    I'm currently a 3rd year student at Saint James School of Medicine. This school offers low cost tuition compared to other medical schools. That being said, they do the bare minimum at most. Clinical rotations are limited, financial department is very inconsistent, and delayed releasing of test/course scores (by weeks) are very common. Saint James does not help students setup external rotations, does not participate in any federal student loans. As of recent, when you start clinicals (which are the last 2 years of your schooling) SJSM expects you to pay 2 semesters in advance... yes, you heard right... I'm in my 3rd semester of clinicals and I've just been billed for my 5th semester. If you don't pay in advance, then your account is place on hold and you do not advance. It's been very rough on some students.
    So if you are okay with the idea of self-taught medical school at a fast pace, then this might be the school for you. If you're really looking for professors and staff that go above and beyond for their students, this is most definitely not that type of school.
    I'm happy with the academic/career choices that I've made; however, I wish I had accurate information before making my decision. Hopefully this helps both the viewers with additional perspective, and perhaps SJSM with taking some accountability.
    Good luck to all those looking to start their medical careers!

  • @capgains
    @capgains 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    The question that needs to be answered, is what percent of student match into the residencies they desire?

    • @capgains
      @capgains 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there is an algorithm you’re put into. You are ranked by a hospital committee you’ve applied to. You also rank which residency these hospitals are located.
      So, which preferred residencies are sjsm applicants being accepted into? My question applies to any other us based med school residency applicant. My question is answered by the sjsm stats viewable on their website. At least 50% from each graduating class are accepted into primary care. Med students generally are not interested in pm.

    Hey Momoh! Great Content you got here. I am glad I found your channel. I am from Nigeria and I am based in the US. I am thinking of enrolling at St. James School of Medicine. Can one with a social science degree be accepted into the program without any science prereqs?

    • @mohsmedical9748
      @mohsmedical9748  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Ezekiel. You can get into Medicine from any discipline, certainly from social sciences. For St James specifically, while prerequisite sciences courses are not required, it is advisable to get some sort of sciences foundations. If you don’t have any science prerequisites and think you are a fast learner and can easily adapts to the science rigour medicine will throw at you, I’ll say go ahead and apply

    Hi Momoh, if I heard correctly, her lectures at At James are online, so she doesn't have to be at the island physically. I'm curious how that works for a medical school? And, how about practicals? Don't they do them? How do they achieve that online.
    I'm trying to apply to St James but this bit of information is worrisome to me... Thank you

    • @mohsmedical9748
      @mohsmedical9748  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Stephen, yes that’s what she said. Due to the pandemic, a lot of schools really had to adapt. I know for my school, which is MUA, the professors had to take cameras into anatomy labs to make dissections and record those sessions. For Clinical Skill labs, we had to watch online videos of people performing the procedure. It wasn’t optimal. But thankfully, most schools are back in person now, St James included. So you don’t have anything to worry about regarding online lectures and all.

    This is a for profit Offshore Medical School, so the investors can't afford to have a student fail because the publicity would adversely affect their pocket books. I wouldn't want a graduate from this mention of a school prescribe aspirins for me. Ever thought why 90.5% of the graduates are Family Doctors, the lowest specialty in the usa?
