I once had two tortoiseshell cats at the same time. They were sisters. Iris, and Rose. Sadly they both have passed away, but will never be forgotten. ❤
Sorry for your loss. I had to smile, since I too had a long haired tortie named Iris. I got her as a four week old kitten, out of the Iris bed at my MIL's house. She just ran to me and I took her home. She too has since passed.
@Rags2Itches sorry for your loss, too. I think the story of how you found your little fur flower is so sweet! 😍 Ours were actually born into the family. Their mom came to us pregnant, and we ended up keeping her and her babies.
@@SirSonic900 Thankyou for doing so. MIL had a stray cat group living under her house. Last 3 kittens were a day old. Neighbors dog killed the mama cat. I was only able to save one of the day old kittens that were in a medium sized clay flower pot that was on it's side. Topaz is now 7 yrs old and still thinks I'm her mother. Our 3 other cats are strays too.
My son's tortie is Motley. She is feisty, definitely has tortitude. Apparently she jumped to his lap and insisted he adopt her, he was totally conned. He and his wife spoil her to bits, she is a princess
Tortitude is real. I have multiple cats and had 1 tortie. i always assumed her personality was just "her". Then I got another tortie and she has the exact same personality and attitude.
I had a tortie for nearly 21 years (my profile picture). Sadly, she passed away about 3 years ago. She was so easy going and loving to us and the other cats. She will never be forgotten and will always be loved.❤
I had a tortie that I got from a friend when she was 9 years old. She lived to be 19 years old and gave me 10 years of joy. She was definitely a diva. I still miss her a lot.
This is so cool to know! My rescue tortie is 12 now, and the last rescue cat I had lived to be 21; that's why I thought the earlier remark that they have an 'average' lifespan of 12-14 years was a bunch of Bullhonkus-Marior (similar to BS: balogne sauce). Now, let's find out if that will get a response from 'Oooooogle's kuh-MYOOOON-nutty guidelines. 🤯🤬🧟♀
I’ve had both Calicoes and Torties…they are just so loving! But I’m a cat person and I’ve had great experiences with every color. I’ve been rescuing cats for 53 years.
I have a Tortie. Her name is Turtle. She definitely has Tortitude. She thinks she is the queen around here. She lived in our back yard for about a year and then one day decided to move in. She tells me when it's bedtime and as I get ready for bed she is on the bed following, swatting and meowing as I walk past until I finally climb into bed. She is also a bed hog.
Our tortie gets grouchy when it’s time for her to go to sleep. I say come on, it’s bedtime, and she comes over and I have to pick her up and carry her to her bedroom-my office, where she gets a quick snack and goes to sleep. I have to close the door to get he to sleep. She howls in the morning and I let her out.
My 3 year old Tortie named Bailey has an extreme “tortietude”. She is an instigator of mischief and an escape artist. She has learned to open screen doors and catio door latches. We sometimes call her Houdini. She entertains our household so there’s never a dull moment.
I had an old cat named Luna, and she was the definition of tortitude! Even though she was kind of sassy and a "hissy" kind of a girl, when you really got to know her, she was very, very sweet. She died last year at the age of 19. I loved her so much❤
Yeah, Chocky wasn't bonding to anyone and they thought she wasn't right for any families. She tried to eat a couple guys as a kitten. But at 4 months...Angoras are large breed cats...met my hubby and instant LOVE. Now we have the snuggle fluffy. But she DID try and eat my husband's cousin's ex bf. She knew he was bad BEFORE everyone else did. Cats KNOW.
@@rochelleiscanadianI love that story! That’s exactly how my son’s tortie responded to his longtime girlfriend… detested her from the start, as the rest of us did 😼 Thank God the awesome cat outlasted the awful girlfriend!
@@bunnyduncan Cats are great indicators of a person's character! I had one that would poop in whatever boyfriend-du-jour's shoes, but when I met my husband, she was all purrs and head rubs! T\Always trust the cat!
@@bunnyduncan Actually, I vowed to listen to my cat when I decided to date again after my divorce. My parents cat hated my ex husband. We married young while I was in university. Absolute disaster. So, my cat Spazz, who detested men, who attacked my last bf in his sleep...He was a jerk, and the cat was a kitten, was ofc right...was my new security force. Now HUGE and 15 pounds of Mummy's fuzzy man. I invited my NOW hubby over for tea, and the first guy in 7 years. Spazz walks over, sits in his lap and begins to purr. Shock!! They became instant best friends and Spazz lived 15 more years. His Daddy showered him with new toys every week and let him drink from his coffee. He STILL misses his "Spazzy Boy." Tell your son to let the cat to choose his soul mate. 100% Spazz cat guaranteed. 👍❤🇨🇦
I used to have a long-haired, diluted tortie, who passed away earlier this year. She was the cutest, fluffiest, and sweetest little girl, squeaking instead of meowing.
We have 2 torties. They were feral kittens that we adopted from our neighborhood. One, we even called "Squeaker" as a kitten. Her real name became Love Bug, but she still squeaks!
I had a tortie who definitely had tortitide. I had to put her down at 14 or 15 yrs old when she got weak and blind. So hard to do that, and took me 2+ years to learn to live with it. 💗Torties
I can relate to the love for the uniqueness of the tortitude, as well as the loss of such a special pet. I’ve fostered a lot of cats over the years, but I definitely have a soft spot for Torties! When my son was a teenager, we had a litter of foster kittens, and the Tortie of the litter instantly bonded with him. He named her Baby, because she was the runt of the litter. She was so in love with him, she’d run to the door whenever she heard his car come up the street, and literally jump into his arms when he opened the door, and when he showered, she’d sit on top of the hamper waiting for him. She was with him through his high-school and college years, and into his early 20’s. It took a long time to recover from that loss, but swears he’ll never have anything other than a Tortie. He divides his time between Amsterdam and California for business now, but when he’s back home full time, the first thing he’s going to do is adopt a new Tortie 😻
i’ve been caring for a stray tortie i named reese’s. i’ve now gained her trust fully and she went from never coming close to me to letting me pick her up and hold her without any resistance at all. my current apartment doesn’t allow pets so i’m moving in hopes of taking her with me and becoming her forever mom. i love love love her
I am a firm believer in Tortitude.A pregnant stray showed up on my porch. She blessed me with 4 fuzzy meatballs. She threw all of my cats out while she was nursing. Just a bit feisty.
I had a Tortoise cat named Lady, she passed away in 2019. She was such a sweetheart and was always there to support us and loved belly rubs. Funny enough, she had one small white spot on her chest and a small white tip on the tip of her tail. Everything else was black and orange/yellowish. Still miss my sweetheart to this day
I have had 3 torties in my life. Two out of three definitely had tortitude. The other I would say had a “strong “ personality. Two were quite vocal. One has a sense of humor. All were loved. ❤
I have a tortie who is 1 and half year old. She is the most sweat gentle trusting cat I’ve ever owned. She is timid and shy and would running away to hide whenever we have visitors but when it is just my family members home she would pour all her love on us. I feel so lucky to have earned her trust from the very beginning.
Tortitude is a VERY real thing!! 😅 I adopted 2 little rescues that came from an abandoned house, after a hoarding situation, in May last year, after losing my 22.5 yr old little lady to cancer in April. 😢 My heart was absolutely broken. It was just me and her, after her mother died in 2016, & after both my adult kids moved out. She was my kids childhood cat. Adopting my 2 little orphan sisters, was the best thing I did. I miss Shadow so much, but life does go on, and these 2 were in desperate need of a home. One is a beautiful Bombay (mum or dad had to have been also), and then...there's my very fluffy, gorgeous little long hair tortie with a kink at the end of her tail from a break when she was very little. While my 'Bombie' is a little shy and pretty quiet, she's incredibly sweet and an affecionate little mellow snuggle bug!! ❤ Her Tortie sister on the other hand, is EXTREMELY vocal..I say 'musical' 😅 and very much knows what she does and does not want! While not being a fan a being held (she tolerates me, lol) she is a very bonded affecionate little head booper, and is constantly under foot (the reason she ended up with a broken tail, I'm sure, either by actually tripping someone, or not being noticed going through a door behind someone & getting the tip jammed? If there is a single wee or poop I am yet to discover & scoop (in only 1 of the 2 side by side litter trays) her protests are delivered on the floor, beside the offending tray, despite being 95% clean, & a completely 100% clean one next to it! 😂 She is constantly trilling, and singing, & non stop chatting. Despite my Bombie, Phoebe, now doubling her size since I got them when roughly 8-10 mths old, in May 2022., she, my firey little Freyja had remained very small under all the floof. Despite being smaller, she's always the instigator in play fighting. Phoebe is beyond patient with her, and is like a little mumma to a very rebellious & rogue wild child. 😅 Their antics absolutely keep me laughing out loud, every non snuggling, waking moment. She constantly carries her toy mice around & every day when I come home from work, there's a pile of all their toys ..on my bed. I am yet to see Phoebe do more than bat one around while playing. They are hands down, the best things in my daily life, and I am so glad I could give them an uncaged life, full of the love they deeply deserve, and that they got to stay together. Their different personalities beautifully balance each other out, but if theirs ever any 'mischief', I know EXACTLY which one is responsible, because... tortitude, IS a *_very_* real thing!!!! 😂❤ From Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺
Well in regards to the litter boxes... She may hate the kind of litter you are using. But first I would not keep two litter boxes in the same area. You need to move one of them. Also, I would add a litter mat under each box so that as they come out they can wipe off their feet and will collect litter from their little toes rather than it ending up in your carpeting or whatever. Do not use strong scented cleaners when you clean out the box. The box does not have to be entirely disinfected. Their scent should remain. So I just use Dawn Powerwash and water. Only use a little of the soap so as not to overpower their own cat scent from the box. This helps to keep them litter box trained.
Recently had to have our precious tortie put down at age 18. She was VERY loving and sweet, no "tortitude!' I would not hesitate to get another tortie in the future as she was one of the 2 most sweet cats I have ever had!! (The other sweetest one was black and white, both females.) Rest in peace, Miette! we will always remember and miss you!! Dave'swife
My first kittie was a tortie named Sassy that I adopted for my 6th B-Day. She passed away 13yrs ago in March at almost 15yrs old. She was such a sweetheart and my best friend. Miss her everyday. Hope to adopt another tortie oneday.
I have a tortie cat. My niece found her as stray & gave her to me. Her name is Princess Freya Busybody. And she’s earned EVERY ONE of those names! She’s quite the grumpy, persnickety little girl, and I love her to bits!!
I rescued my little tortie, Reeses, when she was a kitten 9 years ago. I work with the developmentally disabled. When I showed up at the group home I was working at one night, she greeted me on the porch. I was early so I spent a few minutes with her. She stayed on the porch all night and kept coming in the front door to find me. Needless to say she came home with me that morning. When I am home she is either in my lap or laying next to me most of the time. When she wants to play (which is at least twice a day), she 'cries' in front of me and/or nibbles my feet to tell me it is time! She's my world.
We adopted ours when she was a kitten from a shelter. She was skin and bones. One could put her in a pants pocket. She grew to be a healthy happy and agressive bundle of joy...
We had a tortoiseshell for 5 years and 3 months. She went missing one week ago, and we have not seen her since. She was indoor outdoors but stayed pretty close to the house most of the time. In this hot summer, you could usually find her napping on the covered patio. We can’t imagine what happened to her. She was the sweetest cat ever and had a squeaky voice like someone else said about their tortie. She was beautiful and we miss her so much.
That's interesting that they are considered lucky. Our torbie continues to be the most timid and shy cat we have had. She hid for 2 and 1/2 days when she first came to us it took her some months to be really comfortable. She was a rescued a stray and I wonder if she was feral or had been abused. She is very sweet.
Bev, I can tell you after fostering cats for 20+ years, that your sense that your kitty was either feral or abused is probably spot on; she was most likely born to a feral cat. One of my fosters was a very young, tiny pregnant cat. She appeared to be from a feral colony, and was extremely skittish and timid. She had five beautiful kittens, and we adopted her and the itty-bitty runt of her litter. Although her kitten, named Bailey, was affectionate and did all the things domesticated cats do - purring, kneading, seeking out attention, curling up in my lap - her mother, whom we named Pinky, due to her pink nose and beans, didn’t even purr for nearly two years! It took her even longer to seek attention or offer affection. We’ve had her for more than five years now, and even though she now sleeps as close to me as she can possibly get, she won’t allow us to rub her belly, which is very common with previously feral cats, because exposing their belly is a very vulnerable position. I’m glad you have such a sweet little Tortie girl, and it sounds like you have a really good instinct about her and her needs. I hope you have many years of companionship with her 😻
@@bunnyduncan Our girl Claire, was over 1 when we adopted her. When she was out and about in our house after we first adopted her, she played for such long periods of time without a break, well over an hour. She really loved our toys. She now comes to our bed in the morning, with quiet cries and wants pets. She walks over us and may settle on us for half a minute, then off she goes. But when my husband sleeps in, she'll lie off to his side. Sometimes when she's resting, and we come up, she gets in a cute position showing her belly and wants pets, and even seems to like us to rub her belly. Occasionally she settles on a lap for a short snuggle. But if you move too fast or bump into her, she goes off in a hurry. She takes a while to come out of hiding after we have visitors. We are still seeing slight improvements in her after 1 1/2 years.
My son has two torties. They are both rescues from the animal shelter at different times, so they are not sisters. Cinnamon is very outgoing and playful. Tassie is very shy and like your cat it took a couple of months for her to relax. I love my torti grandcats lol.
I’ve shared my home with several tortoiseshell cats, currently tortie #5. I was delighted to learn that “tortitude” is real. I never had a name for it and just chalked it up to being orange! They are the best, most loving cats, when they want to be.
Our cat Chocky has MAJOR tortitude. We call her our Diva cat. She is definitely good luck and very protective. I like to make jokes she also protects us from monsters under the bed and the closet and the Big Bad Dark. TBH she is the best caregiver when anyone doesn't feel good or you've had a bad day. Tortie Angora cats are great family cats.✌❤🇨🇦
I was wondering if--within 'Oooooooogle's kuh-MYOOOOON-nitty luidegines if it's still o.k. to call her a pussy cat? (or, would they prefer calling her a 'snatch'-cat? just curious.🙈🙉🙊💩🤡
I have a rescue tortie named Pandora, Pandy for short, and she is the spunkiest little thing and very affectionate. She is my emotional support animal and always comes and snuggles with me when I’m sad or upset. Best kitty.
I love my Tortie, Teena. She has Tortitude. Lots of tortitude.❤ I'm thrilled to hear Edgar Allan Poe loved Torties. I have an orange and white cat named Edgar Allan Purr and a tuxie named Raven, after his poem.
I love my little Torrie. She showed up on my patio when she was about three months old. She owns the house now and her tortitude makes me laugh every day.
Great & informative video. I love all cats and tortoiseshell cats are one of my absolute favorite cats. They are beautiful and I've owned several. My "Boo-boo" was the most AWESOME tortoiseshell cat I've ever had. Amazingly smart & wise, she was sweet & lots of fun. With 2 of her liters of kittens, she provided me with some of the most amazing cats I've ever had & been greatly blessed to share my life with. Boo-boo is gone now and not a day goes by without me wishing she and her incredible daughter were still here with me. They'll never be two cats quite like "Boo-boo" and "Girl." 🐈🐈⬛🥰 I LOVE & MISS them with all of my heart.❤️❤️
Yup, my dilute calico/tortie/caliby/mosaic/bridled AND patched/torbie has "tortitude." Most of the upper parts of my girl are the patches of gray and soft orange, with some mingling of the two. Her underside is pure white, including boots to the heels and mittens with a "string" connecting them to her chest fur, making it look like she's wearing a gray sweater that ends high on her body with long sleeves, stripy orange patches on both sides of her ribs, mostly gray "pants," with brindling down her spine and tail. She has a white and orange dagger on the gray hood that covers most of her face, other than one pale orange lip and her white chin. She is beautiful. And a guard cat. She knows what space I claim as mine, even when we live in a shared living space, and will protect it from those who do not live in our home while I am away. If I'm home, she trusts me to ward off those who don't belong, and keep watch over those I invite in. Found out about this from a frequent guest who invaded our room while I was at work. Two days later, she was still quaking in her shoes at the hostility my torti showed her for invading our room. Because she was still quaking, I was amused. "You're lucky you're still wary of her, or I'd be mad." After all, she had no legal right to break into my room. My beautiful girl is 14 years old now, and still going strong. Her favorite way to demand affection from me is to circle me and throw herself down in my path, making sharp, demanding meows at me until I rub her belly. If I fail to do so, she will continue to make demanding meows until I surrender the petting and patting of her belly. Very silly, very sweet... to me. Very few others are allowed to touch her at all, much less pet her belly. Yes, it's nice knowing that she is particularly fond of me.
@@rocioaguilera3555 Never said I owned her, only that she was mine, in the same way I'm hers. She did, after all, adopt me. Really. Maintenance man at the apartment complex I was living at back then took me to the apartment he'd stashed her in. She strolled out into the main room where we stood, and turned on a turbo purr from across the room. I had one test I put to her, which was if she would let me hold her. She did, for 45 minutes! That's the last time she let me hold her for more than a couple of minutes, let me tell you! But she passed my test, and I agreed to take her into my home. Never heard her growl until she warded off a spirit from making our home its haunt.
Anecdotal "evidence", my tortoiseshell has a definite attitude. I call her my "sour-patch" kid. She is loving and feisty, often within minutes. She goes where I go and sleeps with me. But she is a fire-brand. More to say... but at work at present. :)
I rescued 2 kittens from a local shelter. One was a Tuxedo, the other, all alone in a tiny cage, was the most frightened, saddest, loneliest kitten you ever saw, she has an orange stripe running along her entire nose, a Chimera I believe. Of course, I had to adopt her too. Now 2 years later, they are bonded sisters but the smaller Tortie, "Gizmo" because of her markings, rules the house for sure. Extremely smart, opens up the kitchen cabinet doors while I'm not home, searching for anything to eat or, an entire bag of catnip that she and her sister tore apart on the kitchen floor. 2 monsters for sure but they keep things interesting, the house plants dug up and me loved.
my 2 tortie rescues were in a foster home for almost a year. We were told they were sisters although one was a tortie and the other a torbie. they definitely were bonded.. So we took both. They co-existed with us for a year until my husband passed. Then they stepped up and became my best friends. The torbie did not allow me to touch her the first year but now she is a very loving girl their house manners are perfect, no tortitude. when my blind teacup chihuahua grandog comes to visit,, they watch over him. It was worth waiting a year for their love and companionsjip.
My tortie, Mochi, definitely has Tortitude. She will demand to be petted and will meow at you non stop if you don't comply. Pets are rewarded with the shaky tail and groomies
I have a sweet, beautiful and healthy Tortie girl myself! Her name is Karma, the more I've spoiled her the sweeter she has become and now she is one of the sweetest kitties I've ever met. In fact she loves me so much, she lets me cuddle with her and lets me pet her belly.
Wow. This info on torties & all is fascinating! So this cat that adopted me after I heard it crying when it was trapped under the wire mesh that covered my neighbor's roof's gutters isn't a tortie after all because she has a tiny spot of white fur on her chest. I guess that means she's a tortico.
Ive had a tortoiseshell for almost 7 years. She has plenty of tortitude that's for sure but is also my shadow/ sidekick. Loves to play with strings and will provoke you to play. She greets everyone she meets.
We live in a rural area and happenstanced upon a feral female tortoiseshell kitten about 8 years ago. Had her desexed and examined by a bet and never had a cat like her. She walks with us each morning for a kilometre, won’t do her toilet duties without us on that walk, still bites when lying down but otherwise just a love, doesn’t like other people, is my partners best friend when in bed and mine in daylight hours, has a small fingernail size bit of peanut paste and a drink of oat milk each morning and thinks sleeping next to the wood heater is tops. When younger, jumping from a reasonably high position from tree to tree over a short distance like a flying squirrel was her favourite trick. One affectionate movement Pepper does is to stand on her hind legs and demand to be petted when first greeted. She is a great companion and we love her. WARNING: Cats can choke on peanut paste.
My tortie Lucy is the sweetest most lovable cuddle bug ever. She loves to talk to me like her mom and brother and loves to hold my hand and touch my face.🥰💜
I have a Female chymira Tortoise cat with "Catatude"!!!! But I also have a Male Calico Cat with "Catatude" LoL 😂😂😂 TFS... Great video 🥰🦋🌻🫂💚 Have a Wonderful Weekend
@@hensleydodson5733 I'm very much greatful for my lil kitties I also have a Tuxedo Cat and I have 2 full black cat's. Spice is the tortie, Mystic is the tuxedo, Saffron is the Calico, an Gramma Willow & Timber are the Black 🐈⬛ cat's 🥰
I have a five year old Tortie, GG (Good Girl) Bergstedt. She was the Only Tortie in her litter. She is Faithful, Loving and Beautiful, with her mixed coat, beige nose, one beige leg and "Tuxedo" front. She was born feral, but, I have shamelessly spoiled her with a stainless water fountain/feeder, stainless " toilet", 5 scratch stations, 2 cat beds, every toy imagined, she only likes "dry" cat food, but she LOVES Churu and cat treats. She will not bite, hiss, scratch or growl... unless threatened. She knows her name, she follows commands... basically the BEST cat I've EVER had in my 50+ years. I have Many people who want her if something happens to me. Sorry....TMI...I just love sharing my luck having her with everyone. ❤😻 11:12
Our tortie, Oni, definitely has tortitude. She hisses if she doesn’t get her way. She doesn’t like too much petting. However she is the sweetest cat. She knows when you’re feeling blue or sick and stays by your side through the ick. She’s a talker too. Our Oni is very energetic and intelligent. She loves to dance. She’s a Maine Coon. I also call her Sweetpea.
You have the best of both worlds… a Maine Coon AND a Tortie in one sweet cat! The fact that she loves to dance is like the cherry on top 😻 One of our cats is a Maine Coon, and although he’s not a Tortie, he is by far the chattiest of our cats, which is a characteristic of Maine Coons. His name is Little Bear, and was orphaned at just a few days old during the Napa County wildfires in 2015, and came to us as a special-needs foster. He was a chatty little spitfire, and I was so bonded with him, I decided to adopt him after fostering him for four months. In fact, four of our five cats were initially fosters, which makes me a bit of a ‘foster failure,’ because once they’re old enough and healthy enough, you’re supposed to return them to the shelter to be placed for adoption. As each new foster comes into our home, Bear can’t wait to groom, cuddle, and play with them. His attention and affection for these little guys gives them confidence and emotional support that cats can only get from other cats, despite all the love and care we humans provide. He’s proven to be a priceless co-foster cat-parent (sorry for the wordy term I just made up on the fly 😹) which is why we’ve ended up adopting so many of our fosters. I wish you and Oni Sweetpea many years of chatty companionship 😽
@@bunnyduncan Thank you so much! Yes we love her. Maine Coons are the best! Little Bear seems to be a fitting name for such a bright, loving cat. They remind me of bears, lol. How cute. Little Bear seems like he is very brave. I’m glad he chose your family. I hope much love and happiness continues for him and your entire cat family and human family! I’m sorry it took so long to respond to your kind message. Many blessings from Missouri.
I have 2 torties, a mom and her kitten. Funny, I recently called them "divas"...they rule the roost, and keep my Aussie Shepherd in line!! 😂 Thank you for all the info; found your video to be very informative 👍
my tortoiseshell, Annanella is a beautiful cat and she is quite spicy. she was born with an orange tabby who I named Lillian, but sadly she passed away at six weeks old. their mother queen is Giovanna but she is more close to a half calico half tortie due to her white patches. another great video! I really enjoyed it and learned new facts about these cats. Thanks for posting❤️🐈⬛
Miss Cassie is my second Tortie. I was on a waiting list with Cat Rescue to get her. I’ve had Calicos and many others, but there is nothing like a sassy Tortie! It’s all about that Tortitude,
Our sweet Tortie has some tabby markings. She is incredibly affectionate-on her own terms- like most cats. She has Tortitude especially when outside. We’ve seen her interacting with deer several times!
I had two kittens like this. While one was a true tortie the other was more to the calico side. The tortie was actually calmer while the smaller calico was fiery indeed. I remember reaching down to pet her once when she was a kitten and she sprang up and wrapped herself around my arm and started biting me. This became her usual greeting 😄
My wife had a 13 year old tortie when we met. It was love at first sight and my wife still accuse me of stealing her. She passed at 19 and even though she will never be able to be replaced i will always have to have a tortie in my life. Best cats ever.
My Fern is almost 6 months old so I’m learning more about her. She’s my first indoor cat. She’s the sweetest girl. Absolute best little furry best friend. No bad attitude at all.
My mother raised purebred champion Manx cats back in the 1950s and 60's, and her cats were ancestors of many purebred Manx today. She gave them all Gaelic names. One tortoiseshell, Morrigan, was memorable. Much later, as an adult, I had one or her descendants, another tortie, Pooka. They both were kooky and feisty. As for weird tortie markings, a recent neighbor's cat was quite amazing, nostly black in front, with bright orange hind legs. I called her Miss orange pants.
My 3 year old tortie, Deja, definitely has tortitude! She's feisty, demanding, and will allow no other cats in her territory! Yet she is also sweet, cuddly, and always at my side. She's also an excellent hunter.
I loved a neighbor's rescue Tortie, she always visited me. I called her Callie. The neighbor may of tried dumping her in my apt and at the time I live in a place where the landlord hated cats. Torties and Calicos are beautiful. I owned 3 calicos in my life. Loved them
"tortitude". I believe it. About 8 months ago we moved Into a house that had a "stray" tortice shell (believed to be male but haven't confirmed beyond the vet saying the previous owner of the house may have brought it in a while ago) and this cat, now named Jasper certainly can have a bit of attitude at times. He's generally good (has put on a good amount of weight too) swipes occasionally when my hand is concidered too In front of his face, sometimes will randomly attack (the other day his claw got caught on my sock when he took a swipe) but he will also usually claim my chest as his seat while I'm laying on the couch. In fact he's claimed my chest since the beginning really which is fine except when I'm trying to read or need move. I love my Jassie.😊
I had a tortie Persian, Muffin, who carried the sunshine in her back pocket. She was one of the sweetest on the face of this earth. I think of her everyday even tho she's been in heaven for years.
I once had a tortie and she is just the most affectionate cat I ever had. We named her Mimi cuz she always meows "Miii" so cutely. She was sooo feminine. She died years ago :< However 4 years later, (which is now, btw), it's as if my dearly Mimi came back to me. Another tortie just showed up at our house with her kitties. Because of her resemblance to my former tortie, I named her Mimi, too. She was feisty, and she always carries herself with sass or poise or whatever they cal it, lol. She gets annoyed easily by her kits but she just comes back after her 'cat break' to nurse them and be a loving mom to them again.😂 When I started attending college school, I met another tortie at the campus grounds. She exudes such femininity that I'm convinced I'm such a magnet of such divas!
My Neffi is STRONGLY independent. She doesn't like being held, she moos and growls. She tolerates dogs and tolerates her sister. However when she is in the mood for lovin' she's a drooling, purring furball. She's a great cat
My tortie, Boo, definitely has spunk and sass. Bold too, jumps into the shower with you. Her favorite kitten game was jump and cling; calf, knee cap, foot hanging off bed, or kidney area when sitting on an open back chair. Pops my Aussie on the nose, though she nuzzles up to my pit mix (who is more docile than the Aussie). Best is when she wants to be left alone, eyes will still be closed, but those claws are in full display. Have her trained to give me a high 5 when she wants to be left alone. Also my music buddy. Has to lay on my lap when I play, or else kidney shot. Yet despite perforate organs and shredded skin, she's a loving sweetie the vast majority of the time. Kneads in my beard when cuddling. She purrs so loud, it took my one dog a year to realize she isn't growling.
Great information! A tortoise kitty showed up at my house last night. I live in the middle of almost nowhere. So thankful for her already. It’s like God knew what I needed.
I had two calico cats and one tortie (all females) One of the Calico was the mother the two others were her kitten. The mother and her Calico daughter were really energic, playfull and kinda the "I do whatever I want" type of cats,. they were the queens of the house and they kew it. The tortie one was more calm and more shy (she kinda was my favorite of the kits) she was a little smaller than her siblings but she was a smart one.
Which of these facts about tortoiseshell cats did you find the most interesting? 🐈
The fact that almost all tortoiseshell cats are female.
The "catatude" which my Lucy definitely has! 😼😻
The explanation of the genes!
The genetics. So interesting, thank-you.❤

I once had two tortoiseshell cats at the same time. They were sisters. Iris, and Rose. Sadly they both have passed away, but will never be forgotten. ❤
Wow 27 ! That is amazing for a cat
Love , love black and tortie and calico cats.
I am so sorry to hear that. You kittie looks just like my tortie, who is 14, and the thought that one day she will stop purring makes me so sad.
Wow, she was quite a beauty! Her markings are really stunning and unique; she literally looks like she’s half Tuxedo 😻
I think she was a calico
My profile is also a tortie.
Mine is definitely a Diva.
Can you inform what kind of food did she ate? Wet food? Dry food?
@@elelel157 mostly dry Blue Buffalo.
My beautiful tortie just turned 17 on October 7, she is my everything and always has been a great friend.
Oh my gosh! My Tortie, Hannah, does the same thing. Attacks from under the bed. Funny, tho, she only does it to me.
I loved her so much❤
@@louiseazevedo4544 haha my tortie is also named luna. sweetest lil thing ever :)
My roommate adopted a tortie kitten but the kitten fell in love with me and chose me instead of my roommate so she just gave her to me lol
Awwww💖
Our tortie squeaks too but usually only when certain children try to pick her up.
@@zannbee108 rage squeak confirmed.
We have 2 torties. They were feral kittens that we adopted from our neighborhood. One, we even called "Squeaker" as a kitten. Her real name became Love Bug, but she still squeaks!
I've got a "naughty tortie," and she's just the sweetest little thing. I've never known a more affectionate and caring cat. 😻
That's how my tortie is. She loves anybody, and everybody; that's why I spoil her rotton--rotton-to-the-core!🍱
I had a tortie who definitely had tortitide. I had to put her down at 14 or 15 yrs old when she got weak and blind. So hard to do that, and took me 2+ years to learn to live with it. 💗Torties
I'm sorry 😢 Just remember that quality of life is better than the quantity of life
I can relate to the love for the uniqueness of the tortitude, as well as the loss of such a special pet.
Sorry to hear that. May she rest in peace. 💔🌈
@@berniesully9173I'm sorry for your loss. 😢

I am a firm believer in Tortitude.A pregnant stray showed up on my porch. She blessed me with 4 fuzzy meatballs. She threw all of my cats out while she was nursing. Just a bit feisty.
Torts, like all other cats, are precious treasures. We miss our beloved tort very much.
I had a Tortoise cat named Lady, she passed away in 2019. She was such a sweetheart and was always there to support us and loved belly rubs. Funny enough, she had one small white spot on her chest and a small white tip on the tip of her tail. Everything else was black and orange/yellowish. Still miss my sweetheart to this day
My mom’s cat, Gracie, loved her belly being rubbed
I have had 3 torties in my life. Two out of three definitely had tortitude. The other I would say had a “strong “ personality. Two were quite vocal. One has a sense of humor. All were loved. ❤
My sisters Torti lived to be over 30 years old. She got her when I was five, I was almost 35 when she passed.
I adopted 2 little rescues that came from an abandoned house, after a hoarding situation, in May last year, after losing my 22.5 yr old little lady to cancer in April. 😢
My heart was absolutely broken.
Her Tortie sister on the other hand, is EXTREMELY vocal..I say 'musical' 😅 and very much knows what she does and does not want!
She is constantly trilling, and singing, & non stop chatting.
Their antics absolutely keep me laughing out loud, every non snuggling, waking moment.
From Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺
What a wonderful person you are resting these kittens God Bless you 😊
Recently had to have our precious tortie put down at age 18.
Are you by any chance in chicago ?
So sorry for the loss of your cat. That is always hard when they disappear unexpectantly like that.
So cute
Exactly, I adopted a shelter cat and she hid for two weeks. Now we are best buds,2 years later, she loves her privacy, her space.
They'll never be two cats quite like "Boo-boo" and "Girl." 🐈🐈⬛🥰
I LOVE & MISS them with all of my heart.❤️❤️
Yup, my dilute calico/tortie/caliby/mosaic/bridled AND patched/torbie has "tortitude."
Most of the upper parts of my girl are the patches of gray and soft orange, with some mingling of the two.
You don't own a cat. They own us 😂
@@rocioaguilera3555 Never said I owned her, only that she was mine, in the same way I'm hers.
Princess Pretty Girl!
@@carolgrisham4984 (laughing!) That's what my roommate calls her! And I often call her Princess, but that's not the name I gave her.
I'm curious--were both the torties female, or did you have one of each? if they were the former, perhaps they were Lesbyterians. 🤸
My first Torty, Snaxine, was a Brooklyn street cat, and DEFINITELY had some serious Tortitude! She was a lover AND a fighter. RIP, sweet Snaxine.

I got a Tortie. She's a badass hunter AND a luv bug.

So lovely, wonderful, precious, and adorable.❤❤❤
My torti lived to the age of 18 1/2 years. She was the best and smartest cat ever.
The fact that she loves to dance is like the cherry on top 😻
One of our cats is a Maine Coon, and although he’s not a Tortie, he is by far the chattiest of our cats, which is a characteristic of Maine Coons.
Thank you for all the info; found your video to be very informative 👍
my tortoiseshell, Annanella is a beautiful cat and she is quite spicy.
she was born with an orange tabby who I named Lillian, but sadly she passed away at six weeks old.
their mother queen is Giovanna but she is more close to a half calico half tortie due to her white patches.
another great video! I really enjoyed it and learned new facts about these cats. Thanks for posting❤️🐈⬛
My tortie, Skittles, definitely has tortitude!! ❤🐱
She's a fiery little cat who is rambunctious and a little bit crazy!! 😂😂
I have a tortie like that. Such extreme differences in moods. I call her my furry crackhead
@@forlornhope7121 🤣🤣🤣
OMG! I Thought I Was The Only One Who Called Her Cat a Crackhead!! 🤣🤣🤣
It's So True Though!!! That's Exactly How They Act!!
Miss Cassie is my second Tortie. I was on a waiting list with Cat Rescue to get her. I’ve had Calicos and many others, but there is nothing like a sassy Tortie! It’s all about that Tortitude,
My family and I also fostered a marbled tortoiseshell once, she was called Bindi Sue and she was a biter! She definitely had tortitude!
I have a Tortie girl named Omega and she is feisty! She definitely has some serious Tortitude but I love her dearly! ❤😻
I have a 15 year old tortie and she certainly has a lot of tortietude ^_^ she is a huge diva and doesn't take bs from anyone.
I recently adopted a 10 year old tortie, Missy. She's very sweet and loving, not much tortitude!
My 3 year old tortie, Deja, definitely has tortitude! She's feisty, demanding, and will allow no other cats in her territory! Yet she is also sweet, cuddly, and always at my side. She's also an excellent hunter.
Yes, my tortoiseshell cat, Betty, has Super Tortitude. I love it!
KitKat definitely has tortitude 😂
This is SO informative, thank you as I apply this knowledge to my beautiful Tortie 🙏👏✌️
I once had a tortie and she is just the most affectionate cat I ever had. We named her Mimi cuz she always meows "Miii" so cutely. She was sooo feminine. She died years ago :<
However 4 years later, (which is now, btw), it's as if my dearly Mimi came back to me. Another tortie just showed up at our house with her kitties. Because of her resemblance to my former tortie, I named her Mimi, too. She was feisty, and she always carries herself with sass or poise or whatever they cal it, lol. She gets annoyed easily by her kits but she just comes back after her 'cat break' to nurse them and be a loving mom to them again.😂
When I started attending college school, I met another tortie at the campus grounds.
I have a tortishell cat and she is so sweet and loving ❤
My tortie has never meowed, so she communicates by hissing all the time. But she is my first and so far only "lap cat"
Just goes to show that Poe wasn't just a great writer but not a bad guy.
Thanks...very informative...great photos too.
Great information! A tortoise kitty showed up at my house last night. I live in the middle of almost nowhere. So thankful for her already. It’s like God knew what I needed.
I had two calico cats and one tortie (all females)
One of the Calico was the mother the two others were her kitten.
We have had numerous cats and definitely believe in Tortatude!
My tortie definitely has tortitude! She is my baby and I love her very much!
