    Hey Austin, nice review! I'm considering this for work especially, and I often use dark mode or grey themes, so your video-editing segment 11:34 is spot on for me. Could you please write in the comments if the grey background of the video editing tool is uniform and if there's noticeable backlight bleed that moves around when you move your head just a little bit?
    From the video it appears that way, but light reflection from behind you makes it hard to discern.
    I use Odyssey G7 which is amazing for it's fast refresh, motion clarity and good colours, but the constant shifting of backlight bleed when using dark mode drives me mad.

    • @Kodyssey
      @Kodyssey  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So with your head in the center of screen as you would normally sit, the backlight bleed isn’t noticed very much. Very near OLED quality. I noticed more blooming looking down at at the screen than anything. A little from the sides but I don’t think you’d have to worry about it. For editing purposes, the G9 is AWESOME! The grey didn’t bleed from what I could tell. You will likely be pleased

    I feel you. I had the Dell 49" (which was the first 49" afaik) pretty much since release and I finally replaced this monitor. I stopped playing any video games on my desk and I also started to prefer to work on my MacBook screen since this aspect ratio is absolutely not for me. I bought it for productivity since the panel is not really made for gaming but I hated to game on this thing since I always felt the aspect ratio is much worse for gaming, it's also really taxing on the hardware and games (expect sim racing) were not really optimized for this aspect ratio. And to be brutally honest: I also hated the monitor for productivity. It was just too big. I had to turn my head, the number of windows and stuff on the screen was overwhelming to say the least. My second to last Mac Book had no native support for the aspect ratio and while you could potentially display a shit ton of information: I always felt that a 34" ultra wide is a much better sweetspot since you can absorb all the information on your screen without physically moving your head.
    I know switched to an an Oled G8, I use the dell for my sim rig now when not playing in VR and I'm so happy that I never have to go back to this 49" mess.

    Hi Austin, bad news for you regarding DSC (display stream compression). Driving 7680×2160 @240 Hz requires about 96Gbps (8-bit) or ~120Gbps (HDR) bandwidth, but latest DisplayPort 2.1 has maximum throughput of 80GBps (~77Gbps real data transfer rate). As soon as i heard the specs I kinda figured this monitor was a bit ahead of its time. literally. only amd cards have 2.1dp, but even so, its kinda crazy to even consider trying to run this native 240hz for modern games. who knows, maybe when the 5090 drops, people can actually run this monitor as intended

      When the 5090 drops, I’ll be all over it lol. The 4090 rocks, but games like A Plague Tale Requiem and various others.. if you max EVERYTHING out, you will notice a lag and drop in frames. Hopefully the 5090 will run GTA6 top notch at 200 fps. That, would be insane

    • @Kodyssey
      @Kodyssey  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      16:9 is 3840x2160.
      32:9 is 7680x2160.
      It is not possible to run a 32:9 resolution in a 16:9 format. Even if you could trick a computer or monitor to do it, 1 of 4 things would happen:
      1. It would squeeze the 32:9 image into 16:9 making everything stretched from top to bottom
      2. It would show a 32:9 panorama style image inside of a 16:9 screen
      3. It would goof up, and remain 16:9 OR 32:9 regardless of what you do.
      4. It would simply not work.
      I no longer have the monitor, as it wasn’t a fit for me. I went back to an OLED LG C3 42”. Currently awaiting ASUS 32” 4k OLED. So, I cannot test this, but I assure you, it would not work

    I have the 3080 with the 49" Samsung G9 Neo. I prefer it much more than the 4k monitor I had for a while and over the Predator 38" wide monitor as well, not only for productivity but also for games. Still have the Diablo 4 issue with bars on the sides but that's because it only supports up to 16:9. I think the 49" is more reasonable for people wanting to max the graphics for newer games with a 4090/4080. I have some of the less demanding games like Baldur's Gate 3 maxed with my 3080, but that game doesn't need 120fps+.

      I think it’s all personal preference. As for maxing a 4090, the 57” would be better - for games and productivity. More screen real estate, larger pixel density and such. However, most computer gamers are already used to a 1440p resolution, so the 49” would honestly be a better choice if they want to save money. • @Kodyssey
      @Kodyssey  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AgentMoler you’re research would seem pretty accurate. There was never an option at any given time to increase to 240hz, even with 1 side of the screen being used. If you drop to 2K or FHD, I’m sure that option is there. Nvidia is a trusted company and known for high end cards. I’ve always preferred them over Radeon ever since the last computer I built roughly 15-20 years ago.. had artifacts show up on WoW with Radeon, but never an issue with Nvidia. If there are issues with HDMI 2.1 running particular frames/refresh rates, it would make sense for them to omit the feature to keep any complaints of failure from flooding the web. Keeps their good name, and allows for more RND or trial and error until it’s tested and proven.

      Honestly, if you are running the 2070, I don’t think it would benefit you to get the G9 57”. It needs one hell of a card to run it. So 4090 or the latest Radeon. Otherwise, you’re better off with the 1440p version (49” G9). And there’s an OLED version of that. Also - if you play any games outside of simulation, I wouldn’t recommend the Ultrawide.

    This monitor is really nice but the picture-by-picture mode being 60hz only is a tough sell for me. Most games won't even come close to the advertised 240Hz in dual 4K. Hell, you won't get that at single 4K. Plus, a lot of games don't do well at all with 32:9.
    It seems incredible for productivity and desktop tasks, but the assumption here is that you'll be buying this to ditch a multi monitor setup. If I have to pull out another monitor to game comfortably half the time I'd be better served elsewhere.

    When you were talking about the first game, you are kind of incorrect with your explanation. It's not just 16:9 but stretched, it's the FOV that the game developer integrated that gives you that warped effect. You do get more visual information on a 32:9 aspect ratio monitor compared to a standard display. Also, when you do picture in picture: on this specific model you are limited to 60 hz on one side, and 120 hertz on the other. Real answer: No. HDMI 2.1 supports 4K up to 120hz. DisplayPort 1.4 supports 4K up to 120hz. Biggest difference in HDMI 2.1 vs DP 1.4 is HDR range. HDMI supports Dynamic HDR whereas DP supports static HDR. Dynamic is better.
      16:9 in center (option in the Odyssey Settings) shows as 27”. No 32” option which I thought was weird. however, you can mess with settings within windows and games to show as 16:9 and it will take the 32” screen space.

    All the reasons you gave are not Samsungs fault. When you use such titles, you make the product look bad when indeed, it’s all your fault/preference. So I need to add something here regarding the use of this monitor with HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4, and getting 240hz at 4K or the half 8K this monitor is.
    Supposedly with DSC (Display Stream Compression, you CAN run 240hz with 4090. I do not have this monitor anymore, so I cannot test this. However, since this is a compression (lossless or not), it “to me” is NOT a native 4K image. It’s doing some weird magical ju-ju, software witchcraft to let you do this. For professional use, this is not recommended. If you’re just the average gamer who needs a massive display like this, sure.. go for it.
    With that, I stand by what I say still. This monitor will not run TRUE native 4K on a 4090 at 240hz. Only a possibility with DSC enabled.
    If someone wants to make a video of this, with a 4090, running a game at 240hz 4K on this monitor DSC or not, please tag me in the video or include video link. Ill check it out and if it’s legit, ill make an update video and give said person a shout on it, and link their video for credit.
