    Just sharing my ideas one of my favorite book series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin. This video may contain spoilers for those of you who are not up to date with the series. That goes for the HBO show and the books.
    I'm just speculating and guessing on some ideas that I have on how future events will transpire in the series. Keep in mind however, I know nothing.

    YiTi may be descended from the Great Empire of the Dawn, but it isn’t the same location. I believe Asshai is the original location of the great empire of the dawn, some form of apocalypse occurred, and the city was left in ruins as humans scattered to the winds, and YiTi is the remainder of that. I believe YiTi probably looks like an exaggerated imperial China, but I believe Asshai looks like an ancient, black stone, India. Similar to what we see at the Kailasa Temple, in India. Oily fused black stone and perpetually in shadow.

      Basically like the Roman Empire then? Asshai is the city of Rome, while the byzantines are Yi Ti, claiming descent from those ancestors and carrying on a lot of the traditions but not owning the family farm anymore, so to speak

    I was just thinking, several things in asoif have opposing counterparts. Or shall I say mirror opposites. One example is the wierwoods of westeros and the shade of the evening trees in quarth. Both types of wood I believe are used on the door to the house of black and white. Then there is the children of the forest vs the iqueveron in Essos. There's also the nights watch oath that says they are the " watchers on the walls" as in plural. The ice wall and the five forts I believe are the two walls and also hinges of the world as melisandre mentioned. Both of these structures guard the lighted and warm parts of the planet and once you pass them, you enter into darker ad more hostile places and climates. Perhaps the reason the maps end where they do is bc of the elemental opposing magics of ice and fire being out of alignment and the areas we don't see are dark like the heart of winter. I know the children mention that they had original gods that gave them long lives but few in number. I believe these to be whoever built moat cailin and battle isle. There is also either an old battle of magic between air and water reemergence as how euron claims to be the first and the last storm. The krakens are rising and the deep ones are coming out on the sisters. I agree with the red comet influencing euron, the bloodstone comet and the bloodstone emperor, and the white comet that made the sword dawn. There is something about these objects that have ignited magic again and allowed these powers to use their churches or emissaries to manipulate everyone to where they are now, just as kinvara told varys on the show. Humans are just pawns and some have been bred like the people of naath, the thousand islands and the valerians for this purpose. I know this is just a lot of random thoughts about the story but I wondered if anyone felt the same regarding some of these ideas. I also think Jon con might end up giving faegon or arianne martell greyscale. I would also like to know why the wildlings such as Val are terrified of children or people like shireen? I would love to hear some thoughts. I also kinda think that the house of black and white work with the church of starry wisdom. Just how the maesters helped with the Hightower to extinguish magic in the realm, efforts were made in other places such as leng to cut off the deep or old ones influence on the world.

    The Na'athi seem to be different from the Ifequevron, who seem to be the Essosi version of the children of the forest- only they no longer exist. They could be distantly connected.
    There are also black and blue trees that mirror the white and red of the Weirwoods as well as their magical properties.

    Super late to the party, but I come bearing gifts! So Yi-Ti in Mandarin can functionally be any number of different words since we don't know the tone it's supposed to be in. A few of the possible Yi-Ti translations I found interesting are
    "An organic whole"
    "One question"
    "One day"
    And "One's set way/a set."

    It seems to me that the Great Empire of the Dawn is YiTi's version of the Dawn Age as told by the First Men.
    The God-on-Earth, was the light of the sun, that blessed the world with light for at least 10k years and then left the world as it fell into darkness.
    It seems odd though that the Five Forts were built by the 2nd Emperor to fend against the Lion-of-Night and his demons, when the Lion-of-Night attacked after the Bloodstone Emperor killed his sister to ascend to power. Could it be that there were 2 Long Nights in the past?

      Beyond the grey waste lies a land of never ending frost and deathly chill, some say ancient creatures roam these lands, beings of pure cold. No one has ever come back alive voyaging the shivering sea that far to the east. Leonis Umbra of house Shadow moon says this for certain, the five forts were constructed of black fused stone not to be mistaken with black greasy stone.

      @@sophiawilson8696 Yes. Pretty much.
      I think it’s in part inspired by one of the Little Ice Ages following the Medieval Warming Period or perhaps on a weak theory that I heard of way back about the possibility that there was an impact event that occurred in the direction of Britannia (from a mainland European perspective) based in part by art around the time of the fall of the Roman Empire, I think trying to link it to the King Arthur legends.

    • @eds1942
      @eds1942 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sophiawilson8696 For the naturalistic explanations for these in series Ice Ages, I ruled outmost of the variables like with the Milankovitch cycles theory in Universe Sandbox without much change except three possibilities;
      1 - a wobbly axial tilt.
      (In the real world, we are actually closer to the Sun in the summer). It would help explain why they don’t travel the open sea yet.
      2 - their Sun is a variable star
      (Which effects the star’s energy output)
      3 - effects caused by interactions with other object. Like say with a major impact. Which we have direct evidence for with the last Long Night, the recent arrival of the Red Comet underlining that and the possibility of a repeat, and there’s some evidence suggestive of another impact millennia earlier for a total of, if the pattern holds true, 3 impact induced ice ages as it relates to the story.
      But, of course Martin has said that the reason is magic. For that, I place the blame on the Children of the Forrest by way of option 3. The CotF explanation also hints at 3 ice ages, twice in the past and we’re possibly seeing the start of a third.

    Aerys, during his last years, replaced Rheagar with Viserys as his heir. And thus Danaerys is Viserys's heir, the true heir to Aerys's line. What if Danaerys retakes her father's throne and Faegon usurps it, similar to what the "envious" younger brother-the Bloodstone Emperor did to Amethyst Empress? What if this usurping coincides with the coming of the Others? People would surely blame Faegon. Danaerys, amethyst eyed, with full Targaryen/Valyrian looks and three impossible dragons is already half a god to people. If so, it will mirror the Empire of Dawn story as the Winter is coming with the Others.

    Great Empire of the Dawn. In my opinion GEOTD is just a tribute to Chinese mythologies, particularly Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors and Xia Dynasty. Not some proto-Valyrians or something like some people here say. Also a lot of the theories sound like 19th century Nordicists.
    I doubt it would be mentioned in the main series. If it was there would have been more mentions in the main series (other than the vague hallucinations in House of Undying) not TWOIAF. The only relevant part is that they were affected by the Long Night as well and there might have been more ancient civilizations.

    • @rai2423

    You have to understand, Yi-Ti is not just "whats left" of the GEotD. It is just the only part of the former Empire that kept the cultural tradition. The people of the GEotD were not ethnically Yi-Tish. They were most likely were from the Shadow Lands/Asshai, and had Valyrian features (platinum/silver hair, pastel eyes). Yi-Ti, is just the only part of the Empire that rmembers what happened.

    If you're right, and the first emperor of the Dawn really was a God on Earth that had children, and that's not just legend, then it might explain why King's Blood has actual power, and why certain bloodlines are especially important/magical. They could literally be descended from higher beings.

    You did say that you are not a history buff, I would just like to point out that the oldest archeological site in north america is 13,200 and 15,500, located in Kortallayar river basin, and that there are ruins that far more than 200-300 in both north and south america.
    The Dawn Empire legend and mythological emperors is very similar to the origin legends of China, and also the art in World of Ice and Fire reaffirms this.
    I find your interpretation of Quaiths profecy very and comparison of Lovecraft and GRRM very interesting.
    Another author who has mystical potentially sentinent and definitely powerful stones, and who can count GRRM among her fans, is Ursula K. LeGuin. In her Earthsong series she has several ominous stones that are never fully explained, but play a metaphorical role.

The article I castba glance at probably alluded to the political north america (canada and the usa), and not the feographical north america which Extends to Panama. And Mayan, Aztec and Olmec ruins are all older than 300 years.

      I don’t know about a historical analogue to Quarth, but I have not given it much thought. But GRRM does not only use history as inspiration.
      Quarth does correspond very well to the European concept of orientalism, in that it is middle eastern, but bathed in mysticism, if that makes sense.

    Humans didn't reach America via ice bridge. Rather the Glaciation meant that water was on land rather than in the Ocean, dropping sea levels enough to reveal the continental shelf. Furthermore it's even debatable whether that's how humans got to the Americas given that the Bering Strait has enough Islands that one is always in sight of land, and current archeology seems to support the coastal route theory rather than the corridor theory (which implies the first Americans had a maritime tradition).

    I'd like to see what people's theory on the Bloodstone Emperor of Yi-Ti and the Others, now that latest episode of WestWorld season 3 has hinted at a cross-over with GoT series.
    Maybe the end of GoT wasn't bad because of writing...
    Maybe the "guests" finally got bored of playing the Game of Thrones?

    • @eds1942

      Martin said that the White Walker wights are animated by ice magic. Ice Wights.
      And those resurrected by Red Priests are animated by fire magic. Fire wights.
      The Ice magic of the Great Other, or the Night King on the show.
      The Fire magic of Rh'llor.
      Similar in principle, different delivery systems. The extent of control is also different, as Ice Wights show very little to no connection to who they were before death (they may try to seek out those that they wanted to go to before death in order to kill them) And only have enough individuality to operate as basic vi/ai drones like with RTS games. They are bound completely to the will of the Great Other.
      Where as those resurrected by Rh'llor, clearly show that they know who they were in life (though that deteriorates with each time that they are brought back), and can make their own decisions or at least try to carry out what their plans were when they originally died. Examples;
      Beric continues to carry out the Ned's orders, though he has expanded that to deliver justice against all those that have killed and pillaged the innocent, he also converted to the religion of Rh'llor, gave the gift of life to Catelyn Stark against Thoros's advice, has meaningful conversations, and shows a basic code of respect and honor.
      Lady Stone Heart on the other hand is purely driven by the need for revenge. To have put to death all of those (and anyone with them) that she believes to have wronged her family.
      So, no, the Night King can't control LSH.

    GRRM is just talking shit when he criticizes Tolkien about Sauron and Orcs being evil for evil's sake when Sauron has thousands of years if lore which gives him more nuance than people know. For people who have only watched Peter Jackson's films would think Sauron was wanting to take over the world because he was evil, but in the books his motivations do go deeper than that. And as far as not wanting mindless evils like orcs....you have fucking UNDEAD as your soldier villains....

    @20min how the hell can you get things so wrong? You say that all these places had different heroes? That makes no sense, and doesn't follow what we know of human folklore. No. The hero happened one time, and all different civilizations had their own understanding of it. The same way religions operate today. It's really simple.

      The Last Hero seems to be exclusive to the First Men's story of the Long Night. The Last Hero is last heard of seeking the aid of the Children of the Forest.
      Azor Ahai on the other hand, is defiantly an individual hero. But, it seems that the Maester's have combined others into his story, based off of similar characters that fit the same roll. He also doesn't seem to fit the legend told by the Rhoynar.

    I hope this doesn’t sound offensive it’s not my intention, but do these people haven’t read other fantasie/mystery books other than George’s? Because I don’t understand why they're so obsessed, I mean I’ve read some of his books and I liked them, it’s true that there are very interesting mysteries, however there’re so much better books with quite more interesting mysteries and characters. I just don’t get it. I also think these kind of videos make the story look more misterious than it actually is and try to find an explanation for every single thing. It’s true that George has created a very wide world within the books, but I think when/if the last two books come out it’s going to be quite disappointing for those who want to know every detail about each city, civilization, cult, curse...I mean, come on, some things are clearly written just to make the books heavier. The books are easy to read and he actually gives you many hints so the readers can make hypothesis. It just bites me all the attention this series got when so much better stories are ignored. Anyway, like I said I like the books -so far- and I’ve watched the series, but I def don’t think this series deserves all this obsession they are ok, but not above the greatest fantasy stories.

      I totally agree with you, but I have to point out that the situation that makes you scratch your head is not actually 100% George's credit. It is partially the show's popularity and these videos help fans cope with the long wait in between the seasons which helped nurture a sort of fan culture that thrives on it's own. It's like a game I play, the game might suck and the management sucks too, but the community has grown a life of its own and sustains the playerbase through interaction or whatnot. I am not saying ASOIAF sucks, I'm just saying that these videos exist is because there's a demand for them and youtubers with enough passion for the material to create them. The 'better' books you mention might be great, but unless they become bestsellers and get made into TV Shows with millions of hungry viewers and curious for more content, they will not get this attention. That's just the sad truth.
