  • Hi everyone ! 🔥
    Today I’m going to answer a question many of you asked for a long time now !
    WHAT IS MY FOOT TECHNIQUE ? It’s time for me to unveil and explain it.
    It’s called double strokes and allows me (and many other drummers) to play very high tempos for extended periods of time.
    I’ll show you in details how to understand, assimilate and master the technique to be able to play fast.
    Small teaser : Last footage is 280bpm… 🥁
    As always, do not hesitate to ask my anything. I will answer each and everyone of you with pleasure !

      Lol Don't feel bad I've been playing drums since I was 7 and yet I still watch guitar videos all the time, all while wishing I could play like the people in the videos. Drumming is like second nature to me and don't get me wrong I'm still passionate about it today as I was a kid, which is why I'm trying to see are these pedals he's using worth the price tag. But not a day goes by that I don't wish I could play guitar as well, I have tried and tried and I just can't get the hang of it so I gave up.

      @@joelansinger8527 Check out what John Longstreth is doing with this technique. He gets the power on both strokes. It's a slight variation on this.
      But keep in mind that even he uses triggers, because if he didn't, his speed would be a muddle on an acoustic kit. This technique has been developed for speed. An acoustic bass drum, by its very nature, is compromised at these speeds. Triggers are the only thing that will make the speed negotiable, irrespective of the foot technique.

    His pedal is crucial. Can only truly get that technique down that well with that kind of pedal. I was using an iron cobra and couldn’t do even close to this.. then I got a direct drive with no heel plate and it’s effortless. Triggers are absolutely needed for this as well.

    • @Xylus.
      @Xylus. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I was thinking. I would bow down to anyone who can get that consistent and powerful of a sound without doing this with triggers.

      That's what I thought. I'm playing full natural on a normal double pedal (Sonor low class) and God it's hard for me getting to 180 with consistency. Still improving but damn it's hard.

      Try the ankle technique, that works with chain driven pedals and you can play until 240 a 250 bpm without triggers. Faster as well, but then the definition of the sound gets blurry. And less volume as well.

    • @ThomasCremier
      @ThomasCremier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To be honest, I can do the same thing on my Pearl Eliminator, chain drive, short board.
      It won’t be as comfortable yes. But I can play the same thing.
      Gear is just a tool. Without technique you won’t play faster or better if you just have a better pedals or any equipment.
      Give a beginner guitarist the greatest guitar on earth, he won’t make it sound great, at the contrary.
      But give the cheapest guitar to a pro guitarist, he will make it sound good and transfer emotions 😊
      But what I can say about triggers, is that it is necessary for fast tempos, whatever technique you are using (swivel, heel toe, heel up, heel down….). Or else, it will be a buzzing sound.
      Triggers are needed for fats tempo to be heard and having the precise attack 😊.

    Probably a common question, but not going through 4,000+ comments as you have over the years - How DO you find the time? Well, about the triggering - is it merely for sound quality and evenness of the hits pertaining to sound or are there any additional hits supplied by the trigger? No wrong answer, as you had said 'There are no stupid questions' elsewhere. Great words to live by! My own comment is 'It never hurts to ask, but you might not like the answer'. Great vid, hence it being an icon on my desktop. Thanks! I consider myself to be very fast, butt to add this technique, finally??? Step back, folks! 🤩🤗

    • @ThomasCremier
      @ThomasCremier  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there ! Thanks for watching and your comment!
      First, I took the time needed as I played for years minimum three times a week, I always had a band I played with minimum once a week from 2010 to 2018 approximately (and it really helps progressing)!
      About triggering, it helps first to a-have a consistent sound. It is not the acoustic sound which is recorded, but the combo triggers with a drum module allows you to choose a sample and this one will be triggered each time the trigger is hit.
      I made a video explaining what triggers are : th-cam.com/video/U-u9CQ2qiQs/w-d-xo.html
      It absolutely doesn't add any hit. All the hits played are listened more precisely, so technically speaking, it is more difficult to play with triggers because you hear all the errors you play ! So you need to be more precise compared to playing without 😉
      And exactly, there is no dumb questions, so do not hesitate if you still have something to ask!
      Cheers from France!

      I have a similar issue, since I’m a size 11 US, but since you’re using pretty much your whole foot for the first note, most pedals should do. If that isn’t enough, try longboards. They’re multiple inches longer than standard ones, so they are more comfortable and easier to play on.

    • @ThomasCremier
      @ThomasCremier  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      NerDrums I wear 42 (EU), I think it’s 9 (US), I was able to play this technique is short board pedals, and because my foot is half out of the pedal, my foot size doesn’t matter very much I think :)

    Dude, THANK YOU. I've been drumming for 20 years and use the heel toe (kind of) for double strokes on my right foot, but never could figure out the slide or how to do it properly for rolls including my left foot. You simple explanation of just pushing my foot down flat and then using the bounce to get the second hit just clicked with me and after a single day of practice I'm already doing super clean rolls.
    You did the Lord's work here man, I couldn't be more thankful. I can already do triplet rolls at insane speeds, and think I'll have 16th note rolls down by like Tuesday.

      Awesome, don’t set your standards as high as this video tho, the midi notes are edited and quantized to make it completely tied to the grid. That’s why it sounds so machine like and perfect, nobody is perfect, but you can be close

      @actuallynotsteve ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stanleyipkiss3806 Yeah thanks, I know most professional drummers use triggers but I refuse to. I'm either going to have it be organic and sound perfect, or have it be as good as you can get and not sound as machine link. Surely it's more than possible especially since I'm not going to be playing anything that's just pointlessly fast for the sake of it.

      If you look at the waveform of the audio you would see that the attack are not to the grid, there are some slight offsets which is normal, because it’s a human performance 😅
