    Thanks a bunch for this, my bike is so much smoother to ride, the front dederailleur is much nicer to shift than the old one. She'll be back again for another service.

    Another wonderful video! A freshly waxed chain is so smooth and quiet.
    Noticed you use a string/cord when waxing. Is that easier than a “swisher” or a coat hanger?

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We like it just because it comes on a roll! Easy to put away, easy to get out, easy to bin, a coat hanger will work just as well though🧡

      For us, chain waxing is awesome but we are a bike shop. So it’s not so hard for us to maintain waxing chains, definitely if you can afford to upkeep of chain waxing it’s the way to go🧡

    Interesting! I recall in a previous video you didn't wax/lube/powder a chain because you said it was new. But this time you did. I'm curious what prompted the change.

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don’t oil new chains as the ones we buy come oiled in a packet. This customer wanted chain waxing so we actually degreased the oil that was on the chain to then swap it for wax🧡

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We actually haven’t, we’re not the most central bike shop and the nearest bike dealer to us is Giant so we work on plenty of Shimano!🧡

  • @Robert-R
    @Robert-R 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What grease(s) do you recommend and for which applications? I noticed you used several different types. The copper based anti-seize used on threaded fasteners I recognize, and I use that myself. But looking for some good greases for bearings and other dynamic areas.

    Morning guys, loved watching your videos from the start - great job! Looking for some advice - my 105 5700 right shifter snapped and it no longer goes down the gears. Can you still get them new? I can only find used which is probably a risk! Looking at a new winter bike to replace the current (2012 Giant Defy 1) but this seems a waste just for a shifter. What would you advise? Cheers!

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tiagra ST-4700 is the current Shimano 10 speed and will work perfectly fine with the remaining 105 10 speed components.

      @@Bikespeeds thanks very much for taking the time to reply! Much appreciated.

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I learnt today that this will not work with the old 10 speed derailleur it has the same pull rate at the newer 11 speed so you’ll need a modern generation 11 speed derailleur (running your 10 speed cassette and shifter to get it working. Check cross compatibility with your retailer to confirm)

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That really does depend on many things, mainly the wether, but you’ll know when it’s time, the chain will just look and feel dry

  • @DangerAmbrose

    Don't you true the wheels with a standard service? I would think you would at least check for trueness in the stand.

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We check the trueness, and check everything, but if something doesn’t need doing on camera we don’t show us checking it in the videos, we did true a wheel last week I think it was so that’s worth a watch!

  • @onegrapefruitlover

    Yesterday I was tinkering with my bike and while removing the chainrings from the cranks my grasp slipped and the chainring’s teeth went into my hand.
    I needed a few stitches and can’t put my bike back together :(

    Once again, another great video. I was just wondering is there anyway you could do a whole video specific on hydraulic brake bleeding, I keep trying and just scared I'll mess something up. Anyways thank you for the weekly entertainment - greatly appreciated 👍🏽

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’ve always tried to steer clear of “how to” content as we don’t claim to be experts, the tricky bit with hydraulics is every system being different but we always showcase different bikes so we might end up doing the one you have if that helps!🧡

    Find one person who is willing to let you film the first pedal strokes after you're done. That video will be the most viewed on the channel if it ends with someones smiling face knowing their bike is the same as when they first got it. The dirtier the bike the better!

I wish their was a bikeshop like your that cares about the bike and costumer. all bike shop near me all they do is charge you for no reason and not the greatest service so that why I do my own work on my bike. 👍👍love from NYC.
