- In this video I will restore classic Estonian china cabinet, that was mistreated by somebody. That model was popular in 1920 -1940 era, so they are pretty common even now. This one has fancy
beveled glasses and nice walnut veneer. In 1950' s, the design changed and also materials were much cheaper.

When I was young I lived above my grandfather and grandmother's pub. They and my father and mother also lived up there. The pub had a U-shaped bar for 20 people. Once a year the bar was repainted with the varnish that is also used for wooden boats. Quite a hard layer of lacquer. I helped my grandfather remove the varnish layer with small glasses. You could see cigarette burns all over the bar. Sanding and 3 coats of lacquer. You can imagine that your hands hurt from scratching whit those little glasses.
Always nice to see old furniture to be repaired. Soo much beauty compared what they make now. Just like that new architecture: unimaginative
From junk to a museum piece. As a restoration woodworker myself, this was was an immensely satisfying project to watch.
Do you remove varnish with a sandong machine too?
Ahti, that was beautiful. It looked cheap before, and a gorgeous antique after. Your restorations are a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing this.
Another beautiful piece of furniture saved by Ahti, after being botched by a bad restoration job before. Shows real knowledge, experience, skills, patience and attention to detail. A pleasure to watch.
It’s so weird how satisfying it is to watch you put on the varnish 😅! Your work is impeccable. Every time you post a new video I can’t wait to watch it! Thanks for sharing your craftsmanship!
I actually learned more just now than my entire life when it comes to restoring real wood furniture. THANK YOU.
I've seen hundreds of woodwork videos on TH-cam, this man's work is top notch, the best of all.
After the beautiful and perfect restoration this cabinet is ready for more than two centuries ahead. Well done!
It was great to see an antique restored to its former glory. I'm a true lover of antiques. It breaks my heart to see someone paint them just so they "fit" into whatever the style of the hour, day, month or year is. Thanks for bringing this beautiful piece back to life!
What a fantastic restoration!! I ADORE Art Deco, it's one of my favorite styles, and you did a wonderful job bringing this beauty back to life! I drooled over the beveled glass a bit, tbh. Thanks for another great video Ahti!❤❤
Sooo refreshing to watch a restorstion done so well, rather than a beautiful piece being trashed with paint. ❤
That was stunning! So nice to see a master at work...and to learn. (^.^)
I've used several of your techniques while working on a 1940's desk. It won't be anywhere near as good a job as you do, but will be perfect for my yarn.
Thanks again for posting!
Your color matching skills are phenomenal. I am so glad to see that you allowed the walnut to be highlighted. Staining the oak (lesser wood) darker like it was originally made all the difference. Congratulations on another beautiful job!
Sir, you are truly amazing & your knowledge is outstanding! Thank you for posting again. We miss you when we don’t get videos.
I promise, the next videos will be interesting and worth waiting.
Once again Ahti, you have turned a "scrap of wood" in a piece of Art. What I particulary like in your work, this is the cleverness you put in each part of your restorations. You observe a lot before doing anything. You have a deep respect for the pieces which enter in your shop, whatever are their value. Bravo for your work of love and passion. A pleasure to watch you at work indeed :-)

Restoration is a thing of beauty. You made it a work of art.
I've had some experience of fixing damaged furniture, for friends, but the restoring and finishing of damaged veneers is a welcome revelation.
Thanks!
I can imagine: Junior comes home from school (he is a freshman in high school) all enthused about wood shop. His semester assignment is to redo an old piece of furniture at home. Proud parents allow Junior to "redo" grandma's old hutch. The only caveat is that he can't paint it. Dad has a drill sander and there's that old varnish in the shed, so Junior is all set. It looks good enough when done (almost), but proud parents and Junior think it's fine. Hence it comes to you many years later in the beginning condition. Thank goodness you have a TH-cam channel to show us how it's done. I redid my mother's sewing machine cabinet that had blistered varnish from being too close to a fire. Mine turned out better than this, but not by much, about 60 years ago. So I speak with firsthand knowledge about Junior. North Carolina, USA
Lovely to see this beauty brought back to life in the hands of a pro. Thank you for the *many* hours of detailed recording & editing (that intro was funny) I'm always impressed with your fine results, Ahti. 👍
Athi, you're the best. I watch every video, it is so beautiful to see you working on old furniture with so much love. Thank you for being you.❤
A Masterpiece restoration! A marvelous, majestic piece gained another 100 years of life! Thanks so much for sharing
Excellent work! It's so nice to see older furniture brought back to life. 👍
Outstanding as always, you are without question a true master of your craft, thank you for sharing.
The Love for your Craft shows on Everything you do. Your Historical Knowledge on Antique furniture and how to apply the repairs accurately are Amazing! You make it look so damn easy and I know it's not.
As a trade qualified French polisher in in awe of your attention to detail and patience with this restoration. This is the first of your content I have watch and I'm sure now that I've subscribed, I will be watching plenty more. Keep up the good work.
You let shine the beauty of this wonderful furniture! Great job as usual!

Fantastic work. Love watching you save and rescue all these wonderful pieces. ❤❤❤
It was really very pleasant to see how you could detect the flaws in the old restoration and correct them, leaving the furniture imposing and beautiful again. In Brazil, my country of origin, carnauba wax is often used to finish. Thank you very much for making my Saturday more beautiful, Ahti. Bravo!👏👏🌷
Thank you very much!
It's great to watch a master restoring a beautiful piece of furniture.
Love the molding of the escutcheons. Lovely touch.
Aside from missing pieces it didn’t look that bad to start. Watching you work I realized it was in worse condition than I thought. The finished piece is amazing. Such an improvement. I especially liked the use of silicone and epoxy to recreate missing pieces.
I voted for you. This video was imposing and extraordinary. Congratulations and thanks for sharing your moments with us. 🎉👏🌷
Thanks to my most devoted fan! ;)
@@ATRestoration, always welcome!
All those sanding marks in the wood make me want to cry 😭
Ouch...! That cabinet was in pain. Good thing your client entrusted it to your expert hands.
Have a good Father's Day and a good weekend :)
Fathers Day is in June...?
@@GeminiWoods Maybe it is where you live. In Estonia it's this weekend.
@@bamereg Ah, interesting. Did not know that
Beautiful veneer... Must have taken time to sand out all the toolmarks. Let's remember before we judge that not all people have the money to take such a piece to a pro restorer.
But an angle grinder?
@@lauralake7430 A cheap 40 grit sanding disc at high speed will give the exakt same marks. And who knows what was there that needed sanding ?
Truly beautiful. Thank goodness the “refresher” didn’t do permanent damage.
Very nice restoration. I'm sure your client was very happy with the results of your hard work. Congratulations!!
That walnut is beautiful!
What a difference a Master Craftsman makes. 👏 ⭐️
Another mega restoration, and my favourite period (art deco). Would love a cabinet like that but it is great to see these being so lovingly restored. Great job.
Excellent craftsmanship!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This piece turned out beautifully! I’m not a huge fan of that era furniture, but this turned out so well! Love it!
Having watched quite a few restoration 'specialists' of late, that made me cringe, It was a real joy and delight to watch you at work, Ahti. Thank you for sharing with us 🥰
This may be the best transformation, yet! I really appreciate your ability to match color & making the escutcheons! Wow!
It is always a pleasure to see your restoration projects.
Love your videos! Watching poor mistreated GOOD furniture beingt restored to its natural beauty is wonderful to watch!
I love the beautiful wood grain that you have revealed!
Wow the cabinet looks great now! Thank you for sharing your art! 🗝️
Ahti, as always, I am in awe of your talent, and your skills. Only YOU could have brought this piece back to it's original perfection. Bravo!!!!
That was amazing, as much as I love watching you use all your carpentry skills, and machines to restore, to just watch you bring the beauty of the wood out was fantastic. That walnut door was just beautiful how it appeared. Thanks for another great video Ahti. Plus it was perfect end to my holiday, the chance to watch an AT restoration on the plane home lol😂❤
Your restoration of the piece is the difference between a master craftsman and an idiot. Excellent restoration 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Be safe🇨🇦
So glad to see you uploaded a masterpiece.
Your work is amazing.
I have seen similar pieces, your attention to detail and history is superb. Thank You for sharing this !
*Remarkable, transcendent transformation...from a sad little shabby cabinet to an elegant, elite museum piece anyone would be proud to own❣️💜🤎*
What a gorgeous piece of furniture. Art Deco is my favourite period and this restoration was stunning. I especially loved the bevelled glass in the top part. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.
When you show in the beginning of a video what's wrong, damaged or someone has messed up with a piece then say "Lets make it right" it's always a bit of a thrill because I know I'm in for a great time watching you skillfully and with good humor do just that. And because I know how beautiful the piece will be when you're done, even when you most often exceed my expectations. Thank you.
Please show the finished piece from a distant at the end of video and for a longer time period. I find many restorer channels often don’t showcase the before-and-after in its entirety long enough for viewers to appreciate all the work they did. Beautifully done.
Ahti, you do wonderful restorations! Thank you! I am watching all of the restorations that you have done. Amazing.
Sooooo Beautiful!! I Love this kind of style of furniture!! You a master craftsman & restorer!! Happy that you found this baby & made her Gorgeous again!!❤❤❤

Absolutely splendid restoration! You gave a truly remarkable piece back its pride!
I was very happy to see a new vlog from you. Of course another old wore piece brought back to its original beauty..... Hello 👋🏻 from Southern California 🌴 Annette V
My favorite channel for furniture restoration....BY FAR. Why? No unnecessary talking. It's actually relaxing to watch you work. Thank you. I have a question: what is the "spirit" you sometimes use?

What a beautiful cabinet. It looks almost new, like it could have been in someone's house for a few years. Great work, as always.
Wow. Simply beautiful.
