    Quick tip, put a jack under the front of the vehicle and take the pressure off the wheels. It's a lot easier to turn that way. Also, if you get some air trapped in there, like the Dodge/Chrysler setups like to do(particularly the old Cummins trucks), you may have to turn the wheel lock to lock without the engine running first to push some of that air out.
    Good luck all! Thanks Chris! Another great video!

But one comment, once you have even a little bit of forward speed, there's almost no difference between power steering on/off in E46's. This is why they have such great road feel, you are getting almost direct feedback from the wheels. It just helps out when you're stopped and trying to park.

    • @hmata3
      @hmata3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One other thing, you should also allow the pump to get filled with some fluid before u start the car. Otherwise, if you can damage the new pump as it heats up, even with the turning if the wheels.
      For example, before tightening the high pressure line, allow gravity to pull fluid downwards. As soon as you see fluid dripping out of the high pressure fitting, then you can tighten to spec..

    • @chrisfix
      @chrisfix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I spoke to PEAK about this and they said that their fluid is the same as ATF but it has anti-foaming additives to prevent cavitation which is what probably caused this pump to fail. They also said their fluid meets/exceeds bmws specs. That’s why I used it. I always like to use the correct stuff so I decided to use my contacts to make a call! Great question!

      @@chrisfix I know on older BMW's somewhere it states that "Use Castrol Oil Only". I do recommend using Castrol oil and the specs that they were ment to be only on BMW's. BMW's are little bit delicate when it comes to using upgraded oil specs. Was a big difference with the e46 316i when workshop swapped from BMW spec Castrol oil to unknown spec Motul Oil. Engine sounds more rough now.
      BTW Love the channel, everytime i need to do something on my car I check if you have a video about it, so I know what I am getting myself into :D

    Chris fix has saved a lot of people a lotta money, I click on his videos even if I’m not doing that specific thing. However he’s so good at explaining and interesting to watch that I’ll click anyway and it feels good to support his videos.
