- Here is my first look at the brand new Kia EV3. Could this be Kia's best car so far. Using a lot of trickle down design and technology from the award winning Kia EV9.

Thanks Ped for the most detailed review so far of the EV3. I've had an e-Niro here in France since March 2019, we have to date done 101,000 km in the car. It has been pretty much faultless apart from the 12v battery needing replacement. It is great to drive and super efficient. Our winter/summer average is 14 kWh/100 km...so just over 4 miles/kWh?...450 km on a full charge is easily done, a mid winter 1,100 km run to Germany in 2022 (grandkids get born at inconvenient times and places!)...suggests that 350 km is more realistic in winter on fast roads. EV3 looks great, a real step up in design and technology from our e-Niro but not much of an improvement in charging speeds which is a shame.
Cheers 🙏🏻
Dare I say but I'd prefer this over an EX30. Hyundai/Kia are EV disrupters! Thanks for the exclusive.
The EX30 isn’t in the same league. Too small in the rear, that awful tablet and NO HUD !!!!!! Kia EV3 all the way
I agree Volvo should be worried and i currently drive a Volvo!
EX30 is awful. I've been in one and the interior feels really cheap and flimsy. Very Chinese! The screen based controls are infuriating too as you have to prod in menus to adjust your mirrors for example.
Disrupters? Hardly, since Model Y was the most car sold in the world last year.
@@charliequach6399Who cares sales until kia's hypercasting and IRA, also tesla profit percentage dropped to 5% while kia is 13%.
I really like this. Can’t wait to see your drive reports
Design seems to channel the essence of Star Wars Imperial Storm Trooper armor.
Star Trek Jaylah
Yep 👍
Terrific design and car. Kia just continue to lead the way.
until it hits you - that's a blunt monster
Kia are really thinking out of the EV box. Very interesting and clever design. Can't wait to watch you road test this.
i guess the embargo lifted on EV3, lots of same videos to watch at the same time, i chose yours because i'm a helpful kind of chap and like to see the underdog win. so here is my like and comment for your algorithm
Thanks Grant. Yep…global embargo 👍
I’m fully onboard with EV’s, just love Cars in general. But credit to the brand - right let’s invite “ Petrol Ped” 😂
Peter…this car sounds like a very good way into EV ownership. I would buy one happily because Kia seems well made with sound technology and it is not in the super expensive range so a reasonable risk. As you rightly say, it is a practical, family car for daily life. It is not intended to storm the Stelvio or lap the N’bring in 7 mins dead…it is a car for Asda, the doctors and visiting Aunt Maud….for school, for friends on a Friday night….it is a real world car but is also a very good car as a sole ownership. I wish it well…try to get one for test soon..the full range GT Line version and alongside, a basic, no option model for a comparison test!
Happy driving…😃😃😃😟Richard
Kia is gaining my respect ngl
Looks amazing currently have an E Niro which goes back next year. Definite contender for its replacement. 4 mpkwh is easy in the E Niro so that should do it no problem.
Another winner love my EV6 I’ll have one for the wife , love where kIA is going 🎉
It’s a striking car for sure, and see no reason why it won’t be successful for Kia.
Now we just need a more practical EV6-sized, mid-sized-SUV / family car, which sits between the EV3 & the EV9. Kia & Hundai are making some truly amazing cars! 👏 🏆 I'd also love to see a true eco car from the group, along the lines of the epically-efficient original Hyundai ioniq (5 miles per kwh +++). Exciting times!
The EV5 is coming also...
Just picked up our niro ev and love it. Kia have really pushed things forward and this car looks amazing and also practical to own. It's not a show pony by the read of things. Can't wait for your drive review.
Hi Pete. Another great review. Showing your many years of presentation skills off to perfection. I'm sure that this will do really well for you. Cheers. Ed
Thanks 👍
Oh Ped excellent video, very informative and interesting.Thank you 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
It’s got a big smile on front! It’s a surprisingly good looking car well done Kia
Thanks Pete as always. Great exterior design language and the EV3 is functional, without looking clumsy. Some of the shiny exterior black plastic, may get a little swirly over time, but Kia are on to a winner .... oh and the interior is lovely too. First deliveries?
Great EV to look at an all rounder for sure. If this car can do the distance they say it can well I would have one for sure. Please bring the proof on the test drive that I think is what all of us are waiting for. Great video fair and the best review I have seen for the EV3. Thank you.
Great comprehensive review. The world is changing at lightning speed with the release of these type of EV cars. A very exciting future ahead as the technology continues to get better and richer.
I currently drive a Toyota 4Runner and I am seriously considering this EV3 as my next vehicle and my 1st EV. Excellent job on this boxy goodness KIA and great review!
Good evening pal, Kia really are going all out in there progression 👍👍
This is exactly the kind of EV (and content) that we need, on a daily basis people need clean, efficient, reliable and load lugging capacity for their daily lives, if your a petrol head you like big engined, inefficient exciting cars that are highly impractical and cannot be lived with easily on a daily basis. I drive a Tesla model y not because it’s super sexy but because like most people I have kids, a need to drive in to the city on a daily basis in traffic at an average of 20mph and carry a huge amount of crap whilst I am doing it. I am also sensible enough to realise that I wouldn’t be able to do that in a Porsche boxster, nor would it be comfortable, practical or cost effective to do so. I am also a petrol head so I use the cheapness and convenience of these so I can drive and justify the big engined, highly impractical sports car for the weekend!
That is a nice looking car, it makes petrol cars look old fashioned.
Kia are leading pack at the moment. Rock solid, no nonsense efficient EV’s
Interesting. I don't want one but still interesting.
I am a huge kia fan and I do own one. But come on the exterior looks like it was designed by a lego designer
I think the cup holders have the potential to be terrible. They are extremely low and will be partially blocked by the tray table. Lack of ability to hide things in the centre console is also not so good.
Fantastic review and this vehicle is a real looker...modern, edgy clean lines while not being overstyled. Love this. Keep up the amazing work!
Great presentation. First one I've viewed to speak about family shared key profile. Interesting if the QR code brought up the user manual, more useful. Cheers🎉
Great review again, real world use will be interesting versus the published figures as usual
You missed the most important thing and that it has a rear wiper 😊
😂😂😂
Hahaha, I gather Hyundai has admitted its error and added it to new Ioniq 5s
I can't say the design impresses me especially the back side view. I am a fan of Kias, currently on my fourth, an Optima GT Line S which is basically an estate with a sloping back, a great boot and plenty of room in the back seats for my two 6' sons. My last two were what are called Kia Approved cars which means when buying a year old model (probably an ex-rental car) you get the 7 year warranty from the day you buy it meaning it has in effect an 8 year warranty which has just come in handy as I needed the two electric struts replacing on the boot lid which at £2,000 I thankfully didn't have to pay.
Sadly there has not been a replacement for the Optima so not sure which car I will be replacing it with later this year, probably the nearest Kia model in terms of size is the EV6 but even a year old one is £10,000 more than I would be wanting to pay and as yet I am not convinced that an EV is the way to go at the moment. A Skoda Superb or Octavia would likely be the best choice but the 3 year warranty puts me off. Maybe leasing a car may be a better choice, something I will have to have a look at.
Your EV9 test was outstanding. However I am a bit biased since you were in my home patch 🏴
It was a lovely day too 👍
You lost me at over 7secs to 60! Shame, looks good but Volvo EX30 ticks more boxes for me although will probably end up in an EC40 to be fair 😂
Perks of WFH, get to watch videos like this as soon as they come out :D
I've come back to say, the 3/4 view looks a bit like a Suzuki Ignis! Interesting little car
Nice 👌
Great Upload Peds 👌👌
Thanks 🔥
A standout looking car that sets trends that others will try and follow.. great review and I'm looking forward to when you get to take it for a test drive.
You and me both!
Great to see a car with vehicle to home and good range for the price. Looks like a winner. 😊❤
Wish you had commented on the quality of the interior panels, dash. Hard plastic vs softer touch materials, etc.
Interesting styling - a bit Marmite, but the technical side sounds really good
Yep. Like this design a lot. Could even be more edgy in the front for me.
I thought the EV5 was next to come. Have they rescheduled?
This thing looks so interesting and fun. Definitely interested.
I think so too!
Does the base model come with a heatpump?
If it had rear wheel drive, it would be perfect. I've test driven the MG4 and it's handling is fantastic, it eats the BYD.
How do you change the rear wiper blade with it hidden away under the spoiler like that?
You are always a great presenter well done.🐶🐶🐶
Thank you! 😃
It looks a great little car, but disappointing that it doesn’t have 800v charging, my EV6 GT has a shorter range (215-250 miles) but can charge nearly twice as fast so it’s actually more practical.
Its also 0-60 3.4 secs so a lot faster, more expensive though which is probably the reason
I want a small EV that is also 800v
Really like, but that charge speed is guff!
thanks for a good summary and walk around/inside. ...just wondering if this was filmed a while back when you were ill...you sound and look a little drained. Whatever the algorithm wants you to do, you need to get enough rest to keep going. best wishes
Yes. Filmed on 30th April 👍
There is a full GT w/ AWD also coming. It will compete with RIvian R3/x
Hi Pete. Great vid as usual, GREAT EV3, look forward to buying one, my IPACE was lovely but having it launch itself through my garage door I learned not to trust it. The only negative is that you're going grey!
I need them to make an EV Sedan. The K5 looks amazing.
They are look up kia ev 4
@@melsangelbard will do
Definitely on the market for a new EV to replace a Model3. Smart #3 and EX30 were my choice… until this. Love this little car
Definitely one of the better walk around reviews Pete 👍 I’d add to the comments it’s interesting that there’s a base model and a ‘GT-Line’. That implies to me that there will be a full GT version in 25/26? Some dual motor action and sub 5 second 0-60 times would be interesting particularly if some tech was borrowed from Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 to make it handle and go around corners too. Obviously it would be more expensive and slightly lower range but I’d say there’s a market for such a car particularly if it’s smaller than the Ioniq 5
Thanks 🙏🏻
@@PetrolPed no problem and I note that ‘Sam Evans’ - The Electric Viking’ seemed pretty certain that a full GT version of the EV3 as I mooted, is coming.
Kia need to get the interior noise under control. It is an issue I've had with a few of their cars, too much road noise finding its way into the cabin. If they improve that they've got a winner.
Probably the nearest thing to 'EV Temptation' for me so far!
I do like Kia's design theme and the EV3 does look the business.
Obviously the price has not got to scare me or the bank manager's pants off to make it into that category.
The larger battery range is good but still a bit off what I would truly need. My recurring example of range is the 400 mile return journey (no possible home charging at the halfway point) with the horror segment of the M25 - 50 miles in each direction, where you can queue or be stationary for an hour +.
Always interesting to get your reviews, thanks.
An EV uses very little energy in traffic, and doesn’t pollute or chuck out CO2 in the process.
I assume you have a break on a 7 hour 400 mile drive?
❤ love the model from downtown Melbourne Victory Australia 🇦🇺 on the way to see the Spurs football game against Newcastle fc
And the super Geordies won👍
Almost afternoon mate
Very nice motor. Price will be the key. My Volvo C40 is very competitive against this one in my opinion.
Love the design of this car and Kia are really shaking things up. It would take a lot to pull me away from Tesla, but it’s great that we have some amazing choice in the EV market.
size length and width inc mirrors ?
Unless the base has a price point of under £25K. Then it is over priced. Point on the games & films you talked about. Kia are emailing current owners on this & they are all going to be subscription based. Which is the same for OTA navigation updates which are £80 a year now... I drive a Kia EV as well.
Not really a surprise they just see motorists as a cash cow, and the prices of cars are ridiculous tbh
I think the Renault Scenic is the closest competitor. It's about 200mm longer, but has similar all around features and space
Tune in at 6pm tonight for my first drive in the Scenic 👍
Thinking outside of the box design...I like it. And no 'hard scratchey' plastic interior. What's the starting price?
Nobody seems to be saying yet.
My immediate reaction was its a heavily reworked Niro ? Nothing wrong with that, but our dog was too big for the boot!
On this one,you can drop the "floor" of the boot a few inches (not sure how many) to gain some more height
I really like Kia brand and what they are doing 👍
It’ll do well if it comes in at a reasonable price.
A Great Review. Kia always seem to produce purposeful, reliable cars but none have attracted my attention until this EV3. I think that Kia and Renault are the most innovative car manufacturers at the moment, and after watching this, it makes me feel that the new Citroen e3 has really missed the mark. It would be useful to have an idea of the starting price. I'm a converted happy electric car driver but the EV3 and new Renault e-tech could get my custom...
Nice 👌
Colour aside I think it looks great
Calm informative well articulated perspective. Now what a hoot this little thing will be if they really drop the same drivetrain in it from the ev6 gt!
Should weigh 600-700# less at just over 4,100# so near m3p weight.
And it will have to compete against the ex30 perf, zeekr x, smart #1 perf, mg4 x, rivian r3x, cupra rebel, vw id.gti etc.
What a modern ev hot hatch kind of revival that compact cuv segment will be in just a couple more year's eh ped? 👍🏻😎
I'm looking forward to the 2dr coupe segment filling in, with the caterham project v, ssc sc01 ev 2dr coupe, lotus type 135 ev coupe, Porsche boxter&cayman evs etc. We could have some genuine competition in the ev 2dr sports coupes in the 50-75k range by 2026.
Which means by 2028 or so those of us with a 35-45k toy budget can snag a low mileage 2 or 3 year old one for half what it cost when new. 😀
Thank you 🙏🏻
Shame you couldn't mention its length and width. Looks interesting if it's not huge.
I like it
How does this compare size wise to, say a Sportage ? Difficult to tell from the the video !
Hi Pete, As someone else said, lots of people have clearly reviewed this at the same time, but I always enjoy your views on cars, including EVs. However, does the amount of tech Kia have taken from the EV9 mean this will end up being a an expensive smaller (medium) sized EV and maybe priced somewhere between the E-niro and the EV6?
Thank you kindly!
Looking good but I’m still waiting for that illusive Tesla model 2 !!
Cheers Pete! An unexpected Thursday video ‘drop’.
On a slightly more controversial note, I genuinely hope that these ‘embargoed style’ videos have their day very soon. I might be in the minority, but I don’t have much interest in watching a collection of videos on the same car, from different channels all on the same day (or ever, for that matter!). I’ve chosen to watch yours as I’m a PP faithful, but surely all the TH-camrs lose out here - it’s not that I wouldn’t want to see what the other channels have done - but I’m not gonna spend hours hearing the same information.
Just odd really.
I get that but it protects me as a creator and gives me the same chance as everyone else. These press events run over several days, sometimes weeks, without an embargo the first people would be able to get their video out before the later people had even seen the car.
@@PetrolPed understood 👍 - would need to be an industry shift from the manufacturers rather than being lead by the YT creators.
Prices? I'd like to see a comparison of the EV3 with the new Renault Scenic E-Tech.
Thank you for such a thoughtful and informative review - no surprise from you but so much better than from many others today. A very interesting car and we look forward to your driving report.
You are so welcome!
Reminds me of a Suzuki Ignis, a jazzed up one, i like it but fabric on the dash,no thanks, like a 1980s Panda 😂 how they price and market this car will be big deciding factor. 👍
I Like It A Lot ... 👍👍👍
I want recycled cow skin on my seats please! 😂
Every second new car in my (central Scotland) locality appears to be a Kia. I can understand why, based on this model.
Hyundai/KIA/Genesis are absolutly the new EV benchmark.
This car ticks all boxes imo.
...so this is how to integrate a screen nicely in the dashboard (Pay attention VW, Volvo, Tesla...)
...and some real knobs, thank you.
Did I miss any mention of price?
Ssshhhhhh. Just clap like a seal and say how fantastic it looks.
No seal clapping here 👎
Good
Thanks
I am a great fan of the Kia EVs (and actually their whole product line) but as with the EV6 I find the styling a little too adventurous or avant garde so I may have to reserve judgement until I see a production car in the flesh - and in the right colour. I have no doubt that the tech, finish and efficiency will be very good but I wonder whether it is a little wide for its class or whether the styling makes it look wider than it is.
Lack of panoramic roof is a big miss, especially for the top of the range. The slide out laptop table looks like a cop out, surely they could have done better in this area
Price?
We loved our Sportage a number of years ago just the petrol engine fuel economy was brutal. This is looking like a very interesting option if only it had four wheel drive it would be a serious contender for our replacement vehicle in a year or so. I do like those alloys and the Mercedes like triple screen.
How much bet it’s over £40,000
When Kia look more Mini than the new Countryman. And the new Countryman look more Kia than the EV3
It's a cracking little car
Seems to undercut the Kia Niro on price and has more range. Et tu Niro!
Nice car. Just waiting for legislation and EV Charger manufacturers to catch up with the vehicles for V to Grid and V to Home. I think Robert Llywellyn is one of the view to have it as a trial.
This car doesn’t have V2G.
I get on my Niro over 4 miles per kWh so I see no reason for this car not to. The other thing I like about the car is the LFP battery that allows far more charging cycles and that it’s recommended to charge up to 100%.
It doesn’t have an LFP battery.
There is an EV elephant in the room.
Ticks all the boxes I would want to tick if considering an EV purchase, the biggest plus being it isn't a Tesla and looks nothing like a Tesla.
World car of the year at an affordable price 😊
