Good honest review, mostly aesthetics. I own one and find the brakes to be a lot tighter and responsive than my old vehicle (Honda). Also, I am a bit older than you and was taught how to accelerate a 4 cyl. engine. When they first came out, many moons ago, I was taught to slowly and steadily increase pressure on the accelerator and the engine will respond much better than mashing it down quickly, especially when coming out of a turn. That's how I drive mine and have no problem with the inherent hesitation that other drivers encounter and complain about. Ya want quick acceleration, get a v-6 but you'll sacrifice mpg. Also, you can switch between sport and normal driving modes with the tap of the toggle switch. I usually drive in sport mode when driving at or under 25-30 mph, bump it back to normal when driving above. Makes me feel like I'm "actively" driving my car. If you are carrying on conversations with passengers or talking on your cell, your attention is not focused on driving and can lead to accidents, tickets or to you being the recipient of a road rage incident. Best wishes.
Thanks for this honest review! This helped solidify my decision to buy one because I had some of the same small "nitpicks" about this car, but ultimately fell in love with it!
You use the word "hate" but then you admit they are "nit-picking" things. Cosmetic issues that you make a big deal of and a few things that seem like legit issues but your video demeanor comes off as nit-picking as a whole. Couple of real complaints are things that you could have figured out and knew about from your test-drive and examination, hence no complaint like Gas mileage and response (a million reviews on youtube, detailed breakdown on handling and throttle-brake response.). Panoramic -you should have seen the limits on first look at the vehicle. Better wheels to fit the off-road feel ( again a million youtube reviews detail the smoothness/luxury aspects rather than off-road prowress - but your wheel issue would have been solved by buying the Meridian PKG. I speced a Meridian for $42K with all-terain tires - off-road capable more than the reg tires you "hate"... again.. you saw them at test drive right? I think the title of this video should have been "5 minor concerns and a couple of pay attentions"
I'm considering the 2025 cx50 premium. It has 17" wheels, should be smoother ride. No stitching issue with the seats. Still has premium sound. Non turbo, better gas mileage.
Interesting feedback. Most of the things on your list fo not bother me at all, but I kind of agree on a few of them. 1. The middle vent does look a bit out of place, but as long as it can be positioned to blow where you want it, I don’t really mind it. 2. The cargo door not opening unless all doors are unlocked is a bit if a pain. I picked someone up from the airport, pulled up to the loading area and tried to open the hatch and nothing. I’ll admit it took me a couple extra minutes to figure it out. 😏 3. Gas mileage could be better I agree. On a related note, I know you didn’t mention the IStop feature, and I know a lot of people don’t like it, but to my knowledge, mine has never engaged so I’m wondering if that’s hurting my gas mileage even more? 😕 4. I have no problem with the seats and can’t imagine anyone feeling the stitching on their butt crack unless they’re driving naked. (Or they have the whole “ Princess and the Pea” thing going on)😏 5. One thing not mentioned here is that my CX50 gets water spots something terrible😡 Noticeably worse than any other car I’ve had. I’ve had it waxed, but may need a ceramic coat or something 😢
I just test drove days ago. The panoramic roof opens up well beyond that support bar. The button operation is interesting. You have to slide the button back and that opens it full depth. I can't recall if it's press and hold or press once. I know from a fully closed position, hitting the button once opens it about 6". You hit or hold the button again to go further back. I borrowed a 2024 Mazda CX-50 Turbo Premium. But in theory the panoramic should work same in every model.
I've owned the CX-50 (Preferred Plus) since October '22. This is a really nice review, and pretty much spot on compared to my experience. The esthetics are certainly not a deal breaker, by any stretch. The only real complaint that I have is the sound system in the PP is pretty weak. After 66 years of loud music, the treble end of sound is becoming irrelevant, but I would certainly enjoy more bass. My gas mileage is better than yours- not sure if it's driving style, or the non turbo compared to turbo, but I get 26 to 28 mpg on the highway when I drive less than 80. 22 in the city. Compared with the 14 mpg that I got with my Accord EX-L with the 6 cylinder engine, I can't complain about that. I miss the horsepower and torque that my last Accord had, but the driving experience, coupled with the versatility the Mazda offers more than makes up for it
what's best for cleaning that rubber dashboard? the radio is touchy on mine and there needs to be a cancel button for the seatbelt alarm cause it beeps for like 3mins lol, i want some fog lights, i shouldve paid for the boise speakers lol
The mileage confuses .... I have a 2014 ATS that gets average about 24 mpg. But, that's a turbo v6 with over 330 hp and 0-60 in about 4 seconds... So the Mazda doesn't have a the power/speed or the MPG... ?? Why?
When you have the car in sport mode, can you just hit the right paddle to shift to the next higher gear? I do this sometimes in my Macan when it is in sport mode.
I love my CX5 ,but I am still looking for someone to explain to me are these SUVs or cars. Do to the wheel size, these are not ment for offroading and the stiffness of the struts, they are too stiff over the smallest of bumps! Those are my main complaints ,also coming from a 2019 Mazda 3 premium .
To be honest the upshifting is super slow only in the cx50, the upshifting is faster in cx5, cx30 and 3/6 turbo models, but it shifts extremely slow in the cx50 at full throttle, I don’t know why mazda tuned this transmission this slow on the cx50
Test drove this power train combo in several Mazdas over the years and they always felt not all that powerful and feel strained and coarse when you really step on it.
If you lock the doors.. then try to open the door.. it won’t open.. the trunk is the same way so it makes sense. I haven’t heard anything about the power train having problems so if these are your complaints, the car is a 10/10
I also hate that the car shuts off when you open the door when using remote start. Not sure why it does that. I drive a Kia sportage and ford explorer for work and neither of those cars turn off when I open the door.
Aesthetics aside, MPG is one of my biggest issues, I drive very little in the city and I get ~17mpg. On highway long trips, we got to ~25MPG at best... that is just not what they advertise and WAY lower than what competition can do. But I own it now, so I get to live with it.
Get a pedal commander for your 50. I got one for my cx9 and it changed it to a different beast. I could not believe the difference in throttle response. Try it!!
I just got my own CX50. Is there something wrong with mine? Shouldn't these have mirrors that sync with the seating position? My 2020 Mazda 3 Hatch was a preferred package and had the ability to move the mirrors when I hit my seating position. My M3 had much better features tbh. If anyone wonders why I seem nitpicky on this it is because I work at a job during the winter where my car has to sit out all day in the snow. Trying to scrape off Ice or snow at the end of the work shift sets my mirrors off. My M3 made it so they would reset right to where they should be. Although I do enjoy being higher up off the road given the weather here in the northeast. It just lacks a few things IMO. I managed to land a turbo which is great! Lost out on my Bose sound system sadly.
@@jubbalandcars apparently after doing some more digging, its only a feature for the mirrors on yours. The Turbo Premium and Turbo Premium Plus. I wonder if its just a programmable thing that they dont do for the other trims. I just have the basic Turbo trim
1. Grab handle interferes with my knee - we got the cx-5 instead which has a nicer interior. 2. Vents are neither thoughtful nor aesthetic. 3. Doors sound tinny when closing. 4. Would love it if the pano-sunroof were optional...the downside is like putting an extra 150 lbs on the roof. 5. Throttle and brake on the cx5 turbo are GREAT - why not the same on the cx-50? 6. Why not have same wheels as cx-5? Looking forward to seeing the 2025 updates.
How about the headlights bc it seems like the inner lights are fake they don’t work or I don’t know how to turn them on . Do you know if they are real and if they are how do you turn them on
Most are not happy there is no hybrid option available yet, like the Corolla Cross built at the same factory in Alabama. It looks like the CX-70 will have the hybrid option instead of the turbo inline 6, for a bajillion dollars for a 3 row.
“Most”? Based on how few CX-50’s there are on dealer lots I’d argue that’s not the case. Plenty of people looking for a simple, fun-ish reliable car avoid hybrids and EV’s like the plague. People who enjoy driving Mazdas often like driving actual cars, not soulless batteries. EV’a are for people who are more into their phones than their cars.

Hey! I love your videos and wanted to ask if you'll consider doing a review of the '24 CX-50? I see them in transit to a lot of dealers around me, and I know they're advertising new dampers and retuned steering for 2024. One thing to note is that, Mazda USA has said that the new dampers and steering are not coming to the 24 model until late November, whereas my dealer mentioned that they all will have the dampers and steering (even the summer 24s). I'd love to hear your take on how the 24 feels compared to the 23, especially since you've been dailying a 23 and are very in tune with the driving dynamics of your cars. Thanks! Keep up the quality content :)
@@tomnelson5815 no kidding, they absolutely ruined the outback with that god awful cheap black plastic everywhere - it scuffs sooo easily too and looks terrible.
Test drove two times, trying to understand the philosophy and purpose of this vehicle: I found it too stiff , too uncomfortable . Also feels very heavy. But really love the design, bought the Eclipse Cross Ralliart instead, no regrets at all
I’m a huge Mitsubishi fan too ! In the past 10 years I’ve had 2 Outlander Sports and one Outlander. Over 250k miles trouble free. ZERO factory defects and excellent gas mileage of 27 city and 32 hwy with air conditioner on. My opinion is they are a bargain.
I think it’s insane that the number one thing they advertise is that it’s the first Mazda with a panoramic sunroof and it literally opens fully less than my 1993 Honda accord my first car when I was 16. Like what?
With respect- seems like all of these issues won't occurre if you would have gotten the base model. (Plus a savings of $11 grand.) To each his own but I'm personally considering the base model.
Great review, the seats are definitely very uncomfortable , I believe the leather seats are the culprit, I can totally feel the stitching in the middle of the leather seats, so if you are buying this car definitely test drive and spend a good amount of time to see if the seats are comfortable or not. Most cars have shitty wireless chargers , the best one I have seen so far is Toyota crown. I didn’t like the key fob too, it’s super light, feels like a toy and button on the side are just stupid. The position of cup holders in the center console is definitely weird if you put a taller bottle it starts coinciding with the dashboard. I like driving my car however the uncomfortable seats just ruins the driving experience.
Yes i noticed the brake was crap on this CX-50 compared to the CX-5. Very frustrating. My other pet peeve is lack of head room in rear. The rest is fine. Also i wish they would stop calling this an SUV. It's not. It's a damn car. To me a SUV is taller has much more room than these. Brands have just found a way to sell 'cars' glorified sedans and hatchbacks and call them SUVS. It definitely is not an OFF-road vehicle. That's marketing crap. You want to go off-road get a JEEP wrangler. Not this.
@@jubbalandcars That's fair. I fought with my dealer for months about the wireless charger, only to discover that it was my NIC settings on my phone. I set up a routine on my phone that when it connects to the car it automatically turns off the NIC setting and it's worked beautifully ever since. (But, of course, I need to take off the case.) Note: I hate that the old-time "radio" look of the temp control has the fan on a button, rather than the knob. I get why they did it, but I adjust the fan way more than I adjust the temp. It just feels unnatural.
Great looking car but seats in the 2024 are not comfortable at all the stitching in the middle doesn,t help either .Tried the 2025 stitching is gone but seat are still hard .So this car is not for me i am 6 feet tall 220 pounds
It needs the entire suspension overhauled. I just test drove a 2024 Turbo. It was horrible. Body Roll like hell, can’t hug a turn, weak breaks, rental car quality driving experience. Go drive an Audi and I promise you will trade in your Mazda
You'll pay at least $8K+ more, for that Audi. Everything in life is a Cost-Benefit analysis. Mazda made the Top 5 list for lowest annual maintenance (Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, Mazda, Nissan).
Wouldn’t buy a German car especially an Audi. Too expensive to purchase plus expensive maintenance & repair costs (40yrs recently retired auto tech). I know, handling & driving experience but if spending $ & low resale value is your thing… okay.
The door design sucks. They don't have grab slots (no idea what you actually call them). There are only the vertical grab bars near the hinge. Really hard to pull the doors closed or keep from dinging another car. Can't understand why any manufacturer would make doors with out those grab slots on the arm rest as every other car I've ever driven has? When I had it as a loaner while my CX-5 was being serviced, I noticed it immediately when I first went to close the door. Was a real wtf!? moment. Hate would be the correct word for the doors for me.
@@jubbalandcars most cars, at least the ones I've been in have 2 grab points. One closer to where the hinge is and the other usually a pocket designed into the arm rest area, kinda near the middle back of the door where your hand can reach and grab onto to pull the door closed. The CX-50 only has those grab handles towards the front, close to the hinge. You naturally go to grab for the slot on the arm rest and surprise it's not there. Using the grab bars so close to the hinge gives you no leverage, and it's really hard to pull close. I spent a week in a cx-50 and hated those doors. Go check one out. Look carefully at the video when they show the doors.
My gripes (same year/model) 1) Seats too firm 2) A/C keeps resetting to recirculation (why?!) 3) Hood sheet metal visibly vibrates even at low speeds. Seems too thin. 4) Overly firm suspension (Jul '23) on 20" rims (will upgrade to smaller rims) 5) Driver assist alert overly sensitive on left lane (only) and won't stay off even when changed in settings
i agree on that. Too far forward on CX50 and too far back on CX5. On the kia sportage its perfect but they have shit engines apparently. I have one but never had an issue. But hard to get right now
I got the meridian edition so smaller rims = softer ride. Here's the biggest problems I have. Need much better AC with bigger vent openings. AC is not cold and loud. Transmission should 8 speed with crisper shifts spongey as hell. Over electrified cars in general. Emergency brake should be mechanical. If I want to drive with lights off and seat belt unfastened that's my choice.
So it's not just me🥺 I hate the way this thing drives. It's like I press it to go and it takes time to catch up and it honestly has me slightly hesitant.
the plastic fenders suck. i barely brushed into it with keys in my pocket and it scuffed it up. Nothing got it off except a magic eraser and now the finish is all fucked.
None of which are anything like a big deal.

I don't need this but I want this
Test drove two times, trying to understand the philosophy and purpose of this vehicle: I found it too stiff , too uncomfortable . Also feels very heavy. But really love the design, bought the Eclipse Cross Ralliart instead, no regrets at all
The inputs are heavy but the vehicle feels light IME
I’m a huge Mitsubishi fan too ! In the past 10 years I’ve had 2 Outlander Sports and one Outlander. Over 250k miles trouble free. ZERO factory defects and excellent gas mileage of 27 city and 32 hwy with air conditioner on. My opinion is they are a bargain.
The stiffness is likely due to overinflated tires.
I think it’s insane that the number one thing they advertise is that it’s the first Mazda with a panoramic sunroof and it literally opens fully less than my 1993 Honda accord my first car when I was 16. Like what?
They actually open full depth, you have to press the button back again. There are a few positions.
Sounds like a great vehicle:)
Agreed I love mine
With respect- seems like all of these issues won't occurre if you would have gotten the base model. (Plus a savings of $11 grand.) To each his own but I'm personally considering the base model.
That weird little vent is the first thing I noticed about the interior
#1 the Vent 😢 #3 stitching 😢 # 4 your iPhone bump 😢.
Not this.
It’s a crossover relax buddy
Did somebody bet you that you couldn't use "congruent" in its various forms more than once in a video?
That’s an incongruent take
Turn off the NIC on your phone to wirelessly charge.
Nope doesn’t help
I love your pov video.. Can you do a pov without talking? 😅
Sorry not what this channel is about
So what you are saying is that the car is perfect??
Pretty much. I love this thing. Only minor minor complaints
@@jubbalandcars I'm probably buying one tomorrow
My CX-5 has aluminum door handles inside ...you sure it is plastic.
Why did he buy the car? Did he do his homework before the purchase ?
The door design sucks. They don't have grab slots (no idea what you actually call them). There are only the vertical grab bars near the hinge. Really hard to pull the doors closed or keep from dinging another car. Can't understand why any manufacturer would make doors with out those grab slots on the arm rest as every other car I've ever driven has? When I had it as a loaner while my CX-5 was being serviced, I noticed it immediately when I first went to close the door. Was a real wtf!? moment. Hate would be the correct word for the doors for me.
It has door grab handles inside the door just like any other vehicle. Not sure what you’re referring to
@@jubbalandcars most cars, at least the ones I've been in have 2 grab points.
My gripes (same year/model)
1) Seats too firm
2) A/C keeps resetting to recirculation (why?!)
3) Hood sheet metal visibly vibrates even at low speeds. Seems too thin.
4) Overly firm suspension (Jul '23) on 20" rims (will upgrade to smaller rims)
5) Driver assist alert overly sensitive on left lane (only) and won't stay off even when changed in settings
The sunroof is a joke, but it’s mostly meant for to look outside explorin
Turbo and AWD the gas mileage will always be poor IMHO
Mazda needs a v6 insted of a turbo and dont even think of putting in any cvt,s like other companys have no one wants them😊
They have an I6 now
What about the placement of the cup holders? You literally have to lean up to grab your drink and larger cups are very cumbersome.
Yeah cup holder placement pretty bad for sure
i agree on that. Too far forward on CX50 and too far back on CX5. On the kia sportage its perfect but they have shit engines apparently. I have one but never had an issue. But hard to get right now
I only made it 4 minutes in, so much nitpicking. you acknowledge it's "super minor complaints" and nit picking yet your title says "7 Things I HATE"
I jumped to the Rogue, much nicer interior.
Sport mode
Why can’t people use regular words for regular people to understand what the heck you are trying to say!
incongruous
Shoulda titled this “user error”
Toilet paper word of the day: congruence.
🫠
Ayoooop, 6” is average my boy, cmon now
the plastic fenders suck. i barely brushed into it with keys in my pocket and it scuffed it up. Nothing got it off except a magic eraser and now the finish is all fucked.
You just need dressing dude. Itll bring the plastic back to life. Not a big deal easy fix
Enough!
seems like you should have bought a Subaru.......
Oh my God, our society is doomed.......
SPOOOOOOIIIIIIILLED!!!!!!!!
iPhone 9
Plastic grab handles, just like 98% of all cars sold.
Not really
Nonsense, why did you waste time on trivia
Love the car. Only issues are minor
The instrument cluster and infotainment look dated.
It’s nice I like it
Holy shit what a reach lol. Really trying to find some issues here huh
Worst interior of any modern car. Phoned in design.
what you driving?
your a surgeon, you can well afford the price of gas!
Dropped out of plastic surgery, so not a surgeon
