  • New research has found the awareness of ovarian cancer is ‘disappointingly low’, prompting fears that women could be diagnosed too late and ‘die needlessly’. The report found that the warning signs of the disease - such as bloating, abdominal pain and weight loss, are frequently mistaken for common conditions like cystitis or IBS. Following these shocking statistics, Dr Nighat is joining us to explain the symptoms you need to look out for.

Yearly ultrasounds are the answer.. Most women are not educated and don’t get tested.

I have had all these symptoms for about two years, and my belly has been growing larger during this time. I also have weight gain, but I believe that gain is from water retention, my body's way of fighting off infection. I have had higher than normal WBC count consistently but my doctor doesn't seem to be concerned about it. I have asked for a CT scan and my doctor ordered it for me. I am waiting on a call to have this imaging done.

I didn't know any of these symptoms were tied to ovarian cancer. I have the BRCA1 mutation so my chances of getting this type of cancer is 87%. I've been dealing with gut and abdominal issues for a long time and today finally went to the doc. I'm getting tested for diabetes (why I don't know), anemia, etc. I'm 39 in a month.

I found out from genetic testing that I have the RAD51D familial genetic gene and waiting for preventative removal of my ovaries since last summer which I’m apparently at top of list for - I am getting ongoing menstrual cramps for over a year now and now waiting on my 2nd ultra sound to get me checked out again bc 1st ultrasound was negative - I’m worried I have OC already somethings not right. 😢
