Is that those killer bees it looks like something that was on my window but it was on the outside I thought it was a grasshopper but his legs didn't fit a grasshopper so I'm wondering if it was the same thing cuz he was huge scary looking 🥺
I saw a few treatments for squash bugs that we've used. One is companion plants. Such as nasturtium and white icicles radishes. Tachinid flies. They are beneficial against squash bugs. We have not used this one. Diatomaceous earth but be sure it's food grade. Be careful with mulch. Make sure it's not up next to plants. Over plant the seeds. The closer the plants the less chance of them getting into all of them. Use soapy water. I Tbsp of Dawn per gallon. Don't get it on blooms. Apply to bugs directly. . Can wash off leaves afterwards. I hope you have better luck with next crop of squash. You probably could plants another batch and get some grown before fall. I just wouldn't use than same planter again this year. My husband had the same problem this yiear with his squash.
Now there’s a ceiling 😊! You and carpenter Randy really are making good progress😁👍🏻. I’m hoping that both of you definitely drink your water 💦 😄! I love how you caught Bobby peeping in the doorway 😆! Percy and Pearl loved their fresh squash munchies 💕! Thanks for sharing, stay safe, God Bless🤗💕!
Greetings from East Texas! All the FEELS to y’all! My Daughter and Hubs are doing a Self / Family House Build down in SW Arkansas / Texas Border. They have everything closed in, insulated and THANKFULLY… the Air Conditioner in and Functioning. Sheet Rocking is the current challenge. Keep them in your prayers!
Holy guacamole those wasps/hornets were huge, glad you got them taken care of. The house is coming along nicely. Pearl & Percy loved their treat. Lip smacking good🤣 Take care & cheers 🐨🦘🥰
It is good seeing everything come together. If you want to add some soundproofing to any of your rooms, just put some foam insulating boards between the walls. We were glad when we did it. Had a bad year with the squash bugs eating my tomatoes and okra this year. Friend told us to get some chewing tobacco and soak it in a gallon of water for a week, then add a couple of cups of Dawn dish detergent to it. She did this to her plants this year and did not have many bugs at all.
Hi Dutch Having the ceiling in sure changes the look of the inside. Glad you got them wasps before they got you. Someone said they use a Neem oil spray from Walmart for the garden. Praying for a break in this heat. Praying health and success as you continue the build Stay strong and safe
I also use Neem oil. Mix it with water in a sprayer and spray topside and underside of your plants. All natural. It is extracted from the seeds of the Neem tree. Also works for some diseases that affect garden plants. I have used it since I got into gardening years ago. Just wanted to respond to what you said. Be Blessed.
You have done a great job on the house. Making great memories the kids will always remember Dad and Mom building your home. When I was a kid I can remember my grandparents home in Mississippi it was a farm and they built their own home. This would have been right before the depression. They had for years an out house. That is how my Mother grew up.
Hi Dutch and Randy. Your home looks like it's coming along beautifully. Love watching you build. Such a hard worker even in the heat. Stay hydrated. Until the next one.
That lift tool you are using is a great help in holding that sheet rock while nailing it up there. I’ve never seen that done that way. Watching your build is so interesting and I’ve learned a lot about all the steps in building a house. Thanks for sharing … it’s a lot of work filming, editing, and posting. Dutch, I’ve watched others and comparing various ones, you are the best organized build. Oops, I am allergic to wasp stings.. be careful.
Hey Dutch just a couple of things… is ceiling code there 5/8” drywall ? Don’t Forget your blockers before you drywall the walls for your kitchen cabinets towel bars toilet paper holders TVs and anything else that you are going to mount on your wall … Man 16’ and 12’ drywall would save on a bunch of seams to tape and sand 👊🏼👊🏼 Looking good 👊🏼🪚🔨✌🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸
You are doing a wonderful job on your house..I know you and Brandy will be happy to get in it and set back and watch TV with no stress of having to constantly work on the house...It's gonna be awesome..So happy for you guys...God bless from East Texas...Stay hydrated...
This year I put in 3 different kind of tomato plants, zucchini & yellow squash, carrots, beets, red & green peppers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans (that the rabbits thought was their salad bar), strawberries (the rabbits liked those, too) and a raspberry bush. Also planted some herbs. Got a few blueberries from the bushes we planted last year. I’ve been making strawberry, blackberry and raspberry jam and apple jelly. The blackberry I made seedless jam from. My arm is so sore from squishing berries in the cone sieve with the wooden pestal.
I have a book.."carrots love tomatos"....it is about companion gardening, what to plant with what to keep pest away and enhance the flavor of some others. Really good book if you want a natural organic way to keep bugs out of your garden
Awesome video today. I’m excited each time I watch the advancement of you building your home. I’m glad Randy is helping you as you continue on this journey. Be careful of those hornets, they can literally be lethal. The pigs were hilarious watching them eat those squash plants. All you homesteaders who planted squash this year had bug problems. Google the remedies for alleviating them for next years crop. Poor Bobby’s tail feathers…looks so sad. Good luck with the continuation of the home.🙏🏻💕🙋🏼♀️
The house is looking good and the pigs are loving there treat 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 thank you for sharing have a wonderful evening 😊
I love this whole process. Love seeing how things are done. It's just st satisfying seeing it come along then finished (I do alot of needle crafts ). That sheetrock lift is pretty cool, huh.
For your garden, use wood ash. You more than likely have ashes in your wood burning pile. Don't even need to put it on the plants themselves. A good dose of ashes on top of the dirt all around the plants themselves. Can use it in and around flowers as well. Can also plant marigolds in each bed.
Figure about 34 lbs of ash per cord of mixed wood. It has 1/2 the calcium of ag lime but has all your trace minerals plus P and K. Just remember, you won't gain the forgotten macro nutrient, S. Sulfur is needed for sugar and proteins in all feed and forage crops. We don't get it in acid rain like we used to.
I'm so happy you guys are coming along with the house. You guys work so so hard in this crazy heat. We're those black hornets? I got stung by a bunch of them years ago. I bled and swelled up bad for days. God Bless you guys.
Dutch. For squash bugs spray the plants leaves and vine with a 50/50 mix of water and imitation vanilla. It overpowers the sent out by the squash plants. Good luck with the next crop.
The house is looking so good, I’m excited for your family it is so close. How are you going to insulate the attic? Are you going to have it blown in? YOU, Randy are getting it done I’m so glad he has been there to help you, he is a really great friend, I like watching you figure things out together like a team it great. So happy for your family, try to stay cool 😎 ❤️🙏🐷🐷🐖🐖🦚🌞👋👋👋
When my husband I were hanging dry wall it was 2/6.98...a LONGGGGGG time ago ! I can't just imagine what all the drywall cost you. It's starting to look like a home now ! looks so good !
Something about hanging Sheetrock is just satisfying to me, I love progress ! 👍 I did all my ceilings in one day by myself in my house but my house is smaller
I’ve had good luck with Neem oil so far 🤞 with my squash and other veggies. I had an attack within the second day I planted all of my seedlings, attack from many sources. So far, so good.
You might want to try Neem Oil. My garden this year looks wonderful. It has truly helped save my garden this year. More productive yield this year. I purchased mine at Walmart.
The tool you are using to get the sheet rock up to the ceiling is neet. Bobby is going to be so heartbroken when he sees there are no more rafters for him to perch on. Glad you got those hornets out of there.
You should try putting the portable A/C in front of a fan to cool off the air around you and the sooner you insulated the outer wall it will help keep it cool and the a/c can make the whole house a lot cooler so insulated everything first
The sheetrock on the ceiling really makes a big different. It's really taking shape. The two pigs really liked the squash and the greens. They are so adorable. Bless you all.😍
Best time to spray a bees nest is at night when they are all at home, but I get it your trying to get work done and not get stung. Everyone swears by Neem oil, I its all natural .
I plant white icicles radishes around all my squash, melon, cucumber plants it keeps those nasty squash bugs away. I have tried other types yet the white icicles are the best. Benefit can keep replanting and eating all season. Nothing else I tried has worked. I plant seeds about 4 inches away from roots, as soon as I plant any squash, pumpkin, melon, cucumber type plant. I also plant marigolds as a border to keep away earwigs, spiders, etc.
I don't know how use r doing it in this Heat it's so 🔥🥵 . The House is starting to come a live n looking Good . Bless u Both n ur Family's n Friends n animals n Loved One's keep the H2O flowing.... 😇
It is good seeing everything come together. Kudos to you guys keep moving right along in this heat! Looking good with the sheet rock you have up. Last night we have some rain here {Netherland), i hope you have asos some rain these week. Wish you and your family and Randy a happy day and stay cool.
I use companion plantings. There is a book out by that name and it tells you what herbs or flowers to plant to keep the bugs away. I haven't had bugs for two years on my garden. He also has a Utube channel. Next level gardening.
Not sure what kind of rules you follow but I have found that if I mix dishwashing liquid soap with water in a spray bottle, shake it up good and spray my plant that the bugs tend to stay away... any dishwashing liquidworks fine and if you spray the soil too it get the eggs... you have to reapply when it rains
For a more natural pest control I use Joy dish soap diluted in water, has to be lemon Joy. I put maybe tablespoon in 2-quart spray bottle after sundown preferably, and plants cooled down works for all plants. I'm in Calif with our heat, bugs are a problem, but my family can't tolerate any pesticides. Good luck.
Squash bugs decimate my garden every year so this year I didn't plant them in order to try to break the life cycle and the other things to do is not to plant them until a little later in the season when they supposedly aren't as prevalent. I'll be trying that next year. The last thing that can be done are floating row covers. The only issue with that is that it keeps the good pests out as well so you'd have to hand pollinate them. Everything looks awesome with the ceiling in place. Once y'all get the insulation in place it will feel so much better even if still hot. The evenings and nights will feel a lot better though.
Spray bees in the evening when they are all in the nest. Staple paper bags around your doors, look that one up,I think you stuff the bag with just paper .
You can also mix your own homemade spray using 1 tsp mild liquid soap to 1 liter of water (be sure to always spot-test sprays before using them on any plant).
Aloha Dutch, the house is really coming along nicely. I loved it when you were walking around and filming, I could see your collection of solar panels and that could be another video on it’s own. How many solar panels do you have and what do they do type of video. I have a ton of solar panels of different sizes. I have some 20w and 30w panels charging up batteries for the LED lights that we use for the kitchen, bathroom and living room, which is two different sets, one set blue for law enforcement and white for when we want to eat dinner in front of the widescreen tv with my new Amazon 4k Max Firestick TV, that I absolutely love. No monthly bills, millions of hours of different shows to watch. As far as bugs in your gardens, I always used DE or diatomaceous earth, bugs just hate that stuff. Another thing you can use is used coffee grounds, which great for snells and slugs, a natural way of dealing with bugs. As to those wasps, they are great for the garden also, they love going after all the white flys that attack your tomatoes and strawberries. Just a bear to relocate them. Great video today! ❤️❤️❤️

Hopefully you put lots of blocking in for your cabinets to attach to

My step son takes baking soda and sprinkles it on his squash, zucchini and pumpkins. He says it works almost as well as seven dust.
Hey dutchie's, in the garden i use cinnamon powder, bugs hate it and it won't harm your garden or family, ❤❤🇦🇺🇦🇺
Wow what a difference that ceiling makes. 👍
When my husband I were hanging dry wall it was 2/6.98...a LONGGGGGG time ago ! I can't just imagine what all the drywall cost you. It's starting to look like a home now ! looks so good !

You should try putting the portable A/C in front of a fan to cool off the air around you and the sooner you insulated the outer wall it will help keep it cool and the a/c can make the whole house a lot cooler so insulated everything first
Woo-hoo!! Look amazing!! Love n Bless you all !!

I'd start laying in a whole lot of firewood now for winter so it has a small chance of drying it burns better the longer it has to dry
we sprinkle cayenne pepper on and around the squash plants. It helps control the squash bugs somewhat.
Glad to see the house coming together these are the videos I have been waiting for
Every video the house looks different. So much progress, it's great!!
