  • Season 2019, Episode 9. I have to come clean on something that I've been hiding for years. It's not easy to talk about - especially with my car friends. But I need to get it off my chest so I'm sharing this shameful and embarrassing secret with you today.
I make a special announcement of what I plan to do with my shamefully embarrassing car tomorrow which will debut in my next video. You will definitely want to see that!
Next, I take my shameful and embarrassing secret car out for what may possibly be the slowest 0 to 60 acceleration test on all of TH-cam.
Finally, I show you my new dual camera GoPro setup and take it for a road test.
I hope you enjoy this video, give it the thumbs up, and please subscribe if you haven't already so you won't miss my future car content.
Make sure you watch me autocross the Mirage in this next video: • Autocrossing the Mirag...

WoW. I expected to be like "OK, well acceleration isn't the MOST important thing, maybe just a momentum car", but damn that was like watching grass grow, can it even keep up with traffic or do HWY speeds?
Definitely a good car for scooting around town but I didn't expect it to be so slow.

    • @EvolutionAutocrosser
      @EvolutionAutocrosser  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Oh it's super slow. So slow my wife, who is not even in to cars, calls it a gutless wonder. It actually can do 90 MPH. I know first hand. It just takes a really long time to get up there. It's the ultimate momentum car. When merging in to moving traffic, you really have to wait for a bit opening. By the way, what ever happened to your Exocet?

@@EvolutionAutocrosser lol, your description of driving that thing sounds like driving a 125cc motorcycle around.
The exocet is in my garage practicing its dust collection skills! My friend & co-owner moved away and I lost some motivation then the CHP office refused to do the VIN inspection (where they affix a new VIN, accept receipts for parts, etc.) because of how unfinished it was & the brake/light inspection office told me some things i need to fix, and the few morsels of motivation I had left went out the window :(. I'm really hoping to get cranking on it by EOY, it's ridiculous how untouched its been, hasn't really been touched in like 2 years+ now, pathetic. I made sure it still runs earlier this year, though. I'm not ready to give up just yet!

@@MrSlowestD16 I completely understand. I took a 5-year break from autocrossing my Evo. It pretty much just sat for years. I just got it back out and am active again with it this year. You mentioned CHP - are you in California? Also, if you're not able to get it street legal you could at least finish it and trailer it to autocrosses and track events.

It really has no trouble keeping up, even with a 150 lb suit case and 4 big burly truck drivers in it. It'll hold 100 mph on I-40 (in Tennessee, the highways, even interstates are pretty hilly) without much trouble. It's working hard, but it'll do it all day long with the pedal half way down. Hold it to the floor and it taps out at about 117 mph. Mines a stick, so it's more or less limited by the 4.08:1 differential. 100 mph is 5000 rpm. 117 mph, it sits at about 6200 rpm. Redline is at 6500 rpm. And that little motor is very happy to do it for as long as you care to.

There's a trend with the Mirage: reviewers tend to hate them, owners tend to like them. They are super efficient, low cost, reliable cars. If that's what you're looking for, they'll be great cars. If you are looking for a status symbol you can race, you'll be disappointed.

The Mirage is an excellent vehicle. There’s no shame in it. I love mine & I’m looking forward to it being my daily driver. I haven’t sold my 2002 Echo yet with 317k on it. I’d planned on driving it to 400k but, I told the Mrs I’d go down to one vehicle. So, now it’s going to be the Mirage’s turn. Any car that will do that is worth it’s weight in gold. I can’t say that for the costly unreliability of my old Volvo V70. What a pile. Bullet proof reliability & durability are all that matter. Not heated leather seats, wood grain inserts & a turbo. Did I mention it was a pile? 😂

Start both cameras then do a countdown visually and audibly. Then you can take the two clips and line them up off of that and make your edits keeping both clips together.

Awesome! i have a Mitsubishi Mirage, i have been driving with bigger tires on it 185/70 R14 Falken. Changing the correct tires size will void the warenty on the car. I thnk the 1980s geo metro getting 55 miles per gallon is true. I think that cars can get better miles per gallon and people don't need trucks and SUVs as much as they think, not that many off road times gonna happen. A 4 cylinder is gonna be pretty strong motor, especially in a smaller vehicle. There are lots of city cars in Europe like the Toyota Aygo for example is about the same as Mitsubishi Mirage. Or the Nissan Micra sold in Canada not USA. Funny buisness going on.

Either way, call me OCD, but being as how I drive a car carrier for a living, and I'm hardly ever in my cars on a per unit of time basis, I usually keep everything from the seats and carpet, to the engine bay and undercarriage clean enough to do brain surgery on.. my cars are like children to me. And then we try to trade it in and being a 2020 with 45,000 miles we only get offered $7500 for it and she bought it brand new for 18,000 in 2021 that’s one of those cars that I wish that I bought a couple years old or I would’ve saved a little bit of money. But what’s crazy is I bought a 2012 Kia soul with 150,000 miles on it and nothings wrong with it I’ve only put one alternator in it And then it instantly ran and has had no problems and I got it for only $4500 I live outside of Denver and I usually have to drive 60 miles one way to work in the Kia soul is been great but honestly I’d rather have my ram but because Of gas prices the Kia soul looks pretty good right now

Some questions. How many miles so far? Do you stay on top of the JATCO CVT7 fluid swaps? Have you been on MirageForum? DeMuro is a paid shill saying the Mirage was unreliable. He didn't even know what a floor vent was! Here's a 2014 Mirage CVT that went 400k miles and still going.

DeMuro is entitled to his opinion, but its just an opinion. If it isn't big, bulky, and stereotypical American sized model he doesn't like it. Personally, I like vehicles that you can easily get in and out of parking with, or something you can easily turn around in a tight space. Big vehicles just aren't worth it, which is the norm in North America. With regards to Mirage, owners' reports show these vehicles are lasting a long time. If its reliable, that's more than half the battle. Reliability is everything when it comes to value for money spent.

@@kylemas2005 The Spark has a Chevrolet badge, but its very much a south Korean/asian built vehicle. In fact, the Mirage and Spark share parts, the Jatco CVT transmission in the Mirage is identical to the one they put in the Spark, at least it was for the 2017 model year I purchased. I'm assuming they've kept the same supplier as little has changed on the Spark. I think the Mirage is manufactured in Thailand, but the suppliers are still quite similar for the two. Mirage is actually more spacious than a Spark, I rented a Mirage and compared it to my Spark and realized it has noticeable upgrades in shoulder room, hip room, the backseats are far more comfy in the Mirage, and there's more storage. Spark is a micro car, Mirage is merely a compact. I didn't realize how different they were until I drove the Mirage. The Spark's 100 hp engine is more peppy, though it does come with a drop off in fuel efficiency.

@@kylemas2005 I'm unsure what the Spark uses as well, but I can tell you that it tries to mimic a traditional automatic, which I actually do not like. The reason why is because its not natural to the CVT, it becomes jerky with the slightest pressure on the pedal when you're at highway speeds. I wished they would allow for the CVT smoothness and highest optimal ratio to be selected depending on how hard you press the pedal. But its the same hardware underneath.
