It's not impressive if you work on ls motors. You can get away with lots on that motor. Some guy made a video pouring sand, rocks, and Gatorade where oil goes 😂

No doubt! I met him like 4 years ago when Leroy ran its first 8.90s pass. I had my then 7 year old with me. My son bought an old glass bottle of coke with dale on it and wanted to give it to garret. He couldn’t have been nicer to us and took the time to talk to us, even though he was busy with leroy at the time.
I think a good coating of flex seal on the tires would make some good instant slicks. Ya know if you drive to the track with some radials and don't have a set of slicks to use at the track? Flex seal you some home made ones!

I’d recommend JB weld or high temp/pressure silicone-based gasket sealant, instead. But I think it’s cool the flex seal works at all. I’ve seen flex seal fail at medium high water pressure/volume in an irrigation system though. I think generally it’s not designed to hold pressure.

It failed because when applied thicker it needed more dry time and then you added an extra wet layer right before assembly. You needed to skip the last application and let it dry for a few days. Once dry, the dried seal would have crushed between the two surfaces sealing them completely. In essence the pressure blew out the wet flex seal. Try a heat lamp or a heat gun to expedite dry time and do it again to see if it blows out dry flex seal! Bet it doesn't. What do you got to lose! I'm sure you got a few cans left over. Lol. A heavy coat on the valve springs will dampen spring oscilation and allow for 20,000 RPM at .750 lift with even the heaviest valves. Also works to replace the rubber in failed harmonic balancers. Note: may require additional time to fully cure. Spray into spinning turbo to reduce impeller clearance and increase boost!

Flex Seal makes a great adhesive too! Fixed my favorite beach sandal straps and they're better than new! Also fixed the flaking seam seal the manufacturer put on my surfing gloves too. BTW it did a great job on my gutter leak too lol! Amazed it did so well as a head gasket. Too bad you didn't let it heat cycle a couple of times. It would have made a great version of one of those "there we were on a surf safari in Baja stuck with nothing but a can of flex seal" stories........

If you guys had called customer service and asked them the proper torque spec for an LS engine head with FlexSeal head gasket you wouldn't have had that issue! 😁
Maybe you should do a daily driver and see how long the flex seal head gasket will actually last? You might also try and put some metal rings around the cylinder bores to help with the pressures! I'm thinking stainless steel or maybe Titanium for the nitrous..lol You might be just a test or two from something amazing!

thats just how cars work. If you don't try to take care of it, it just seems to run forever. I have an 02 outback with 240k on her, shes misfired from rich on 1 bank and lean on the other for 3 years, no exhaust, bad 02 sensor, constant oil leak, oil in the cooling system, shes skipped timing twice. Never needed a head gasket. Changed the oil once and just refilled since in the 26k I've owned her. I beat on her like hell, and she's my winter beater. She just won't die.
@@fl4shb4ckGaming I had a Jeep Cherokee like that with the inline 6. It leaked oil, burned oil, every light on the dash was on...but I ran it for years. I can't remember how many times I'd forget to add oil and it would lose all oil pressure, would be so low that it didn't show on the dipstick, and I'd hear it hammering rods before I'd remember to add a quart or 2. Since it leaked/burned so much oil I never had to change it and never changed the filter. It had close to 300k miles on it and I sold it for $500 still running great. It never once left me stranded.

As time goes by, the clips that hold the trim to the body weaken. That's when the trim on your car will start rattling in the wind. A bead of Flex Paste on the trim fills the gap and absorbs the vibration. Nice and quiet again.

Since y'all have that leftover flex seal, maybe you could see how it reacts as a traction compound? Y'all could try it as a tire plug as well for punctured tires by spraying it on the inside and outside of the tire. Surely there has to be more applicable uses for this wonder spray, and y'all may as well get your use out of all these cans ya got, cuz I don't think Jeffrey is gonna take em back at Lowes.
Actually, I went into get my tire patched up from a hole. The tire mechanic through patches on the inside of the tire, then he painted over all the patches with the flex seal. I still have the same tire on my car after another 10k miles

I stuck a 40lbs sink to the wall with a couple lines of flex shot (rubbery caulk made by flex seal). Before I even put the pedestal back under it, it was already sturdy as hell, able to take the weight of me leaning on it. Awesome stuff.

@Tyler I used JB WELD to fix a cracked block (water jacket) in an 350 CID boat engine. It lasted for over 15 years (till it froze again and broke in the same place) The stuff is phenomenal.

LOL yeah I mean I would love to see this too! But as a mechanic I also must say you’re probably going to want to get that head gasket leak fixed. Definitely not good to drive around like that. I personally would not recommend flexseal unless you have a low horsepower and compression engine. 😂
It'll actually work temporarily 100%, but overtime it will fail. Flex seal is basically just rubber, and rubber is used all throughout the car already. The problem happens because most rubber gaskets in cars are treated to be resistant towards stuff like oil, gas, and other things in car engines. Flex seal hasn't been treated for any of this stuff, so yeah. A lot of people seem to forget that flex seal is literally just rubber.
Honestly thought it was going to let the piss out as soon as it fired, I'm legitimately impressed. That is a legit last day race week fix. That would get you home.
@@twoeightythreez yea but they then added a fresh layer and put it back together, if anything letting it sit overnight made it worse because it left a hard line where it pooled and dried, and i'd bet money that is where it eventually failed, putting it back together after spraying it fresh and giving it a couple of hours to dry would probably work best.
One tube of true GE construction silicone and steel shim head gaskets served the Turbo Buick community well for years for those that wanted to push the envelope, good stuff, try that next...but I understand where flex seal might be a contender...lol.
I wouldn't use it for this, but my auto tech teacher back in the day used it for the seals of his doors on his 99 Chrysler town and country. They were leaky and he would have had to have them make new rubber seals from a factory and it would have been crazy expensive. So instead he used layer after layer of the flex seal sheets, and then sprayed it with the rubber in the can. Took a few repetitions to get it to stick out enough for the door to make contact, but he totally fixed it with that. And it's reasonable to believe it'll probably last longer than the factory rubber from Chrysler. So it's decent stuff I think, just depends what you're using it for 😅
I used flex seal to fix water leaks on my 2003 Dodge neon SRT-4. Underneath the windshield wiper cowl there are welds that go bad and leak over time. When it rained I was getting like a half inch of water on my passenger side floor. Car stunk of mildew. I used the flex seal, shampooed the carpets and problem solved!
had an old nissan pickup (the tiny one) that had been rolled over onto the passenger side. truck run great but had in 8 inch gap between the cab and the new doors window frame. drove it like that till it got cold out, and used expanding foam and plastic bags to fill the gap. expanding foam on the cab, then plastic bags between the foam and the door so you can get the door back open after the foam expands and cures. A razor blade and some primer and from 20 feet it wasn't that bad. way better seal than factory too.
The best thing about this is how the flex seal will optimise the coolant and oil flow through the galleys, one medium coat will surely make them flows more better!
Will flex seal actually repair a hole in the hull of a boat? According to the infomercials yes, but tune in next week to find out if it works for cleeter and gang

One of the best sealants I've ever used to get me home in an pinch I used this for an quick fix on my rear deferential on my Peterbilt to get me home when I had a crack in the casing it was leaking bad at the time but it did slow it down enough to make it home for the long trip back

We had an old Allis Chamblers tractor that needed an exhaust gasket. We took a piece of felt roofing underlay ( tar paper) between the head and manifold, poked a hole in the the center of each port. Worked until we traded it for a larger one two years later.
I'd really like to see this tested on just a normal vehicle and driven on the street to see how many heat cycles it could handle and how long it would last. Yank the head off the cobalt lol
Cleeter, you should do this to one of the 4.6's from an old crown vic you have sitting around. Make the head gaskets with Flex Seal. No boost no nitrous then go out cruising and racing around. Be cool to see how long it'd last. 😎👍

Well let me tell you something, there was a well publicized motoring test in the late 1970s for Dow Corning RTV doing exactly this (obviously no nitrous) and on a V8 too. It was fine for hundreds of miles.
Dow products are serious badassery. I have used many of their products that you've probably never seen before that cost $100+ for a small tube. I had no idea sealants could be that good. I still can't get all of the Dow vacuum grease off of some of my instruments.

I agree with Seth’s garage, try it on a regular daily driver. Retorque the heads after a couple of drives and see how long it lasts. It was very impressive that it lasted as long as it did

It's not impressive if you work on ls motors. You can get away with lots on that motor. Some guy made a video pouring sand, rocks, and Gatorade where oil goes 😂

I’d recommend JB weld or high temp/pressure silicone-based gasket sealant, instead. But I think it’s cool the flex seal works at all.
I’ve seen flex seal fail at medium high water pressure/volume in an irrigation system though. I think generally it’s not designed to hold pressure.

It failed because when applied thicker it needed more dry time and then you added an extra wet layer right before assembly. You needed to skip the last application and let it dry for a few days. Once dry, the dried seal would have crushed between the two surfaces sealing them completely. In essence the pressure blew out the wet flex seal. Try a heat lamp or a heat gun to expedite dry time and do it again to see if it blows out dry flex seal! Bet it doesn't. What do you got to lose! I'm sure you got a few cans left over. Lol. Flex Seal makes a great adhesive too! Fixed my favorite beach sandal straps and they're better than new! Also fixed the flaking seam seal the manufacturer put on my surfing gloves too. BTW it did a great job on my gutter leak too lol! Amazed it did so well as a head gasket. Too bad you didn't let it heat cycle a couple of times. It would have made a great version of one of those "there we were on a surf safari in Baja stuck with nothing but a can of flex seal" stories........

thats just how cars work. If you don't try to take care of it, it just seems to run forever. I have an 02 outback with 240k on her, shes misfired from rich on 1 bank and lean on the other for 3 years, no exhaust, bad 02 sensor, constant oil leak, oil in the cooling system, shes skipped timing twice. Never needed a head gasket. Changed the oil once and just refilled since in the 26k I've owned her. I beat on her like hell, and she's my winter beater. She just won't die.
@@fl4shb4ckGaming I had a Jeep Cherokee like that with the inline 6. It leaked oil, burned oil, every light on the dash was on...but I ran it for years. I can't remember how many times I'd forget to add oil and it would lose all oil pressure, would be so low that it didn't show on the dipstick, and I'd hear it hammering rods before I'd remember to add a quart or 2. Since it leaked/burned so much oil I never had to change it and never changed the filter. It had close to 300k miles on it and I sold it for $500 still running great. It never once left me stranded.

That doesn't leave a whole lot of question about it does it.
As time goes by, the clips that hold the trim to the body weaken. That's when the trim on your car will start rattling in the wind. A bead of Flex Paste on the trim fills the gap and absorbs the vibration. Nice and quiet again.

Actually, I went into get my tire patched up from a hole. The tire mechanic through patches on the inside of the tire, then he painted over all the patches with the flex seal. I still have the same tire on my car after another 10k miles

I stuck a 40lbs sink to the wall with a couple lines of flex shot (rubbery caulk made by flex seal). Before I even put the pedestal back under it, it was already sturdy as hell, able to take the weight of me leaning on it. Awesome stuff.

@Tyler I used JB WELD to fix a cracked block (water jacket) in an 350 CID boat engine. It lasted for over 15 years (till it froze again and broke in the same place) The stuff is phenomenal.

LOL yeah I mean I would love to see this too! But as a mechanic I also must say you’re probably going to want to get that head gasket leak fixed. Definitely not good to drive around like that. I personally would not recommend flexseal unless you have a low horsepower and compression engine. 😂

can confirm, flex sealed a bmw 4.4 v8. works in a pinch, but way better off fixing the gasket
It'll actually work temporarily 100%, but overtime it will fail. Flex seal is basically just rubber, and rubber is used all throughout the car already. The problem happens because most rubber gaskets in cars are treated to be resistant towards stuff like oil, gas, and other things in car engines. Flex seal hasn't been treated for any of this stuff, so yeah.
A lot of people seem to forget that flex seal is literally just rubber.
I kinda want to see how many laps it would make it around the freedom factory with both flex sealed gaskets 🤔

@@twoeightythreez yea but they then added a fresh layer and put it back together, if anything letting it sit overnight made it worse because it left a hard line where it pooled and dried, and i'd bet money that is where it eventually failed, putting it back together after spraying it fresh and giving it a couple of hours to dry would probably work best.

One tube of true GE construction silicone and steel shim head gaskets served the Turbo Buick community well for years for those that wanted to push the envelope, good stuff, try that next...but I understand where flex seal might be a contender...lol.

I wouldn't use it for this, but my auto tech teacher back in the day used it for the seals of his doors on his 99 Chrysler town and country. They were leaky and he would have had to have them make new rubber seals from a factory and it would have been crazy expensive. So instead he used layer after layer of the flex seal sheets, and then sprayed it with the rubber in the can. Took a few repetitions to get it to stick out enough for the door to make contact, but he totally fixed it with that. And it's reasonable to believe it'll probably last longer than the factory rubber from Chrysler. So it's decent stuff I think, just depends what you're using it for 😅
I used flex seal to fix water leaks on my 2003 Dodge neon SRT-4. Underneath the windshield wiper cowl there are welds that go bad and leak over time. When it rained I was getting like a half inch of water on my passenger side floor. Car stunk of mildew. I used the flex seal, shampooed the carpets and problem solved!
had an old nissan pickup (the tiny one) that had been rolled over onto the passenger side. truck run great but had in 8 inch gap between the cab and the new doors window frame. drove it like that till it got cold out, and used expanding foam and plastic bags to fill the gap. expanding foam on the cab, then plastic bags between the foam and the door so you can get the door back open after the foam expands and cures. A razor blade and some primer and from 20 feet it wasn't that bad. way better seal than factory too.

I heard they have a jet boat that has some cracks in it.
It’s not that great I used it on the roof of my house to stop a leak and 3 weeks later the flex seal was cracked apart and leak started again.

One of the best sealants I've ever used to get me home in an pinch I used this for an quick fix on my rear deferential on my Peterbilt to get me home when I had a crack in the casing it was leaking bad at the time but it did slow it down enough to make it home for the long trip back

I've actually used a grinder and sanding pad to flatten out my heads and the block. Make sure you got a good straight edge and it works great.

I know a couple mechanics who would do that. They would just use the fine grit and turn the speed down on the pneumatic tool!
We had an old Allis Chamblers tractor that needed an exhaust gasket. We took a piece of felt roofing underlay ( tar paper) between the head and manifold, poked a hole in the the center of each port. Worked until we traded it for a larger one two years later.
I'd really like to see this tested on just a normal vehicle and driven on the street to see how many heat cycles it could handle and how long it would last. Yank the head off the cobalt lol

There's head gasket in a can type stuff for that, just pour into your cooling system. Have done it couple of times and worked in 100hp beaters

Well let me tell you something, there was a well publicized motoring test in the late 1970s for Dow Corning RTV doing exactly this (obviously no nitrous) and on a V8 too. It was fine for hundreds of miles.
Dow products are serious badassery. I have used many of their products that you've probably never seen before that cost $100+ for a small tube. I had no idea sealants could be that good. I still can't get all of the Dow vacuum grease off of some of my instruments.
Finally the engineers at McFarland racing are answering the questions we all need to know.

Id like to see yas try a used head gasket with flex seal on each side of the gasket like you hear everyone use the copper spray...i bet it would hold awhile
But copper takes heat better. Copper is also much stronger slightly soft but not near as soft as flex seal especially when it gets hot.
