Those engines have a supercharger bypass valve that doesn't close until higher up in RPMs or under heavy loads. That's why you weren't registering boost until later in the RPM range.

@@aaronbays4 no, that's how roots style superchargers work. They wont go into boost until the throttle is pressed hard enough. I have a 06 cobalt ss/sc and I can go to redline and not be in boost, if I keep the throttle light. I can also get into boost as soon as I press the gas. Boost from idle basically. I've been trying to get him to come to my town and test some of my cars. I have a modified 06 cobalt ss/sc, 2015 golf 4door tsi 1.8 turbo and a 2017 jeep jk 4 door lifted from dealership with cold air, halo led headlight rings, grab bars and speakers.

As somebody who has driven both versions of the Series II 3.8 V6, I can tell you that they don't need boost at lower rpms. The Supercharged Series II uses the boost pressure to keep building rpm past 4500 where the non-supercharged Series II's always seemed to fall off.

    • @aaronbays4
      @aaronbays4 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@mattflammger4396 I had a 1991 Regal sedan, 1st year for the W-body Regal sedan. 3.8 V6, man that thing made great off idle torque. Felt powerful thru that first 1/3rd of the loud pedal, keep it below 3000rpm and it was happy just to torque you along. Push the pedal to the floor, past about 3500-4000rpm there was no more power, it fell flat on its face. Quick off the line like any modern V6, past 50-60mph it really didn't have the power.

Headers, exhaust, cam, pulley (not a super-small one where you mill down the snout), intake & TB, a water-to-air intercooler, remove the counter-rotating shaft, a transaxle built to handle it,(with an LSD) brake upgrades and suspension improvements...fun, reliable, and runs under the radar

Stock pulley diameter is 3.6 IIRC. You can pulley down to 3.4 once you do the intake, headers, exhaust and a custom tune. Need to do a custom tune because no two L67s are the same. If you do injector and cam work, you should be able to pulley down to a 3.2.
The best mod is installing an intercooler. You can average 50hp gains and have almost zero KR. Only issues are they are pretty expensive kits and still require some fab work to fit well. It's a top mount intercooler
Buick can build great cars in-house but sadly GM has their brass balls down Buick's throat

I had a new one in 2001, could not keep in out of dealer repair...GM build quality was so cheap and plastic. The engine didn’t give any problems tho, just everything else.

Phenomenal vehicle! Yeah there's a few rattles here and there but they can be fixed. I bought the BMW M series and what a piece of fucking shit it was the fucking thing broke down every fucking day! Finally the engine took a shet at about 90,000 miles and they wanted 15 grand to repair it! Fuck it I'll take a GM Performance Engine over any other engine and the platforms in some cases outperform the European Elite asshole brands! The biggest problem is Americans don't like to service their Transmissions at a 30000 mile interval because they think everything should last forever therefore in one of these cars if you don't service the transmission it will go out at around 200,000 miles other than that it would last pretty much forever just like the engine

This was an industry-wide problem; I was just replacing the drivers-side inner door handle on my kids 99' Camry-- the thing just snapped in half. It is of course cheap beige plastic, as is the rest of the interior. Now while I say this was common across the entire auto industry in the 80's & especially the 90's- where domestic vehicles used cheap plastic interiors, they also suffered from poor fitment; large gaps, squeaks & rattles, etc... Japanese vehicles used the same cheap miles of beige plastic, the major difference being that all the pieces were well fit with no gaps, and time was spent ensuring no rattles or squeaks would occur.

My 2012 Subaru STi has a 'real blinker' too. No speaker or anything. Pulled the relay to replace it with a modified one for LED turn signals plus that highway one-touch-lane-change business.
On another note ughhh GM "leather" and plastic from this era are just the worst. I had an '87 Volvo 740 Turbo with leather and it was 13 years old when this car was brand new and the interior was in nicer shape. Also managed 165 hp and 185 lb-ft from a 2.3 L 4-cylinder.

Wow this guy knows nothing about the car.
-Performance shift changes the commanded shift time to be shorter, and will command more pressure at the lines, making a firmer and shorter shift. Older transmissions will typically feel little to no difference because worn clutches will mean longer shifts and near maxed out commanded pressure (to the point it throws a code P1811)
-The L67/L32 has a boost bypass valve that diverts all boost under no or low load. It is actuated by vacuum so you will feel the blower once you are on it. You can bypass the valve at the vacuum lines (I had to do this when I broke mine by accident), the car will jump and buck since the blower is always on, kind of annoying.
-If you get a smaller pulley, most can get away with opening the exhaust, a colder intake, and tuning for no knock. An intercooler will help quite a bit and does not cost that much, but larger injectors are almost never needed.
-Most people tune their own with DHP or HP tuners, you don't have to "know a guy" unless you do not want to undertake tuning (which is not that hard these days).

Friend in high school had the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 2 door version. Same supercharged engine, same w-body chassis. Great looking car but man was the interior a joke in terms of build quality.
As I've gotten older, I like the Buick Regal version a lot more, the Grand Prix is kind of tacky now days, especially the interior.
The Buick has no sense of style, so I can't really call it tacky, bad, good or dated. Plus the interior is WAY nicer than the Grand Prix, it rides nicer and has a lot more sound insulation. Great highway car, lots of power to cut people off or drive 90mph up a mountain grade if you want to be a dick lol.

  • @vincentbeaulieu5300

lol the passenger clearly knows nothing about the car or superchargers......
The bypass valve used to divert the air away from the intake manifold is vaccume actuated you dint need highway speeds to use the boost just 1/4-1/2 throttle......
Annother point it doesnt need it till higher up 🤪. Also false superchargers are used for lower end torque and boost is usually equal throughout rpm range since there is no turbine spooling up !!! This video is just garbage the inly good about it is the car and when he punches it....
