A Song of Ice and Fire Theories: Euron Apotheosis - What Is Evil? (Part 1)

  • In A Song of Ice and Fire Euron Greyjoy was the second born son of Quellon Greyjoy, lord of the Iron Islands. It seems that even from his earlier days there existed darkness within him, a darkness that only grew with time. I believe Euron is a psychopath. According to the dictionary, psychopathy is defined by impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited, and egotistical traits. The word psychopath does not imply delusional thought or irrational action. Euron thinks extremely highly of himself and is incapable of empathizing with other people. And now he seeks final Ascension. The Horn, Victarion, and Holy Men all seem key to Euron’s Grand Plan.

    I made a mistake in this video. I said that Euron Greyjoy was the second born son but he is actually the fifth born son. He was born after Balon. Two of the older ones died as infants and one was sick of greyscale and murdered by Euron.

      I got an idea u could do for a book and show comparison.
      Display all differences that u can.
      Ie. Which characters were not included integral to the plot/lore etc.
      Which characters were changed for no fucking reason other than shitty writing.
      Which prophecies and arc were raped and butchered and plot armoured. Ie. Azhor Ahai.
      This could be a series type and help the longevity of ur channel. I love it and had seen it back in season 5 days but lost u among other got content.

This is why he’s more like a backstreet boy than Crow’s Eye from the books. He was more annoying than sadistic. Show Ramsay was 1000 times more cruel, evil, and sadistic than show Euron. To be honest watching pirates of the Caribbean as an adult shows me how insanely in depth some of the character motivations and plans are. Jack Sparrow of all people is actually a far more manipulative and potentially sinister character at times than show Euron. He's not overtly a fuckhead, and he is quite comical, but he's a cunning genius in the first three movies. It's a shame that Game of Thrones of all things can't beat that.

    Here's my rough take: Euron, Bran, Bloodraven, and the Faceless Men are all operating within the realm of the Great Other (Death) in their own ways, though they may not all be working toward the same ends.
    First, the connection between the House of Black and White, shade of the evening, and the weirwood trees. Shade of the Evening is made from black trees with blue leaves, contrasting with the weirwood trees with their white wood and red leaves. Shade of the evening and weirwood paste both produce roughly the same effects when consumed -- taste like a mix of every flavor in your memory, then evoking prophetic visions. The Faceless Men also use incense with similar properties, and their door is famously carved from black and white wood, while they dress in cloaks of black and white.
    Second, the connection between the Faceless Men and the Doom of Valyria. They are former slaves who worked in the volcanic mines of Valyria (likely excavating dragonglass and dragonsteel) but who are implied to have brought about the Doom of Valyria by assassinating the magi who maintained the Fourteen Flames. This nearly wiped out the Targaryens and even killed many of their dragons. I feel like this positions them, generally, as enemies of "fire" (life / light) and thus allies of "ice" (death / darkness).
    Third, the connection Euron has to, well, _everything._ He has at least hired a Faceless Man to kill his brother, and quite possibly to procure a book from the Citadel with details on how to kill dragons, and some theories suggest he may be a Faceless Man himself (note the many similarities between Euron, Daario, and the Alchemist, all perhaps the same man, or many men using the same face). He is heavily implied to be a "fallen dreamer," perhaps a failed or rebellious former pupil of Bloodraven's, and his crow's eye implies another connection between the two. Then, of course, there's his particular form of atheism, in which he seems to learn from (and then torture) members of all faiths -- almost like a perversion of the concept of the Many-Faced God. There's also the imagery of him sitting upon the Iron Throne with all the gods impaled on its blades in Aeron's visions.
    Fourth, the ultimate role for Euron and Bran. At this point, I'm pretty well convinced that the Night King is the show's rough stand-in for _true_ book Euron. Dragonbinder _is_ the Horn of Winter, or will be: Euron will bind Viserion and use him to bring down the Wall, unleashing the Others on Westeros, releasing a new god "born from the graves and charnel pits" -- the Great Other -- perhaps Euron himself, the "godliest man ever," a personification of the Many-Faced God. I believe that if Euron is a fallen pupil of Bloodraven, than Bran will be the one who stands against him. Whether Bloodraven is a servant or enemy of the Great Other, Bran will stand (or rather sit) in opposition. Same way that he opposes the Night King in the show.
    Fifth, what this could mean for Arya. If the Faceless Men are truly a death cult in service of the Great Other (long ago destroying Valyria and halting the production of weapons that kill the Others and wights), then does that mean they are allied generally with Euron, or do they simply seek to maintain balance between (black and white)? It certainly seems that at least the Alchemist is conspiring with him. Will Arya rebel against them, or will she act on their behalf to prevent Euron for tipping the scales? Could this be the nugget that lead to her ultimately killing the Night King in the show? Will she kill Euron In the books?

    It's interesting to me that GRRM talks so much about how he enjoys writing grey characters, when it seems like he also really delights in writing completely loathsome villains. pure evil characters are interesting for the same reason pure good characters are: seeing how they maintain their convictions in a world of grey morality. Captain America is an example of a pure good character done right. So is Superman. they're interesting BECAUSE they try to stay noble in a world that doesn't want them to be. That just leaves the question now... If Euron Greyjoy is, infact, the Bloodstone Emperor who stared the Long Night. Then... Who`s the Prince to be Promised?... Who will be the one to rise against Euron and raise Lightbringer? Or... Will there be multiple heroes to up pose him? Think about it? In all the stories told. It`s the Bloodstone Emperor who sets the Long Night in motion. But there is always a hero that stops, his name is known not just as Azor Ahai, he`s also known as Neferion, Hyrkoon the Hero, Eldritch Shadowchaser and Yin-Tar. Now sure it`s easy to that "Ooh these names just refer to same person, it`s just a coincidence." Coincidence? I think not. It`s possible that maybe there wasn`t just one, but in fact multiple individuals who opposed the Bloodstone Emperor`s corruption. I mean, it`s stated in the books that it`s in Asshai that we get the legend of Azor Ahai. So that just leaves it open for more possibles.
      Now all of this is just my opinion, and me just making a crazy theory up. So take everything i just said with pounds worth of salt.

      @@trystenlyth1139 I personally believe they do all refer to the same person. But it's not a coincidence. The difference in names come from the fact that each of the different region's (that make up the Great Empire of the Dawn, which the Long Night ended) telling of the events alter the legend so that the hero is someone of their own region. The hero is called Azor Ahai in the Asshai'i legend. Neferion in the legend from the city of Nefer. Hyrkoon the Hero is the legend from the Patrimony of Hyrkoon. Yin Tar is the hero from the Yi Tish legend. All of these legends describe the same event: a hero that rose up to push back the demons of the long night, however since the Great Empire collapsed during the long night and all of these smaller nations formed from its remnants, it makes sense that each one would try to brand the hero who ended the long night as having been one of their own.

    I kind of want the books to end with Euron winning.
    It would be a very ASOIAF ending for the Others to be defeated, only for it to turn out that Euron actually achieved his apotheosis, becoming a new eternal threat that must be confined to the depths of the sea, rather than the Lands of Always Winter.
    It would be even more awesome if, when/if the books introduce the Night King, it turns out that he was just another Euron-like figure from the ancient past that figured out how to achieve his own apotheosis, only he focused on the COTF and warging and necromancy instead of Valyrian fire and blood magic.

    • @kasinokaiser1319
      @kasinokaiser1319 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Gabriel So Night King will be an Asian man hopping over from the other side of the planet to harass the north? I still think having him be an apotheotic Stark, perhaps even a close relative to Brandon the Builder is the best option as GRRM said he will not explore Yi Ti, Leng, or Asshai within the ASOIAF series

    • @kasinokaiser1319
      @kasinokaiser1319 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Gabriel Well yes but in the case of Azor Ahai, he was a mythical historical figure who had lived and presumably died, and the Red Faith believers are merely looking for his representative or reincarnation. Same thing with the Bloodstone Emperor, he lived, betrayed the Yi Ti such as with the Night's King, and had been dealt with. He could be the Night King equivalent but wouldn't he be more likely to take revenge on the weakened leaders of Yi Ti and assault it's Blackstone Walls rather than doggedly harass the wildlings and the Starks? There almost seems to be some sort of intelligent intent behind the targetting of Westeros, and I feel had the White Walker Bloodstone Emperor been active we'd be seeing more White Walker activity against Asshai, the Dothraki, and the Jade Sea and these horrifying stories would most definitely have reached the Free Cities via traders who currently dismiss the White Walkers as no more than Westerosi/Yi Ti superstition right now along with much of Western Essos.

    • @kasinokaiser1319
      @kasinokaiser1319 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gabriel I was asking the question of why the White Walkers are currently putting all their efforts on Northern Westeros? Considering how Yi Ti is currently fractured into several warring states, it might be that they have some sort of analog to the Brotherhood of the Night's Watch and the warring states simply shrug off rumors about the White Walkers similar to the Seven Kingdom but until it's confirmed, we'll never really know. But this brings about another question as to why the White Walkers haven't simply crossed the Bone Mountains to fight the Dothraki and the Ibbenese, or navigate the shadowlands to sack Asshai. White Walkers don't seem like the fearful type and wouldn't just stop because of the Dothraki's reputation, and it's not like the Bony Mountains are an inhabited and well-defended fortification. Either there's some form of magic preventing the Eastern White Walkers from invading Essos, the Yi Ti have somehow defeated their Eastern Front already in some culminating battle, they're building force there as well, or most of them have been relocated to fight in Westeros.

    • @kasinokaiser1319
      @kasinokaiser1319 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gabriel Well GRRM will not explore Eastern Essos in ASOIAF so anything we'll find out about what happens there will mosy likely be second hand knowledge in the events to come

    • @kasinokaiser1319
      @kasinokaiser1319 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gabriel Would be interesting to see a spinoff about a Jon Snow-like figure in Yi Ti played by Steve Yeun who tries to unite the warring Yi Ti states and tries to set aside their differences with the Jogos Nhai, Hyrkoon, Leng, Asshai, and Ibbenese in order to form a coalition to deal with the White Walkers in the east

    The sea of blood prophecy is fascinating. By the Forsaken chapter, Euron's fleet is at the Redwyne straits between the Arbor and the Three Towers, with the powerful Redwyne fleet facing them from one mouth of the strait, and the Hightower fleet and Lyseni Sellsails from the other. It seems that Euron's fleet is doomed, by Aeron's account they have around 36 longships along with a few prizes of war including a great cog. Against them are 200 warships and 1000 merchant ships of the Redwyne fleet and a presumably significant number of Hightower ships. The 100 ships of the Iron Fleet, the best that the Ironborn have, are approaching Meereen under Victarion's command and the remaining Ironborn ships (reportably 1000 in total) are mysterious absent. It seems that Euron is in a terrible position and badly outnumbered, and yet he planned to be in this position. Obviously the Redwynes and Hightowers are the ones sailing into a trap, but I wonder what it could be? It probably involves the missing Ironborn ships and perhaps Krakens and blood magic. There's a reason for the priests being tied to the prows of the ships after all. Either way, the Redwyne straits will soon be red with blood.

    Considering how different he is in the books and how major his story is being set up, I can't imagine other characters stories playing out the same way. Especially Daenerys. I highly doubt she's going to do what she did at the end of the show. With characters as evil as this having dragons, Cercei being highly foreshadowed as the second coming of the mad king, wanting to burn KL in wildfire, it'll be so strange for it to end with Dany burning KL in rage, becoming a strange villain by the end. Absolutely no way that's happening. I think her ending will be one of the most different to the show. So many other aspects are part of her story, such as Aegon and evil Tyrion, then you add this mad man coming for her dragon and add Jon Snow who'll be less of a man than before. The story isn't going the way it did in the show.

She has 3 dragons and a good army (I doubt she'll have as many Dothrakis as in the books) I doubt having a psychopath at her side is something she's looking forward to... She'll soon have Tyrion, Jorah and Marwyn at her side in addition to Barristan (he seems to survive the battle of Meeren), she still has her 3 trusted Dothrakis bloodriders (still wonder why they died in the show) they will enough to stear her clear of that madman... The cut out tongue, the way she hisses at Moqoro, the Warlock in the dungeon muttering "Pree Pree Pree" like he had screamed the words until his voice gave out. I'm still not convinced he went to Valarya. The Basalisk Isle's were littered with Valaryan Slavers. Some must have been so wealthy that a Valaryan Steel Suit could have resided there at some point. It's def possible he went there, but I'm far from convinced for now.

    I've always pictured Euron is what Voldemort would be if he lived in the ASOIAF universe. A psychopath with arcane knowledge of dark magic, who in his youth had a handsome and charming exterior and could get people on his side, but completely lacked empathy and lusted for ultimate power and immortality and to use this power to rule and dominate everything.

    I don't get this: If Euron doesn't believe in the gods of men, why do consider the priests as holy? why does he think priest blood has more power than "regular" blood if he thinks that the gods (whatever they might be) don't exist?

    I believe that the Euron crew is mute for more than one reason to scare people and also not to reveal that he did not go to Valyria, like even balerion got injured there right ? the Valirian steel armor that I think he bought in YiTi or somewhere in the east.

    • @fibo4108
      @fibo4108 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bruh, there were little doubt of him going to Valyria when we only knew about the horn. The reveal of the valyrian steel armor should basically confirm it; having the tongues of his crew removed for such a petty reason (compared to everything involving Euron) is just lame.
