One of the most unique things about the guitar is that you can play it as a solo instrument.
Guitarists like to play solo either as part of a song or as an entire performance.
The solo jazz guitar albums in this list span the last 50 years.

Then there's Pasquale Grasso.. I warn you he is no man, but a beast from the realms
Ted Greene Solo Guitar would be a good addition particularly where the idea is to teach chord melody. Derek Bailey is an interesting choice. Not available on Spotify, at least here in the US, but on Amazon and iTunes.
He’s well worth the extra effort to listen to! I liked that Ted Greene record.
It's a shame Bill Frisell has never really done an album in the style of his solo performances on the Fretboard Journal. Some of my favourite ever guitar playing on there.
Good list. I also recommend "Reckless Precision" by Tuck Andress and "Solo" by Peter Bernstein.
Thank you! I forgot about Bernsteins solo record.
Hi, love this video. I agree on Joe Pass and Peter Bernstein. Solo albums are not that frequent among my favourite guitarists. I would definitely add Kenny Burrell “Tenderly : Solo Guitar Concert (Live in Pasadena) “ and Frank Vignola “Blues for a gipsy”. Cheers!
Thanks for the kind comment and suggestions!
that kenny burrell album is just stunning
I need to get that!
Thanks, Jamie. lnteresting list. Mine would include George van Eps and Martin Taylor.
Excellent choices Robert!
Thanks for inspiration, good video
My personnal favorite Solo Album is "Bucky Pizzarelli - Love Songs"
There is also the album "Solo Flight" by Bucky Pizzareli
and "Solo ballads vol.1" by Pascal Grasso
Excellent choices!
Not strictly a "Jazz Guitar" album, but "Images of Metheny" by Jason Vieaux is remarkable.
Surprised no mention of Johnny Smith? I know he never released an album of solo guitar tunes, but he always had one or two solo chord melody tracks. His playing and arrangements are beautiful.
I tried to keep the list as strictly solo albums but I agree about his arrangements and playing. One of my favourites who I must include in a video at some point
thanks @@jamieholroydguitar going to check out some of those solo albums i have not got!! Great video😎
The Man with the Blue Guitar is JS's solo album
solo guitar is the reason I play. a few of my faves other than the ones on your list:
george van eps - soliloquy
ted greene - solo guitar
john stowell - resonance
kenny burrell - tenderly (a live solo guitar album, this one in particular is amazing)
most of pasquale grasso's discography? 🤣
jonathan stout is also someone who's carrying the torch for that eddie lang/alan reuss style!
Excellent list! Thanks for your comment
Andreas Öberg's "Solo" album from 2005 is also worth checking out!
Great player!
Here is a list of some great other solo guitar albums, even if some of them can’t be considered as jazz albums :
Ted Greene - Solo Guitar
Guinga - Roendopinho
Earl Klugh - Naked Guitar
Riccardo Chiaron - Quiet Stories
Lenny Breau - Cabin Fever
Yamandu Costa - Mafuá
Stephen D. Anderson - Remembering the Rain
Pat Metheny - One Quiet Night
Thanks for your recommendations!
Thanks for this ! One of the best for me is Soliloquy by George Van Eps.
No problem! I love GVE’s playing
Always love a good tip 🧐
Micah 🏴
Thanks!
Lenny Breau - Cabin Fever
Great record, can’t believe I forgot that one!
The Kreisberg record is amazing.
Thank you for the tip.
I'd be interested to know your opinion of Martin Taylor, Pat Metheny, and John McLaughlins playing Jamie.
All three very different players, but all three very skilled.
I like all three of those players.
Haha I love ballads.
Such an underrated player!
👍 I discovered him and that record via David Sylvian!
