    Thanks Chris, for the explanation as to why a dual Z axis screw may be necessary, as well as a test to see if your printer could really use it. Also a great explanation and example on how to install it. I know that this video is four years old but it is still very relevant.

  • @UncleRons_3D_Pub

    Thanks for another great video, Chris. I have often thought about adding the dual Z to my CR-10, but couldn't think of a reason why, since it prints so well. Thanks to you, I now know why I WOULD, when I SHOULD, and that I COULD, and that is GOOD (GOULD)! Many thanks, and keep them coming

      I am guessing that you have to 'disconnect' the steppers in the control panel and manually turn the lead screw to get it to match the existing prior to leveling the bed? or does the x axis rail just king of fall in to where it belongs?

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The X it still pretty rigid, so you will be pretty close when you install it. but you a quick side to side line before the bed level would be a good thing to do. I went back and did it after the video, forgot to do it before the intial bed level, but it turned out pretty well.

    Hey Chris. Just a heads up ...I'm subscribed and just saw this vid...a couple pointers. I do a vid called leveling the x-beam which actually does away with the play at the beginning of your vid...dual z is better, fair enough however you should perform that adjustment irregardless.
    Another observation is; on my dual motor z cr10s there is still Z height drift every time I boot it so I added a mechanical belt to link both z motors. Presto. No more leveling the beam every time you boot up.

    @jimmakes1862 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is it actually necessary to loosen the X belt tensioner/idler? Seems like you could get away without having to break those machine screws loose, although it's always good maintenance to check that you're happy with the tension and that the screws are tight when you're done.

    After some time with this upgrade do you consider it to be worth it, essential or just ehh? I'm on the fence with this since my A10 prints ow so well, but more consistency is king.
    I've been considering the belt dual Z option since the Z's will always be in sync not like this with Dual steppers, with possability of getting them out of sync. * still having a field day with my Tronxy CoreXY lol

    You know, on a printer of this size, that second lead screw should've been there from the factory. Looks like "that will do" attitude is all over this printer. "Form before function" rather than the other way around. I was planning to get CR10S but on a second thought, I'll build one the way I want it . Like the channel, keep creating!!!

    • @Mrpurple75
      @Mrpurple75 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      patrolmaverick yes you are correct full speed half torque parallel. Half speed full torque series. Parallel cuts amps series cuts volts. If he used 12v motors on a 24v system he could do series

    • @ChrisRiley

      Thanks Chris I have been running like this for six months and it is OK just curious

    • @soundsdigital
      @soundsdigital 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Buster6X6 The dual stepper motor in the config file is for having the second stepper motor connected to a second driver on the board. As far as the controller is concerned with this mod, it is driving one motor which is taking extra current. It may be necessary to tweak the driver current up a bit, but probably not necessary as the two motors are still carrying the same load though with the Z axis level there is less drag on it, so not drawing much more current than running just the one motor.
