To put it simply: Euron aspires to be akin to the Bloodstone Emperor of yore. And to top that off, Danaerys is already the known successor of that line, from one of her specific visions at the House of the Undying.
eggs-actly. Euron is actually the only one who refers to Dany's purple eyes as "eyes of Amethyst" too, which is cool. Vic repeats him later but he heard it from Euron.
@@DavidLightbringer but the Bloodstone Emporer usurped the Amethyst Empress, and possibly killed her. So wouldn't this mean that Euron's intentions with Daenarys is to steal her dragons and kill her, in essence usurping her, just as the ancient story goes? Just a thought. ❤

@@DavidLightbringer Amethyst! Thanks dude, needed the refreshing. As Marla Mathews expresses up there, they're the real pitting of nemeses in this book now, aren't they? History will be in a process of repetition until it is upturned, and the Amethyst wins over the Bloodstone.
I suspect the Valyrians are just one branch of descendants of the Amethyst Empress, and Azor Ahai (with the Sarnori, and Hyrkoon being other branches, and possibly the Rhoynar and Yi Ti as well)
I don't think Azor Ahai is the Bloodstone Emperor. It's possible that Azor Ahai may have been the Empress' other brother, and that's probably where the old Valyrian Dragonrider custom of incest comes from.

They probably couldn't have pulled him off even if they tried. His first few appearances based on the book would have been awesome and then he would have ended up as stupid and shallow as everybody else. At least this way we get an unspoiled storyline, same as Victarion, Stoneheart, Faegon etc.

@@Huffman_Tree True. First time he shows up is in s6, and DnD had already wanted to end things, so adding another major player so late in the game wouldn't work. Plus, I think his story is too tied to Oldtown, fAegon and Victarion-and since they cut all these players, there was no way to add him.
Still not an excuse to butcher him like this. They might as well have added a completely different character, a bastard brother of Balon instead of sullying Euron's character with 'finga in da bum' guy.

I liked the interpretation of the Dragons, Krakens and Sphinx’ bowing down to Euron representing the Targaryens, Greyjoys and the Citadel. That makes a lot of sense!

The ones im more hyped to see in the upcoming weeks are Stannis in the Battle of Ice and Littlefinger's Vale Masterplan
Not sure if I’m more hyped for those than Euron... but I’m definitely hyped. For Stannis’ story in particular. His situation seems so hopeless now that he’s stuck in the snow. And I kinda hope he can get out of it. He’s such a hard, interesting dude. I’m thinking winter will break him.
I'm excited to see if that whole false light/lake thing happens in the Battle of Ice, and if Stannis somehow fakes his own death to deceive the Boltons.

I was surprised to find myself really enjoying Stannis’ storyline. When we leave him in Dance, he is snowbound and betrayed, with knives all around him. I think he’ll get out of it as well. This guy is a seasoned warrior. I will also be shocked if he burns his daughter like in the show-that felt out of character. I disagree with so many directions the show went... but alas, poor Stannis, we hardly knew thee!

What’s great about Stannis is we never get his POV. We get hints of his inner thoughts filtered through others. He’s this gray character that we only see through someone else’s eyes.
Maester Cressen saw Stannis differently than anyone else: a hard, strong man that no one loved... or even liked, really. He’s stiff necked, but he keeps someone like Davos around to try and keep him honest-he hates the politics of the highborn.
I think I like Stannis bc Davos likes him. I do think he’s damned himself by murdering his brother, though it’s no more than Renly would’ve done to him given the chance. At the very least, I hope he deals the Boltons a deep wound before he is taken off the board.
If we assume that Bran wins the Game of Thrones then I think that Euron might be the final villian because he mirrors Bran in alot of ways.

How? Bran is the rightful king in the north. Euros is the illegitimate king of the iron islands. Bran has a third eye hidden. Euron has one eye hidden. Bran loves his brothers. Euron loved his brothers in a more physical way. Bran can’t walk. Euron can. Is this how?

Euron and Bran are each the two people leaping from the Tower in the tarot card as it is struck by lightning, granting them esoteric and otherworldly power.
Euron from the books is so epic and threatening,compare and contrast with the character of finger-in-the-bum in the show.
It was honestly such a huge insult to George for the show to portray his well thought out complex terrifyingly evil villain character like that. I'll never forgive d&d.

If and when George finishes the books, I have a high feeling that the world is going to be in Armageddon with Euron vs Stannis and Dany for not only the throne but for all humankind.

@Nick Kurtz I agree with you. I tend to think IF Stannis & Daenarys do meet, there is a lot that indicates they would become allies not only against The Others, but also The Scouring of The Kingdom.
From a certain perspective both have an equal claim to the Iron Throne. Stannis through the new Baratheon dynasty that Robert created, and Daenarys through the Targaryen dynasty that was usurped/defeated. They are both mostly concerned about the fact that within each of their familial dynasties, each of them is The Rightful Heir. Also, I think the fact that they share blood ties will mean something to them both. Yes, Stannis shares blood with Eddric Storm, but he never had a claim to the throne. Also, for a long time, Stannis flat out refused killing him because they share blood. So, I think it's quite possible they could and will team up if they do meet. More like an uneasy alliance to start. Something like, " Let's save everything first, get everything under control, and then deal with who has the better claim". Then 1 or both of them could die, allowing it to never come down to the 2 of them facing off. 🤷

P Muller With the idea of them become allies is totally up to they’re ideological ideas and what they fight for. Stannis and Dany both want to be the ruler of Westros is either they team up or become a three way war would and should work based on they’re thought process.
That is a pretty cool match up honestly, they are so different and yet so alike. Deeply tied to the sea, magic and gods, prophecy. Stannis has a history with the Ironborn. Both have complex relationships with they’re brothers, who were kings and warriors. Both killed brother(s) with magic assassins with interesting faces. Yet Stannis is utterly devoted to others and duty. While Euron wants power for himself for powers sake alone.
There's also a bank in old Town, that could find his magical endeavors. Also, overthrowing the maesters and/or the faith would be a huge help in showing his power to the rest of Westeros.
To a man such as Euron, who wants to be a God, what matters to him the minds of lesser men. He does not just want to destroy their faith, but to kill their gods.
So one of the things I remember them mentioning several times was that the tower of old town was so tall that you could see the wall from that. Now it’s clearly not physically tall enough to see the wall, but perhaps with a magic candle and a horn (1 of 2 there) could bring the wall down, and perhaps unintentionally...

Oh yes, the next three books are my favorites of the series with Storm being the best. IMO. I still remember the first time I read Feast and Dance for the first time and how amazing it was because of how different they are from the show. It's basically something completely new and it will cause you to give the stank eye to the show.
These dudes would read a random description about like Robb Starks wife’s hair that’s like one line long and be like “oh yeah symbolism” and figure out some way to connect it to strong belwas or some shit like that
If you think about Euron could have been responsible for reawakening the Others... He has the eye of the Bloodstone Emperor... Who some legends say caused the first long night... So maybe Euron found a way to caused it to happen again... 🤔🤔🤔
Tinfoil theory on Euron's gal pal: She's not really there. We see them laugh at the dwarfs, so we know they see the same thing, but we don't see them acknowledge one another. I think this woman could be using a glass candle to watch Euron. It could explain why she appears as a shadow w/fiery hands as opposed to a regular woman. The "alive" with pale white fire description could imply the candle is being actively used at that moment. Also, there's some similarities between the glass candle's description and the woman's.

As to her identity, I'd guess Sarella/Alleras, using a glass candle she takes before being forced to flee the Citadel due to Euron's attack on Oldtown. Sam might not be the only one to steal something before being forced to leave...Not to mention, a gc would be a convenient way to inform Marwyn as to what transpired with Euron, or just spy on Euron for Marwyn and Daenerys.
I like this theory. You mentioned it in a previous discussion, and it went over my head, or I forgot it. She’s not aligned with Euron, but keeping an eye on him.
@@cruddddddddddddddd Thanks. It's crazy, and probably incorrect, but I think certain things about it make sense. Admittedly, I'm also biased in Sarella/Alleras's favor because she's one of my favorite characters. So perhaps that's why it makes sense to me lol.

I feel like Euron knows very well what he is venturing. It is what has made him so crazy and dismissive of convention thus far. I would not be suprised if he remains a force to be rekoned with, bearing many secrets still into the last book.
If he's truly been to Old Valeria AND Asshai his mind has totally broken away from known "reality". He's thinking beyond anything "normal" that we know of.
I have a feeling Euron will be the final battle after defeating The Others.
Of course he’s the final boss. He’s the man who thought he killed Jaime Lannister.
I'm hoping that GRRM bunkers down and stays safe. The coronavirus gives him the perfect excuse to literally do nothing but finish these damn books already. Either that, or we won't get the last two books :'(

It's really awesome that we can get still get great book content like this. There were book fans before the show and we are still here after the show.
Euron is certainly an evil self aggrandizing maniac with an insane level of diabolical aspirations. Among many major issues with the show , the HBO series' portrayal of him was terrible all around & did not capture him at all ; honestly they would have been better off leaving him an oft rumored & whispered about off-screen character with no payoff , the lack of follow through similar to many other show concepts. But anyway , definitely will be interesting to see what comes of Euron's attempts , he is surely trying to become a god and will stop at nothing to do so , hopefully it becomes a mega epic Icarus-like iteration collapse that we see at some point with Euron. So much theorizing and conjecture on exactly what he will / be able to summon , what his plans are for Oldtown (beyond destruction) ; though as mentioned here and elsewhere it does seem like he wants to break the world and create it anew in his evil image with Euron as a seeming deity at the helm. This impending blood sacrifice should be epic ; all types of religious and magical blood , his own kin (kin-slaying) and his child via Falia (could be argued kings-blood at work there) , will be interesting to see what transpires from that.
Also it has to be said Euron must be politically savvy / astute and charismatic as well because he could not have gotten where he is without those willing to follow and support him. And i think Euron's metaphysical experience trial / evaluation from Bloodraven in Euron's youth , where Bloodraven likely deemed him to sick and evil to be chosen , gave EG a glimpse into the magical mysteries of the world of which he took to a very dark place and fueled his endless selfish evil ambitions. One thing I am not sold on is that he will get his hands on the Horn of Winter , not saying definitely not but sort of too much a monopoly on horns for me considering he already has the dragon-binder , and i don't believe the HoW will take down The Wall anyway. The timing with the books' Night's King is a bit murky but most of it suggests that whole episode came after the Wall was built and the HoW was blown during that time and the Wall is still up and intact. Though with dragon-binder , knowing Euron clearly is 10 steps ahead of not the sharpest Victarion , definitely curious to see what the exact results of blowing the dragon-binder will be. Euron is just a well written evil villain whose fall / collapse should be just as epic as his rise with likely some type of backfire or blowback with his continued reckless heinous actions , especially with the idea of the magical cost principle we see so often in GRRM's ASoIaF universe.

Alex B , good comments mate , agreed on so much of it. I definitely think as big and bad as he is he will have some epic downfall along the way. Either a massive backfire from his crazy attempts or like LmL suggested possibly opening the door for the Others and they just kill him or cast him aside.
Yes. Euron was a candidate rejected by Bloodraven.
His potential is similar to Bran's so his idea about becoming some sort of "god" is not so crazy as it appears from the outside.
He has the potential to see things near & far, past & future. He is likely a warg & a green seer.
@@Niall001 yes very likely he has the magical predisposition and possibly the old gods rare warg and greenseer abilities , which will continue to fuel his ego and ambitions that he is god-like and superior to most everyone. Ntm , his frequent and continued use of psychedelics (via Shade of the Evening) , encountering other magical people like warlocks and besting them and if he actually went to Valyria and Asshai (possibly even to Stygai) surviving those and likely learning / dabbling with all sorts of other magic from those areas are just going to fuel his craziness and supremacy more. He likely encountered some form and / or teachings of the Church of Starry Wisdom and the Bloodstone Emperor (likely in Asshai) and the atrocities the B.E. kept doing to empower himself further and further of which Euron is seemingly trying to emulate (he does seem a modern iteration of the Bloodstone Emperor on many levels) . Euron's magical predisposition , with possibly numerous innate magical abilities coupled with drug use and his travels & life experiences of basically doing heinous act after heinous act without any sort of reckoning are all contributing & culminating into what we are getting with current Euron. Literally a recipe for disaster.

The Euron plot is so interesting. Like what makes him think he can turn himself into a god. The only other character we’ve seen that is being set up to be “god-like” is bran and most of us believe he is being tricked somehow. So naturally that makes me wonder if someone is tricking Euron and that everything he is about to do to become this god will really benefit some unknown person. I think “an American thinks” had a theory a long time ago tldr it’s about the others being dead wargs both children and humans mostlike who either created a body or took a body to live in somehow. Maybe we have some body snatchers coming in the next book lol. Either way it’s dark, scary, and super cool can’t wait!
I honestly hope it's like an Icarus story, where he gets too close to apotheosis/the ultimate goal but it backfires and destroys him in some way, not just physical death, but what if he becomes some mindless chimera like they supposedly had in Valyria.
It's actually the same source which "tricked" Bran into assuming god-like power - the Three Eyed Crow.
What if he is the one to break the wall make the long night come again just like the bloodstone empror (saw this theorie on a video) very intresting and it is actually the 3 eyed crow again just like bran
Euron will become the true hero of the story. When all is said and done, Euron's actions will result in the salvation of the world. Which will amuse Euron.
About that weirwood tree with the purple moss, I heard a theory that the trees in front of the House of the Undying might be rotten or corrupted weirwoods. The parallels _are_ there. The Shade of the Evening is similar in its effects to weirwood paste in that it's a hallucinogenic liquid. It's also blue, the opposite of red (not really, but that's the common belief and this isn't a science lesson). And when you combine blue and red you get purple. Blue like the ocean and red like blood. Both of those are in abundance around the Iron Isles and Qarth. Also, octopus blood doesn't have hemoglobin which makes it blue. Like Shade of the Evening. Bloody hands of gods and blue blood of Cthulhu sounds incredibly dangerous. That's without combining them and giving them to a sadistic, madman who grew up sexually assaulting and killing his little relatives.
Definitely a possibility. At the least, I think they *symbolize* corrupted weirwoods, and they could actually be ones as well

In it, he said he was stoked for the roll because he had read the books and COULD NOT WAIT to play an evil maniacal possible sorcerer trying to become God. When he got the scripts, he was so disappointed, so he said "fuck it, I'll just play the hell out of this douchey pirate if thats how they want it". Poor guy

I read that interview, too. The guy is a decent actor. He’s got an intimidating/slightly mad look that could’ve been utilized in a more subtle way. I think he could have pulled off the real Euron, which makes the show’s direction that much more disappointing.

Could "the shadow in woman's form with hands of pale fire" be Quaithe? She is a shadow binder and possibly using a glass candle. Could he tempt her & she accepts because she seems to want to help Dany? But then things go terribly wrong for Quaithe? GRRM does like to do the whole "I meant to do good but it turned out terrible" trope.

I love that you guys are open to all possibilities. Like Dany potentially becoming evil or at least a little “tainted”. OOTGH shoves that idea right out the window just because the show did it and they can’t seem to grasp any of the foreshadowing George has laid out for us. Could it happen? I don’t know. But to outright say “no” is the wrong way to go about it.
Has anyone else wondered about the plots and intrigue that we don’t see in the westerlands? I feel like with the death of Tywin, the Lannister’s will have a lot of problems, even in their home land.

Part of me would love to see Euron commission a new ship built entirely from weirwood, sailing on a sea of blood on a ship made from the corpses of gods while clad in Valyrian steel and commanding krakens and a dragon is a hell of an image!
I just finished my reread of A Game of Thrones and Danaerys has a HUGE vision in the flames of Khal Drogo's funeral pyre. She also recognizes that SHE is Fire, just as Bran has the dream that Jon is Ice. The lannguage of the funeral pyre is extremely symbolic, with the warlocks from the House of the Undying, either the weirwood, or the shade of the evening tree, then it shows masts of ships and great wings, as of dragons before showing the great Houses of Westeros by their sigils.
Been loving this collab. The show may be done but that doesn't mean our fav story is over! I am so much more curious about what happens in Winds that I am in any talk about HBO and their lack of realization. The ironborn are such a fascinating people I'm so glad to hear more about them and especially this evil fuck right here. Truly one of the most terrifying people in the entire series. Great job guys!

George RR Martin has a lot of Admiral Byrd references too "The Long Night" he called death Also, when the Vikings left a Greenland settlement and disappeared and the Inuit Eskimo people said that they went north to search for the mythical land of "Always Summer" and the dragon Lord who flew over Sothyros to find endless desert, jungles, forests, lakes, etc... That matches what Byrd said about his ✈️ over Antarctica after he got past the ice (when he flew over the N & S Poles) the ice shelves. Good shit

-Good- unspeakably evil and ambitious Euron. Others that talk to each other. Valonquar prophecy. Lady Stoneheart. This is gonna be awesome. I’m guardedly optimistic that we won’t have to wait ages for book 7 after book 6 is released, since I’d imagine the big challenge for George R.R. Martin (a prolific writer) is to contain the remaining story within two books. The release of Winds of Winter should be confirmation that he’s found a way to do it, and has the structure of A Dream of Spring laid out.

I don't know if Daenerys will marry Euron, but I really wish it would happen ! It seems very plausible. He is perfectly capable of charming her, even if he is not Daario in disguise (I don't think that he is, though it would be cool if he were !).
If it happens, I think it will be of Dany's free will. She already had an abusive relationship story (with Viserys, I mean), and also a forced marriage story, so it would feel redundant.
Personally I am cheering for Euron, at least he has ambition and sees big :D

Why would euron attack Old Town? Mmm, why would a pirate king, whose position depends entirely on keeping his men rich in spoils, want to attack the richest city in westeros? Not everything has to have a magical motivation, this is likely to be entirely tactical.

If only there was a seriously great Animation house to undertake a show or series of movies that was faithful to the books so we could see all this greatness from GRRM come to life (so to speak)! The budget HBO gave to D & D for 1 season would suffice to do this justice with all the Dragons, Magical creatures, Others, Golden Army and everything else that made the books WAY better! I personally think Animation would be the right format to make all the ideas, storylines and characters truly shine!

On the topic of storms and Euron *wanting* one, it's interesting that Danaerys is called "Danaerys Stormborn". Storm. Born. Hmmm. Could he want/need her to induce this storm? Hopefully he doesn't intend to sacrifice *her* along with the rest. I have no idea how euron would know about the fact that Sam has the horn. I think there is a very real chance that Euron goes full lovecraft and goes insane or kills himself in terror, it would be almost a tribute to Lovecrafts work (Humans realising things far beyond their understanding and going crazy due to it being incomprehensibly horrible is a bit of a lovecraft theme) which GRRM respects alot.
