I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but I do love that you leave in any missteps in your process. It makes your content that much more relatable to me. While none of my projects are anywhere near as ambitious as yours, I feel like all of them go comically wrong.

I’m learning to embrace my goof-ups as signs of my willingness to grow and try new things.
Pretty sure whoever follows us in this house (it has 160 years of occupation so far) will probably go “WTF?” when they observe my work, but I won’t mind . . .

It's lovely Danie! The one thing I would've done differently is paint the doors the same Cracked Pepper as the kitchen cabinets. It ties the dining room into the kitchen and the white is a pretty stark contrast against the Moroccan Spice. Love all your decor touches and the beams look great. Thanks for sharing!

@DIYDanie Honestly, I wasn't sure about the color choice, but oh my goodness! I'm in love with it! It's a beautiful warm wood tone that goes perfectly with your kitchen cabinet color. Great job, Danie! You have really great taste! Danie, you asked us what we would do differently so, personally, if it were my space and oh how I wish it was, I would paint all the window sash framing and the doors and maybe even the baseboards. Now, you got me thinking about where I want to use this beautiful warm color. Thanks for a fun video! From Melissa in the mountains of Virginia. 🙏 ❤

I have to say, I miss the sage. I wasn't done with it. But my "taste" goes in waves of like ten years so a DIYer could never wait for me to be done if I really like something 😁 However, with the new color I think I would've gone with painting the door in cracked pepper. And I really love the faux beams ☺

I really love it so much!! We're doing an accent wall in our bedroom today just using paint for now. My fiance really wanted to do cracked pepper, but I found a color by behr called catwalk that's a really deep plum black that I fell in ♡ with!! And the name omg. I'm a crazy cat lady, so yes, I'm obsessed with the color and name!! And painting this really cool solid wood headboard I found on fb marketplace that's rounded and so pretty!! Gonna paint that alpine trail from behr that's a deep olive time green, almost the same tone as my bedding!! I'm super excited!!! Love your channel!!!

  • @afroborilafemme

I LOVED the green, but it always felt disjointed from the blue cabinets to me. It looked perfect from the camera view that doesn’t include the cabinets but once you turned the camera around it was a bolder choice for sure.
This is a great update to the space. The brown still fits the space well and matches better with the blue.
And I think there’s nothing wrong with a space in your home being changed. I don’t care how in love I was with a diy project at the time of making it, if it’s not working for me, if it’s no longer serving my style or aesthetic, I change it.

It's funny cause i really loved the green at the time, but i feel like this new colour is so much better. I don't know, the earthy, rich colour just looks amazing with the black kitchen. The green was a stunning colour but this one makes it look a bit more cozy, and i feel like it's less trendy but more fitting to this specific space.
I'm always excited when you're doing a makeover/room refresh. They're my favourite videos.

Not gonna lie, my first reaction to the trim color vs the previous green was 😱😱😱. But, holy moly once it all pulled together it's *chefs kiss* perfection! The French doors in white are great (and they also would have been cool in the color of your cabinets). Another hit out of the park! That paint color is just like the one I found called "leather." My brother, myself, and two of my sons built this little plant room off the kitchen with scrap doors and windows. I needed a color that would go with the beautiful wood on the two larger windows. It is not easy to match wood because it is not one color. I found that by painting only one coat and leaving brush strokes, I was able to fool they eye, at least from a few feet. When I walk around to the addition, it really looks like the windows are all wood. But as you can see, those shelves and windows do look like wood. Beautiful color.

Danie, you have done it again! I love the more minimal look on the peg shelf and table underneath. It looked good before, but a teeny bit cluttered. Love the new stain colour on the big table. The rug underneath looks lovely and helps to warm up the space. I think you made the right decision to paint the French doors white; the contrast is perfect. I'm really glad you waited to get Geoffrey to help you with the beams. Better safe than sorry, yes? The paint colour you chose would not have been my choice, but I totally love how much YOU love it and are happy with it...and it really works in the room. Fabulous makeover, girl! Big hugs! ♥♥♥

The beams do look like they were part of the home since the beginning. I was skeptical about the Moroccan Spice - sometimes it looks like Sienna Brown (Crayola's 64 color box), but when poured in the paint tray, it looked pumpkin! The darkening of the table - great call. All-in-all just beautiful!!
Enjoy your day and have a fab weekend!!!

I loved your sage dining area so wasn't all that favorable to you changing it. But the change really works: the colors, the darker table! I love the beams, especially since they are much more subtle than the usual big ones (I love big beams also but they would have overwhelmed this area). The dining area looks like it's ready for cozy meals in a cold Canadian winter.
Seeing how much faster things went with the incredibly patient Geoff helping, I'm so impressed with how much you do totally by yourself.

If someone gave me a list of colors Moroccan spice would be probably one of the last ones I would choose. But you have done an amazing job changing my mind. The color looks beautiful in the room and you're pairing it with black and white is quite inspired. It's a lovely room with just the right balance of vintage and modern. I also love the way you use what you have and give it a twist like, restaining the table.

The colors are so warm and inviting, perfect for cozy season. I do think in Summer you'll need to add some pops of blue and/or green to the peg rack to freshen it up or it'll just look too fall/winter, but considering how far north you are it's better to have a warmer feeling color scheme than a cooler one since more of your year has cooler temperatures.

Beautiful colour. It really has added a warmth and those beams wow, they look like they have always been there. It’s amazing what a change of direction can do. Talie😊

Look forward to your videos every week, love your make over, just a small suggestion the doors to your office still dont look quite right , have you thought of putting an amber film on the glass panes. Im no expert just an idea. Loved the overall finish very warm and cosy. KEEP ON DIY-ING x luv Chris x

You did a great job! Warmer tones in a kitchen are much better than cooler tones, especially if the kitchen has north facing windows.

I loved the first reno of the dining room so I was disappointed. Until I saw the new version. I can’t believe I like it even better. Well done! Gorgeous

I love your room, that mustard brown is wonderful. And you pulled in a little black from the kitchen. Very chic Danie.
