  • Dyno #'s were 377 torque @ 3700rpm's/341 hp @5500 rpm on E85. How to flex fuel your WrX to run on E85. Had to remove the intake manifold. Took a brief look at an IAG oil separator, and put it back where it belonged. Installed a Grimm Speed pitch stop (dog bone), A GADT cooling system water pipe thingy for the rear of the head, Cobb 315600 Subaru flex fuel sensor ethanol kit, 315650 fuel pressure sensor kit, NGK LFR7AIX 2309 (one number colder than stock) spark plugs, IWIRE fuel injector adapters, Cobb, or Injector dynamics 1200cc fuel injectors, and a used TGV delete kit. Same stuff for an STI Impreza. 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 08 09 10 11 12 13 14

    The oil air separator is becoming a staple of STI mods. Considering the benefits, I’d say it’s worth it. Helps to preserve your turbo.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The factory system utilizes a PCV system. A system that has been used for 100 years for very specific reasons. Keeps engine, and oil cleaner. Burns off toxic, corrosive, harmful gases, and liquids like sulfuric acid (the most corrosive substance in the universe created from the combustion process), and promotes piston ring sealing. People promoting these "cans" no nothing of it. It is a band aid used for an engine that is not running right, and also used in racing applications along with short term engine life. I can see using it in a race car, but not for daily use. I would like to know how it "preserves" a turbo.

    • @seanmetully6806
      @seanmetully6806 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not a fucking bandaid you dunce. The stock pcv system has been proven time and time again to be harmful to these engines. Trust me. Iag knows what the fuck they're talking about. Everything the customer wanted was items that have been proven to improve the longevity and simplicity of the engine.

    Actually the oil air separator is very important for that car and there very good reasons to install it

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then why wasn't there one on the car from the factory? Why is it so much more important than the stock system that everyone else who buys the car under warranty, and extended warranty from the factory. Please do tell.

      Rust Belt Auto I don’t own a wrx or like them for that matter. I get that you trust your engine rebuild. But it’s a preventative mod. Later on when blow by does happen, he’s good to go. Why wait for a problem to start before addressing it ? Just like an EGR delete. Why wait for your EGR to give you issues when (if local laws allow you to) you can just go ahead and delete the system.....

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alexsegura9012 because it's a PITA, and it may not ever need it. If something is not broke, you don't fix it. It doesn't fix the cause of any problem either. I can see using one on a race engine that has excessive PTW clearance, and lots of blow by, but putting one on an old used up engine that is on its way out, or probably needs a valve job. kind of defeats the purpose of an aftermarket high performance part. It's a dirty hack IMHO, and the installation instructions are sub-standard. EGR's are a nice thing to have, and keep working as well.
      Just built a d16 honda turbo for myself. Most people delete the PCV, and put huge holes in the valve cover, with a catch can because boost pressure blows crankcase pressure all over the place. I put new valve guides in mine, and rebored with new pistons with the correct PTW clearance, and gapped rings. Using the PCV, and the breather hose going to my cold air intake is dry, and clean. Being an automotive machinist in the past, I know what people do, and why.

    • @alexsegura9012
      @alexsegura9012 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rust Belt Auto well worded reply and you are right. I am in the middle of boosting my 2.5 mazda and I’m adding a 3 port catch can to my pcv, valve cover and intake. I am at 136k and I also do not want boost in the crank case. I do get the ratio of amount of work needed to install the separator vs how much benefits you receive definitely doesn’t seem worth it. And you’re right about the EGR as well. I love your videos but I just didn’t agree with the “if it’s not there from factory it shouldn’t go in there” mindset. Keep up the good work.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alexsegura9012 factory turbo cars don't have catch cans. The PCV valve keeps the crankcase clean, and promotes piston ring sealing. Performance/race cars cannot use them properly because they spend almost all of their time under boost, and/or WOT. There is a small window of time for vacuum/differential pressure for it to work. EGR also reduces NOx, and does not function at WOT. That's why I say what I say. Race engines are a different animal, and that is not a factory car anymore.

    Fairly entertaining video though. And the aos actually simplifies a lot of those egr hoses you were having to deal with. It's madness until you plumb up an aos and read some of the explanations. Very much worth that extra bit of safety and simplicity in my opinion.

    • @RustBeltAuto

    Honestly, you complain too much. I work on different kinds of cars including subarus. Yes you can do them for a living, only if you know what you're doing. I can start at 10am take the hole car apart, refresh all the gaskets and have the car running by the end of my shift. A clutch on one of this cars pays from 6 to 7.5 hours, if you know what your doing. it can be done in 3.5 hours. when someone pays you for the job, just do it and take the money. if the car is a waste of time for you, just decline the job and don't make a video crying and complaining how a piece of shit that work is. Be more PROFESOINAL

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like to complain. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Always looking for something better. It's just too much for you. Your idea of professionalism doing a clutch in 3 1/2 hours sound like a quick and dirty hack. I don't think your idea of professionalism is the same as mine. Your reality is not my reality. People who don't complain, do not strive to make things better, and take things as they are. Just my point of view.

      @@RustBeltAuto Well sir, 3.5 hours looks like a dirty hack for you I'm sorry for just knowing my cars top to bottom. I always inspect everything, lube it and use all the right tools. All my works are carefully inspected before the shop manager let them go and my come back rating is almost none. I'm proud of my work. I don't waste my time when i'm working. Once I start a car, I don't stop until is done. that's how shit get done in half the time. After I'm done: I can eat, complain or waste my time on anything I want. That's without saying that half of the time also help my customers fixing little stuff that I find free of charge, making them happy customers and coming all the time asking for my services. That's the meaning of being a professional on any part of the world. But if CRYING and complaining to the car works for you, then bless you.
