Have a 2006 cobalt ss the thing is supercharged, and is a little monster.
Used to have an Audi T1.8 (2004) 120kw, chipped to 200hp and 350Nm, now they get that with a 1.4L turbo engine. 500eur tuning with a laptop.
200hp cars 20 years ago weighed 2/3rds of what 200hp cars now mike h.
Power to weight ratio is more important than power figures compared in absolute terms.

@@user-ed7wf1ks8j that dude Is claiming a maximum MAF of only 450kg/h which equals to 165lbs/min (around 165whp only) and a peak pressure of only 5psi, so not nearly as efficient as even 1 torque amp which Is only 2500usd. Maximum airflow doesnt even get Any higher than one torqueamp, letalone 2 in this setup. Any car over 150-160whp would only be restricted power wise

@@eamh2002 yeah once they get decent controllers and come down in price, these things will take over. in true honda style id have mine all activate at vtec crossover, and just add fuel on the WOT column until the wideband looks fine lol
I think they *are* pulse width modulated, the little "boost adjustment knob" seems to be a smooth, infinite step potentiometer, compared to a stepped voltage gate. Pretty much just a giant ESC. I would like the button always on with a radio style "volume knob" or maybe like a bicycle brake lever by the shifter that smoothly increases from "off" to full power with infinite steps in between.

@@eamh2002 Honestly I have been wondering why hybrid cars don't have electric superchargers for a decade now. They already are carrying around a big battery pack. Why not give them an electric supercharger so they can have boost and have power when you want like when passing or going up an on ramp. Best of both worlds, great fuel economy and bursts of power when you need it.

Need to run a "Dump valve" so in NA you are bypassing the turbo restrictions.
thats how my magnuson supercharger works , it runs a bypass until the engine goes into vacuum when you get on it. pretty dang effecient

That is REALLY great! Wow! And you didn't have a piston ring rip the top of a piston off! Amazing when you consider you were using stock ring gaps and that is one of the major failure points with turbos! It would be interesting to see the air temp at the outlet when running, maybe that cooler air and the high octane fuel helps keep the rings alive? I wonder what your track time would have been like with just 2 adults in the car instead of 4?
Most stock NA engines will handle 5-6psi. Higher boost for short periods.
hey guys using the torque amp as an air pump if you pull theair from an airconditioned source plus increase of boost you get denser air as well

It's not bad for what your getting. You have to remember it isn't using the exhaust to spin up the turbo, so they spin up instantly less turbo lag. Also because it doesn't use exhaust to spin up the turbo, install is much easier.

@@robertanderson7784 Admittedly I did not watch the entire video. What I need to know is; what is the power source? What wattage and amperage do the turbos draw. Cost is nominal compared to typical exhaust driven turbo systems as one does not need all the extra plumbing and intercoolers. There is absolutely no parasitic loss here but I would like to see a schematic with the circuitry required and the power source/demands.
If they get enough orders to mass produce these things the price could go way down

What if you make a torque amp sponsored car that makes like 600hp, like 15 TA’s on it
eventually you'd need a bigger alternator / more batteries like on a big stereo setup, which would rob more horsepower from the engine - but if you found the right balance i'd imagine you could get pretty good power

In 1990 with my Mustang 5.0L notchback, my buddy wired up his RC remote to a propeller in the air intake. It was worth about .2 in the 1320. He was standing on the side of the track for the passes with the remote and the antenna going up and out his shirt. The interference from the track tower caused the fan to go on and off and my mass air flow to go crazy. So I’m sitting there at the line waiting for the xmas lights and my car is surging from 200rpm’s nearly stalling to 3k rpms. Ahhh 5e memories. So I appreciate this video.
Compound system is also possible however, typically when compounding turbos it usually uses a small turbo pushing it's boost into the big turbo. The idea is? Better quality boost. That is better compressed air as the 2nd turbo can concentrate on solely compressor since #1 is feeding it boost air supply.
James has changed so much since he became a part of the channel. He was the super quiet and experienced drag racer and fabricator. Now he has caught whatever brain damage Cleetus has and really came out of his nitrous bottle shell.
