and has proven to be reliable in that vehicle. I own a CX-5 Turbo and absolutely love it. The key with Turbos is to run good quality gas and do regular oil changes(VERY Important in a Turbo engine) Also driving them normal will prolong the life of a Turbo engine. So many people buy a Turbo and drive the hell out of them and wonder why they have problems.
I have a 2021 CX-30 2.5T Premium Plus... with all turbos, I've heard that it's recommended to let the engine idle for 60-90 seconds after spirited driving to give the turbo a chance to cool down before shutting down the engine. I've been doing that with no engine issues so far. Just a suggestion.
CX 5 turbo AWD is my choice
Cx5...for me!
Why u didnt posted it before i ended up buying a 2024 mazda3 turbo
Being a Lotus guy, smaller and lighter is ALWAYS better, in my world. But until they offer a Hybrid, no sale.
Of these two, CX-5.
I'm watching a TON of videos- on several vehicles-- and have narrowed my search to the CX-5 or CX-50 and i'm leaning on the CX-50 even though it's more expensive and will cost me a few thousand MORE than even the listed price PLUS add ons.. because i will have to REPLACE the RETARDED 20" wheels which should NEVER be put on ANY vehicle- much less one that goes "off-pavement" to rough roads-- that's JUST STUPID- for any company.. so that will cost me a bunch to change to 17" wheels and thicker tires (more sidewall-- for better ride- longer lasting- ability to air down in bad weather- and less puncture risk and more)..
Thanks
Thank you!
I'd choose the CX-50, even though it's not built in Japan. I just love the station wagon look.
CX5 hands down! Test drove a CX50 not near as solid or nice as the CX5.
lol go above 80 mph on the highway and may be do a little quick turn on the steering and damn CX-5 will roll over 🤣😂😅 nd also around the corners ha ha
Unfortunately no Hybrid? Are you crazy? That's Mazda's most appealing quality lol! Many will n are ... going out of our way to avoid Hybrids... JS
These cars are great to drive and we considered both of them for our family car but decided against both of them in favour of a Honda Passport. Problem for me with the Mazda CX-5/50 is the size for taller drivers (I’m 6’2” and the ceiling felt way too close in the driver or front passenger seat) and also a minor gripe with the placement of the cup holders. It’s done differently in both, yet terrible in both IMO. The cup holders in the CX-5 is too far back for average sized drivers like my wife and the CX-50 is too far in front such that when using taller cups, they’re liable to touch the dash. Other than that, both are really wonderful to drive. Best dynamics.
I've had three Mazdas over the years: original RX-7 in 1978, a 2005 3, and now a 2014 6...all told, a combined 500k miles with only a failed air compressor on the 3 and a sensor or two on the 6...nothing major...very reliable vehicles. Now considering a 2024 CX-50 Meridian, but no matter how many 'reviews' I watch, not a one has mentioned anything about the cylinder activation (base engine made in Mexico) or the start/stop feature (turbo engine made in Japan). I definitely want nothing to do with cylinder deactivation, which leaves the turbo engine. Can the start/stop feature be turned off or fully deactivated? I really want nothing to do with that either from an engine 'wear' standpoint.
Got my CX50 a week ago and I love just about everything about it EXCEPT the steering. It’s the heaviest/tightest steering I’ve ever experienced. Turning at slower speeds feels unnecessarily difficult to me. Trying to figure out if I genuinely dislike it or if I’m just not used to it. Anyone out there who didn’t initially like the steering but grew to love it?
@@ThisismydogYT thank you for the reply! Very helpful, I think I’ll try to stick with it then
Have you ever driven a mazdaspeed3? Lol i haven't driven a cx50 yet but i can guarantee it's not nearly as intense, sometimes the wheel likes to rip out of your hands under heavy acceleration
@@shadowguma The CX50 is actually the first Mazda I’ve ever driven. The mazdaspeed3 definitely sounds intense! Lol. I’m getting more and more used to the steering
@@0614falconok, are you loving it by now??
@@guitarplayer4429 actually yes! Still think it’s too tight at slow speeds (like in a parking lot) but it feels great otherwise
Love to see hybrid for cx-50
How reliable and how strong are their resale value?
Resale is horrible, still bought one lol😅😂
@@brolyvi1211thank you
Love my mazda cx 30
I like them both
Both are beautiful 🙄👌
Cx50 looks more like a wagon than an SUV. Kinda reminds me of Subaru Outback.
RAV4 is reliable car but it is not quiet, lot of wind and road noise. It get costlier if you match cx5 carbon edition features - heated leather seat, moonroof, power lift gate, 19 inch wheels. RAV4 cargo space is good but rear passenger leg room is tight.
RAV4 is also 3 cylinder. With CVT
@@guitarplayer44293 cylinder?!? You sure about that?
@@tklakers no I’m not, some trims may be I don’t know, i thought u read that somewhere during my research, but I may have confused it with the Chevy trailblazer.
Cx5
CX-5 is the better choice
CX5 made in HIROSHIMA JAPAN LIKE A JAPANESE CAR SHOULD BE IS GOID ENOUGH FOR ME!!
Torsion beam rear suspension
Let us make a video about RAV4 hyrbid vs NX 350 h please.
The Cx-5 seems like the better value
CX 50, but only because of the look of the CX 50
Cannot compare hybrid with conventional engine. If you are willing to pay at least 10k more; then go for it.
Good video as always.
I leased a 2021 Mazda CX30 , and by the middle off next year, I will return it.
I will like to have a better fuel economy car .
Maybe I would go for Honda or a Toyota hybrid.
Thanks for the video.
CX-5
I lke CX50 better, but the seats are uncomfortable.
The CX5 cuz the 50 won’t fit in my garage…lol
The CX-5 looks like an 8 year old design. Whereas even with the minor styling changes on CX-50, it is enough to make it modern.
Forester and CRV don't look as good as CX50 and don't handle as well. This review seems like a plug for them
So basically you’re telling us that there’s not enough difference with either of those models to warrant buying either of them over a RAV-4.
The CX50 is the one to get
RAV4 is 3 cylinder with CVT
Avoid Hybrid, Turbo and CVT engines if you want your vehicles to last.
Wrong
The Hybrid will be using the Toyota Hybrid system which is decades of no issue use
The batteries last for decades?@@allanzylbert1306
Toyota hybrids have been around for 2 decades with no issues.
My mazdaspeed3 is going on 12 years now and it still runs like a champ. Never had an issue with the turbo and i drive it hard everytime i drive
Both are no difference. No good. Waiting for new design
Mazda. Always the brides maid. Never the bride.

Mazda always the better car to drive and looks better, so that's looking like the winner

Illogical. Sales data says otherwise. 🤓
My prediction is that Mazda is really going to struggle in the next 5 years! They really went the wrong direction in so many ways and in so many body styles. The cx90 and cx-30 are such losers in their categories, the mazda3 is too small for regular size males, the cx50 is like an elongated cheaper looking CX-5, and the CX-5 is too old in the tooth. The only thing Mazda has going for it is the Miata, and even that is such a niche vehicle... Forget about it... Two dealerships I'll never walk into for a while now: Mercedes and Mazda.
Did you smoke cr… for breakfast?!
Lmao this guy is into something.
Your predictions are way off. Japanese vehicles are what everyone wants. American build vehicles will continue to be overpriced and fall apart quickly. I would drive a Mazda any day of the week vs BMW and Mercedes.
True. Mazda is declining quicker than expected. Sad really 😞
Wow, you really missed the mark on this
torsion beam rear cx-50..nope
