Charging seperation is actually a big plus for a gaming handheld if you are playing at home without worrying about battery life while using the charger, i actually have it in my Poco F3 using a magisk module
can u name the app i got f3 to and it overheats when charging and playing
@@AtlasStreamTTVyou can search advance charging controller in xda
its used to be called "pass-through charging "
I'd like to know as well about the Magisk module you are using.
Bypass charge is pretty cool ngl, just draws power out of the socket. All devices need this.
I placed my order yesterday for the Pro Version. I would say that the hardware for ARM is at a point of diminishing returns until the development on the emulators catch up. Development for the emulators is a slow process so I don’t see myself buying a new handheld for a while. Really excited for this device. Great review.
we need wii u emulation!
ps3 emulation is wayyyyy out of android chip capabilities, maybe until the snapdragon 9 series
@@neonation6969 xbox 360 might be something we can also look forward too
@@neonation6969well its not the chips fault for not being able to run ps3, it's definitely powerful enough to it's up to someone to code an efficient emulator tho
It was only a matter of time before the 8 gen 2 came to a dedicated handheld. It really is the ultimate android chip, to be properly utilised with active cooling is dope. Shame nothing on Android really pushes it, although being able to run Yuzu without overheating when the yuzu drivers are eventually stable will be great.
You can also run the winlator and play lots of PC games. Just recently finished far cry 1 and deus ex invisible war.
I know right!! I have two Android phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 because it is so dang good!
I am in the Ayn Disc so I knew when they finally shipped review units, and I figured you'd get one. I've been waiting for this vid!
Amazing review and thank you for putting up the comparison numbers, it really helps the end user.
it's actually insane the specs they crammed in this thing for the prices they're offering. I think I would go for the midrange option.
What’s the estimated price?
My guess is $400
Base model is actually estimated around 300USD not bad tbh
It's honestly confusing to me, but in reality just showcases the greed of the phone companies. Cheapest phone with the snap 8 gen 2 is 700 bucks. Not even flagship.
@@I_am_Dad_Son it’s nubia z50 which is around 435 dollars and poco f5 pro which 410 dollars they are soo cheap and both of them have snapdragon 8 gen 2
Looks awesome! And that color theme with leds 👌
These handhelds are getting better each year and I can wait for the android TV box consoles to catch up.
What would be great to test is that "Alien: Isolation" Android port that few people seem to know about!
What?
Alien isolation runs great in my Odin Lite (dimensity 900 chip) so, I'm sure it will run no problem in the new Odin 2.
It works great on the original Odin. Just a pain you need to be connected to the internet to play it most of the time.
Alien isolation is a ps3 game 😂
@@oo--7714it was ported to android
In my opinion passthrough charging should become a standardized feature on handhelds. I would perfer to keep that charging cable plugged in most of the time when I’m gaming, or simply try to drain my 65W power bank first whenever I’m on the go. It brings peace of mind because I don’t trust battery life on these handhelds at all.
that why Y700 a gaming tablet have it ! and my ipad mini 6 dont :(
Does the steam deck have pass-through?
@@Jokerwolf666
yep
Well, i gues you won't really have to worry about battery life with the Odin 2 lol
This is passthrough charging????
I can't wait to get my hands on mine! Planning to release a review of it myself.
Any chance you could do a full emulation video on the Odin 2 and test out numerous games for each platform instead of just a couple?
it should be really nice
Charging separately sounds like such a great feature to have! More phones should have that. Is it a software-specific feature, or is it a hardware one? Could custom ROMs implement such a feature?
I have a Deck, iPad, and a dongle (like a Y cable) that lives on one of my chargers that allows me to also plug in another USB accessory, which I have plenty of. In 2 years, the only time I used it was to test it.
Is a great feature in theory, but really not that useful. I don’t want ANY space taken in my phone by something I don’t use every day.
I think it's a hardware thing used in laptop and portable console like psp, vita and switch, it split the power input to the battery and directly powering the device
like in laptop and psp, you can turn the device on even without the battery inserted, not sure about steam deck and odin 2
Sony phones are famous for having it. its not a standard because its a lot easier to make people pay for a battery replacement 2-3 years down the line or to discard the device entirely for a new one, which is the case more often than not
I’m glad to see AYN is on time
These devices are getting insane, really liked this one!
Would be cool to see some ps2 racing games like burnout 3 or revenge, midnight club 3, gran turismo 4 etc to see how it perfoms. Looks like a dope device👌🏽
Would have been awesome that at some point the leds were turned off so we could see how the device looks. A part from that great review, Im waiting for mine to arrive at chrismas hopefully :D
Ooh, Black and Burnout 3 would be pretty awesome to see! :3
Perhaps the Wii CoD games--pretty sure they had support with that attachable classic controller, so they should map alright :3
No the mapping sucks because I don't think the classic controller had click able thumbsticks to the mapping for reloading crouching and knife really weird
The links awakening cartridge in the corner for the nintendo lawyers is clutch
Can't wait to see you test the Google Pixel 8! 🎉
Would love to see the cloud gaming testing and how it stacks up to streaming vs the gCloud
Yeah, would love to see cloud gaming. Specifically moonlight!
I'm curious what your opinion for what the base model can handle and where the pro would be the most beneficial.
Very good video, man.
You made me pre-order the "Atomic Purple" model and I'm very excited to have it shipped.
Can you tell me what theme you're using on yours? Cause it suits the console's color so well.
I'd love to see some cloud gaming performance. I'm curious about the latency, and how well the stream performs.
Seeing Saturn on the Retroarch Beetle core would be nice.
Thanks for the hard work!
That's the dream
If he doesn't show any then don't worry because this device is more than capable of running that core. I run the beetle core on a RedMagic 7S Pro (Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1) and it runs on that just fine. That's a phone with an SOC that's one gen older than the SOC in this device)
Can u check out input lag for your next video, odin1 had very noticeable input lag on non-retroarch emulators. And i feel like no one really talked about this. Retroarch had that framebuffer option (forgot name).
Man, I really wish I have the money now to actually get this. Would definitely want to upgrade my Odin base to this one
Again it shows that you can make a profit from very new tech, demonstrating the huge mark-ups that devices with this kind of SOC would normally come with. It will force a major rethink for other manufactures Android (and even X86) devices because power wise, this is streets ahead of so many others. This should be good news for the consumer wanting realistic value.
So based on what is seen here, well done AYN. This might, should the detailed reviews match the initial impressions, actually shake up the market.
I suppose that the one downside is no Xbox emulation, unless there are any Linux based distros for the Snapdragon SOC?
AYN will need to up manufacturing to meet demand at this rate and should perhaps look for worldwide manufacturer options to keep up.
Game on.
Awesome device, would love to see some Meta Gear Solid Twin Snakes and some Dreamcast games including Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2.
Keep up the great work!!
God, I’m so excited to get my hands on this!! Can’t decide between the atomic purple or cold grey.
What did you decide on? I’m torn between the colours too
@@michaelharvest931 it was a 3 to 1 vote between my siblings and I. We decided on the atomic purple.
Disappointed to see you test easy Android game like Asphalt 9 but not the more challenging to run ones like CarX games or Wreckfest
I didnt know wreckfest was on android...nice!
Or grid auto sport too, but I guess the average person is just playing f2p stuff since 10 dollars is “too expensive”
@@zergslayer69dude.I'm not gonna pay $10 on a phone game when I could do that on a PC or console for an exponentially better experience.
Mobile games are 🗑 who buys them.
And no streaming tests. Basically nothing that I was actually interested in
I love atomic purple! That device looks great, want one!
With the charging separation, I can have it plugged in as a desk alarm clock! Don't worry, I have a UPS so if the power goes out, it will still go off. I wont have to worry about ruining the internal battery.
Looks great, I want one ^_^
would love to see how well this handles windows 11 for ARM
There is already Windows emulation and an upcoming emulator that I know of named Cassia, made by the Skyline devs
Would be cool to know what the RAM usage was with Yuzu (yeah I went for the base model...).
Would of loved to see the ps2 emulation pushed more. I also want a usb c out emulation test as it displays 4k/60 out. Can we play games at 2k/4k on this mode
Would like to see if this can be hooked up to a monitor and install something like a desktop linux distro to use as a desktop computer. But I'm probably in the minority on this one...
I just always wanted to see top phone/tablet SoCs being used as computer processors. They seem so efficient performance per watt and I'm really into that!
This has a Snapdragon chip, so you won't be able to install a Linux distro from my understanding.
Excellent 👍
Are you ever gonna post the full emulation video?
Hiiii! I loved this video! How did you turn on the LED's in that clear version??
They come with LEDs u turn it on in the settings like the original odin
Finally, a nice vibrant clear purple
Please ETA, i would love to see you trying the PS2 game Valkyrie Profile 2. That game is really hard to emulate properly on those android handheld devices!
Just hope the build quality is decent. My original Odin wasn't too great... and that not just AYN, but all these companies actually give some kind of software support instead of pumping out new handhelds every other week
Thanks for the video review, I just ordered mine odin2 pro in indiegogo, can't wait to get it, I was thinking of Lenovo legion Go, but it's $300 bucks more and I don't know how the battery life last, yes two different machines but I gone for odin2 pro. ,still pricy at $500 cad
I'd love to see some Gamecube games tested with texture packs and widescreen hacks.
Crazy good for the price
I hope u test warzone mobile on this once it launch nxtmonth
How about testing some Windows emulation with Winlator or Exagear (or some Box64 shenanigans)?
I'd love to see how well Oblivion would work, for example.
Can you test an extremely hard to run game on your next videos? Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2 for PS2.
Thanks for the video. I’d like to see how Steam Link works on this. Is the Android version any good these days, and how well does it control?
I noticed that you didn't include 3DS footage, could you try to put that in when you do your next review?
Could you put Launchbox Android on this for a future video? I would be interested in the performance with Launchbox Android.
id love to see how game pass works on this :) thank you for this video!
I want to have something that has HDMI out and supports 4 players on 3 other Bluetooth controllers. And something that is clean and not glitchy and something that is pretty much pre built.
I wanna know more about the speakers and battery life, and if it supports lc3+ and LDAC codecs. Would def want to know if the headphone jack is powerful enough to drive , ore damanding headphones as well
🤩clear purple do look nice and i can’t wait for mine clear blue and i’m going to put 1tb micro sd card with so many compatible/playable vita and switch games on it
He doesn't mention if this has micro SD card support?
@@HUYI1He did and it does support SD cards
I got to say I got to admit brother, you have got to have one of the best and most awesome jobs any human being can have. I'm a very hard worker I like to work and earn my money but if I was ever going to retire or be able to choose a job your job would be on that list. Your life seems pretty phenomenal. Thanks for the videos
Would love to use this as a mostly dedicated PS2 emulator handheld. Can you test Gran Turismo 3 or 4 as well as some of the PlayStation 2 main franchises? Ratchet, Jak, Sly, Spyro?
Will run most ps2 at 6x
The only other thing I could ask for would be an OLED display so 4:3 letterboxing would be invisible, but hey... I've been waiting for this kind of performance and form factor for the past 20 years and it seems like we're finally here.
I would love to see how this looks on cloud gaming!
It is a good thought that you showed that you have the game cartridge when playing switch games on screen, it is subtle but definitely a good thing to show. Good job thinking on that.
If you "own" a game, then you have payed for the rights to emulate it too. This way Nintendo can't take down the video for "illegal" emulation.
I hope they are stay on track for December release date... 😊
shipping 2025 ... thx me later
@seppeseppe-jq7nr better than 2030 I guess 😀
Love the color, reminds me of the Atomic Purple N64 controller
I really wish someone would make a handheld console with a front facing camera on the top center for streaming.
Wait for the linux and windows compatibility for this console, would be awsome.
Could you test crysis 3 xenoblade 3 and Zelda totk in the switch emulation test. Id love to see those games
Would love you to do a review of the loki mini pro
Be interested to see if it will stream X-Cloud Game Pass games at 1080p. I know the app caps it at 720 but the G Cloud somehow tricks it to thinking its streaming from a browser. Love to hear your thoughts
I really want to know if it can handle some of the heavier PS2 games out there, like Shadow of the Colossus and Champions of Norrath.
Timesplitters future perfect on GC or PS2 would be great 👍
Surprised you didn’t try 1080p gc/ps2
I really like your purple urban main interface GIF wallpaper. Could you share it with me? many thanks!
Hi, if you could show some moonlight performance (with sunshine host), that would be awesome!
I'm still waiting for your next video on the pocket air
Id like to know how much of a difference in performance there would be between the different models. I love what this device can do so far, but if i can get similarly decent ps2 and gamecube performance with out having to shell out over four hundred bucks that would be preferable. Plus its hard to tell which is which on the website since they dont have the specs posted.
Please add the Star Wars Rogue Squadron game to your gamecube testing, it's harder to run than pretty much anything else. If a system isn't powerful enough, that first tutorial area on Tatooine will expose it. For original XBox testing, if you run Jet Set Radio, leave the garage area and test a full gameplay map. The garage area is easy to run until you start unlocking more characters, and bogs down when everyone is unlocked.
I can't remember where but I did see a video of someone running rogue squadron and they said it ran fine. Might have been retro corps...
You can push the Gamecube emulation a little more. I'm getting 720P in Auto Modellisto on the Odin Lite using the dev build of Dolphin.
According to AYN, they'll ship the odin2 at the end of October!
That's great news!
Maybe try moving the color slider towards black.
The darker the color on the LEDs, the lower the brightness
Also could you maybe do benchmarks in multiple performance settings? You didn't specify what you use
Can you use the odin 2 for productivity tasks? Is there any DEX like mode for example?
Finally an affordable and small comfortable portable PS2 player. I have $1000 worth of PS2 games but I seriously might ditch them for convenience of this thing.
My wife just bought me the pro version as my christmas gift and im so excited!!!!!!
nice. switch 2 is rumored to have the same chip.
Nintendo has a partnership with nvidia, this is Qualcomm
This will be pretty awesome if they get proper Linux ported to it. I would love to see box64 or FEX emulator running Steam on this hardware!
Is there anything stopping Linux from being installed though?
@@NusianceValueDepends on the bootloader situation. Drivers will probably need to be written as this is a pretty new SoC. ARM Linux works quite differently than x86, at very least a custom device tree will need to be written to boot the platform.
I already peordered mine, but I'm very interested to see how it runs docked and using a usb-c hub to connect wireless controllers (8bitdo) for multi player action. What's the lag? Or if it's better wired. Will the Odin 2 require constant controller remapping when docking and un docking back into handheld mode. Because I saw another review of the first Odin not being super great at it.
I would love to see a 720p version.
This is pass through charging as nubia phones??? Thanks.
If the community finds a way to make OS like batocera or jelos work, it will become the definitive emulation device even for PS3 and xbox360 systems
Unfortunately no, it's an arm based device, rpcs3, xenia and so many emulators are simply not designed for these systems
I am really enthused about the Odin 2. The Odin 1 was great; but, it had the same guts as the phone I'm typing this on so I passed. I liked the Razer Edge; but, it wasn't enough of an upgrade over my phone to justify $400. To get an Android device with an 8G2, active cooling, all that internal memory, and a sane aspect ratio screen for so little money relative to the competition is insane to me. I'm looking forward to your next videos about the Odin 2 because this is legitimately something I might actually buy.
Please don't recommend the Steam Deck. I don't have a Steam library. Thanks to Google Opinion Rewards I have a pretty extensive paid Android library and anything I want to emulate can be done on Android. I'd rather have something with better battery life, better screen, lighter weight, and that can run everything I care about over something that can do and run a ton of stuff I'll never use.
AYN went all out with this one holy cow
can you show a video of this handheld running cloud games please?
Finally, after 3 + years this is exactly what I have been waiting for regarding power and form factor. I wish it were $250-$275 but beggars can't be choosers.
Just wait a little bit more!
@@mmpsp693and then a little bit more again.
@@mmpsp693 No point in waiting when the base Odin2 is the only one that'll fall below the same price bracket as a Steam Deck or other full-fledged PC handheld.
Why bother when you could just get a Steam Deck?
@@JustinShapley I probably will get one eventually but I would like to have something a little more pocketable.
were you using the high performance mode when on yuzu?
Waiting for some MGS2 or MGS3 emulation on the next video.
Wifi 7 should have enough bandwidth for wireless HDMI 1080p@60 output without any compression. Imagine a little window like on a TV remote, bouncing the signal into a screen with a receiver window on the front, without the need for a 60ghz no-range dongle. Hot dang tech's getting spicy.
Think you could boot windows 10/11 or Steam OS on the oden 2? Would it be better to get a Loki or other handheld PC instead?
I can imagine doing some what'sapp call with this thing should be hilarious..
Wow!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I hope it can handle PC ports of OoT and Super Mario 64. If you know any hand helds that are affordable let me know. Lol. Hope emulation is well too. Hope you can play Honkai Star Rail, Genshin, Sword Art Online Integral Factor, and others. Is it the same size as the Switch?
The battery bypass is interesting. I can make it the most powerful tv box ever and do not sacrify battery. And having my games and save states everywhere.
Can you do the uconsole with the new raspberry pie5?
Hi etaprime. Can you please suggest a good keymapper software for android:-
