- The Alfa Romeo Junior (ex Milano) is Alfa Romeos first all electric car and is one of the most import cars in the companies history. Can this all electric cross-over compact SUV really have the essence of an Alfa Romeo ? Can it be an Alfa Romeo for the masses ? Can it be a hit with the Alfisti ?

An Alfa that looks like a Peugeot with a Peugeot engine and with not the most recognizable part of Alfa Romeo the Scudeto, is not an Alfa no matter how many Biscione symbols have on it. Simple as that :)

Number plate not being central is what makes it instantly recognisable as an Alfa Romeo.
It's beautiful. But it's an EV. Surely there's a nice peppy petrol engine within the group.

I’m a committed petrol head. I dislike EV’s. BUT - time is running out on ICE’s and like it or not for simple day to day transport we the public will be forced into ZEV’s.
So on that basis alone, I would keep my ICE as a weekend toy but for commuting I would want something like the Alfa. I think it looks stunning. I’ve pre-registered for one, and that’s saying a lot for me!

Ah, Toyota and Mazda are 15% of world sales. Add Suzuki about 17-18%.
All three are going hybrid not EV, and Toyota have been making H-ICE since the 1980's.
How did Tossler get so big? Apart from Musk's bullshit, they installed charge points.
If you don't think Toyota are big and rich enough to licence a hydrogen pump at every third or fourth garage, you need to think again. They are, and if they do it, EV's will begin to die out overnight.
Any vehicle that runs an IC engine can be converted to Hydrogen, and Toyota/Suzuki/Mazda offered new build H-ICE cars will cut the legs off EV cars on price, regardless of how much governments are prepared to shaft taxpayers to subsidise EVs.

You've clearly not thought this through: the "majority" of people in the UK - and in most European countries for that matter - are precluded from owning an EV because they haven't got a drive to park it on or anywhere to reliably charge it.
Drive down any street of turn-of-the-century terraced housing and explain where the charge points will be, and how you'll use it when you have to park 200 yards from your own house, which is a regular situation in towns and cities with older housing stock..
This is ignoring how electricity is actually produced, which is another can of worms - but it's niether free, nor is it clean.

I have owned 7 Alfa Romeos over the years and I like this, it doesn’t have enough range to be my main car but I would like one as a second car along side my Tesla.

Ok its an EV...so what...times change, remember overhead valves? tappets? Tech moves on ya know? Difficult to judge its actual size, but you referred to it as a smallish hatch. I'd love to have another Alfa, and when my JCW finally gets moved on, this could be a contender. Thanks Ped!

Believe it or not...this OAP actually LIKES this car. It's electric, and it's tiny...yet its styling is so interesting. Given the platform, that 33 Stradale stylist really did well with it.
All of my cars have been front-drivers...including my old Lancia, so this Junior being FWD is no real turnoff to me.
The infotainment screen is delightfully...ignorable. It wouldn't force me to stare at it...or make me want to rip it out and fling it out the window.
I really look forward to learning what you think of the driving experience.
If this car magically popped in my (eleven-years-empty) garage, and I could drive it here, the traffic MIGHT let me get it up to 45 MPH. If it rained, I'd stay dry for once. Yet...this characterful little runabout would be at home in traffic-choked Honolulu. Aloha.

Hello Peter! Well firstly the production quality of this film is beautiful and you have put a great deal of thought into the creation…it is not an easy job to provide an interesting and detailed commentary without hesitation or umms…anybody dismissing that should just try and do it! Your old job taught you well!
The car…it is sad to see the anger in many of the comments between people who seem unable to think with reason and control. Not all ICE engines are or were wonderful and many were not good to drive despite some rose tinted recollections. I’m new to using electric power but the smooth delivery and effortless feel ADDS not detracts. What this car is can best be described as a very stylish version of an EV and that makes it special…and if they get the handling, steering and suspension right, then it will be worthy of the Alfa name and be better than many Alfa’s that have gone before…or have the angry fans forgotten the Arna?? Well done Peter…now get one for test and maybe give the doubters and haters a bit of a surprise!!😀😀😀😀Richard.

Love it, absolutely love it. Buying one for me would mean a 120km drive to my nearest dealer for services etc, but I'm more than willing to accept that. This will be Alfa number 6 for me, I love it. I don't know how much it'll cost in Ireland, but it don't care, I'll be back in an Alfa

Lovely front and rear but the side with the plastic wheel arch trim really removes its appeal. But being an EV it’s a no no anyway.

I've had loads of Alfas, a Sud, couple of 2:00 33s, 75, a 90, GTVs, Sprint, 155 and a 159, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy an electric one....just not sure it would be this specific car
Top quality production with this film, Ped! I actually really like the ‘Junior’ - just the right amount of unique Alfa detailing to make it stand out from all the other small EV hatchback/SUV cars. Brave detailing on the wheel spokes, to go with 4 spokes - not many manufacturers can get away with this number, usually 5 spokes looks better. Looking forward to seeing you road test this little gem, even though it isn’t made in Italy!

I quite like the distinctive Alfa design feature where that's not the case. It suits my left-hand drive Brera perfectly!

Great video Ped…keep the good work up! I sort of get why “Alfa-nuts” would get in a spin for this being an EV and it being on the same platform as a Corsa EV. However it does look modern and sporty, and in this day and age it does look the part. 3 years time will be sub-£20K, so probably will be an excellent 2nd hand choice

How are Italians going to charge this car? Most of them live in apartments in old medieval cities, without garages. All they can do is park the car on the street.
They will drive the petrol one, with light hybrid.
I don't think many italians will buy this car. This is a mass market pegeout 208 sell like a premium car. If Alfa Romeo's goal in the words of Stellantis should be to counter brands like BMW, this car was not to be imagined. Products like this detract from the brand and drive away high-spending potential customers.
Beautiful car,rebadged astra agree with the gear selector, hope it looks as good as it does on the road, needs to be priced accordingly to appeal for the masses

OK, having had an Alfa essentially on my driveway since 1990, I was resigned to driving my last, currently a Giulietta QV. It's not because I am anti EV, it's because I loathe SUVs
When I saw the first pics of the then Milano, I was devastated......oh no, another friggin' compact SUV. That's it Alfa, you are dead to me.
But the more I see these more detailed videos the more I think "well it seems not too bad, if it drives like an Alfa, could be a maybe"

The design of the Junior is probably nice, but the problem is the PureTech Peugeot engine, or electric engines.

Great video. Shame about the power train. If they don’t bring the petrol hybrid to the UK they will completely lose support of the Alfisti. Which is why I say they will bring it to the UK. Even if it is when they realise it isn’t selling as well as they hoped. I sort of like it 💚🤍❤

I love it! Yes I am an Alfisti and I do wish we get the hybrid here in blighty. That instrument binacle is brilliant, Im not a fan of the slab screens that have been replacing these of late. We all would have wanted Alfa to release a low slung coupe; but just like the old Land Rover - the question is, will we actually buy it in great numbers? This way sales are guaranteed!

I've owned 2 Alfa Breras. Beautiful, fun cars. This looks like a small hatchback in Alfa red with logos. With an odd, American sounding name. Nice under studio lighting, but on a grey rainy day in the UK? Not impressed.
Good looking car but that WLTP range is a worry. The idea that a petrol engine give a car soul is one I find baffling. More of these interestingly designed cars please.

Great presentation and production Pete. The Junior …. Not crazy about the name despite the history, however the design is at least its differential versus other jelly mould EVs.
Great video and nice looking car. Still not convinced BEV is the panacea that some suggest but understand why Alfa have to join the movement. Out of interest, how much of electricity production in the UK is currently renewable?
Currently around 41% with Nuclear at around 15% 👍
I’ll wait till Alfa makes something more like the ev version of the Hyundai i20n . I don’t mind electric or fwd but the small suv dimensions put me off.
A neighbour has a Vauxhall Corsa E, also in red, which looks very similar from the side and rear.
Nice looking car, as is the Alfa Junior, with a sensible compromise between power and range rather than trying to beat some dragstrip record.

The rear spoiler area that wraps over the tail lamps (so not roof spolier) reminds me of the rear of the Spider, circa 1970s. Looks good, better in flesh im sure

Guess a lot went into the production of this one, well done. With regard to the car must await detailed driving review. As you are aware many of us are still very sceptical of Net Zero, the costs and enforced implementation. So excuse me if I reserve judgement.😉
Great review on design. I had to get used to it .. a lot.. but now I must admit, it is growing on me. IMO it could have done with the three led light on the top of the head light and leave the vertical one and the one under the headlights. This is too complex. But other than that I really start to like it.

PP I have to agree with you this is a good start at Alfa becoming EV a few compromises but stilll has a healthy Alfa look and I assum feel
Very nice looking car but no doubt they will be too expensive new so I'll be waiting until they are 2-3 years old before I could consider one to replace our current 22 plate Kona EV which is a similar size by the looks of it. That WLTP range is a bit low compared to our 64kWh Kona but we could probably live with it. I will reserve final judgement until used models & driving reviews are available.
I had a 156 Twin Spark Lusso in Black with Red Leather back in the day as a company car. Loved it.

Great review. Like the change in style, bit ‘edgy’ . EV is a fact of life and I like that you try to balance content. I am not a fan of EV’s per se but like to know what’s going on as the reality is that in the not too distant future….. anyhoo, still need to get a v8, v10 and v12 out of the veins before I succumbed to battery power.

great video, dramatic in many ways.....hoping the stellantis underpinnings have not blunted the driving experience, a good start and somehow the more i see of it, the less problem i have with the front end..(which I guess is usual). also really like the bonnet lip/gap which i hadnt picked up previously. Absolutely no issue with it being an EV either.

EVs are enjoyable, just in a different way. Petrol was great but the time has come to move on. Like moving on from smoking in restaurants, it's entitled and arrogant not to consider impacts on others.

If it drives significantly differently to a Fiat 600 or Jeep Avenger then Alfa Romeo may have succeeded. Porsche did it with the Taycan versus the Audi e-tron GT so it is possible.

EV drivetrain is not the problem for me. There are anyway no more proper Petrol engines anymore arround.
Its the design. It screams Alfa Alfa Alfa with that many emblems and a well designed Alfa does not need to scream. The other issue I have is the scudetto. A more traditional one would improve the design a lot.
I am curious about the sales numbers. The prices are ambitious for the Veloce. Thats almost Model 3 Performance territory
Great presentation and production. Apart from a small boot, the car looks superb but (sorry), a 200 mile range on the top spec, so that’s probably a disappointing 170 miles in the real world. Alfa Romeo please put a new hybridised 2ltr Twin Spark engine in it! The fact that you didn’t comment on pricing, (maybe it wasn’t available yet for the UK), suggests to me that the EV version will be well over £40k which if this car wants to appeal to the masses that will be a non starter for most. Assuming it drives ok, price it at £32k for the base Junior and say £36k for the Veloce and you will get a lot more interest. Still a lot of money but would be more appealing at that level. Price it at over £40k and Alfa Romeo will make the same mistake that Lotus have made with their overpriced EV. Customers simply won’t buy into the marketing hype which will significantly damage the brand and revenues, even though Stellantis has deep pockets. You’ve only got to look at the desperation from the motor industry at the moment when it comes to shifting EV’s to see how this could play out if pricing isn’t right.
Target price for the EV is Sub €30k 👍
I own an Alfa still, this looks more like an compact SUV than an hatchback, always enjoyed the licence plate on side but since rhe grill is smaller doesn't make sense now

You are kind of looking at it. Battery size is a small as can be but at he same time give acceptable range.

I see that all kinds of guys are commenting nonsense, yes alfists, mnee, mnee, it's not an alfa, blah, blah, it's a stellantis car, yes it is, otherwise Alfa Romeo could disappear altogether, even now they don't have much sales , this is the reality, Giulia, Stelvio even Tonale, they are expensive cars, they have competition, with Junior they also try something else, affordable, practically, to exist
Looks great, but regular Alfas are already beset with electronic/technology gremlins, so sod owning one which relies entirely on electronics/technology.
Vey well shot and presented video Alfa needed to make an ev in the line-up with them committing to it by 2027. This i think wont do well. Especially if its overpriced. Itll drive well i think and the interior looks nice but I think the range real world will be 150 miles which i think it needs a bigger battery.
