This video is my tribute to Wes Montgomery.
Like every other jazz guitarist, Wes is one of my favorites.
In this lesson I am going to give you a few tools to help you learn Wes’ trademarks.
Rather than licks or specific solos, I am going to give you concepts.
Concepts are usually more useful than just lines alone.
    So, let’s get into it.
    0:00 Introduction
    0:49 Signature Technique
    2:07 Harmony
    4:58 Phrasing
    6:27 Putting It All Together
    7:28 Final Thoughts

At 2:10 in the video you refer to Barry's minor sixth diminished scale. The scale you actually played is Ab6 diminished scale (you just started on the F) The F minor 6th diminished scale consists of the 4 notes of F minor 6 (F Ab C D) and the 4 notes of G diminished (G Bb Db E) When you put them together you have the F minor 6th diminished scale.

I'm amazed and surprised by the sound of your telecaster, as if it was doubled by an hollow body

Thanks. I did actually dub it with an archtop on the opening demo (long story) but the rest is all Telecaster.

Use of the thumb is only cumbersoms for a time...once you ditch the pick, you'll never go back!...also it forces you to edit your playing as well as play horizontally

Love the sounds, thumb and fingers are what I use so I really smiled when I saw, Wes Montgomery starter pack. Do you have more about playing with thumb only. Thanks

Thanks Stuart, glad you liked the lesson. Nothing more on playing with the thumb yet I’m afraid.

Thanks Jamie, an excellent lesson in a short amount of time. How did you get a fat jazz tone out of that gorgeous Tele?

    • @jamieholroydguitar
      @jamieholroydguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you for the kind words! The short answer is a lot of practice and the longer answer is that I made a video on how to get a jazz tone from a solid body.
