It's impressive how much detail they’ve packed into everything, even though with the fog, you would miss most of it. Most companies probably wouldn’t bother with that level of effort, since players wouldn’t see it anyway. In other games, if you removed the fog, you’d likely find weird or unfinished stuff that wasn't meant to be seen. But in the Silent Hill 2 remake, even without the fog, everything still looks detailed and beautiful. It's like, no one would ever notice those parts unless they used the no-fog mod, but they still put that much love into it. That’s pretty amazing.
Hmm putting a grainy filter and slightly going orange, its surprisingly looking like real life abandoned town or run down town would be or a Jacob’s Ladder set.
Fun fact. The fog was added to the original game because PS1 couldn't handle the render distance. It was so popular and made the game much more terrifying (because you could hear the monsters but you couldn't see them) that it later became a core element of the games.
@@jwalster9412 Battle simulators and strategic games have it, under the terms "Fog of war". But it has abstract origin, because it means a situational and strategic uncertainty over the enemy.
It's truly a testament on how good the Unreal engine 5 is. Usually, lighting up horror videogames tends to put on the spotlight all of the imperfections the darkness is trying to hide, but with this game, it still looks really really good.
With the fog present, I dread not knowing what lies beyond every 5 metres. Without the fog, I constantly feel alone and vulnerable, seeing all the deserted buildings around me, as far as the eye can see. Both are great for playing the game. 😄

It is, imo it's a central character to the game. But this is still a very cool and interesting video though. Not an argument that the fog should be removed.
The town with no fog reminds me a lot of the Silent Hills Playable teaser's ending when the main character leaves the building and we get a glimpse of the town outside during the night.
Maybe someone can make a nighttime mod with streetlights on to make it look like that? There is a nighttime section in the game after the hospital but that's too scary.
Waiting for that one hater / troll to say that Silent Hill 1 and Resident Evil 2 PS1 looks better than this remake. But, to be fair, Bloober team did an outstanding job. The environment looks absolutely perfect!
Game needs a "No Fog Mode" *AFTER you complete a 1st playthrough* of the game, so you can actually see everything and appreciate the new detail and art even more.
They should have given a fog slider that goes from 0 to 100 where 0 is no fog, 50% is the remake standard 70% is original sh2 standard and above that is literally an incredible foggy day where you can only see 1 meter around you when you reach 100%

It reminds me of my city when it rains or it's autumn It helps a lot that people are very lazy to remove their cars that no longer work from the street and that the government never paves the road properly.
on second thought though. they should probably add that officially as an options toggle. i would even pay extra for that, maybe it could come with the Maria DLC. I think it would be a good business decision for them too.
I think the fog resembles the mental state of the main character like he is forgetting something or denying something or hiding something and I was right about it 😊
the fog adds a layer of mistyque and transcendence to every scene, it makes the environments feel a lot bigger than what they really are. without it silent hill is just hill with shambling homeless people walking around.

Not gonna lie, Silent Hill looks like a comfortable town to live in, if there were no satanic cults and old gods living in there
Within the lore of the game it is a tourist city so it makes sense
satanic cults and old gods ? All the made up Abrahamic cults? The desert one or the once who nailed someone.

That is actually true because it's part of Jame's psych

if you have the first poerson mod theirs deffo momments of it looking like that game, but the PT ending did have fog it was just much more faint

Don't think it works as a mode since you can see all the bits that were just clearly not modeled without the fog. Just looks unfinished at that point
is there a mod to "normalize" the town? like, no monsters and no creepy anything. that way we see James as just a psychopath

Must be painful to sacrifice all the beautiful details and cover those with fog. Yet the devs did it for the core theme of the game. Great work.
Man ngl, without the fog it looks super great, but it also removes the mystery of not knowing what you will find.
Now we need a reconstruction mod where it fix and renovate all the abandoned buildings and make silent hill look like a normal city
The fact that they didn't use the fog to optimize the graphic instead it hides actual graphics is mindblown.

Very nice detail. Well done and thanks for sharing. I still prefer the fog because it's part of the game's personality.
That lumen really makes environments look photo real
Even with the fog removed, the place looks eerie as hell
the fully RT Global Ilumination is what makes it look so real (even if its also what tanks performance).

I’d love to see the regular town vs the otherworld version.
Mary was right. If the sky is clear and the town is a bit well maintained, it would look so beautiful.
This is basically Western/Central Pennsylvania on a nice winter's day.
Honestly, there should like a cheat mode option to toggle the fog off after completing the game. The game still looks good without it. lol
Without the fog, there appears to be no depth of field, and the sky looks overexposed. It’s too bright. 😁👍
