Reminds me of the Ford Festiva in a major way. Growing up there were two festivas in our tiny town. My best friends mom owned one, the other belonged to my moms close friend. Indestructible and cheap as dirt. These little guys add all the toys to a festiva, and four doors too!
I just purchased a 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage ES on October 30th, 2018. It had 11 miles on it when I picked it up, and got 120 miles on it now. Averaging between 44 and 47 MPG depending on traffic with just normal driving. So for, I really like the car, It does exactly what I need it to do. Gets me to work on time, and doesn’t cost a fortune to do it like my Nissan Armada does. Great update by the way.
@@kylemas2005 I'm not sure I have manuals but if you take care of it they yes I bet you can. There are cvt cars that have well over 200k on them but the high mile ones are usually on their second cvt....but they are delivery vehicles those have a hard life.
@@kylemas2005 I'm not the original post of this comment but I have a 18' Mirage G4 I say mine is a wonderful car it has 15K+ miles on the ODOMETER and I get excellent gas mileage 50 MPG on the HGHWY and 40 MPG in City I needed to replace the air filter recently because of less gas mileage than I used to get. I drove it from Altoona PA where I live to college in Edinboro PA for college on a single tank of gas and still had 50 miles til empty brother don't doubt the reliability of them they're great know someone who has a 15' with 50K on it only thing he did with his general maintenance the oil filter oil air filters and tires brakes the damn thing still runs wonderful the CVT is what he has in his.
@@christechguy 50k miles it better still run wonderful. Hell, at 100k miles it should still run good. Im guessing you have the 5speed?. MirageForum.com has a member that already has 260k miles on his 2014 5speed. Manual is always reliable and cheap to fix. As far as CVT version, OEM CVT fluid changes every 30k miles is a must. There's multiple CVT owners with 100k plus miles and going strong. Join the forum, it has countless helpful members with much mechanical experience.
The glovebox door "chattered" on rough pavement in my 2014 Mirage as the car aged. The plastics used for the latch are too soft and wear out from use and movement friction, causing the latched position to become loose over time. I miss my 2014 Mirage ES. I planned on keeping it until the wheels fell off, but some tool rear ended me, totaling the car. For the 4yrs and 56k miles I owned it, it was such a cheap little runabout and put a smile on my face with its characterful Kiwi Green paint color with fuchsia accented black upholstery, its ability to fit into the tightest of parking situations and turn on a dime, and never averaging less than 40mpg on a tank. It did have it's fair share of first year teething problems, like a really bad engine rattle on cold startup, a defective rear axle causing alignment problems, and a weird idling problem on humid days. The massive 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty is very nice piece of mind. I didn't have any issues with paint, body integrity or electrics. It was very comfortable and dare I say roomy up front for such a tiny car. I miss the crazy soft suspension. It was great for all the driving I do on rough city streets. I took it on a few 800 mile roundtrips and found it perfectly comfortable, just too underpowered and noisy for long travel. I wanted a more substantial car to replace it, so I went with a new 2018 Hyundai Elantra. If I could afford a new Mirage hatchback as a 2nd vehicle though, I'd definitely get one.
@Mr M I'm also very perceptive of small sounds and my glovebox will make the same sound. The sound comes from there being a bit too much space where it latches, so it kinda minutely moves. I have a little piece of foam that I close in the door to keep it quiet. Works perfectly.
I've also got the 2015 mirage and I love it. Driven it on highway 227km; making 454km roundtrip on 3 occasions and I enjoyed the car honestly. What I've got since I bought the car with 64723km is do one oil change at 5000km, changed brakes and changed the tyres 185/65/R14 86H. Rides well. I hope to get the 2021 model soon.
Ha! My 2019 has a squeaky glove box too. Excellent car for day to day commuting. And frankly, it’s a joy to drive longer distances. I never feel sore or fatigued when I’ve been on the road for an hour & a half or more. Wish I could buy one to just put away.
There is a guy called Fairpoint Farms who did a entire maintenance guide on the Mirage. Hes pretty vocal in loving these cars and own two right now. He recommended greasing the doors and little parts like that so they shut up.
That is impressive mpg. I had a first generation Honda Insight and the life time mpg was 59mpg. The battery was on it's last leg when I bought it and I constantly had to grid charge it. I did hit 70mpg on one tank full but that was a lot of monitoring and work with constant focus on how I was driving. For a straight up gas only car this is very good mpg!!! AND NO BATTERY TO WORRY ABOUT!!!
I own a G4 version bought it brand new in 2016. Now it has 34k miles on it. The only thing I upgraded is the coil spring (kyb) at the rear so I can haul more stuff and not worry about going to low. I also did a CVT fluid change at 20k (drop cvt pan) as the manual says. So far so good all did is 5k oil changes. The wheel bearing can be an issue I replaced mine (rear) when it got corroded, I ran the car on light flooding which you should not do.
Bought hatchback in May . Month later totalled it in a collision that wasn't my fault . Replaced it with another one . Eventhough I wasn't at fault I was on the hook for $2000 left on loan . Buy GAP Insurance Thanks for posting car so far been great .
Even with that it shows why the cheap price is a blessing. Most cars crashed that early will leave you with at least 15-20k to pay off. I'm glad that you're well, these little things are still iffy for me safety wise.
It's a bare bones basic car but would make sense for someone doing delivery such as door dash, uber eats, etc, considering the reasonable monthly payment and the fact that the car will have a full factory warranty, while at the same time yielding great fuel economy. Could also be a good student car for high school/college students.
My 2019 hatchback I purchased this past July just turned over to 5400 miles . Took to dealer for 5000 mile oil change . For some reason it seems to perform much better since the dealer performed maintenance .
Usually some dealers do a little extra to a car you bought from them.Plus for some reason Mirages are recommended synthetic oil instead of regular..I use synthetic on mine.
Great vid, my new 2019 Mirage was 9988 at erie pa dealer manual and loaded with features. I freakin love the car. 45 mpg on average anytime anywhere. You cannt find a better small car for the money. Anything under 11k for one and youll love it for the price alone. The Mirage is great in snow as well. So run, don't walk to your mitsu dealer and beat them up and get your well deserved discount on the great Mirage.
@@athletejmv When I bought my '14 Mirage new, it was advertised at $11,900 for the upper trim ES with CVT (DE was base at the time). Out the door price was $13,300. Just to give you an idea.
I'm going to be replacing my 1995 Firefly with one of these. They are basically the same car by the looks of it, just with a couple extra more modern bells and whistles. Well at least compared to a Firefly, haha.
Yeah, they for sure have some nice updates in technology, comfort and safety over a firefly! And dont lose much if any mpg. Enjoy it! Do a review of it vs your firefly when you get one
Before I brought mine brand new here in Australia I was issued one of these cars back in Feb 2016 from Thrifty car rentals at Wellington Airport, New Zealand. I had to drive from Wellington to Whanganui via Palmerston North (Manawatu district) and return back to Palmerston North the next day. I didn't have to fill-up at all on that driving leg I was impressed by the fuel economy considering I've done that route on other standard 4 cylinder rental cars before.
this car is such a bargain for what you get. Backup camera, auto climate, push button start, heated seats, turn signal mirrors, led tailights, android auto for $18k, and you can add parking sensors for like $200. And it's a nice small, easy to park, nimble car which I love, my car is way too big. And that mpg is truly incredible, that's what I get in my 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid

A lot of critics n reviewers trash this car.But what do you expect from people who test drive BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, or any car with 150hp or more? They're gonna trash a car with anything under 100hp.
Did you noticed any sounds when driving coming from under the car regardless of the road type? Or is it normal to hear some noise coming from under because its compact?
It's pretty quiet on smooth roads for a small car but if you go over bumps you will hear them without the radio up high. It's not bad though for a small little car. The suspension is pretty soft so it soaks up bumps well.
Right mines do the same that sound annoying ! You hear the outside in the inside that sucks too …I have had mines two years I only got 17,000 miles on mines
I honestly don't understand why people say this is a bad car. Nowadays, before a car is launched to the market, there is a thorough study and design phase. Every car is thought for a certain use, and the end result is always faithful to the scoping of it's project. This is a car designed for urban use and economy, and it naturally delivers. the only problem with it is that it's not very affordable, with it's top trim costing more than some better cars.
Thats why you buy a used one like I did. $6600 for a 2014 CVT DE with 45k miles on it. Im @ 48k now, no issues. The 50k miles or less used ones are getting harder to find too. The secret is getting out after 5 years on the market.
I've driven so called better cars.A 2019 Altima, a 2015 Sentra and a 2019 Elantra.But at the end of the day all three did its purpose. To get me from point A to B.Only difference was that they were bigger cars.So I'm no way ashamed of my little Mirage.

Subsequent owners dont get the 100k mile warranty, but a 5 year 60k powertrain warranty is transferable, so youd get 10k miles of coverage. Still though, these cars are so simple under the hood, not alot goes wrong.
I have a 2014 with the 1.2 engine that has 60k miles on the clock. I get the same average milage as you when I dont drive in 'save fuel' mode. If I really drive in eco mode I will an average just shy of 65 mpg
I have a 2014 mirage and it is great. my only complaint is the brakes. it worps on me before I even hit 6 mouth and am not heave on the brakes. I do 175 miles a day round trip to work. I've put 170,000 miles on it so far and no problem at all. just the front brakes
You may be experiencing an alignment issue related to the rear axle defect. Bring it to your Mitsubishi dealership and tell them you know about the defect.

I have a 14, and it has to be moving fast enough to center. It sometimes helps to be on the gas a little bit. It won't fully center but will leave the steering wheel about 20 degrees off from center, which with the tractor-like steering ratio is very nearly straight Sometimes it still forgets and you have to unwind it manually though and this can be scary if you ARE on the gas...
@@AladdinSaneNYC I just test drove a 2019 and it doesn't line center up well when coming out of a turn. I feel like you are constantly monitory/working the steering wheel back and forth because the car has a dead spot and drifts quite a bit.
Can be solved with some rubber/foam trim like what is used to insulate around home doors and windows. They come in long strips with double stick tape. Peel off 3 or 4 strips that are about 1.5 inches long, and start with placing just two strips and opposite ends of the glove box door where the lip of the door meets with the dashboard. That will apply a little bit of pressure when you close the glove box door to prevent it from rattling. In some cases even just one piece applied in the middle will work.
My car is about the same. I have a love hate relation with my car. City driving is fine, getting to highway speed is nerve r Wracking. But once you 65/70 it’s fine. I average about the same mileage but I drive it hard.
Yes, it does great in the snow. Skinny tires cut through better than fat tires. It's also really light so it helps control any unwanted slides. But it comes with traction and stability control which work well.
I saw your video right before I bought a 2018 mirage, and loved your review. I have 10,000+ miles since late May. It is exactly what I was waiting for, simple, reliable and very capable. Love driving it, love the 5 speed

Hi, that is a scan gauge eco. It plugs into the obd2 port and gives you a lot of information. I usually keep it on instant mpg and coolant temp. No, I dont have the cvt I have the 5spd manual.
I had a 2019 model for 7 months before it decided to catch fire otw home from work and burn to the ground. I now drive a beater Toyota and the quality isn't even comparable, its a 2008 corolla and drives better than the mirage did new. I'm glad I had gap on the little pos.
Have you tried ANDROID AUTO ? I can't get it to upload on my 2019 Mirage with the base head unit . Bugs me to have the indash unit with video capabilities and the factory won't support it .
I have a 2014 mitsubishi mirage and I have just done 225,000km I have never had an issue untill now. The gearbox has just broken and I decided to now replace the engine and gearbox together and hopfully I get another 225,000km out of it.
@@pryme2013 yeah ita manual. I believe it is the synchro in first gear that has given in. It started getting stuck in first gear then it was hard to get in and out and now I cant get into first gear. On average I do 1000km a week mostly highway driving. I have replaced the transmission fluid every 50,000km and engine oil and filter every 10,000km and what ever is scheduled on the service book. I have baught a new engine and gearbox so once they get here I will swap it out then i will take apart my broken gearbox and find what went wrong.
No it's just a light that lights up when you're coasting or lightly on the gas. It goes off when you accelerate hard. It's a reminder to drive with a light foot which helps mileage.
It's a little car that you can thrash (within reason and after the initial break-in period, 3000-10,000 miles depending on conditions) and still get good economy. I'll be driving mine on the interstate from Greer, SC to Tampa, FL in the coming week to go get stuff done at a friend's house, and then back up to West Tennessee to get things from a storage unit in Paris, TN to take to my sister's in Thomson, GA and then its back to Greer, SC to get back on the road making money. This is the type of work my good ol' S-Class has been doing the last 4 years and about 100k miles. It'll be interesting to see how the little Mirage fairs holding 70-80 mph for hours, and in this case, probably days at a time. Usually, when I'm off the road, my cars stay running until I'm finished with everything I need to do and they go back to their parking spots at the terminal. They get run just like my semi. The little bastard is definitely going to get broken in. It has 1,126 miles on it currently, and I'm taking Mitsubishi up on that free maintainence. 5yrs 60k miles. I'm getting my money's worth dammit!!
I agree. Lil car does fine on the hwy. Merging is no problem. Ride comfort for long trips is so so though. Definitely want cruise control and a center armrest console.
@@kylemas2005 CVT transmissions got a bad reputation because here in America, we're too impatient to stop the car fully before changing from reverse to drive and Visa versa..... I've heard that the CVT in these cars is actually built to handle at least 150 HP... with proper care and timely maintenance and not beating it to death trying to outright destroy it, it should last well over 150k miles. Only time will tell. The car when new has a 10 year 100k mile powertrain warranty. Just take good care of the car, and it will last.
2017 SE. They dropped the manual in the higher end trims for 2018....which is dumb imo. I'm glad I got them when they had them If I was buying now, I'd still get the manual with less options though, id never get the cvt
@@pryme2013 We have a 15 ES CVT and love it. I wanted a manual but we bought one used and settled. I don't regret it though. Plenty of pep and still gets 40+ mpg. About to hit 60k and no issues. Also tachs around 3k at 80 mph which is awesome.
I own a 2017 mirage G4 5 speed standard, great commuter car, I average 33-36 miles at a gallon but that beed said, I drive it like I stole it, I dont baby it on the highway. I decided to get the 5 speed manual, I have to take the highway everyday for work and I found that the CVT version is very slow on take off and the 5 speed manual has better acceleration, specially whem merging on the highway. I also put a set of snow tires on it and it drives like a top, my only issue is the sound system and body roll specially on windy days, but you learn how to adjust to it and you have no problem at all, great commuter car, solid vehicle for day to day commute. If you are looking for performance and fancy gadgets, then this is not the car for you.
How do you find the noise level? I drove a nissan micra and downloaded the decibel app when i drove it just to test, came to 71db @ 65mph, have you ever tested the cabin noise @ speed?
I'm not sure about that I've never tried. Its certainly not the quietest car due to wind noise at freeway speeds but it's not bad, I might have to dl an app and test it! If its windy out its louder than if its calm, that I know.

Sitting in the car in a semi busy parking lot engine off: 34db avg, same parking lot idling: 43db avg, driving at 40mph: 63.5db avg, driving at 65mph: 72.8db. Now keep in mind the roads here in the midwest suck really bad. I want to try on a smooth road when I get a chance
Hi, it has a cvt automatic available in all trims. The manual is only available now in base trim. It used to be available in all trims except the gt until 2017
We have to and love them. Just cleaned them top to bottom for spring. A few light scratches I jve to buff out from winter but still going strong. The paint seems a bit thin but that's to be expected on a cheap car. Very reliable though!

Yes, it does well. It has such skinny tires it cuts through. It is also a very light car so it doesnt slide as far, if you happen to be on a patch of ice, as a heavy car tends to. It also has traction and stability control. Higher end features on such an inexpensive car.
@@ChummyChime not many hills in my area but yeah it enters the highway/freeway fine. I never have to floor it and I've never even had it close to redline and I get around fine.
@@ChummyChime I don't recommend the Mirage if you do a lot of interstate driving. The engine just doesn't have enough power. I never used the cruise control because the engine could never maintain speed on the slightest of hills, and I live in Florida.

@@pryme2013 Good to know. Was this the out the door cost? I'm looking at purchasing a 2019 G4 base model with CVT and was given $14,700 out the door (that's with a trade... no negative equity). The price seems way too highway. I live in Central Florida.
Mirage. Yaris doesn't get anywhere near the gas mileage and doesnt come close to the level of features. Mirage also is way less expensive and has a much better warranty.
I almost bought a manual SE but my sales guy was really shady. Kinda sad it didn’t work out. It sat so long that when I cane to test drive, the battery was Dead. Jumping didn’t help, lights pulsing when I drove it. I told him I’m ready to buy it at agreed price and we text messaged a few days while I waited for the info it was ready to go. Then, he increases the price a grand! I said Hell No. he wanted me to buy it without working correctly, too! Anyways, I bought a 30k mile 2015 XB for a mere $10,500, or what I originally agreed to buy that new Mirage for. Hard to beat. 2 kids in car seats, it’s pretty great for space. it’s a manual, too.. only thing I’ll Drive short of if I bought an EV. Get high 30’s at 60 mph, sometimes little better. But I drive really Chill. The 2.4 Camry engine has lots of power when I need it. Since I Drive 2500-3000 miles a year.. I’m not sure how much advantage better MPG would have? Might save a hundred bucks? Not sure. Anyway I still love these cars. How’s City MPG? The Scion is about 28-32 mpg average if I’m light on throttle shift low RPM. I imagine the Mirage would be 35-42 mpg City?

Jealous of the ratio spread on cvt. The manual gearing is way too short. I get 30s driving between 35 and 75 in cold weather for most of my commute. 75 is 3750rpm in 5th gear...
@@pryme2013 i love how people say its so slow and cheap its junk Ok my 91 geo had 55 hp manual windows and locks no power steering. But is did have AC AND IT WORKED! So the mitsu is quicker then the geo and has nice features also i drive in the city and this i think would be the perfect car for me
Question, if this car so bad why is it still around? Why do Mirage lovers love it?Because its a excellent inexpensive simple A to B gas saving car.No it isn't fast or flashy but it does its job as a car should Get you back n forth to your destination. You want fast or flashy this cars not for you.
If doors and acceleration are your thing, not really. But they are fun to drive if your expectations are a great tiny go cart like car that’s awesome to run through the gears and navigate through small streets easily. And getting 50mpg

So I've asked at the forums what do they think, and while they all say it's reliable and fuel efficient - they say it's the only 2 good things about it. I never drove this car, so I can't say. @@pryme2013I had the G4 manual then upgraded to G4 CVT. The manual is 3 seconds faster. I personally love both hence the difference is day and night. Too bad G4 SE manual cannot be had in the state. In Mexico they do oddly enough…at the expense of cruise control being removed. Mitsubishi Motors is soo weird on trim offerings
Yes he reviewed a 14/15 style mirage. It was fully updated in 17. He also tested a cvt equipped car and the manual is the only way to go with this car imo. Those two things make it a night and day difference. Not to mention that guy reviews mainly ultra expensive vehicles and is jaded. He also says a lot of what he says for views and comments. Pretty transparent schtick he has, but effective.
@@pryme2013 Plus, the 18 fixes any potential nags with the 17 models, too. I find that there's more room and it drives sliiightly better, overall. I'm a big 200cm+ guy, so any extra room the 18 has over the 17 was a huge plus.
@@NightKawata I'm not aware of any differences like that between the 17 and 18. I would have seen as I read the Mirage forum and it would have been brought up. There was however a lot of changes from the 14/15 to the 17+

It does better in the mirage from what I've heard. It's the same one as in the versa I think but the mirage has less weight and power so it does better.
@@pryme2013 Thank you for the reply. I was just wondering, when I use to turn wrenches. I replaced 4 or 5 CVT transmissions from Altima's and Maxima's. They normally went out with only 95k-120k miles. But I couldn't find much about the Jatco CVT7 transmission. I personally like the Mirage, it reminds me sooo much of the older Geo metro, just more modern.
Ginja Man cvt transmission needs care like change cvt fluid every 80k kilometers. Change also the filter of cvt. Other that that cvt transmission was very good.

@@sobbingsop692 It simply isnt known for unreliability though. I get its easy to be sarcastic about a 3cylinder, trust me I own one. But old Mitsubushis are a common sight in the big city I live in and they sold alot less cars than Honda and Toyotas, I think that speaks volumes. If you check out Mirageforum.com, its full of owners and delivery fleet mechanics praising the reliability. Now if your referring to the Mitsus getting junky looking quicker than say a Honda, your totally correct. But the engines are sound, and the CVT7 isnt taxed that much considering the Mirage only weighs 2000lbs and produces low torque/hp meaning more longevity. I think your correct however in estimating 5 years as the longest one should drive uber in this vehicle. Cheers.
Very dangerous with no power how to you build a car with 78 hp at least 130 hp and it’s still not enough. Sorry not for me .I wanted to buy one but with this little horse power I am not taking changes .but a nice looking car 👍
Really low miles, so not surprising it doesn't many problems yet. Not sure these cars can hold up to high miles though. There is a video that says this is "Worst New Car You Can Buy."
There are a handful already between 220-250k miles running delivery service. No real issues at all with the manual transmission models. The cvt has had some issues up over 175k miles. Overall extremely reliable cheap cars. Very satisfied
Yeah TH-camr Doug wrote that he's a moron I have a 18' with over 15K+ on the odometer I wasn't going to buy the car originally because of his review but it's a load of crap buy it you won't regret it.

I actually hate this car. I bought it September 27, 2018. The power locks are failing already. And it happens randomly. Everything will be fine and one day I'll get out of the car and the key fob wont lock the doors and the battery isnt low. When the car is off and I press the door lock button on the driver side the doors will lock and immediately unlock. So the car alarm wont work and i have to lock the driver side door with the key and manually lock all the other doors. The touch screen doesnt really do anything special other than show the camera in the back when backing up. I thought that screen would display the song names thats played on the radio but it only displays the radio channel. It doesnt display google maps while driving. The apple and android car app on the radio doesnt do anything special either. Thats just my review of it
That does sound frustrating. Bring it to the dealer for warranty repair. Google maps does show on the display if your phone is plugged into the USB cable in the glovebox.
Tbh, I don't have a mirage yet, but I could do without the screen as well. Also if that's the only method of changing the radio, you'll be screwed if the screen goes out. Did on my dad's truck, radio is now useless.

I just purchased a 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage ES on October 30th, 2018. It had 11 miles on it when I picked it up, and got 120 miles on it now. Averaging between 44 and 47 MPG depending on traffic with just normal driving. So for, I really like the car, It does exactly what I need it to do. Gets me to work on time, and doesn’t cost a fortune to do it like my Nissan Armada does. Great update by the way.

@@kylemas2005 I'm not sure I have manuals but if you take care of it they yes I bet you can. There are cvt cars that have well over 200k on them but the high mile ones are usually on their second cvt....but they are delivery vehicles those have a hard life.
I have 100k on my 15 and it has given me 0 problems. Very reliable and nimble in the snow.

@@kylemas2005 I'm not the original post of this comment but I have a 18' Mirage G4 I say mine is a wonderful car it has 15K+ miles on the ODOMETER and I get excellent gas mileage 50 MPG on the HGHWY and 40 MPG in City I needed to replace the air filter recently because of less gas mileage than I used to get. I drove it from Altoona PA where I live to college in Edinboro PA for college on a single tank of gas and still had 50 miles til empty brother don't doubt the reliability of them they're great know someone who has a 15' with 50K on it only thing he did with his general maintenance the oil filter oil air filters and tires brakes the damn thing still runs wonderful the CVT is what he has in his.

MirageForum.com has a member that already has 260k miles on his 2014 5speed. Manual is always reliable and cheap to fix. As far as CVT version, OEM CVT fluid changes every 30k miles is a must. There's multiple CVT owners with 100k plus miles and going strong. Join the forum, it has countless helpful members with much mechanical experience.

The glovebox door "chattered" on rough pavement in my 2014 Mirage as the car aged. The plastics used for the latch are too soft and wear out from use and movement friction, causing the latched position to become loose over time.
I miss my 2014 Mirage ES. I planned on keeping it until the wheels fell off, but some tool rear ended me, totaling the car. For the 4yrs and 56k miles I owned it, it was such a cheap little runabout and put a smile on my face with its characterful Kiwi Green paint color with fuchsia accented black upholstery, its ability to fit into the tightest of parking situations and turn on a dime, and never averaging less than 40mpg on a tank. It did have it's fair share of first year teething problems, like a really bad engine rattle on cold startup, a defective rear axle causing alignment problems, and a weird idling problem on humid days. The massive 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty is very nice piece of mind. I didn't have any issues with paint, body integrity or electrics. It was very comfortable and dare I say roomy up front for such a tiny car. I miss the crazy soft suspension. It was great for all the driving I do on rough city streets. I took it on a few 800 mile roundtrips and found it perfectly comfortable, just too underpowered and noisy for long travel. I wanted a more substantial car to replace it, so I went with a new 2018 Hyundai Elantra. If I could afford a new Mirage hatchback as a 2nd vehicle though, I'd definitely get one.

I'm also very perceptive of small sounds and my glovebox will make the same sound. The sound comes from there being a bit too much space where it latches, so it kinda minutely moves. I have a little piece of foam that I close in the door to keep it quiet. Works perfectly.

I've also got the 2015 mirage and I love it. Driven it on highway 227km; making 454km roundtrip on 3 occasions and I enjoyed the car honestly. What I've got since I bought the car with 64723km is do one oil change at 5000km, changed brakes and changed the tyres 185/65/R14 86H. Rides well. I hope to get the 2021 model soon.

Ha! My 2019 has a squeaky glove box too. Excellent car for day to day commuting. And frankly, it’s a joy to drive longer distances. I never feel sore or fatigued when I’ve been on the road for an hour & a half or more. Wish I could buy one to just put away.
They pretty much all do that. I would keep the glove box open sometimes just to not hear it
There is a guy called Fairpoint Farms who did a entire maintenance guide on the Mirage. Hes pretty vocal in loving these cars and own two right now. He recommended greasing the doors and little parts like that so they shut up.
That is impressive mpg. I had a first generation Honda Insight and the life time mpg was 59mpg. The battery was on it's last leg when I bought it and I constantly had to grid charge it. I did hit 70mpg on one tank full but that was a lot of monitoring and work with constant focus on how I was driving. For a straight up gas only car this is very good mpg!!! AND NO BATTERY TO WORRY ABOUT!!!

This is definitely going to be my first car. Definitely has an outstanding fuel efficiency for a cheap car.
I own a G4 version bought it brand new in 2016. Now it has 34k miles on it. The only thing I upgraded is the coil spring (kyb) at the rear so I can haul more stuff and not worry about going to low.
I also did a CVT fluid change at 20k (drop cvt pan) as the manual says. So far so good all did is 5k oil changes.
The wheel bearing can be an issue I replaced mine (rear) when it got corroded, I ran the car on light flooding which you should not do.
Excellent update on your Mirage. I want one really bad for my replacement car to a Smart car.

@@scowler92 it's a 9gal tank and I usually only end up putting 7gal tops in it when I fill it up. Makes for very quick gas station stops.

Bought hatchback in May . Month later totalled it in a collision that wasn't my fault . Replaced it with another one . Eventhough I wasn't at fault I was on the hook for $2000 left on loan . Buy GAP Insurance

Even with that it shows why the cheap price is a blessing. Most cars crashed that early will leave you with at least 15-20k to pay off. I'm glad that you're well, these little things are still iffy for me safety wise.
It's a bare bones basic car but would make sense for someone doing delivery such as door dash, uber eats, etc, considering the reasonable monthly payment and the fact that the car will have a full factory warranty, while at the same time yielding great fuel economy. Could also be a good student car for high school/college students.

My 2019 hatchback I purchased this past July just turned over to 5400 miles . Took to dealer for 5000 mile oil change .
For some reason it seems to perform much better since the dealer performed maintenance .
Usually some dealers do a little extra to a car you bought from them.Plus for some reason Mirages are recommended synthetic oil instead of regular..I use synthetic on mine.
For a small compact car these cars are great.
Great vid, my new 2019 Mirage was 9988 at erie pa dealer manual and loaded with features. I freakin love the car. 45 mpg on average anytime anywhere. You cannt find a better small car for the money. Anything under 11k for one and youll love it for the price alone. The Mirage is great in snow as well. So run, don't walk to your mitsu dealer and beat them up and get your well deserved discount on the great Mirage.

I'm going to be replacing my 1995 Firefly with one of these. They are basically the same car by the looks of it, just with a couple extra more modern bells and whistles. Well at least compared to a Firefly, haha.

Before I brought mine brand new here in Australia I was issued one of these cars back in Feb 2016 from Thrifty car rentals at Wellington Airport, New Zealand. I had to drive from Wellington to Whanganui via Palmerston North (Manawatu district) and return back to Palmerston North the next day. I didn't have to fill-up at all on that driving leg I was impressed by the fuel economy considering I've done that route on other standard 4 cylinder rental cars before.
this car is such a bargain for what you get. Backup camera, auto climate, push button start, heated seats, turn signal mirrors, led tailights, android auto for $18k, and you can add parking sensors for like $200. And it's a nice small, easy to park, nimble car which I love, my car is way too big. And that mpg is truly incredible, that's what I get in my 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid
They can be had for far less than 18k too. I have all those features except no heated seats and both were 21k and change....COMBINED.

Did you noticed any sounds when driving coming from under the car regardless of the road type? Or is it normal to hear some noise coming from under because its compact?
It's pretty quiet on smooth roads for a small car but if you go over bumps you will hear them without the radio up high. It's not bad though for a small little car. The suspension is pretty soft so it soaks up bumps well.
Right mines do the same that sound annoying ! You hear the outside in the inside that sucks too …I have had mines two years I only got 17,000 miles on mines

I honestly don't understand why people say this is a bad car. Nowadays, before a car is launched to the market, there is a thorough study and design phase. Every car is thought for a certain use, and the end result is always faithful to the scoping of it's project. This is a car designed for urban use and economy, and it naturally delivers. the only problem with it is that it's not very affordable, with it's top trim costing more than some better cars.
Thats why you buy a used one like I did. $6600 for a 2014 CVT DE with 45k miles on it. Im @ 48k now, no issues. The 50k miles or less used ones are getting harder to find too. The secret is getting out after 5 years on the market.
I've driven so called better cars.A 2019 Altima, a 2015 Sentra and a 2019 Elantra.But at the end of the day all three did its purpose. To get me from point A to B.Only difference was that they were bigger cars.So I'm no way ashamed of my little Mirage.

Subsequent owners dont get the 100k mile warranty, but a 5 year 60k powertrain warranty is transferable, so youd get 10k miles of coverage. Still though, these cars are so simple under the hood, not alot goes wrong.
I'd love to test out a Prius.The earlier ones though are butt ugly but the newer ones are sweet.

I have a 2014 with the 1.2 engine that has 60k miles on the clock. I get the same average milage as you when I dont drive in 'save fuel' mode. If I really drive in eco mode I will an average just shy of 65 mpg

I have a 2014 mirage and it is great. my only complaint is the brakes. it worps on me before I even hit 6 mouth and am not heave on the brakes. I do 175 miles a day round trip to work. I've put 170,000 miles on it so far and no problem at all. just the front brakes

You might want to bring it in for an alignment. It's not normal.
You may be experiencing an alignment issue related to the rear axle defect. Bring it to your Mitsubishi dealership and tell them you know about the defect.

I have a 14, and it has to be moving fast enough to center. It sometimes helps to be on the gas a little bit. It won't fully center but will leave the steering wheel about 20 degrees off from center, which with the tractor-like steering ratio is very nearly straight Sometimes it still forgets and you have to unwind it manually though and this can be scary if you ARE on the gas...
@@AladdinSaneNYC I just test drove a 2019 and it doesn't line center up well when coming out of a turn. I feel like you are constantly monitory/working the steering wheel back and forth because the car has a dead spot and drifts quite a bit.
I have a '17 mirage GT and the damn glove box is my only issue, it "creaks/squeaks" all the time!

Can be solved with some rubber/foam trim like what is used to insulate around home doors and windows. They come in long strips with double stick tape. Peel off 3 or 4 strips that are about 1.5 inches long, and start with placing just two strips and opposite ends of the glove box door where the lip of the door meets with the dashboard. That will apply a little bit of pressure when you close the glove box door to prevent it from rattling. In some cases even just one piece applied in the middle will work.
You can easily fix that with some element like rubberizing in.

Yes, it does great in the snow. Skinny tires cut through better than fat tires. It's also really light so it helps control any unwanted slides. But it comes with traction and stability control which work well.

Hi, that is a scan gauge eco. It plugs into the obd2 port and gives you a lot of information. I usually keep it on instant mpg and coolant temp. No, I dont have the cvt I have the 5spd manual.

I had a 2019 model for 7 months before it decided to catch fire otw home from work and burn to the ground. I now drive a beater Toyota and the quality isn't even comparable, its a 2008 corolla and drives better than the mirage did new. I'm glad I had gap on the little pos.

I have a 2014 mitsubishi mirage and I have just done 225,000km I have never had an issue untill now. The gearbox has just broken and I decided to now replace the engine and gearbox together and hopfully I get another 225,000km out of it.
Your manual transmission broke? Did you ever change the fluid? How are your driving habits? Never heard of one going out ever.
@@pryme2013 yeah ita manual. I believe it is the synchro in first gear that has given in. It started getting stuck in first gear then it was hard to get in and out and now I cant get into first gear. On average I do 1000km a week mostly highway driving. I have replaced the transmission fluid every 50,000km and engine oil and filter every 10,000km and what ever is scheduled on the service book. I have baught a new engine and gearbox so once they get here I will swap it out then i will take apart my broken gearbox and find what went wrong.

No it's just a light that lights up when you're coasting or lightly on the gas. It goes off when you accelerate hard. It's a reminder to drive with a light foot which helps mileage.

If it's really windy it blows the mirage all over unless you keep a close eye and hand on that wheel lol. Rain no issues.

I was flying up an down I-4 in Tampa this week in mine, between 75-90 mph keeping up with the flow of traffic, and still got 42.6 mpg...
It's a little car that you can thrash (within reason and after the initial break-in period, 3000-10,000 miles depending on conditions) and still get good economy. I'll be driving mine on the interstate from Greer, SC to Tampa, FL in the coming week to go get stuff done at a friend's house, and then back up to West Tennessee to get things from a storage unit in Paris, TN to take to my sister's in Thomson, GA and then its back to Greer, SC to get back on the road making money. This is the type of work my good ol' S-Class has been doing the last 4 years and about 100k miles. It'll be interesting to see how the little Mirage fairs holding 70-80 mph for hours, and in this case, probably days at a time. Usually, when I'm off the road, my cars stay running until I'm finished with everything I need to do and they go back to their parking spots at the terminal. They get run just like my semi. The little bastard is definitely going to get broken in. It has 1,126 miles on it currently, and I'm taking Mitsubishi up on that free maintainence. 5yrs 60k miles. I'm getting my money's worth dammit!!

I agree. Lil car does fine on the hwy. Merging is no problem. Ride comfort for long trips is so so though. Definitely want cruise control and a center armrest console.

@@kylemas2005 CVT transmissions got a bad reputation because here in America, we're too impatient to stop the car fully before changing from reverse to drive and Visa versa..... I've heard that the CVT in these cars is actually built to handle at least 150 HP... with proper care and timely maintenance and not beating it to death trying to outright destroy it, it should last well over 150k miles. Only time will tell. The car when new has a 10 year 100k mile powertrain warranty. Just take good care of the car, and it will last.

2017 SE. They dropped the manual in the higher end trims for 2018....which is dumb imo. I'm glad I got them when they had them
If I was buying now, I'd still get the manual with less options though, id never get the cvt

@@pryme2013 We have a 15 ES CVT and love it. I wanted a manual but we bought one used and settled. I don't regret it though. Plenty of pep and still gets 40+ mpg. About to hit 60k and no issues. Also tachs around 3k at 80 mph which is awesome.
My mirage 2014 have 88,000 and run perfect don't issue

I own a 2017 mirage G4 5 speed standard, great commuter car, I average 33-36 miles at a gallon but that beed said, I drive it like I stole it, I dont baby it on the highway. I decided to get the 5 speed manual, I have to take the highway everyday for work and I found that the CVT version is very slow on take off and the 5 speed manual has better acceleration, specially whem merging on the highway. I also put a set of snow tires on it and it drives like a top, my only issue is the sound system and body roll specially on windy days, but you learn how to adjust to it and you have no problem at all, great commuter car, solid vehicle for day to day commute. If you are looking for performance and fancy gadgets, then this is not the car for you.
Some 1" to 1.5" wheel spacers all around might help with the body lean.
Yes the Mirage isn't no wimpy car I drive mine like I would drive any other car.I named mine lil Nicky cause she's a beast.
How do you find the noise level? I drove a nissan micra and downloaded the decibel app when i drove it just to test, came to 71db @ 65mph, have you ever tested the cabin noise @ speed?
I'm not sure about that I've never tried. Its certainly not the quietest car due to wind noise at freeway speeds but it's not bad, I might have to dl an app and test it! If its windy out its louder than if its calm, that I know.

@@mrpdmasta so I downloaded a DB meter and took some readings! Sitting in the car in a semi busy parking lot engine off: 34db avg, same parking lot idling: 43db avg, driving at 40mph: 63.5db avg, driving at 65mph: 72.8db.
Now keep in mind the roads here in the midwest suck really bad. I want to try on a smooth road when I get a chance

Hi, it has a cvt automatic available in all trims. The manual is only available now in base trim. It used to be available in all trims except the gt until 2017

We have to and love them. Just cleaned them top to bottom for spring. A few light scratches I jve to buff out from winter but still going strong. The paint seems a bit thin but that's to be expected on a cheap car. Very reliable though!

Yes, it does well. It has such skinny tires it cuts through. It is also a very light car so it doesnt slide as far, if you happen to be on a patch of ice, as a heavy car tends to. It also has traction and stability control. Higher end features on such an inexpensive car.

@@ChummyChime not many hills in my area but yeah it enters the highway/freeway fine. I never have to floor it and I've never even had it close to redline and I get around fine.
@@ChummyChime I don't recommend the Mirage if you do a lot of interstate driving. The engine just doesn't have enough power. I never used the cruise control because the engine could never maintain speed on the slightest of hills, and I live in Florida.

Mirage. Yaris doesn't get anywhere near the gas mileage and doesnt come close to the level of features. Mirage also is way less expensive and has a much better warranty.
Even though I have a Mirage that I love, the Yaris is nice also.
I almost bought a manual SE but my sales guy was really shady. Kinda sad it didn’t work out. It sat so long that when I cane to test drive, the battery was Dead. Jumping didn’t help, lights pulsing when I drove it. I told him I’m ready to buy it at agreed price and we text messaged a few days while I waited for the info it was ready to go.
Then, he increases the price a grand! I said Hell No. he wanted me to buy it without working correctly, too!
Anyways, I bought a 30k mile 2015 XB for a mere $10,500, or what I originally agreed to buy that new Mirage for. Hard to beat. 2 kids in car seats, it’s pretty great for space. it’s a manual, too.. only thing I’ll Drive short of if I bought an EV. Get high 30’s at 60 mph, sometimes little better. But I drive really Chill.
The 2.4 Camry engine has lots of power when I need it. Since I Drive 2500-3000 miles a year.. I’m not sure how much advantage better MPG would have? Might save a hundred bucks? Not sure.
Anyway I still love these cars.
How’s City MPG? The Scion is about 28-32 mpg average if I’m light on throttle shift low RPM. I imagine the Mirage would be 35-42 mpg City?
Enjoy your new car. Those are good cars. City mileage is always over 40 for me even in winter. It's over 50 pretty easy in summer.

Is the manual transmission a little rough???
It's a hair rough when cold in winter but when warmed up or during the summer it's not at all. It's a bit notchy when cold in the winter.

Jealous of the ratio spread on cvt. The manual gearing is way too short. I get 30s driving between 35 and 75 in cold weather for most of my commute. 75 is 3750rpm in 5th gear...
On cruise at 65 I get about 40
I dont have a CVT either, both are manuals. I'd love the freeway rpm in the cvt though.

Ok my 91 geo had 55 hp manual windows and locks no power steering. But is did have AC AND IT WORKED! So the mitsu is quicker then the geo and has nice features also i drive in the city and this i think would be the perfect car for me

@@pryme2013 I thought about buying an automatic one, it looks good in both outside and inside imo, it's very reliable and got very low fuel consumption.
So I've asked at the forums what do they think, and while they all say it's reliable and fuel efficient - they say it's the only 2 good things about it.
I never drove this car, so I can't say.

@@pryme2013I had the G4 manual then upgraded to G4 CVT. The manual is 3 seconds faster.
I personally love both hence the difference is day and night. Too bad G4 SE manual cannot be had in the state. In Mexico they do oddly enough…at the expense of cruise control being removed. Mitsubishi Motors is soo weird on trim offerings

Yes he reviewed a 14/15 style mirage. It was fully updated in 17. He also tested a cvt equipped car and the manual is the only way to go with this car imo. Those two things make it a night and day difference. Not to mention that guy reviews mainly ultra expensive vehicles and is jaded. He also says a lot of what he says for views and comments. Pretty transparent schtick he has, but effective.
@@pryme2013 Plus, the 18 fixes any potential nags with the 17 models, too. I find that there's more room and it drives sliiightly better, overall. I'm a big 200cm+ guy, so any extra room the 18 has over the 17 was a huge plus.
@@NightKawata I'm not aware of any differences like that between the 17 and 18. I would have seen as I read the Mirage forum and it would have been brought up. There was however a lot of changes from the 14/15 to the 17+

Does anyone know by chance how reliable the cvt is in the mirage. Didn't know if they were as bad as Nissan's and Dodge's Cvt's.
It does better in the mirage from what I've heard. It's the same one as in the versa I think but the mirage has less weight and power so it does better.
@@pryme2013 Thank you for the reply. I was just wondering, when I use to turn wrenches. I replaced 4 or 5 CVT transmissions from Altima's and Maxima's. They normally went out with only 95k-120k miles. But I couldn't find much about the Jatco CVT7 transmission. I personally like the Mirage, it reminds me sooo much of the older Geo metro, just more modern.
Ginja Man cvt transmission needs care like change cvt fluid every 80k kilometers. Change also the filter of cvt. Other that that cvt transmission was very good.
Typical CVT7 Mirage owners get well over 100k miles. And if it does crap out just source out a low mile used one from a salavage yard for $500.
Mirages used for fleet use are seeing around 180k miles before the CVTs fail. I think that's pretty darn excellent.

@@sobbingsop692 It simply isnt known for unreliability though. I get its easy to be sarcastic about a 3cylinder, trust me I own one. But old Mitsubushis are a common sight in the big city I live in and they sold alot less cars than Honda and Toyotas, I think that speaks volumes. If you check out Mirageforum.com, its full of owners and delivery fleet mechanics praising the reliability. Now if your referring to the Mitsus getting junky looking quicker than say a Honda, your totally correct. But the engines are sound, and the CVT7 isnt taxed that much considering the Mirage only weighs 2000lbs and produces low torque/hp meaning more longevity. I think your correct however in estimating 5 years as the longest one should drive uber in this vehicle. Cheers.
Very dangerous with no power how to you build a car with 78 hp at least 130 hp and it’s still not enough. Sorry not for me .I wanted to buy one but with this little horse power I am not taking changes .but a nice looking car 👍
No issues with the low power. Gets up to freeway speeds just fine. Not blazing fast but that's okay.
Really low miles, so not surprising it doesn't many problems yet.
Not sure these cars can hold up to high miles though.

There are a handful already between 220-250k miles running delivery service. No real issues at all with the manual transmission models. The cvt has had some issues up over 175k miles. Overall extremely reliable cheap cars. Very satisfied
Yeah TH-camr Doug wrote that he's a moron I have a 18' with over 15K+ on the odometer I wasn't going to buy the car originally because of his review but it's a load of crap buy it you won't regret it.
Change the CVT fluid every 80k kilometers and the filter CVT. It will forever run. My altima 15years still running smoothly. Damn

I actually hate this car. I bought it September 27, 2018. The power locks are failing already. And it happens randomly. Everything will be fine and one day I'll get out of the car and the key fob wont lock the doors and the battery isnt low. When the car is off and I press the door lock button on the driver side the doors will lock and immediately unlock. So the car alarm wont work and i have to lock the driver side door with the key and manually lock all the other doors. The touch screen doesnt really do anything special other than show the camera in the back when backing up. I thought that screen would display the song names thats played on the radio but it only displays the radio channel. It doesnt display google maps while driving. The apple and android car app on the radio doesnt do anything special either. Thats just my review of it
That does sound frustrating. Bring it to the dealer for warranty repair. Google maps does show on the display if your phone is plugged into the USB cable in the glovebox.
Take it in and get it fixed Thats what your warranty is for.

Tbh, I don't have a mirage yet, but I could do without the screen as well. Also if that's the only method of changing the radio, you'll be screwed if the screen goes out. Did on my dad's truck, radio is now useless.
