You tackled a difficult subject here Jamie. Currently digging Mike Stern's Odds or Evens album 👍

haha when i saw this the first thing i thought of was whether or not you would notice the mistake in rosenwinkel's solo. ive always thought it must be, then he repeats it to try to make it sound like not a mistake, classic jazz philosophy.

Good list but I think there are much better solos out there. For example - Pat Metheny on Have You Heard. George Benson on Billies Bounce. JImmy Bruno's Impressions. Scofield on Sunny (live with Pat Martino). Pat's solo is also great.

Rene Thomas and no Jimmy Raney? What would Doug Raney say about that? Heard that Doug got punched in the face for calling Rene a copycat. Never mind, they were ALL great guitarists. Honestly, I thought that Rene had digested the best from the bebop of Raney and Farlow and combined it with the best from hardbop of Grant Green and Wes Montgomery. Speaking of Wes, that solo on "No Blues" from "Smokin'" is quite iconic as well. Everyone from Pat Metheny to Barry Greene talks about that solo. I dunno if there is a more swing jazz guitar solo ever recorded--it's quite perfect.
