If you want some good Texas style steak in Houston, this is your episode! Rockstar Eater continues his Houston food tour by eating at Taste of Texas, which is a legendary steakhouse in Houston. Since 1977, Taste of Texas has been serving up some of the best steaks in town. The steak is dry aged for over 40 days. There are many great cuts here including the T-bone, the tomahawk, and even prime rib! This restaurant also includes an amazing salad bar as part of the meal, and has many great appetizers including the quail bites and crab cakes!

You did great with your review. I discovered this place last summer when I was making my monthly trip for treatments at MDAnderson. I also got the honor of meeting Nina and Ed Hendee the owners. Let me just say that their philosophy makes its way into all their employees…a very fine group of people. Oh yeah, the steaks are awesome!

Taste of Texas is the Walmart of steaks. Try B&B Butchers! They are one of a few restaurants that serve the A5 Wagyu which is the best!!!
Pappas Bros Steakhouse and Tony's are the best private owned places for steak in Houston I think. I heard G. James and Gatsby's are great too.
I live near Houston and this is my favorite restaurant. It's a much better value than Vegas steakhouses. Their salad bar is incredible and it comes with any steak plus a side..no a la carte here.

Fun fact about the Taste of Texas steakhouse, it has one of the largest private collections/exhibits from colonial Texas, the Texas Revolution & the Republic of Texas. Each weekday morning during the school year before their lunch service you will see many yellow school busses parked in the parking lot packed with 4th and 7th graders (that's when children in Texas take Texas History) as Nina & Edd Hendee welcome students from districts far and wide to come in and give students both a tour and a history lesson and the kids get a little something to eat at no cost because they are just good and decent sons and daughters of Texas. So yes patronize the Taste of Texas because those folks sure do give back! Also, they have Cinnamon Blue Bell ice cream, they only make it for them can't get it anywhere else...

I’ve definitely got to tell you Steve Texas, does have good steaks 🥩 than elsewhere. And don’t forget to have the country fried steak or chicken fried steak you don’t want to miss out on that sure !!!

I could see any good working class blue collar person worth their salt saving up all year for a meal just like the one you tucked into. (I'd have to starve for 3 days just to fashion the capacity for it - but hey, delayed gratification brings its own just rewards!)
Everything about this restaurant seemed to me to present and represent a true Americana we don't want to see disappear. (Loved the old rifles on the wall.)
I'm a historian, actually. So one half of my time before the meal would have to be cruising the gallery and taking in the sights. The second half, (after meal) would have to be yakking up a storm with the establishment there, finding out about the history of the restaurant itself, along with its connection to Texas (and American) history, itself.
A meal like this should be and feel like a celebration of the human spirit, let alone the true culinary delight that it is. A feast for the soul.

Living just 5 miles down the freeway we eat here several times a year.
Myself & the housekeeper have birthdays 2 days apart so we go once then &
once at the wife types birthday. Also if someone wants to live large.

Taste of Texas and Perry’s are exceptionally good. If I had to eat my last meal somewhere, it would be at Steak 48. Service at all 3 is great. I need to try Pappa’s Steakhouse. Can’t afford this too often and buy half cow of aged beef from law ranch then put Goode Company mesquite seasoning and Seven Steak red spice on them and grill with lump charcoal. 75% cheaper and 90% as good.

There are so many fancy, expensive steakhouses in Houston. I hear Steak 48 is #1, but I looked at the menu and just seems typical of the other top steakhouses, imo

I like Perry's and Pappas Brothers Steakhouse better than Steak 48. It's overrated to me.
Steak 48 was pretty bland when I had it back in 2018 n mostly a hype place. Mastro's and them are related n Mastro's was even more tasteless. Pappas Bros Steakhouse and Tony's sell really good steaks for private owned restaurants along with Taste of TX here. I have heard Gatsby's and Georgia James are great private ones too n plan to try them this year. I mostly order the NY Strip n sometimes the filet.

I have eaten 100s of steaks in Texas restaurants all over the best steaks I have eaten in the past few years was at del Frisco's and bobs steakhouse in Dallas . All my opinion.

Area foodie groups all say it is good and the salad bar is phenomenal, but the steaks don’t have the greatest flavor compared to another half dozen area steakhouses! I personally don’t know....
Taste of Texas is well know throughout the Houston restaurant community for their age discrimination practices. You won't find a server over the age of 29 working there. Once you hit 30 you better start dropping off applications elsewhere because your days are numbered.
Taste of Texas? No way Houston is that down bad. Surely Pappas Bros Steakhouse is better.

No hate my man, but everytime I watch one of these, I kinda don't want to try the spot cause the way you eat the food makes it seem so dang dry. You smack your lips like 3-4 times per bite, and it looks like you need a large glass of water just to get the bite down
I think he does an excellent job. I watch a lot of food reviews and Mukbang.

I keep wantimg someone to give him a glass of water or something. But maybe that's just me
