Very gorgeous piece! The wood grain is amazing! You did an awesome job! Love that you explain each process! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us! 😊
Thank you. I hope people learn from my videos 😁
I'm from Lenoir, North Carolina, where the Broyhill Furniture Industries home was located. They sold out to another company many years ago, and are no longer in business. They did make some fine furniture with different product lines at different levels of quality. Thank you for this informative video in which you carefully explained the processes and materials used to make a beautiful restoration. I have subscribed, and look forward to seeing more of your very fine work.
Thanks for the info!
Broyhill, that’s a name I heard a lot on 70’s game shows😊
OMG it would be so cool to see a Brasilia set for sale on The Price Is Right!
Great Job !! Beautiful !! Thank you for not throwing some ugly paint on that piece!!
Paint?!?! Never 😁

My cool Aunt had the Brasilia dining set! It was gorgeous. Like a Jetson's set...at least I thought so as a kid. You did a fantastic job!!!

'Lucky you' is right. With your restoration I doubt anyone would sell this for less than $4,500.
Market has died down a little since COVID. I think this sold for like $2,000 max.

OMG, how beautiful is that! Such a nice job. And how lucky were you to find a beautiful Brasilia piece like that.
Thanks. But it's not mine. It was a client's.
Great educational videos.
Thank you. The goal is for people to learn how to refinish furniture correctly.
Absolutely amazing piece of furniture. I love the shapes and woodgrains. Just as a n00b, why didn't you use the spray finish remover on the rest of the piece too?
I sprayed lacquer on the entire piece. I just didn't show it in the video.
Such an amazing job!
One question😂… are you scuffing between each of these 3 steps also? Vinyl sealer final coat, glaze coat, lacquer topcoat.
Scuff every coat of vinyl sealer. Scuff between coats of lacquer except the final coat. Never scuff or sand glaze.
Wonderful job, I enjoyed your instructions…new sub!
Thank you 😊
Great restoration ! It’s so nice to see you using environmentally safe QCS! Can you tell me what the Glazing step does ? Very nice , clear explanation of your products and steps , Thank you !
Sure! Glaze gets into the pores of the wood and makes them pop. Sometimes sanding will remove the color from the grain. Glaze will help fill that in. It always gives the pieces an overall color.
Body stain and sealing are beautiful.🎉
Thank you 😊
Great work! your technique is detailed, meticulous, with excellent results. I didn't know furniture with the design of the Palacio do Planalto in Brasilia, Brazil. The curvilinear and elegant lines of the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer made history in Brazilian architecture and marked an era in the 50s and 60s. Do you know who made this furniture?
The manufacturer is Broyhill. I'm not a huge Brasilia fan so I do not know all the details. But I do think people get confused of the designer and concept origin.
@@MadManRestorations The origin of this design comes from the front arches of the Alvorada Palace, the official residence of Brazilian presidents in Brasilia. The architect designed several official buildings from the 50s and 60s, but these arches are unique, not repeated in any of his other projects. I found on Facebook a group of lovers of this line of furniture, passionate about the design reproduced in furniture.
Well done!! I just uploaded my latest refinishing video and working on my next 👍🏻😀
Beautiful! I’ve been looking at getting away from box store products. Mohawk products seem like the way to go
They are! People may think they are pricey but the results speak for themselves. The consistency and quality is far superior.
So good. Thanks for all your videos. Love Mohawk products, but I've never used their wiping stain. Do you know how it compares to Old Masters?
It's very easy to use. It does not make the wood blotchy or accentuate scratches like oil based stains.
Awesome video my friend, I picked up a bottle of qcs with your promo code. Hope the kickback helps 🙂
Sure! I've been a user of QCS from the beta testing. It's a great product. Gary and his team are really doing something special.
This video helps a lot!!
At 4:35, why do you use scraper to remove the finish? Why don’t use QCS as well? 🤔
Can I use QCS instead of scrapper?
Different tools for different scenarios. I love QCS and value it's use. But when the finish is flaking I find it easier to scrap. It also saves in QCS which I can use one another project.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Removing old contact paper is like trying to get rid of a tattoo.
Hahaha. Great analogy!!
First of all, I love your work. You're the best in the business! However, I am curious as to why you used stain instead of toned lacquer? Wouldn't toned lacquer be accurate to this piece? Thanks and I look forward to your response.
The goal is to get the color right. This way insures you get Brasilia color.
@@MadManRestorationswill this be refinishable in the future? My goal is to preserve my vintage pieces for at least another generation. Thanks
@@ninth6655 following these steps will ensure this piece was last another 60 years.
You said the QCS is great for the curved doors - what is the advantage of scraping the finish off the flat parts instead of using QCS there too?
TBH it all depends how I'm feeling. Sometimes I like to save product by using the scraper especially if the finish is very brittle like it was on this top.
Do you just put toner on the ash wood or do you vinyl coat it and glaze it as well? Thanks, Tim
Vinyl sealer then toner. Glaze the whole piece then lacquer.
Do you have a list of the products you used - and an affiliate link?
I do not have an affiliated link. But if you send me an email I would be more than happy to help you out. I'm pretty I showed all the products I used in the video.
Lane was not expensive furniture. That is why the wood variations.
Yes, most MCM furniture was mass produced. They is why there are cheaper woods with more expensive veneers on the same piece. That is why the color is matched using stain, toner, and glazes.
Why didn’t you just fix the corner with veneer?
You could do that. But finding an exact match can be difficult. I find I get better results inpainting.
All the wrong finding Brasilia all over the place lately. When I say wrong, I mean people who own more than one shade of chalk paint and an orbital sander.
Thank you for not painting any of that beautiful piece! Nice work!
Thanks. You will never see me use chalk paint 😂
Thank you so much for talking in this video. I cannot stand the furniture videos where there's no speaking.
I don't have a very soothing voice. But thank you.
@MadManRestorations actually I've now watched other videos and you do talk. Much better
