Porsche’s mini SUV has had a major revamp for 2024, and there’s one key difference - it’s gone fully ELECTRIC! Now that might sound like a bad thing to some but Porsche being Porsche has gone all out on the engineering of the new Macan.
Let’s have a closer look shall we. On the outside Porsche has done what they usually do and kept the design pretty similar to the previous car but still made some notable changes. Starting at the front the grille has been swapped for a larger lower air intake, and the new headlights are almost exactly the same as the Taycan.
From the side there’s not a huge difference to the current Macan but you can start to see one big change they have actually made. And that of course is the rear, you now have a much more squat looking rear-end which helps with the aerodynamics of the car, whether it looks better or not, we’ll leave that up to you.
On the inside the new Macan is again pretty similar to the Taycan, but that’s no bad thing is it? The driver gets a high resolution curved display as well as a large infotainment screen in the centre of the dash. Even the front passenger gets their own display that is perfect for watching Carwow on.
Then of course getting rid of the ICE version of the Macan does has some benefits, one of those being, performance. The entry-level dual-motor can produce 408hp, while the top-of-the-range Turbo can put down 640hp and an mind bending 1,130Nm of torque - that’s 80Nm more than the Taycan Turbo S! Porsche also claims it should be able to hit 60mph in just 3.3 seconds but we’ll see what it can really do in this video!
The new Macan will start at around £70,000, rising to around £95,000 for the Turbo edition. But is it worth it?! You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

You should start showing the cars at night. Lights are a big part of how cars look.
And also makes those cars more beautiful to look at night.
The interior lighting on the current macan is appalling, and the headlights are pretty bad too.
yea, agreed. So much of the design goes into lights, light bars, interior lights, brake lights, blinkers, etc.. it should be a part of the review ..

I’m happy to see everyone caught on to the airbags being optional. It’s not just Porsche; it’s literally all the big German brands money pinching their customers. I visited both of the Audi and Mercedes configurators online and saw that they were even charging for airbags. Literally outrageous, charging money for a life saving thing that should be standard.
We must put pressure on these companies to give us basic things standard, especially when it comes to safety systems and assisted driving technology.
I am fine if things like different leathers and wood trims are optional extras but an airbag? Unbelievable
Not correct. Side airbags cannot be used with child seats in the rear. That is why they are optional.
@@BlixemBlixem I understand, but not everyone is gonna be a baby in a car seat/child seat. But if this is a concern for some customers, manufacturers can at least warn of it.
Yea its scummy, all German car brands do this. Guess some part of their nazi-roots never disappear.
Former Nazis don't care about human lives unfortunately
You're not going to have a child seat in there forever....@@BlixemBlixem
Having to pay extra for an airbag in a car it's like going to the pub ordering Fish and chips and when the food comes finding out that the chips were an extra! completely ridiculous.
Well, they kind of are. If you buy fish and chips you are paying for both the fish and the chips, and you can buy fish on its own or chips on their own so as analogies go that one doesn’t really work. Also worth pointing out rear side airbags were always an option on the macan and it does come as standard with rear curtain airbags
I think we are all fed a diet of "standard equipment as standard" IF it had every conceivable extra the price would be horrendous...no one would buy it ! Porsche had to reel the price level in to an acceptable amount and you pay for that. Porsche is hardly a family car and do you really really need airbags at every corner ? I am from a time not long past where it was a novelty to have a bag on the steering wheel never mind anywhere else !

This Porsche, the BMW i7, many Citroën models as Mat said himself.
It looks horrible to me, and after almost 2 years I still didn't get used to it from the i7.
It looks awful
Forgot to mention the new Audi Q6 etron... I think on this it looks ok, on the BMW XM it's decent as well, but on the i7 and X7 it is pretty badly integrated so it looks ugly.
It's to appeal to the Chinese market I believe. It doesn't align with Western aesthetics at all imo
They’re hideous. Full stop.
It's because it's confusing. Your eyes can't rest hence giving you an uneasy feeling. I get the same vibe. I don't like it.
Making airbags optional is literally telling your customers that you don't care about them but just about their money. Which we all know is the case but it's a pretty bold move to pull out in the open.
Rear airbags have always been optional on the Macan.
Weight saving
Optional rear airbags is normal in many, many cars.
Don't confuse the side seat airbag (option) with the side curtain airbag (standard). I think Matt has confused these too. The curtain is far more important than the seat option. 11:48. All the various global safety tests are done WITHOUT the optional airbags
I think it’s an EU thing, that’s not an available option on North American Macan EV. It would be interesting to know why, Europe typically has smaller cars and lower speed roads and therefore lower safety requirements for passengers maybe? Correct me if I’m wrong.
That front looks like it belongs on a different car

The liftoff regen is such a misunderstood concept even manufacturers like Porsche can't be honest about it.
Regen on accelerator release is a way to remove the lag between acceleration and deceleration: you absolutely *can* coast with regen even at its maximum setting, you simply need to be more precise with the throttle, which is why on the motorway you would lower the regen, while in town or country roads you would increase the regen effect.
Obviously if you drive more sportily you would prefer less regen so you have a wider accelerator curve and you would use the brake anyway.

I understand that the option for side airbags may not be necessary for every purchase, especially for vans, which are commonly used as company cars in Denmark due to the associated tax benefits. Given the high cost of cars in Denmark, it's practical to have the flexibility to save money where possible.

My local taxi company would like this because like their cars it is extremely ugly. When Matt was jerking about pushing the throttle down continuously, they are better than him at doing this in traffic so you get the added bonus of neck or back whiplash. They brake heavily before they tailgate other drivers. So it is the speed up brake hard workout. I bet the Macan has great brakes. The insurance for the taxi would cost a fortune though! The devaluation after 6 years would be spectacular especially being fully electric. You can buy a secondhand Tesla Model S for 25k now. If I wanted a electric car it represents better value even though you cannot repair it with its fixed chassis if you have a bad accident. Not to mention build quality and some tech issues. Looks like a Porsche to me!
I currently choose cars after searching by engine. That is, I like six-cylinder cars for both everyday use and special use. Of course, I also like some cars with a V8 or V12, but I personally don't want to drive a four-cylinder car.
That means if I were shopping for the old Macan, I wouldn't choose the Golf GTi engine, unless I was shopping for my wife, and would choose the V6. For me, it's all about engine characteristics and the sound. And as I drive exclusively on public roads, there's only so much performance I can use safely, so the mega power models have pretty much lost the appeal they used to have.
Now what? Moreover, I can see that for many people brand is no longer as important as tech. So, for everyday use why is someone going to choose a Macan Turbo for about 110-115k including options over say a Kia EV6 GT for about 65k fully loaded? Is the Macan Turbo really worth 50k more? Does a Macan really have significantly more cachet? In London, I see them everywhere, and so they're in no way special. They're just a nice, quality car. That's it.
In the EV world, I think the established premium brands, except maybe Range Rover and of course Rolls-Royce are going to really struggle. The likes of Porsche are going to become tech brands, who are going to be asking double for their tech, which will be as out of date in less than a year as everyone else's.
The days of choosing a car based on its beating heart will be over if all you can buy is an EV. As impressive as that electric motor is, for its power and efficiency in such a compact package, it is not going to motivate me to fork out the big bucks, and even if you could, you wouldn't open the bonnet to look at it or show it off.
I used to buy Samsung phones, now I have an LG and my wife has a Xiaomi Redmi. I can't see me ever buying a Samsung again, even if the price was the same, as my last Samsung never got a single Android update. And I can't see me ever buying an Apple phone.
While I'm not convinced by the likes of BYD, in the EV world at present I think it would be difficult to convince me to buy something other than a Tesla Model 3, especially new. Before all the negative press about EVs, I was thinking about dipping our toes into the world of EVs. I thought as city run-arounds, EVs could make a lot of sense, while reserving ICE for weekends. I was thinking about a used Model 3 Performance for myself, and a used MG 5 for my wife. Prices have dropped significantly since then, and now first gen Taycans are also very tempting. But I'm not going to buy any EV in the foreseeable future, especially not a Taycan with all its reported faults.
I'm sticking with ICE until something significant changes, even for running around the city. The old Macan was as a car for every person as much as a Porsche could be. IMO, this new Macan is priced beyond what most people can stretch themselves to acquire. Not only do I expect the new Cayman/Boxsters to be similarly priced, IMO an EV sports car is an oxymoron. While well suited to achieving low 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, IMO a sports car requires an ICE and relatively low weight. Two-and-a-half tonnes for a Macan. That's the weight of a full-size Range Rover!
And what about all the mandatory big brother and nanny tech from 2024? How easy is it to turn off lane keep assist?

Ever heard of emission regulations, especially in the EU? There won't be an ICE Macan (or 718) again. Also Porsche already stated a couple of weeks ago they were overwhelmed by the amount of preorders the Macan recieved (over 10.000)
Yeah,
"Novelty effect"
Let's wait for a full year or 2 of your "10000 overwhelmed preorders "😂@@alexanderhaase2765
They did this so they could still sell the 911 with a combustion engine. Pretty simple.
@@alexanderhaase2765 it depends on the Macan EV sales Porsche said. If it's bad we will get a new ICE Macan
@@alexanderhaase2765 No more ICE and manual transmissions from Porsche?
Is this for real.....How boring world has become, robotic soyciety
The thumbnail gave me a heart attack , the factory colour suits it more. (23:25 Matts second camera victim )
All the manufacturers are just losing their taste in automobiles because of how the environment is changing 🤦🏾♂️
where was this video filmed in france?
You CANT Turbo an electric motor.
Is it possible to do NA Tuning on an electric motor?
@@purwantiallan5089 you could probably push the batteries overclock them maybe in the future
But you can still suck.
YES you can, you put a more powerful motors. Why is this so hard for people to comprehend???? LOL
The Turbo on an EV it will obviously not be the same as combustion engine. However TURBO is not connotative of JUST combustion engines.
I can tell my boy to get his turbo going when dressing - Then Porsche EVs can also
Not a fortune teller, but I predict the next Macan will be petro powered after record reduction in sales.
I disagree. I think fewer people will buy this but more because of the price rather than than it being electric. But as its 30% more expensive than the ICE version they can sell fewer and still make as much money
@@omnicognatesnr5947 the reason it costs more is that it costs more to make.
5:44 the word "something" does not have a "k" on the end Matt!!
Yeah his "g" aint silent in many words. Got to be some dialect.
Where is the foot-garage? There was just a regular flat battery in the "technology" part of the car shown?
Where did they put the Turbo??
In their a.. 😅
Banging the same drum since 2019 🙄
I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice Volkswagen and Bosch on the motor cut away scene - could they at least stamp PORSCHE on the motor?
Well, they stamped PORSCHE on a VW I.D.
2:04 - It was not started by Citroen and the Picasso. The Nissan Juke already had that.
With the potholes in our roads, 18” wheels might be safer, for the tyres and your teeth.
No rear wiper? Might as well take the mirror away then in rain. I’ve had a Macan for 10 years and the rear wiper is essential,
If you use the rear view mirror.
I have a gen 3 macan S. The rear wiper is utterly essential. You can get one on the Macan EV but its about £350 as an optional extra.
yea but your macan was slow af, this doesn't need a wiper
2:20 “Going back to their roots” yeah an electric SUV just screams heritage
Mat was on about the design when he said that, not the engine 🥱
@@AirMelosity Ik, just a funny thought
An all-terrain hybrid electric "macan" was one of Ferdinand Porsche's first vehicles...
From the final verdict, I think it is definitely worth buying straight away. Especially for countries in tropical regions.
The reason the screen for the passenger turns black from the driver's side when driving, is because they don't want the driver getting distracted by a video on the screen when driving and must just focus on driving.
how is it turbo ??
Hmmm, still not over the whole 'Why is called a turbo when it doesn't have a turbo' thing eh? It's only been five years.
@@martinogold your comment made zero sense man ! - you had to even edit it because you talking rubbish
Headlights being lower than the DRL is a massive blunder

Panoramic sunroofs in SUVs are a total waste in warm climates, plus you lose headroom in the back. The main reason to Shortlist (or worse) it is the hefty price and insane cost of extras, not whether it's available as an ICE or not.
The switches in the back may be a real issue. I sold a Porsche Panamera the other day, AC toggle fell off in the rear cabin. Not snapped, just fell off and got lost.
New button - $4000. It requires a panel! Porsche have missed a trick by not supplying buttons on their own.
