    Alfa Romeo has revealed the new Junior, a compact SUV with a fully electric powertrain based on the Fiat 600e and Jeep Avenger. Originally given the name Milano, it was changed to Junior at the 11th hour following legal action by the Italian Government, which claimed that the Polish-built model can’t bear the name of an Italian city if it isn’t built in the country. Blimey.
    Back to the car, there are two fully electric powertrains offered - the first uses the 154bhp motor seen in various Stellantis models. This gives a range of up to 250 miles from a 54-kWh battery. A sportier 236bhp VELOCE version will also be offered, using the same motor as the recently-announced Abarth version of the 600e.
    The car will replace both the Mito and Giulietta in the range, with a length of 4.17m, width of 1.78m and height of 1.5m and will have a more ‘premium’ look and feel inside and out compared to the other brands in the Stellantis stable.
    Despite its compact size, the Milano is said to have the largest boot in its class, with a load capacity of 400 litres.
    Alfa promises the Milano will have Alfa-like driving dynamics and best-in-class road holding, thanks partially to a comparatively low weight. It has the most direct steering in the segment, and the VELOCE has 25mm lower suspension, bigger brakes and a special Torsen differential to offer the best possible traction in all conditions.
    Other technology includes a ‘Hey Alfa’ voice-activated virtual assistant incorporating ChatGPT. Three option packs are available on the Milano, called Technology, Exclusivity or Sportiness. The Technology pack offers a handsfree electric tailgate, LED Matrix lights and connected navigation with virtual assistant. The Premium pack adds a vinyl-fabric blend interior, electrically operated driver’s seat with massage function, interior ambient lighting, and aluminium pedals. The Sport pack offers Sabelt seats, Alcantara upholstery and sporty exterior features.
    Prices have yet to be announced, but are expected to start at around £37,000.

      It’s also available as a hybrid with a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder petrol engine along with a 28bhp electric motor and will cost about €10,000 less than the EV version according to reports, which sounds about right given the price difference for the mechanically similar Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger.

    We Italians love to complain, it's something we do as soon as we can, and it's undeniable who this car (I would say more Stellantis) gives easy opportunities to criticism.
    For us Alfa Romeo is a special brand (I can't write its history, my English is too bad, but whoever wants can read something about and learn new things), so it's obvious that if "you" make a car that has a platform common to the other Stellantis brands (ie not specific for Alfa, like Giulia and Stelvio) and you build the car in Poland, some Italians (many) get pissed off.
    After all, it's something that happens with all manufacturers (at least those with many brands, classic example is Volkswagen), it's one of the many ways to reduce costs (the same reason why it's not built in Italy).
    That said, the design is Alfa, they did a good job, the car is (aesthetically speaking) nice, for sure how and more of its segment competitors; so, if the price will be right and the car does well, it will be the model that will allow us to continue making "true" Alfa like Giulia, Stelvio etc (it don't need to be a genius to understand it).

      Alfa has been losing money for decades. Its easy to moan about shared platforms but without them the Alfa would not exist any more. I have owned 5 over the years and love the cars but I fully get the direction they had to go. Also, the Junior/Milano is 10 times the car that the Mokka or Fiat is. A shared platform does not make them the same car.

    • @lazios
      @lazios หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@cannavaras No offence but there are things that, if you are not Italian, you cannot understand (something to do with the relationship between Italians and Fiat, the Agnelli family etc); that Alfa Romeo uses a Peugeot platform (it should be the opposite at most) and is built in Poland is an insult to the Italian automotive industry.
      Before writing, one should know the history of the car and that of Alfa Romeo (Alfa is basically the brand that invented the racing car for the general public).
      Despite this, I've also wrote many positive things: who is normal to share platforms and much more, who the design of this car is Alfa etc (but all this, it has nothing to do with the sentiment of Italians versus Stellantis, Elkann etc).
      Again, it's not a fault but if you are not Italian there are things you cannot know on the relationship between Italy and the Agnelli.
      PS The latest Alfa financial results are positive.

    • @lazios
      @lazios หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cannavaras Blind? Again, I'm positive about this car and I understand the reason behind Stellantis choice, I've only writing which is the problem between Italians cars lover and Stellantis (in particular Agnelli/Elkann family).
      If you want understand ... ok, otherwise I don't know what say (again, my English is too bad to talking/debate about something so complex). 🍺

      On the same side we have to say, that the Giulia styling(saying this as a giulia driver) is now almost 10 years old and i think it’s a good looking more aggressive looking evolution of the tonale. And the Tonale was already a small evolution of the giulia design. So I think it works really well. What I really like that it doesn’t look so suvish when a person standing next to it then it looks all by its self.

    I love my Alfas (currently have a Giulietta) and I love my electric cars too (we have a Tesla, but have had all sorts of others too), but I can confidently say that I'd never buy an electric car that didn't have 1-pedal driving (braking). So much time is spent in queues of traffic that it makes jams so much less annoying. Stellantis presumably have gone the same way of Audi, which theoretically is more efficient, but in the Real World equates no no savings of any significance. This probably sounds really petty, but "routinely" two pedal driving really feels inferior to me.

    Very nice review, thanks. I can't wait to see it in real life and test drive it. I think its a great looking car if you compare with the competition 👌🇮🇹🏁💨❤️

    Always a head of other marques, beautiful finishing design. This Milano can be the grand kid of my Milano Verde (which is the Alfa 75 in Europe)

    What's missing and what makes EV a bit more interactive and fun is flappy padels that adjust the regen mode. I use it all the time in my old Mercedes EV.

    I'm that 1 of that 10 that like this Jr!😙 So far hated the scratchy cheap plastic bits & the dark headliner but everything else I see, am lovin it!🤩 This Jr vibe is youngsters, so prbbly attracts them more!😙

    3:30 Are those 4-leaf clovers? The wheel designer was probably saving these for the spicy Quadrifoglio version, but the ones in charge wanted them from the start.

    I currently drive the new mokka and i guess this shares a lot of the same underpinnings....the mokka does everything that i need and no doubt this would be the same...i really like the styling, yes its not a "PROPER" alfa but that won't bother the target Audience.

    Awesome grill. Like it.
    Best design on their platform up till now. Alfa always has best design in wheels too.
    Probably the most reliable alfa they made as well😊

      In truth, the previous Giulia and Stelvio also proved to be very reliable. For Tonale it is too early to say.

    Not a huge (modern era) Alfa fan, but this is a good-looking car and so refreshingly different. Shame about the rear passenger space and lack of amenities - the only real fault that I could find.
    I adored the original Junior (my brother had an Autodelta-modified Junior in the 70s) and I love this car despite hating Marmite!!

    Still an SUV, still going to suck when it comes to driving long distances. Ask Jeep Avenger owners, they'll tell you of the 400 km range, only 200 is usable on the freeway. And it charges at only 100lW. But styling is nice.

    I am Italian and I love Alfa, but this just looks like a tweaked Peugeot and it hurts. Clearly the same headlights with a slightly modified bumper. Stellantis didn't do the brand justice.
