I've owned and played just about every series from Meinl (except for the Foundry Reserve), and I can say that they're the real deal. Their cymbals have consistently been great, the quality has been outstanding, the customer/warranty support has been second to none, and their commitment to innovating and covering every side of the tonal spectrum has them being heads and shoulders above the other manufacturers.
This video was well done, with both the cymbals and even the drums sounding top notch. If I have one criticism for the video, it's the exclusion of the HCS Bronze series. It's easy to exclude them because they're less expensive and made of B8, but considering they're Meinl's only B8 line with its own range of specialty models (trash splash, trash crashes, trash chinas, and bells), it only makes sense to include them with the rest of their lineup.

Meinl is the only company that accounts for every cymbal line to mix and match when they design their cymbal sounds. The only complaint I have, that would be absolutely awesome, is a raw bell hybrid that was 3000 g's or more. The raw bell ride was a cutting ride, but it was dark and usually in the 3600 g range.

Have to agree. My 15" foundry reserve hi hats are my pride and joy. Love my sand ride, but I have to say they have to age to sound their best - the new ones like on this video don't sound the same, needs a few years of patina on it!

    • @andyham6094
      @andyham6094 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@escadrums2 also each cymbal is hand hammered so even the same exact size and model will sound different from each other based on weight and slight human differences in the hammering but mostly the weight. I would never buy a Meinl cymbal off a site like sweetwater or guitar center cause you are just hoping to get lucky and find the right sounding one. They are all gonna sound great but some are drier than others or trashier or heavier or thinner and so on. I only buy my meinls on mycymbal Memphis drum shop or other sites like that where you can hear the demo of the EXACT cymbal you are purchasing and buy that exact one in that demo.

Nice cutting attack with a quick, breathy, and complex medium-low undertone that lets you know it's there before getting out of the way right on time. One or two of the cymbals here I have and they sound a little different in my space (to be expected) to the recordings here - as a tool to understand the ranges this is excellent. Any prospective shoppers should also be aware there are some gems hidden within these ranges which aren't featured here (22" Raw Bell Ride for instance) which are kinda like unique outliers.

This is a brilliant idea, brilliantly executed. Thank you for providing such a valuable service. Sure, a drummer interested in these cymbals will still want to play them live in a store before making such an investment. But this video is much superior to the usual sound samples on manufacturer sites, which either give you an identical pattern played on the cymbal with no other drums or cymbals in the sample (Paiste), or give you that plus the cymbals played along to a generic rock track (Sabian). This video lets you see and hear the cymbals played by a live drummer you can witness with your own eyes. Crucial project, perfectly executed. Ten out of ten. Cheers!

Terrific video!!! This so, so helpful and really packed full! Thank you for the effort of putting it together! Please consider doing equivalent video with other Cymbal manufacturers.
I own a set of the Vintage Sands and one of Zildjian As & Ks. I really like all of the Brilliant series cymbals, and the Jazz, Dual and Pure Alloy crashes. I guess I’m becoming more of a light and bright cymbal guy as I get older.

When I heard the MB10’s at the PASIC show here in Ohio 14 years ago, I sold all my 2002’s the next day. When I heard the Pure Alloys last summer? I bought a whole set. Will keep MB10’s for touring punk shows. But the Alloys are my go to rehearsing & recording pie plates. Just astounding!

Honestly, I was pretty blown away by the Pure Alloy Customs. Definitely sound better to me than any other B12 cymbals I've ever heard. Might even sound better to my ear than some of the Byzance cymbals.

started a Zildjian guy, went to Sabian because Mr Weckl did, ended up at Meinl because they sound like what i hear in my head.
the first thing i would add that i don't have is one (or more) Extra Dry Dual crashes. they're nearly perfect.
also, yes, those drums sound sweet. i have more shell packs than i should, but i have to admit, they sound really nice.

I really love Meinl. I have, I think, 14 cymbals? Half of them are crashes. Across all sorts of ranges.
Soundcaster custom, HCS Bronze, Mb8, Byzance, classic Custom brill and dark. Love them

GREAT VID, I have a couple of the custom dark. (Switching from Sabian). Love the meinl custom dual look and sound. I'm a "professional novice" with a mapex voyeger 5pc. I like to play classic rock from the '70s. Video was very inspiring and educational. Keep it up!

For someone who has been a long time Sabian aficionado, I think this great video and demonstration of Meinl cymbals has me more interested! Do you have any general series and pairing recommendations for someone with a combination of AAX, AA and HH series Sabians? I've typically gone for the bright sounds, but I'm not really certain I want to make the jump to Meinl's brilliant cymbals as I really enjoy some of the vintage and darker, washy sounds, and so far I'm not digging the brilliant sounds of Meinl, such as the classic customs.

Not that I need another cymbal, but that Byzance Jazz line sound so good to my ears. No, not a jazz guy, they just sound so good and I want them to meet my 2B sticks.

In my opinion i think having the classic custom dual crash , the 15 inch dry hi hat , the byzance extta thin hammered crushed ride and thr fx cymbals of your choice is the most versatile choice so you can play most genres

I always (with every cymbal brand) gravitate towards the jazz lines even though I dont play jazz. They just always have this unique mellow sound which I really like. Also the jazz rides seem to be the only ones where you get a somewhat tamed bell sound. I really dont like when you hit a bell and your ears fall of because its so cutting.

I would never have considered listening to Meinl cymbals if DCP hadn't done a video on them because I only took Zildjian, Sabian and Paiste seriously. Didn't know what I was missing. I especially liked the Traditional, Brillant and Jazz lines but they were all impressive. I'm actually shocked at how good the line sounds. Thanks guys, for always producing such great and informative videos. And the Ludwig kit was incredible. From a sound perspective it's tough to beat their Classic Maple line.
