  • Hey guys!
    This video is long overdue but I finally got around to answering some of your burning questions! There were more questions but considering this video is already almost 20 mins long, I decided to stop talking haha
    Here is a list of the questions and when I talk about it! for you to navigate through my psychobabble easier lol
    0:23 - which school did I go to?
    0:50 - a little motivational speech lol
    1:50 - what is a pro about Caribbean medical school?
    2:30 - are the match rates are Caribbean med school really not as competitive as the US?
    3:26 - is the failure rate actually that high?
    4:37 - cost?
    5:20 - experience overall
    6:34 - experience / adjustment to island life
    8:20 - cost of food, living, car rental etc
    9:50 - recreational stuff on island
    10:46 - what is the best Caribbean medical school? Top 6 according to google are ROSS, SGU, St George’s, Saba, MUA and AUA. No particular order
    11:00 - have you ever felt judged from the medical community for attending a Caribbean school?
    13:20 - is going to Caribbean Med school something that you would recommend doing?
    14:30 - is it different from American medical school?
    14:50 - is it in English?
    15:20 - how does it work? Do you get a medical license just to practice in the Caribbean?
    15:58 - do you have to take a semester off or take less credits in order to study for boards or does the school prep you well enough so you don’t have to do that?
    18:03 - conclusion (finally lol)
    Thank you for watching and let me know if this was helpful!!
    xoxo,
    @lizziilemed

    I love your energy, transparency, and motivational message!! Do you have tips on what resources or question banks to use for studying? I heard they do NBME like questions on AUA exams which sounds like you get STEP1 practice out the gate but I'd like to know what you recommend after completing basic sciences.

    • @Lizziilemed
      @Lizziilemed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi thank you! AUA has changed since i was there but yes, I also heard that all the exams are NBME questions now. When I was there, the professors were writing the questions and a lot of the times it would get thrown out so I think the NBME style is wayyy better. It definitely will prepare you for the comp/step exams! The question bank you absolutely need is UWORLD. its expensive but unfortunately very very necessary! lol other resources for step 1 that were helpful is pathoma, first aid, sketchy medical, and board & beyond! Good luck!

    • @abiola9579
      @abiola9579 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Lizziilemed Thanks for the suggestion, I definitely will invest UWORLD. Since I am starting my first semester soon, I'm going back and forth on saving UWORLD for dedicated STEP 1 studying after my 4th semester. But with what you said, maybe I'll look into starting it right away. I am nervous about wasting the questions if I'm not ready.

    • @Lizziilemed
      @Lizziilemed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abiola9579 yeah, it's very expensive and I had the same thoughts and didnt start the bank until late in the game. But if I could go back in time, the one thing I would do is start earlier. Don't think of it as wasting the question, think of it as having exposure to the question. I only got through UWORLD 1.5 times and I wish had more exposure to the questions. Ideally at least 2 passes through the whole bank. Also, if you watch a lot of those gunner med students that score ridiculously high on youtube, they say that they went through UWORLD like 3-4x lol just a suggestion though!

    Hi Lizzii, I know this video is a bit older but I have interviewed with and researched a bit about AUA. You mentioned that if a student passes the COMP exam at the end of the fourth semester, they will continue to clinical rotations but some take an extra semester.
