That mural is amazing. For me it's a billion times better than buying wallpaper. I love Van Gogh however you are the ONLY person in the world to have that mural and you painted it. Sophisticated-wimsey achievement unlocked!! 💖💖💖
I wish the watermelon door color had worked out for you. The black looked good in the end, but I love the idea of a bright sunny door that greets even the cloudy, rainy days.
I think painting the door ended up transforming the space into a really chic statement area. It allows the wall to be the focal point and really shine. Good job!!!!
LOVE the mural accent wall. Seriously. If you do more in the future, could you give more tips to help people who are intimidated by painting? Or maybe suggest some beginner content to help set us up for success?
I painted a flower mural on my 4 dining room walls - I got books of flower prints from the library, made color copies of the ones I liked at the copy store, then used a projector to project (?) them on the wall and I traced them with pencil. Very easy. As far as coloring them in, I used regular acrylic craft paint, and I was glad I used flower prints as opposed to flower photographs for my inspo because then I could see what colors were used by the (professional) artist for the shadings and such. You can see my learning curve as you look around my dining room, but only if you knew to look. It was a lot of fun and I'd absolutely do it again. Very cheap (I got the projector ages ago, that would be the most expensive thing, but the library books, craft paint and basic art paint brushes are cheap), and super impactful. Also, it's just paint! You can always paint over it if you don't like it or you are moving.
I think "back entryway" is fine, but there's a funner way to go if you want. My last house (a 1924 Craftsman bungalow) had a little central hallway (about eight feet long at most!) from which one entered several rooms, and we hung there a beautiful Japanese painting on rolled paper, with a deep plummy red paint color on the wall behind it. And we called this "The Great Hall." (Always in a sonorous tone, befitting its grand gorgeousness!) Maybe your gorgeous new entryway is "The Vestibule." Or "The Garden Gate." (I mean, it does lead to the garden, right?) Or "The Arboretum." "Le Foyer Des Fleurs"? "The Pup Room"? So many possibilities!
Such a beautiful little area! The only thing I would change is the picture on the table for Kenobi’s picture! It’s his space with all his stuff so his image should definitely be on the console table! 🥰🥰🥰
That was originally my plan but the colour palette of it felt off for me. Also, It was so small and I wanted something a tad bigger there. I put the Kenobi photo back on my shelf in the living room - still a favourite of mine!
I started watching her after that yellow cabinet video and since then I'm obsessed with her videos, I love how through every video she tells a different story everytime

As soon as I wake up and open my eyes my first thought is, "It's DIY Danie Day! Time for another episode!" I love this little space! The mural is *muah* (chef's kiss), absolutely what the space needed and so glad you went bold and had fun with this area. Love it! 😍😍💜✌🎧🎶🖌🎨🛠📐👾🎮🤖👽🖖 Oh! And as for the deodorant...My favs are Palm Leaf&Bergamot, it smells fresh and clean. And Sandalwood&Fig which just smells good! It's hard to describe it. It's not a heavy sandalwood smell but it smells really good! I tried Tangerine&Citrus Blossom but it was just too flowery for me so I got another Sandalwood&Fig. Really love this product and had no issues with the return, in fact they let me keep the scent I didn't like to give to someone to try and sent my replacement for free! Awesome company to order from!
I decorated my entire lounge in your first coat of the green many years ago. I LOVED it. I put it on lightly showing the brush strokes in different directions. There's probably a name for the technique, but I have no idea what it is. Have shown this colour to my son who now believes he doesn't know his mother at all! 😂😅

I love that you made this a moment just for you. It adds such a great energy to your space. Whoo, that green scared me at first, but it came out so beautiful! I made a little landing moment at the top of the basement stairs with painted wallpaper too, and it makes me happy every time I see it. I bet this does that for you, too!
The finished wall is sooo pretty! And I love how you matched your eyeshadow to the flowers when you were painting them!! Made your eye color pop too! 😍

Danie never disappoints! I look forward to my Saturday mornings to see what she's been up to. This back entryway turned out gorgeous. It's giving me ideas for my spare bedroom, I have a wall that is in need of some inspiration.
I was a little disappointed that you had to change the color of the door but when you put it all together I think the black works so well. Your accent wall stands out so good now. You are so talented!!
I would have tried to add white to the paint to soften the "highlighter" and see if you could make it work. I just adore that combo - green/coral and the entry looks fab!
I was recently painting my bathroom. Halfway through I realized that I hated the color. All that time and progress lost, but I rather have a color I love... so back to the drawing board.
My boyfriend and I bought our first home, and is moving in July. My thoughts for our entry way is almost identical to this! The back wall is almost the same width as yours, so I was thinking about buying a beautiful green wall paper, and getting some nice, dark shelves put on. I was doubting my vision, but after seeing this I am back on track ☀️🎉
She green! And the glass of milk suddenly went all over the room and thro my nose. Not really, just a small spill. The end: really good. That door is good as black and the woodsy flowered wall- wonderful. Thank you.
Danie: Woooo Nelly, she bold, she real bold. Also Danie: The door looks neon orange! Like it's not even just like a cute pink. It's like neon! No guys, we can't... So you know what... Ya, we're gonna paint the door black. Me: Too funny! Shoulda left it on for 48 hours before painting over. As you saw it pull out the flowers color, you might have changed your mind. 😉 Also me: But black looks good, too. 😉
Love it! Got my first Native Jungalow set just few wks ago and I'm loving it so much, that ordered the mothers day pack and few bar soaps. The scents are incredible and most of all the ingredients are safe.
Comedian John Pinette coined that phrase. He is most well known as the man that the Seinfeld crew didn’t help in the final episode. He also played the Divine/John Travolta role as the mother on stage version of Hairspray. Funny guy that we lost way too soon.
@@marylhere ooo he is so funny!! "Get out of the line!" Hahaha. I was devastated when he passed but our family still quotes him a TON. I'm not sure if he coined the term "nay nay" but he definitely also used it a LOT. Miss him
Love it... as in it's very pretty. And yet, unless this entry is just for show, I'd have made a sort of mud room - that is, built in a bench with a boot tray underneath to catch the wet of boots and rain shoes, put an undivided shelf higher up with long basket for doggo on top, and two small baskets inside shelf for gloves and beanies, with hooks underneath for jackets, and I'd definitely have kept the wall painting as it makes the area. Love, love the painting. I'd have hooks for hats on the wall to the right for summer and structured hats, and kept the pegs to the left. HOWEVER, that would suit me. *laughing at myself* If it works for you, I'm glad you love it.
We did the exact same thing with the all in one stain we used on our dining room table. We used a foam brush and disliked it being all-in-one, and got splotches too! Honestly, it makes me feel better that a pro like you can make the same mistakes as us inexperienced diy'ers. ❤️ You're the best! Thanks for showing us your process.
Thanks for letting me not feeling so lame anymore for having to redo some pieces several times although measuring everything! love the final result, the pink door would have been terrible indeed ! Greetings from Switzerland
Stain in general are not used like paint with a brush or foam. In order to keep that wood texture you can use the foam brush or rag to apply and then allow the stain to penetrate before wiping off with a rag. You can do multiple layers to get the darkness you want. Without wiping it, that’s when it looks splotchy. Love the outcome of the room at the end! We all have been there and learn as we go to make new choices if you change your mind.
Omg. I was your age in my first home in the early 90s. Lived right through the dusty rose and hunter green era....and the sponging on the wall thing too........just starting your vid and I’m sceptical and in my head I’m yelling “PULL OUT PULL OUT!! ABORT ABORT ABORT!” (But now watching to see how you pull this off )...... I’ll weigh in at the endow back now. I’m not hating it. I don’t think I could be as courageous as you, but man, you are an artist girl! Thanks for all the laughs,
Having used the same stain+poly product before in a brown color, the fault is not with the brush, it's definitely the product. I brushed mine on, and every overlap showed and looked darker, so I had to be really careful on my second coat to not overlap too much. It was still uneven and the final color wasn't what I was expecting, so I eventually HATED the outcome and had to strip it which was even worse. It's worth it to just stain and then poly! LOVE the final look of this! I love that you made the console floating in such a tight space. And the mural is lovely!
The mural is reminiscent of the late 1800s fascinating with Japanese motifs which was a source of inspiration for impressionist painters and period designers in general. Those peachy orange blossoms on those lovely laced branches play well with that brilliant, jewel tone green. It is stunning aesthetic moment in an unexpected place. Brava!
Danie !! I LOVE your videos and was very excited to see you try and go for some saturated color with "Watermelon Slice". There's a great little tip for anyone who wants to be adventurous with color but still is a wee bit nervous for the "after". 1. Pick your initial saturated choice 2. Move up on your color chip one or two spots closer to the lighter end. You'll end up landing on a color that won't seem as intense once it's on your larger surface! Most paint stores that deal with contractors will also work with you to do a "percentage" of a bold color choice by simply allowing more white and adding less of the pigment "recipe".
In which we are all immature laughing at "back door entryway" and "back door mud room" 😂 I burst out laughing omg. I love this video so much. Both the creativity and the silly jokes
I just call it the back door area 🤷🏻♀️ I haven’t used it since I moved into this apartment. I haven’t done anything with it yet. Native is the only natural deodorant that actually works for me. I’m not one of those girls who “sparkles”, I sweat! I love the flowers on the wall. That console table is so pretty! I’m going to need something like it. Love you and your beautiful mind.
Interesting video today. I have been redecorating for awhile now and it is slow going. One of my favorite colors is coral and I have a bit of it as accents in my house, but I seem to not be as afraid of color. However I used a brighter coral on a side table, small dresser, and dining chair and it seemed ok, but then I put it on a mirror and when it was back up on the wall I was appalled. It looked too bright to me. So I had to go through a ton of paint chips and settled on Behr's Fireplace Glow instead and that worked. I used Before Winter on the chair, which is slightly darker. But I think I am going to paint the mirror Healing Plant because I am moving into more of a "green" moment. I live in Florida in a small beach town so color is not so rare here. When you can travel again, come on down and visit me.
This project turned out great! Love the mural - it is an Original after all. No one else has one like it. As for the discomfort and planning issues, perhaps the lesson is that getting out of your comfort zone could be a bit unsettling, but the end product is worth it. Even if it doesn't turn out the way you want, it would be a learning episode. If you recall, the guest bedroom wasn't quite what you had in mind but turned out beautifully and a room you (and your guests) like, right? I lived for far too many years with light-colored walls (renter). After a while, they were not only boring but depressing. If you look back on some of your projects, when you've put a toe into the color box you found you rather liked the result. Food for thought. :)
I would never have used these colors but I do love the “yard doggie door” entrance area. You created a beautiful spot. I have an older telephone that is an old radio. You gave me the idea to use it in a new area of my house. Thank you so much for your funny and inspirational ideas!!
Perhaps it is the “Back Hall”

ABSOLUTELY!
Me too. She could have just toned the color down a bit if it was too orange for her.
I thought the first colour did not work ,but a green a tone or two lighter than the wall would have been nice.
I was wondering if the problem was really the white walls that may the door SEEM to bright.
@@hazelmeldrum5860 I wondered what a different shade of green would have looked like as well, but I did really like the black in the end.

I’ve found that a rag is the best application method for stain + finish in one. You can rub out the splotches and have a thinner application.

Love it all I even loved the coral door. But black is safer and awesome...good job
I love this painted wall !!! It looks very art deco-y ! 😍😍😍
In which we are all immature laughing at "back door entryway" and "back door mud room" 😂 I burst out laughing omg. I love this video so much. Both the creativity and the silly jokes
The accent wall is beautiful! And the fact that you painted it yourself is very cool. Well done!
As always, you inspire me to work on my 1953 home, now I am thinking about fun and unique projects that fit me and make me happy. Thank you!
🤗🤗🤗
I seriously love your bravery in trying these things. It turned out just beautiful!
NOOOOO! I loved that color on the door! Maybe you should have tried living with it for a few days? That mural is stunning, really well done.
I loooove the hand painted over actual wall paper I feel like it modernizes it but keeps the vintage farmhouse feel
It's so great how you can laugh at your mistakes or bad just bad choices! wonderful!
The mural turned out wonderful! Much better than any wallpaper could be! I love it!
I'm a new subscriber, and I have to say... Your channel is a gem! ❤️
Thank you Chiara! That means the world xx
@@DIYDanie also, I don't know if I'm the only Italian, but anyways... You have a new sub from Italy!!!
I love that wall, the little detail made that corner beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us,
Omg I love it! I really liked the first door color, it matched the flowers, but the black is really nice too.
I would never have used these colors but I do love the “yard doggie door” entrance area. You created a beautiful spot. I have an older telephone that is an old radio. You gave me the idea to use it in a new area of my house. Thank you so much for your funny and inspirational ideas!!
I’m getting Paddington Bears family house vibes xx lush xx
Where did Kenobi’s regal portrait go?
