I used to work with the Georgia Department of Transportation as a construction Inspector. They gave us little single cab Ford Rangers to go to the job site. They were uncomfortable, they rode rough. You could not kill them though. They would go forever. It was not unusual to see one with 280,000 miles and not use oil or smoke. Great little trucks.
You made a really wise choice man. I have a 2011 sport 4x4. Parts are really inexpensive. Flush all the fluids, do the plugs, wires, thermostat and belts (unless done already) and you will be set for a few years. Having no carpet is very nice. I am gonna drive mine till the wheels fall off.
You got a great piece of ford there, my boy. I own virtually the same truck from '08 and i love it. I have a few upgrades to wake up that little three that you can diy for not a lot of money. Cai, tuned exhaust and a mild chip tune take it from its stock 155 to around 190, but the real difference is it is fun to drive. Take care of it and itll never let you down. Enjoy!
I just purchased one in August 2024 Canada. A 2006 Ford Ranger with 18,000 miles on it. It was stored, and only driven to keep all the fluids operational. My mechanic checked all the fluids including coolant and I had a compression test on the engine. Everything is in perfect condition without any rust anywhere above or below. It's like you just drove it off the sales lot.
Have 2003 Edge, 169000 miles. have had it for 12 years. Ball joints, battery and brakes tires. fluid flush on the pumpkin. mine is a manual and put a new clutch in 150,000. replaced the radiator and hoses and shocks. Been a great vehicle and always tell people they are great. Have had three since 97' and all three engines(2.3,4.0 and 3.0) You made a good choice and with regular maintenance expect 300,000 miles. Cannot stress enough 5w20 mobil 1 full synthetic and 5000 mile changes.
Pretty nice truck bro. Should be good for you as long as you don't get snow. It's crazy how much they cost these days. I bought my 2000 Ranger xlt 4x4 off road with flex fuel and a stick back in 2010. It had 116k miles and I paid $4,500. I've had it for 13 years now and drive it 900 miles at a time (one day) four times a year. 256k now and I've put four sets of tires on. Those bf tires are sweet but not really necessary without four wheel drive. Hankook makes good looking all terrain for half the price and they are just as good. Have fun!
I bought a 2008 Ford Ranger XL with camper shell from the original owner. The seats were like brand new!!..beautiful two tone upholstery. The owner always kept seat covers on the seats. This is a good sign..it gives the impression that the owner took good care of this truck..which he did..there wasnt any dents or damage of any kind anywhere. It had 113,500 miles on the odometer with a 4.0L V6 engine. I paid $7000 for it 5 months ago. I've never had to have anything repaired or replaced yet. It's been a great reliable truck.
Bought a 2008 Ford Ranger FX4, Off Road, 5 speed with 4:10 positrac diffs, front and rear in 2010 with 51,000Km. Took it to 320,000 km, mostly highway. Had some top end issues, lost compression on #2 cylinder. In 2024, January, I put in a new (crate) V6, 207hp. Cost me less than a rebuilt motor. Total bill just under $11,000 CDN. Money well spent. Market value now is worth approximately $22,000 CDN give or take. It's now worth more than I paid for it and it's 16 years old. Little to no rust. My Baby.
I have a red 2004 edge V6 4.0 now with 235k miles and still going strong. People can’t believe it’s 20 years old and compliment on the look; I always brag about the mileage. Didn’t have anything crazy wrong with it besides normal: Stay good to it and it will be loyal to you.
I own both a ‘09 Ranger and a ‘05 F-150 as part of my collector vehicle stable, and to be honest with you, I actually enjoy driving the Ranger much more than the F-150 because of its smaller size! Now keep in mind that all of my collector vehicles are absolutely pristine, and even with that being said I am always amazed how much love and attention the little Ranger gets! Part of it is it’s condition for sure (most Rangers from this era are reaching the age where they are getting pretty run through) but even with that being said, every time I have it out I get comments from people who love the way it looks and who miss trucks that aren’t so over-sized like most of today’s models! Hope it’s still a good rig for you - the 3.0 is the only downside just because it offers the poorest combination of power v fuel economy…….😐
Love that term "collector vehicles". I have my collection as well including an 05 edge 3.0 manual, and yes it is reliable and functional, but not pristine. My collection includes 2 Isuzu Troopers and 2 Lexus LS classics...I love old classics. Don't make um like they used to...
5:205:225:24 i had a 1996 Ford Ranger that i bought in 1999 it had a 3.0 V6 with 5 speed, i got 23-24 MPG consistently, flat, uphills,.downhls, loaded, and empty. I sold it in 2014 still ran like a top had almost 400,000 miles on it when i sold it. 3.0 isnt a powerhouse but theyre very reliable.
Nice truck they are fantastic truck's I've owned a 1990,03,04,05 my daily driver which is 04 loaded 4 door bought new with 32 miles and today at 332,449 miles all originall miles that runs great. So they can and they do keep Toyota on it's toes
I have a 2001 4 cylinder 2.3 L xlt. Only 72k miles. Its going to be my daily deiver. Paint's a little rough and has some minor dents. Im going to enjoy fixing it up. My stoage space is going to be stuffed with subs.
Hey bro great video I'm happy to see you super excited for your first vehicle and that you're on your way to college. Just curious now that you've done the video a year ago, do you still have the truck and are you still happy with it? I'm looking As well but for my retirement gig in a few years. Cheers from Canada
The Sport logo on the Ranger, is not just a sticker, it denotes that it has the heavy duty suspension, that can take a lot of weight, in the box, and has a larger towing capacity, and limited slip differential.
Not true. You could have got the sport in many configurations. None came with heavy duty suspension. You could get the 3.0 v6 or the 4.0 v6. Most of them came with open differentials and 3.55 gears. You could add a limited slip diff as an option though.
I've got a factory ordered '08 with 5.0/5 speed/2wd. The extra space of the extended cab is only really useful on the four door. When I ordered mine I deleted the jump seats and got a reduced price.
Got my 2011 sport rwd with 69k miles for $15.7k. Also the best SUV I've owned was a 2010 Escape XLT 3.0 V6 4WD and it was amazing, got rid of it at 128k miles, bought it for $12k with 79k miles on it.
Bro ive owned 2 of them! A regular cab long bed 2007 which looked like yours style wise! Also had all terrain tires but mine had a bedliner with a toolbox and 3 inch lift. Was a sharp truck very basic XL model had the 4cyl 2.3 great on gas wish had it now especially 👍. My 2nd one was a 2000 XLT 3.0 V6 supercab also 2wd. It was cheap and very reliable as well cannot go wrong with these Rangers but unfortunately that one had a flaw the rear frame was rotted out near the shackles and leaf springs area so always look at frame too! Dealer took it back finally after a bad verbal breakdown with them was a safety issue and was a $2200 dollar truck that looked too good to be true for the price and most likely was a former flood vehicle. So be careful. I found out they were a shady dealership they knew what they were doing to ppl. So with any vehicle used BE CAREFUL PURCHASING!!! But those trucks are great trucks and yours looks well preserved for the year just have the frame oil coated every year and same with the underside and wax it and keep up oil changes every 3000 miles especially on that 3.0V6 it should stay nice for you and keep it as these are rare now! Maybe eventually herciliner the inside bed it'll make it more durable and protect it if you decide to haul stuff. Happy 4th to you as well
I got me an 05 3.0 2wd edge super cab with 84k just last year, sadly spent a bit much on it considering i had to replace the transmission right after buying it. Otherwise its great, really easy maintenance so far.
The biggest difference between your sport Ranger and the regular Ranger . Is that the Sport came with the same suspension and ride height as the four-wheel drive . I have a 2003 Ranger Edge , and it's basically the same thing . Two-wheel drive , but with the same torsion bar suspension that the four-wheel-drive got . Regular two-wheel-drive Rangers have coil spring front suspension .
Hows the gas on these things? Like as in trucks…. Hows your edge? I was thining of the ford ranger sport. I have one near me for 6k clean title. 150 k miles. I just dont know about gas. I never had a truck before. Would i be way better off with regular cab? Or toyaota?
Nice range r I want the same look for mine wheels also. I bin looking for a ranger for about 2 years I was not in a hurry..i found a 2002 xlt extended cab jus like yours ..i got a 4 cylinder with manual trans ..i love it.. I had to replace the clutch ..they sold it for that reason.. But the wheel size is what I like to know.. Is it 15X8?
Dude im a freshmen in college tryna get my first car and these trucks are way too valuable for there price nobody in thier right mind woukd sell them is it possible fornme to still buy one in good condition?
I’ve heard these v6 engines suffer from head gasket failure and the timing belt usually has to be replaced along with it. Is this something that anyone here has dealt with ? I’m leaning towards the 4 cylinder since I have heard the engine is sturdier.
I heard SOHC is what to be wary of. But my truck is 2004 4.0 with that engine. Just watched a break down of one of those engines. My experience: no issues. 235k mi. so far and still strong. No unusual noise ticks slaps chirps. Not burning or smoking. Be good to it with keeping up with maintenance which is not high maintenance at all, and it’s good to you in my experience. I love this truck and will keep it until it disowns me.
I’m no expert, but I have been researching these trucks and am thinking about buying one. The 4 cylinder model is tough to come by in my area. From what I understand the v6 engines suffered from that problem more so in the early 2000’s. This was true for the sport trac as well. 2010 was near the end of production for this model and I would be more comfortable buying a low mileage ranger with a v6 in the 2010-11 model years.
Probably should have mentioned the engine options and towing capacity. No mention of where to look for rust such as the front “A” arm mounts. KBB is also way off. One 1999 was valued at $3800 and the used car dealership wants $8k with mustang wheels. It’s nice and all but geeze!
lol you can get a great 99-08 ranger for under 5 easily. Maybe a little more cosmetic problems but nothing you can’t take care of. 8 grand on anything earlier then 07 with more then 100k miles is absurd
In most of the country yes, but I happen to be in California where it is even more expensive. In fact, now you can’t get a Ranger here under 10,000 dollars with the mileage and year of mine. I just want to reaffirm I am completely satisfied with my purchase, and in today’s market here in California it is actually true that I underpaid.
Bro don’t mean to bust your bubble but you the 3.0 is the he worst engine from the ranger , 4.0 or 2.3 manual are the ones to go with, but hopefully it does last you looks sick for sure

What size rim (wheel) are those?
What size tire is that?
Cool truck, what tire size is that? Lifted by how inch
You're very lucky for sure. I would love to find one just like this. I'm looking on Facebook marketplace.
Mine rides rough even with new struts. How about yours?
20mpg?
My '04 FX-4 Ranger gets around 13 combined...the extra liter makes quite a difference, lol.
What is the wheel/tire combination? Wheel size and brand, and the tire size?
if it doesn't have it, put in an 8.8 inch rear axle with limited slip.
not a lot of money and you won't be sorry.
Bro what size of tires and wheels you have in your truck i have same truck and i like how you that wheels and tires look
