The trailers did this film so dirty. It's a shame it's box office is so low. Hopefully streaming and toy sales are enough for them to make a full trilogy. We need it.
I love the transition of megatrons eyes so much. From pure yellow at the start, then starting to turn orange after he learns the truth, then red when he drops Orion.
This is actually a reference to how the original Megatron toy had yellow eyes but they drew him with red eyes in the original cartoon. These dudes did their homework.
they were yellow at the start, when he believed in the life he had and what he was working towards what color is Sentinel covered in? metallic blue, _and yellow_
"I'm done saving you." That moment was so chilling. I knew D-16's turn had to happen, but I was still stunned in that moment. Brian Tryee Henry was amazing.
Brian Tyree Henry often flies under the radar when it comes to discussing great actors, but even when it's just a bit part like in Joker he always brings a little extra something to everything he's in. Never would have guessed a Transformers movie would finally get him the recognition he deserves, but I'm all for it.
He’s literally a top 3 megatron voice actor out of the 40 years of transformers! Right next to David kaye and Frank welker, and it might even be my favorite version of him, I had a sense megatron was gonna be the one to watch this film and I’m so happy everyone walked away with basically him being the standout ❤
Honestly true. I loved him in Bullet Train and Atlanta, and he was great in this. Not to mention him being Jeff Morales in the spider-verse franchise, which still blows my mind. Sounds absolutely nothing like him, to the point where I still had trouble believing it even after looking it up on google. For sure one of the most underrated actors today.
My favorite inspiration quote from this movie: “What defines a Transformer is not the cog in his chest, but the spark that resides in their core. A spark that gives you the will to make your world better.” What Orion/Optimus did is use the words from Alpha Trion is to inspired the minors to be much more than what they were and forged their own paths by standing up to Sentinel's oppression. That's character growth from be a rebellious bot to an leader of what soon to be called Autobots.
What's also great is that Orion Pax is not just rebellious for the heck of it - he always has reasons for being rebellious like what Elita said be it to help solve an energon crisis, saving a friend, or inspiring an entire class of miners. He also wants to take the blame, making him a leader prototype already.
i always love and have respect for movies aimed towards younger audiences that aren’t afraid to embrace the darker side of their material. this was one of them - the transition into D-16’s villain story is so well-executed and i really hope the overarching story is able to be completed. the scene at the cave that initially starts the transition where he goes on a rant about how he wants to kill Sentinel Prime is so emotionally charged and the voice acting from Brian Tyree Henry is great. I know it didn’t do wonders at the box office but it would be a shame if this didn’t return. Love you guys and your reactions!
Everyone always goes "D-16 caught him and Megatron let him go." No. Megatron shot him. Megatron caught him. And Megatron let him go. The optics turning red was a VISUAL representation of him fully going to the dark side, but that transformation started the moment he learned the truth. Megatron was ALWAYS there, simmering under the surface. That's the point of the movie, just as Optimus was always there, simmering under Orion's surface. Waiting for the moment to evolve into who he was meant to be.
Yeah you can see his eyes getting red slowly after learning the truth. He broke then and slowly went further and further over time. He went over the edge when Pax went over the edge. Both of them fell at that moment. One stood, one fell.
Megatron is not an alter ego a lot of people seem to take it as such. Megatron is just the name he gave himself now to honor Megatronus. He’s still the same d16. In the usual transformers canon, d16 was a gladiator who fought in the pits of kaon. He took the name megatron to honor megatronus prime. The darkness that came out was always in him all along. It’s who he is. He wants the well being of his planet, but he wants to do it his way, and his way only. Mainly violence. His vision is the only vision. In many renditions of transformers, both Optimus and megatron have the goal of reviving their war torn planet that is destroyed, they just have different visions on how to do it
Yeah we see a lot of signs before. D-16 didn't "change" after learning the truth. The environment changed, and as a result what was always in him is now rising. He's obsessed with protocol, he believes in the classism (e.g. when he says Darkwing had the right to hit him because he acted against a has-cog), he's immediately dismissive of the very idea of miners like him getting or even deserving better lives, he believes in the necessity of mining (a job that never needed to exist), he believes in Sentinel, etc all as a coping mechanism, to keep him going, telling himself that he's not suffering some injustice and there's nothing to be bitter or angry about. But now that he can't tell himself that anymore, the thing those coping mechanisms were keeping down rises up immediately.
D-16 found out the truth and want revenge and death, Orion found out the truth and wanted justice and to right the Sentinel’s wrongs. One was All for one and the other was One for all. I love the fact that you can see these traits from the get go. Orion though he was acting and not thinking of the consequences, he did so only hoping to show others they are more than meets the eye 😏 Whereas D-16 though he was following the rules was always thinking of himself and how things affected him rather than others Fantastic film!
God seeing Optimus and Megatron friendship slowly break and crumble through the movie was so sad a real emotional gut punch. The animation was just stellar
No joke I left the theatre with so much awe of how fucking awesome this movie was like holy shit man we finally have a good transformers movie after how much Bay tarnished the image of this franchise. @@tmac731Yes, I already saw the 2nd trailer, bit of improvement over the first trailer. But it still killed everyone's anticipation after that first trailer.

Everyone sings Brian Tyree Henry's performance as Megatron (rightfully so), but can we also appreciate Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime? He was a SHOCKINGLY perfect choice to voice a younger version of the character. He really starts to sound like Peter Cullen as the movie goes on, especially when he gets the iconic face shield in the third act.
From what I've heard, his initial reaction to the casting was "are you sure you don't want Peter?" He apparently spent a good deal of time working with Cullen to develop the voice for it.
I love the quiet foreshadowing of Elita being reassigned to waste management, but later finding out from B-127 that all the garbage gets incinerated. If there’s no garbage, why have the trains…
This really explored the brotherhood of Orion Pax and D-16 so well. You can see the metamorphosis with the characters as they figure out the Truth with what Sentinel Prime did and the affect it had on D-16 personally was huge and that's when you see the flip switch and see the birth of Megatron. Brian Tyree Henry brought his own take so well and he wasn't in the shadow of Frank Welker. I am also glad to see that once he transformed it was a military tank because the animated series of the 80s when he transformed it was first as a gun which was terrible and its as if Darth Vader turning into a light saber but as the series continued on he turned into a military tank. When it came to Orion Pax you saw the same thing with him going through a change but it was definitely towards the final moments when he becomes Optimus Prime you see he is no longer Orion Pax. You see the change in his voice where it became serious.
The thing I love is that neither change comes out of nowhere; from the beginning, D-16 is primarily concerned with himself; what will happen to him, what Sentinel will think of him, how Sentinel betrayed *him*... Orion's constantly talking about how things affect "our world", how "we can be more", and even when they learn the truth, his concern is for "how we get the truth out and tell everyone".
Just so you get how strong D actually is: D smashed through the mining tunnel with his BARE HANDS. He held back Darkwing’s fist ONE HANDED. AND there’s a deleted scene where it shows he was literally leaving DENTS in a STEEL punching bag.
Why is it always the unexpected run scene cracks me up? First Orion trolling about transforming before running away, B running away, and the guards running away from B.
I was one of lucky ones to see Transformers One very early in July at a NYC screening. All the audiences got free drink, popcorn and candy. Then after the screening they handed out free toys of characters from the movie. I got an Elita-1 action figure.
The entire racing sequence is my absolute favorite part of this movie. It's like a Cybertronian version of Nascar!🏎🏍🏁 Fun fact: Transformers veteran and VA Steve Blum made cameo as the Iacon 5,000 Race Announcer.
I love the little ways they seed in minute elements of the mythos and lore, including teasing characters who will eventually join the Great War down the line when the factions fully form. Seeing the background cameos from characters like Ratchet, Arcee, Darkwing being a dockworker bossing around Orion and D-16, seeing Skywarp among the High Guard. Soundwave holding Shockwave back while D-16 is pummelling Starscream to signify his early allegiance to his cause. Even explaining the Decepticon insignia as Megatron reclaiming a marker of weakness branded onto him by Sentinel as the defacing of his entire worldview. This is how worldbuilding is done
In my opinion this is easily the best transformers movie. The animation is stunning. Hemsworth was way better as Optimus than I expected. The friendship of Megatron and Optimus felt so believable and genuine as well as megatrons turn to villainy. This movie was full of powerful, shocking, goosebump shots, scene and dialogue. It's such a shame the trailers didn't capture just how well written and powerful the story actually was. This was a fantastic origin story.
This is easily my favourite Transformers movie. The heart, story and characters are just great. Please give us that trilogy man, I want to see the war for cybertron !
Bro, I wish I could see this again in theaters on opening weekend. The crowd went f***ing wild when Arise Optimus Prime was said on screen and we lost our damn minds.
This is easily the best transformers movie we have gotten entirely. Honestly one of the best origin movies imo and to be honest one of my favorite megatron depictions of all time. His fall was so well done and just omg I was in awe for the entire second half of the movie.
This movie I went in worried because the trailers made it feel very not for older fans but this movie found a fantastic balance of appealing to both kids and kids at heart.
the fact that RR has to reassure TH-cam that the "violence" in a PG movie isn't real tells us everything we need to know about the moneytization algorithm
Fun fact about B-127, because Michael Bay didn't give him any voice in his movies, they wanted to make him talkative to the point that it was almost annoying. You guys should react to the "behind the bots" video on TH-cam where they explain a whole bunch of their decisions for the film.
53:00 that's the transformers 80s movie pose. I never watched that movie but I know the pose. This was fun. I saw bumblebee in theaters in February 2019 with my Mom and we both liked it.
This movie is absolutely amazing. One of the main reasons why I like it is because it shows that Optimus and Megatron were once as close as brothers before they were enemies
Such a great origin story beyond all else. D-16 trusted in the system, but after being exposed to the truth believed no one other than himself should take authority. Orion Pax always always wanted to do his part, but never thought it would extend to this amount, yet he still accepted it for the greater good. Neither are entirely wrong in their beliefs, but enough so that their core opinions differ to an extreme degree. Never thought it would be so great, but as a long-term fan of this franchise I feel this done right beyond all expectations
I put this on the Media Knights comment section when they reacted to this, but I thought it was worth repeating here: I noticed that when Megatron/D-16 calls Optimus/Orion “Prime” for the first time, it has the tone of a slur, because we know now how much Megatron loathes the idea of Primes. It retroactively colors every interaction the two bots have had with one another in all of the other Transformers media. It’s not just Megatron calling Optimus “Prime” for short. He’s saying it as an insult.
I just gotta say, in the moment when d16 drops Orion, I love how the following scenes depict the fall, for Orion it's more literal only for him to rise back up as something more, but for d16 it's more figurative, him breaking through the bots heading towards sentinel the slow motion advance to his ultimate decent into his iconic role as Megatron, beautiful.
One thing I love is that the bots almost run like the toys in Toy Story. Like Bumblebee running on top of the train looked exactly like Buzz Lightyears run.
The Decepticons were often (most continuities) the good ones at start. The movement was to vanish the tyranny in Cybertron, but Megatron on his seek of peace and equality got driven by anger and resentment, becoming what he hated the most, a tyrant leader, that is why prime seems to spare him most times waiting for Megs to recognize that and join him like in old times... but that rarely ever happens...
Im disappointed in you guys for not watching this amazing film in theaters, but I at least can forgive that you guys are watching it and appreciating it now
Just figured I'd id say this cause I've heard people on a lot of reaction videos asking why it was okay to kill the Death Trackers but then Orion has a problem with killing Sentinel. There are two explinations of why. 1 Death Trackers function as the vehicons of this universe, they are more like drones, so it isnt really executing someone sentient 2 When it came to the Death Trackers, they were in active combat and killing because of self defense, while on the other hand Sentinel was defenseless and begging for mercy. So a public execution of someone defenselessness and killing in self defense are very different things.
46:24 - great reference to X-Men: First Class (2011) about from being friends to enemies and same thing will happen for Mufasa and Scar in the upcoming Mufasa The Lion King film
The interesting thing about the Transformers franchise is that they began as toys before any kind of deeper story was developed. Everything that came after was storytellers putting the story together as they went and the story has certainly gone places and the canon has changed here and there. Transformers One is definitely great setup for the future of the series and I really like their take. There's a recent comic series Transformers: Shattered Glass that actually reverses the roles and turn Autobots into tyrannical villain roles and the Decepticons as freedom fighters. It'd be crazy to see that story adapted to film ~
Transformers Prime is the best Transformers show showing lore like this movie did . This is such a good movie love them actual being faithful to Transformers lore
love they finally show the golden age of cybertron , that we as a fan want to watch in the movie. even is new transformers origin story even better very easy for any new fan and old fan that never watch alot variant tv series or read the many variant of the comic.
One little visual detail I love is D-16's/Megatron's eyes. At the start of the movie, they are yellow. But they didn't just dramatically change color when he dropped Orion Pax. His eyes actually started to gradually change color when they learned of Sentinel Prime's betrayal. By the time he fought Sentinel, his eyes were a very deep orange. Then they finally turn red when he fully embraces the hatred.
Brian Tyree Henry really out did himself with his incredible performance and his deep understanding of Megatron since always wanted to play the villains. Every villain is a hero of his and her own Story. D-16 is not only a product of Cybertron’s corrupted system and takes on Sentinel Prime’s oppression though violent means all the social injustices he had experiences forged his transcendence into Megatron and building up to a rivalry with Orion turned Optimus Prime (due to wanting the same goal of a unified Cybertron but have different viewpoints). But their friendship is doomed since they discovered that shocking realization their leader Sentinel Prime had sold out Cybertron to the Quintessons after betraying his fellow Prime brothers and sisters, and ruled his planet through oppression. D-16 has put too much faith in the system he has held on to until his worldview was shattered that boils up to anger and a personal vengeance after being suffered of the social injustices while Orion still kept his optimism by exposing the truth of Sentinel's corruption. This what makes D-16 a much more of a compelling hero-turned-villain and tragic character in Transformers history. And the rift between two brothers. Both D-16 and Orion really wanted a unified Cybertron but each have different ways to bringing it into fruition.
1:03:04 Look how Optimus's axe is right on level with Megatron's head. If he continued with that one single stroke he'd have cleaved Megatron's head in two like he did in Dark of the Moon, ending the war in an instant. And yet at the last moment, he hesitates, and pulls the blade up to disarm Megatron but spare his head.
@@Arashi257 omfg I just realized that was a Key and Peele substitute teacher skit! And Key voiced Bubblebee here "WHERE IS A-AARON?!!!"🤣God I miss good comedies
The final act of the movie was my favorite. The entire fight scene was amazing and the best I’ve seen Transformers fight in my life. The only thing that I wish they did was make Orion’s voice change to Peter Cullen’s Iconic voice when Orion got The Matrix Of Leadership
I'm not a Transformers fan but even I loved this movie. Its got such a fun story, and Chris Hemsworth weirdly shines as Optimus Prime. Hopefully a sequel does get made despite the film flopping

You see the change in his voice where it became serious.
I think you meant sentinel prime, ultra magnus was not in this movie
@@Gicosaurus corrected it.
Just so you get how strong D actually is:
D smashed through the mining tunnel with his BARE HANDS.
He held back Darkwing’s fist ONE HANDED.
AND there’s a deleted scene where it shows he was literally leaving DENTS in a STEEL punching bag.
Why is it always the unexpected run scene cracks me up? First Orion trolling about transforming before running away, B running away, and the guards running away from B.
the first one cracked me up so bad
This movie deserves so much better! Hopefully we get a sequel
34:00 I did an interview with the production designer and he said they did model the ship after crabs!
Amazing
Thank you
I was one of lucky ones to see Transformers One very early in July at a NYC screening. All the audiences got free drink, popcorn and candy. Then after the screening they handed out free toys of characters from the movie. I got an Elita-1 action figure.
I like that Aelita's comment about optimism is a subtle hint to the audience about what makes Orion Pax a Prime.
56:57: I wish D-16 had said "I never thought I would live to see the day a Prime begs for their life. Oh, that's right. You are no Prime."
bros too angry to talk shit 😭
This is how you do a great TF movie. I hope Paramount sees the love it's getting & makes a sequel.
i swear the part where megatron said “NO MORE FALSE PROPHETS” he sounds a lot like Kratos
12:43 - Even the Sentinel Prime in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" was a traitor.
My favorite transformers film of all time.
he's pretty much always a dick or a traitor
@@jakeanderson8951dark of the moon is my favorite movie period
The entire racing sequence is my absolute favorite part of this movie. It's like a Cybertronian version of Nascar!🏎🏍🏁
Fun fact: Transformers veteran and VA Steve Blum made cameo as the Iacon 5,000 Race Announcer.
"i accept those terms" your gonna regret saying that😂😂😂😂😂😂
Me & my 10yr old thought this movie slapped when we saw it in the theater, hope it gets the sequel it deserves 🍿
Orion's optimism and hope turned his best friend into a tyrant.
Megatron's fury and apathy turned his best friend into a Prime.
Please give us that trilogy man, I want to see the war for cybertron !
finally, someone caught Ratchet over the intercom.. wtg Andrew!

I saw bumblebee in theaters in February 2019 with my Mom and we both liked it.
you should watch it
Love how chris hemsworth adjust his voice more to peter cullen at the end make everything so connected
Orion
Pax always always wanted to do his part, but never thought it would extend to this amount, yet he still accepted it for the greater good. Neither are entirely wrong in their beliefs, but enough so that their core opinions differ to an extreme degree. Never thought it would be so great, but as a long-term fan of this franchise I feel this done right beyond all expectations
I put this on the Media Knights comment section when they reacted to this, but I thought it was worth repeating here:
I noticed that when Megatron/D-16 calls Optimus/Orion “Prime” for the first time, it has the tone of a slur, because we know now how much Megatron loathes the idea of Primes. It retroactively colors every interaction the two bots have had with one another in all of the other Transformers media. It’s not just Megatron calling Optimus “Prime” for short. He’s saying it as an insult.
I'm so devastated this wasn't marketed correctly at all! It was amazing and more people needed the opportunity to see it in theaters!
Transformers Prime is another masterpiece and Brian Tyler is the music composer for both Prime and One.
And there were NO humans in this movie! Hallelujah!!!
ARISE… Optimus Prime!!! Gave me chills omg! 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯. The best Transformer movie I’ve ever seen. Thank you Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg. 🐐🐐🔥🔥
Acting like you guys watching this for first time...woww😂😂❤
One thing I love is that the bots almost run like the toys in Toy Story. Like Bumblebee running on top of the train looked exactly like Buzz Lightyears run.
The Decepticons were often (most continuities) the good ones at start. The movement was to vanish the tyranny in Cybertron, but Megatron on his seek of peace and equality got driven by anger and resentment, becoming what he hated the most, a tyrant leader, that is why prime seems to spare him most times waiting for Megs to recognize that and join him like in old times... but that rarely ever happens...
Crazy how Optimus Prime has been a better male role model and a part of my life for longer than my own father, despite being fictional. 😅
Im disappointed in you guys for not watching this amazing film in theaters, but I at least can forgive that you guys are watching it and appreciating it now
A-atron made me chuckle! 😂
"Jazz can't ever catch a break"
Cliffjumper: wh-guys, are you SERIOUS?!
Just figured I'd id say this cause I've heard people on a lot of reaction videos asking why it was okay to kill the Death Trackers but then Orion has a problem with killing Sentinel. There are two explinations of why.
1 Death Trackers function as the vehicons of this universe, they are more like drones, so it isnt really executing someone sentient
2 When it came to the Death Trackers, they were in active combat and killing because of self defense, while on the other hand Sentinel was defenseless and begging for mercy. So a public execution of someone defenselessness and killing in self defense are very different things.
One of my favorite films of the year!!! Thx for the rewatch gentlemen!!!
Chris as Optimus is so good !
46:24 - great reference to X-Men: First Class (2011) about from being friends to enemies and same thing will happen for Mufasa and Scar in the upcoming Mufasa The Lion King film
*"I Am Optimus Prime!"* Best Line Ever ✨️
I love how they do the ONE SHALL STAND AND ONE SHALL FALL in this movie.
D16 STANDS becoming Megatron, While Orion Pax FALLS to become Optimus Prime
This movie is great after transformers prime, this movie is what did justice to the characters.
0:20 I thought Uno was Spanish. 😅
it is spanish
Chris hemsworth is worthy in every universe
30:35 called it
Optimus was Alexander Hamilton and Megatron was Aaron Burr lol… I loved this movie so much 🔥
love they finally show the golden age of cybertron , that we as a fan want to watch in the movie.
even is new transformers origin story even better very easy for any new fan and old fan that never watch alot variant tv series or read the many variant of the comic.
Funny thing is , D16 got the Name MEGATRON because of Megatrous Prime, and hearing Bumblebee say,
[[BADASSATRON]]
The cogs are like a metaphor for puberty - when you lose a child's naivety and grow into your true stuff
I'd have had him put a little more of a growl on his final "PRIME".
"Whosoever holds the Matrix of Leadership,
If he be deemed worthy,
Shall possess the power of the Primes."
Best Transformers movie period 👌 ❤
1:03:04 Look how Optimus's axe is right on level with Megatron's head. If he continued with that one single stroke he'd have cleaved Megatron's head in two like he did in Dark of the Moon, ending the war in an instant.
And yet at the last moment, he hesitates, and pulls the blade up to disarm Megatron but spare his head.

If you look closely at Megatron when he said, "This isn't over, Prime!" You can see his tears lol.
1:07:45 That self Superior, almost condescending look is so megatron, I want a screenshot of that for my desktop background.
The final act of the movie was my favorite. The entire fight scene was amazing and the best I’ve seen Transformers fight in my life. The only thing that I wish they did was make Orion’s voice change to Peter Cullen’s Iconic voice when Orion got The Matrix Of Leadership
