      They do this shit all the time. Another GM thing is that perfect a car to universal reviews and accolades from the automotive press and gearheads and then STOP making it. Think Pontiac Fiero GT, Buick GNX, Chevy Impala SS, the Caddy CTS-V and to a large extent the Corvette C7 which was in production in only a wink in time for a normal car model cycle.

      Saturn Astra. A pretty good car but they wouldn't even put it in Saturn commercials in my part of the USA. Saw the back bumper once as they talked about a different car.

      It's a large familiy car in Europe ;) The Opel Astra is a family car and the Opel Corsa is a small family car. Or in other brands, a Ford Fusion / Mondeo is a large family car, Focus is a family car and the Fiesta is a small family car and the Ford Ka+ is a city car. :) Once you see our trafic and the size of the parking places you get why we have small cars ;)

    It's really interesting how different countries have different ideas of how a car can be used. In the UK that car would be used for a family of 4 or 5, towing trailers to the tip, or a caravan on holiday will a roof box, full of stuff. Then getting used filled with Ikea flat pack or having white goods squashed in, bags of cement and lengths of timber hanging off the back.
    But yet, that same car is the US is seen as barely enough room to cope comfortably with one person just being used as a car, and the idea of loading it up to the gunnels with DIY, holiday or family gear is seen as totally alien, and how if you do that you need a pickup truck that would need 4 spaces in any car park over here in the UK. Just really interesting.

      @@rasklaat2 Sure, for someone wanting to carry 8ft long pieces of sheetrock then it's not practical. But a lot of people don't particularly want to do that. If you just want a car that will carry more stuff than you can fit in a saloon but you don't want a hulking great SUV with its poor fuel economy and compromised handling then that's where a car like this would fit. Although I wouldn't buy an Opel/Vauxhall/Buick/Holden I'd probably be looking more at an Audi A4 Avant.

    • @ninjamarcin25
      @ninjamarcin25 4 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      the thing is, in Europe you actualy have to haul sth as big as 8 ft logs like once a year or even couple of years. You can buy a smaller but big enough car for you, and order delivery service for that one time

    Pretty much all wagons are like this in Europe, and have been like this for a long time now.

    • @DrewLSsix
      @DrewLSsix 4 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      The last time wagons were a real power in US sales they were literally all like that old Buick wagon shown in this video.
      Huge body on frame things that do a fair impression of an SUV. Even with power often in the same range as this thing (well under 200hp from a big ish V8) they will happily tow a heavy load along with a full cargo area and your whole family.
      I honestly think wagons as a whole are spent in this market, but a wagon that barely exceeds the utility of a decent hatchback suffers both the hatch/wagon stigma and the lack of practicality.

    This is a strange one for me as a TourX owner. Calling it barely a wagon because it's not as practical as a full-size pickup or full-size SUV and old wagons were is a weird comparison. I wasn't planning on hauling 2x4s, drywall, or plywood in it; I use it to haul my family of 4. If you can accuse this of being "impractical" for those reasons, then the same is true of the Outback and the plethora of small crossovers out there that aren't as long and roomy as this. Identical cargo volume compared to the Outback. It won't haul "a fridge on its side" like Mr. Regular pointed out, but it moved a twin sized bed for my kid. I picked the tool that does the job best while not worrying about also having the tool that does all the jobs I'll probably never actually do. It serves our purposes well, and is much more practical than the Legacy GT that served as our primary family car before, and we got to not buy a crossover. Win/win.

    • @darens440
      @darens440 4 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Exactly. Its quite large inside and the back. Perfectly flat loading floor is ideal for cases of heavy stuff. I also owned at Golf Sportwagen and the TourX is significantly larger in every respect. I'd honestly be upset if the TourX was any bigger cause its already close to the size of a mini van as it is.

      I own a 2018 and I love mine. The rear space is perfect for me. I haul my ladders and supplies for work with ease. It does a great job hauling my kids. Its sure footed in the rain and snow. I took it on several multi-state road trips and it ran great. During Covid, I was able to really fly down the empty highway. I'm absolutely in love with it. I've owned Mercury and Lincoln cars in the past and I am adamant, best car I've ever owned is my Tourx. Lastly, I like that it is nice enough to impress my clients as well as my friends but not so fancy that I am crippled by guilt when I use it hard. Like I said, I think it's perfect.

I'd probably avoid doing so if it didn't come with an AWD system, though, because torque steer is a bitch. My car is, in fact, one of the relatively rare 2.0L Ecoboost AWD models of the Fusion, so it does just fine even when boosted to 305bhp and something like 370lb-ft of torque.

    2018 TourX owner here. Video is spot on. This isn't really a wagon, so much as a hatchback that is comfortable for adults in the rear seats, and has a mondo trunk. You can flop the back seats down and put a bicycle in there, but definitely no plywood. This thing shines though when you put a roof rack on it. You can put the biggest box Thule makes on there, centered so it looks good, and the back hatch will still open all the way. Try that with any crossover or SUV smaller than a Tahoe. I mean hell, I put an 12 foot long kayak on there yesterday and the rear hatch still opened all the way.

    I have one. 75 cubic feet with the seats down. I also have a roof long rack on top. It handles a huge amount of cargo with out a problem. Weight isn’t a problem over the rear, still has travel and rides nice. It’s a great car so far, 7,500 miles in and only minor annoyances such as the infotainment cutting out occasionally (fixed with an update) and a small rattle from the door lock. Cruises comfortably and smoothly on the highway. Enough power to give it some soul. We use it 100% of the time over our RAV4 for trips to Home Depot. For the money it’s a great car considering you can’t touch any other German wagons for $10-$15,000 more than this car. If there were other wagons on the market (not a subie fan) that were affordable, I may have went a different route. SUV’s aren’t for me, so this is what I needed for my family of 4. The comments I get all the time is that’s a good looking wagon, I didn’t know Buick made a wagon.....good job advertising GM good job. Probably would have sold better if anyone knew it existed.

    I was fortunate enough to rent one in Germany when I visited last year. They (Sixt) diddn't have the Mini Cooper I had reserved, and the lady upgraded me to an Opel Insignia. I had no idea what it was so I accepted. Imagine my surprise when I saw a very large (by Euro standards) turbo diesel sedan, with a 6 speed! I'd never get to drive one of these in the US ever, so I wound it out on the Autobahn. It effortlessly went from 50 mph to over 100mph all day, and I was still getting 45 mpg! The manual transmission was really smooth and the clutch, while light, was easy to feel the engagement point.

    My dad has one of these, after I suggested he check them out since I had heard the discounts on them were substantial. He got a fully loaded model for under $30K. Technically it wasn't new since the dealer had put some miles on it, but under 2K and still under warranty. This is a RARE car to see on the road. We live in SoCal, where nothing really turns your head since you see a little of everything. But, in the little over 8 months that he's owned it, I've only seen one other on the road. To put it into comparison, I drive a Chevy SS sedan, and as rare as that car is I will see another on the road about once a month.
    The Regal is a good car, about on par with equivalent VWs and Subarus (which are its most direct competitors). Interior room is good for tall folks, it's quiet, power is more than adequate but comes at the cost of having to run premium.

      Yeah probably. I can't imagine they would have continued it for long anyway.

      they should get their own style now that they dont have to share stuff. and if they had just marketed it and sold in canada. it would be a good seller

      Yes, the succesor of the Insignia (if it will be made) will be based on the Peugeot 508. The Astra will be based on the Peugeot 308 and the Corsa is already based on the Peugeot 208.

    I have a 2009 saab with a similar engine based on the epsilon II platform. For 210hp, it accelerates from 50 to 100 faster than any car ive owned, they kept the lineage here

      Fortunately I don't have much need for 4' bed, so I feel about my TourX same you feel about your ST. I also dig those STs, cool ride!
