This is how a comparison video is supposed to be made.. thanks for the effort in producing it! The Dark crashes have a more particular character than the brilliant, but both sets are nice.
I’m team classics custom. I play metal mainly, so I prefer having a relatively bright sounding crash and lighter hats. I think the darks sound great, but they have a darker tone that I don’t think works for me personally. Both rides sounded great, but I preferred the classics custom, though the ride is the only cymbal that I prefer to be heavy, so neither were my favorite.
@WolfstyleZ I think the thinking is that, if you are a low tuned band with alot of low pitch instruments its better to stand out with the drums. higher pitched cymbals, snare crack and bass drum clickiness. But after careful consideration, i think these dark cymbals will work fine. They will still cut through but offer potentially a more unique sound in the mix to other metal bands.
These, the dual customs and pure alloys actually sound really good when in a mix. Solo you definitely hear the lacking weight and depth that the Byzance have. But for the price, especially used, they really sit in heavy or electronic music really nicely. So much better than other companies budget cymbals ive heard.
I like both. They are quite similar. I like the bite in the regular hi hats, and the dark crashes would take repeated hitting quite well, but for a single crash hit you let ring, the regular suits me. I think a mixed set would be nice. Meinl, well done playing around with B10 bronze! And excellent comparison video.
I own the brand new 18 classic custom trash stack dark and it sounds better than any byzance/ artists concept stacks go figure but the rest of my cymbals are byzance. Now about this video in my personal opinion I only like the darks 18 inches and above that's including all types . From a 17 inch and smaller cymbal all types including hi hats I like the classic customs
Classic customs are bright, custom darks are dark. Not much else to say. Let your ear be your guide. Of course those darks look pretty nice don't they. Good demo bro. Thanks for the post.
They probably sound a lot better if they weren't choked so much. Loosen up or just get rid of the wingnut. Even the clutch on the hi-hat is so tight we don't really get to hear a good wash. You've got good style, your comfortable behind your kit and good pocket work. 🥁🤘
can someone help me? i am looking for a 16´´ trash crash and i have istanbul samatya 14 inch crash and splash and idk what trash crash will fit better, the classic custom or the classic custom dark pls help me because i think they both sound good but idk wich one to choose
Has anyone here used either the 20" or 22" Classics Custom Dark Ride(s) cymbals? I am trying to find as many public opinions before buying. What do you like/dislike? How does it sit in a mix? For reference, I use the 18"/16" Classics Custom cymbals, not looking to switch those to Darks, but the ride has me interested. Thanks in advance!
I've just owned them, but I haven't have the chance to play them. Being honest with you, i ironically have seen toon of videos of the typical set (14 hats, 16,18 crash & 20 ride) because im afraid they maybe not sound as i imagine... Probably this incoming weekend i be able to finally play them live... So... Im gonna find out if they're worth it. Im afraid of the ride more than anything... but who knows, ive reading half & half comments (50% ride bell sucks & 50% it is amazing). Wish me luck & if it is still useful to you, i'll share u my opinion after i play them).
So personally I feel the dark ride in the 20 inch has too much wash when you crash the bow of the cymbal. I have the whole set. I got the 21 inch ride and you can crash and ride it!❤️ much better. I love the rest of the dark set. 18,16 crash 16 trash China, 14 trash crash, 10 splash. 14 hats. At my last show, 2 drummers complimented the look and sound of them. Great price too!
i think the darks get a little lost behind distorted guitars and the brilliant ones can still be heard..even though my mind tells me i should go dark for metal,my ears are saying to go brilliant
Seems like the Dark ones blend in with the overall mix better. My band mates complain about the Classics beings too bright and almost ear piercing during louder parts :(
What music do you play? I play in a Death Metal Band and I'll be going for either the 18" CC Extreme Metal Big Bell or the 18" CC Dark Big Bell. Leaning towards the dark tbh.
Man. Tough choice but I think I prefer the dark except the 16 inch and the classic sounds better. I think the larger the cymbal, the dark sounds better. I'm thinking I'll love the 16 inch hats and larger cymbals in the dark series. Lots of money to fork out if I don't like em. Gonna be a big jump from these cheesy sabian 8s I'm now playing
Jim Channick I think they are pretty versatile cymbals and would work for most any genre. Having said that, I personally would probably lean towards the regular classics custom for those genres specifically. In my humble opinion.
They are pretty heavy though. Take a look at Zultan cymbals (from Thomann), they got all sorts of Cymbals in B20 Bronze (CS are even B25) for pretty low prices.
I absolutely hate, when cymbals have a distinctive pitch, those classics sound about as bad as my Meinl HCS.. The custom dark are not nearly as bad, but still.. For the price of the Custom Dark set, you can get a Zultan Dune set from Thomann, which is like Meinl Byzance on a budget. Allmost anything from Zultan is better than the low-budget Meinl Stuff The custom Dark Trash china is pretty good though
Never liked the classic series. They sound cheap... (which they are). However the custom dark set sounds quite well even if it's cheaper... I'm going with the foundry reserve. They are expensive as fuck but eh... well worth it.
This is how a comparison video is supposed to be made.. thanks for the effort in producing it!
The Dark crashes have a more particular character than the brilliant, but both sets are nice.
Exactly, you can compare perfectly with a reference back and forth and here all the tones quickly.
I think im team custom dark
Agree except not sure about the hats
darks “speak” more
Same
Darks are brighter
Digging the Darks, because they have a more sparkling ,shimmering quality. More character.
The winner is snare
Joke. Classics custom dark wins
Always appreciate these comparison videos folks take the time to do. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
This is how you do a comparison folks. Great video
Best comparison video I've seen yet, I would go with a mixed set
Thanks, Frank!
Same. I like the ride on the classic but I like the 18 and 16. the high hats I cant decide.
I would use classics custom medium hi hats and powerful ride and the dark for my 18 and 19 inch crashes and 18 China.
_"Best comparison video I've seen yet"_
Obviously you haven't seen many so far then...
@@ethanmuellerdrums Great cymbal comparison! Quick question Ethan - what is the song at the beginning of this video!?
Thank you this is exactly the kind of video I was looking for. 👍
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for helping me figure out the classics are the way to go for my setup.
The 16 dark crash sounded brighter than the normal classics custom 16 crash 😆
This is the comparison I’ve been waiting for. Team dark!!!
I love the way the darks look but I like how the medium sounds better I think

Outstanding method of comparison!
Dave Franco agreed!!!
Best cymbal comparison video I've seen. The recording is very honest and lets the cymbals' true character be heard.
Thank you for the comparison video. I'm thinking of getting the classic customs.
Finally a good video on this!
Hi-hat: both were great
Crash: good for different reasons
Ride: Dark. 100%.
Do the custom classics sound like sabians B8’s or is it just me
Yes, I was thinking that as well
My exact thoughts, especially with the crashes! The darks actually sounded pretty nice, the brilliant were a little underwhelming.
No, B8 is brighter…B10 is a little darker!!!
I like both. They are quite similar. I like the bell on the ride of the classic custom
Same
Same
Owned Classi Customs for years.. great series
these comparison videos are fantastic! I'm digging the Custom Classics just a lil bit more than the Darks but it's close!
Thanks for the comment! Classics Custom are what I use
the darks sound brighter...wtf
Put in earbuds

Norman Wilmoth yeah the small dark crash cymbal by the hi hat seemed to get lost in the mix.
This is a perfect demo video!!
I like the dark a lot better sound wise. Less hiss and deeper tone.
Great comparison video thank you for doing it.
Classic customs are bright, custom darks are dark. Not much else to say. Let your ear be your guide. Of course those darks look pretty nice don't they.
Good demo bro. Thanks for the post.
I dig the second track. Original?

Need to do one including the Duo's, also maybe toss in a Zildjian A just for reference.
Thanks for the vid. Buying the darks now!!
I think the dark cymbals blend into the sound more
This just made my mind up.. going for the darks
Dark hats and ride sound good but the crashes aren’t my cup of tea
Have a look at the larger crashes like the 19”,20”, and 21”. They sound amazing
can someone help me? i am looking for a 16´´ trash crash and i have istanbul samatya 14 inch crash and splash and idk what trash crash will fit better, the classic custom or the classic custom dark pls help me because i think they both sound good but idk wich one to choose

I just ordered the 10 piece dark set see how they do
do a revamp of this video, using both set at the same time. or only changing out the hi hats and rides. leaving the crash`s up all the time.
You can have both Brilliant and Dark Cymbals the same size... They will give you contrast
I want both because of the contrast
Now add the duals to the comparison… :)
For me, a mix of Classic and Classic Dark but Dark if I had to pick just one.
Great vid.. thanks. Definitely the darks for me!
I like them both. I would mix for sure.
What a great video!
Good job man! Great idea 💡
Classics for days

@@Luger0312 we play psychedelic rock/metal. Lots of distortion and other effects. I just got a Custom Dark Pack and they all sound amazing!
@@roniszR
Yeah I would have said for psychedelic stuff the darks might be the better choice. Their dark sound just adds to the music I guess.
I think the Dark in "Classics Custom Dark" simply refers to their color, there's nothing dark about their tone lol
The sound is different, yes. The darker is slightly heavier.
I mean, the classic customs seem pretty bright, so the classic custom darks sound darkER than them
I think you are deaf
@@tjaekeysofficial fr lmao
they are definitely crispier
What Promark sticks are you using?

Great video. Would these Darks work for funk/r&b or just rock?

Sounds really nice my man! Which one have you been using more?
Dont really black cymbals but those custom dark sounds so good
I’ve tried Meinl cymbals many times over the years, but they’re not for me. I love my Paistes.
Why in every demo video do they choke the hell out of the cymbals? Please loosen or get rid of the top felts & nut. Does anyone else feel this way?
Yes! that was the first thing I noticed in this video.
bro cual es el tema que tocas ya al finalizar jeje
Classics Custom hats and crashes, and the Classics Custom Dark ride.
Great video
Whose playing guitar? N is that a song?
Hihat and ride custom dark is good
Definitely Classic Custom
Awesome!!
Custom dark is the best
Are these cymbals cast or sheet?
derrick robertson B10 on both
DARK all the way
Dark crashes , classic ride and hi hat
DARK SOUNDS SO SO EEERIEE... TRUE TO ITS NAME
Con la música tam alta apenas se oye la batería
I'm going to go with the k and a's....lol... just kidding ... I like the darks I think...hard to say
Dark wins
Woo!
WHAT USE DRUM SET?
HUMAN USE DRUMSET
@@itsthemightyd2339 DRUM-SET NICE!
Ehhh I like the reg better for some reason, dark hats seems a little too trashy when open
Classic custom nice metal hithat.
All I paid attention to was the snare
any idea what snare?
I absolutely hate, when cymbals have a distinctive pitch,

dark totalmente.
and the winner is PAISTE PST7
NEITHER
No on the dark
But classics sound way better
Those tightened rides are painful to watch
Never liked the classic series. They sound cheap... (which they are). However the custom dark set sounds quite well even if it's cheaper...
I'm going with the foundry reserve. They are expensive as fuck but eh... well worth it.
incubus!
darks are better but the hi hats in both kinda suck
In the mix the difference between the two is apparent .
The Dark Classic stood out for distinct room for the drums with a full range Tone.
Compressed better than the way the other brighter wide tones of the Classic regular series.
With this said, without the drums in the mix just cymbals, the Classic cymbals clearly have a wide range of overtones and brightness.
Seemingly the Dark Dark Classic Tone wasn't going anywhere against the Brilliance of the Classic regular series.
It's the way they mix in the drums.
