    You're going through all this work just for 310hp. Fact is, even with just exhaust and intake mods, these stock Subaru engines are known to eventually fail due to mileage. If there is any inherent problem with your specific engine, 310hp would still cause your engine to break, but the damage would just take longer to surface.
    If you are just a regular guy working a 9-5 job at the mall, you would want to make your car as reliable as possible to save money on repairs and to ensure you can get to work reliably as to not lose your job. But you are a TH-camr. You are in the entertainment business. Your job is to document the process in a way that's interesting. I've been a follower for a long time and I want you to succeed. You guys have excellent production value. It's just that your videos are just like traditional television car shows. This channel has the potential to compete with other automotive TH-camrs in terms of entertainment value, but it is hugely limited by the lack of desire to push things further and to try exciting things. You have to ask yourself. Do you want to be content creators like Salomondrin, TJ Hunt, Tavarish, Adam LZ, etc, etc? Or do you want to be like dinosaur media such as Motor Trend? I am not a hater, I am a fan. But this video just makes me feel that, in my opinion, the content creator just wants to finish installing all the nice parts, get the car running, and be done with it. It's like you just want to get the car mods over with and go home as if it's a chore. The way Francine keeps insisting you to bump up the power more seemed as though he felt achieving such low hp was a waste of his talent and time.

  • @charliemoz
    @charliemoz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    The two most impactful mods you can do to an EJ to improve reliability, without splitting the block;
    1) Replace the oil pickup - factory one has brazed joints, and they crack. Suck air, lose oil pressure, engine goes bye-bye.
    2) Equal length headers - Cylinder 4 always (ALWAYS) runs leaner, and hotter than the others. Its the first to blow. EL Headers fix this by equalising, and reducing all cylinder temps.
    No need to split the block, no need to put it on a dyno.

I had an exhaust cut out, with the subby rumble and turbo spool, this forester sounded like a whip. All the looks I received made it worth 😎. Not everyone knows the potential of the forester xt. You went e85 for 310 hp? While I understand wanting longevity and reliability, you could have safely gone up to 330, 340. If you're worried about the current mileage of the motor, then why even bother going for more power in the first place.

    • @Turbochargedtwelve
      @Turbochargedtwelve 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But can you really do it safely??
      Most people I know who tried ended up lifting a head or cracking ringlands within a year or so.
      That said these are also guys who track their cars implying they actually are using the power.

    • @Bittertokken
      @Bittertokken 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@Turbochargedtwelve It's a high mileage motor that he's overly worried about breaking, so he goes for extra power so he can beat on it and have it last? I just find it contradictory.

    • @Turbochargedtwelve
      @Turbochargedtwelve 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Bittertokken why does it have to be all or nothing? High miles or brand new pushing a stock turbo EJ257 on E85 to 350 hp and 400tq will not last long if used hard. Dial it back, enjoy the plateau of torque and linear power for what it is. If you want more pay for the mods to do it safely(pistons, rods, head studs, and a turbo with a higher flow rate).
      Yes this motor might let go anyway ( though with the maintenance he’s done and the conservative tune it has a decent chance if living another 50kmiles) ,but at that age you can’t be that mad about it. When it happens you get a new one or rebuild it with the aforementioned pistons, rods and studs put all those parts on and then turn it up some more.

    • @redhead1515
      @redhead1515 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I’m making 350/340 on pump. 400+ on E85. 2006 WRX 150k miles. I have a buddy making 350/400 on E85. Stock block. Stock turbo. Another friend is making the same power level as me, 160k miles, stock block, he has been doing so for 3 years. All the same tuner too. If you know how to properly drive a turbo vehicle, maintenance one, and get a good tune then it’ll last.

    Mine is completely internally stock. Lol e85 on 24lbs its amazing. Never been happier. It's been forever since the tune a still going strong. Engine wise. Because the power it is making, transmission blew first before the engine. How much does it have, can't Remer the actual number, but I don't beat a 500hp bosted beamer. So not too slow still. But 25lbs my friend, it is not unhealthy. It's rather too much fun. But the amount of E85 she takes, ha. It's worth it

      Yeah. My wife drives an 2008 altima that I bought for 2400 and so far I spend almost 3k. New transmission and a lot more and it's our only car. Yeah cars can be a pain in rear main seal.

      @@l0k0ldestryer While I kinda understand what you're talking about, that's no where near a money pit. G&G's car cost $5k-7k, the 6spd swap and labor charge its self is another $7k-9k, the flex fuel install plus turbo would probably run another $3k-5k. Subaru motors are very expensive if the mods are pushing too much power, easily another $4k-7k for a new/built motor if it blows up. If only they brought the Forester STI to the USA, this would be less of a problem.

      @@eastflyco8777 I'm getting 22-24mpg, highway, on this break-in motor right now, I put in an IAG stage 2 block recently. almost completed 2k miles on it now. 16-19 city if i'm easy with the right foot.

    shuould've done an EWG setup
    Advantages-
    Less chance of boost creep as no internal gate can flow all that much
    Less exhaust restriction if you keep the wastegate pipe seperate

    I live in California, they just passed a new law January 1st, that if your exhaust is modified in anyways it’s a $1,000 fine and it’s not a correctible offense. I had no idea this was even on the books, I was shocked!!! The reasoning is to cut down on the illegal racers blah blah, just the stupidest thing I ever heard!!! I’m still gonna mod my exhaust and enjoy my cars, but I think the whole community around the country should know about this, there is a petition everyone is signing. CA man geez!! I need to get out of here!!!
