      The only thing that's changed is how much more confident you come across in this video as compared to the last one about the k2. The fact of the matter is if you want a board that checks all the boxes budget, rgb, wireless, hot swappable. I dont think there are many options out there, the keyboards you review on this are missing atleast one of those features so no the k2 is still the go to board for all the features at a cheap price..

      @@pqdb7303 I got a cat instead. much more reliable and they at least push stuff off a desktop instead of spilling it on the keyboard. The worst part is my former g/f wouldn't even offer to replace it. saying, you have so many keyboards why do you need to replace that keyboard? completely oblivious to the value of that keyboard.

    • @RCmies
      @RCmies 3 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      You're saying it like it's a bad thing that she tried to clean it with running water. Probably would've worked if you cleaned and dried it properly and didn't plug it in for another day or two.

    • @patrickwingert2018
      @patrickwingert2018 3 ปีที่แล้ว +139

      @@RCmies Tried that. Didn't work. I put it in a drying box for a month after removing the keycaps and drying all the water I could reach. The motherboard itself was floating in the water. when she gave it to me? All she did after rinsing it was set it on the counter where it sat for two days till I got home from an off-site meeting. I can confirm the switches are working but they are soldered to the motherboard. I can trace power to the first chip but no voltage over the chip. I can't replace the chip since I lack the required equipment. I can replace the entire keeb for $69 so it's not worth spending hours de-soldering and testing the mainboard. then replacing chips and capacitors that have been shorted out. All its good for now is parts unless I get a replacement motherboard. Then I have to de-solder and resolder the switches.

    I just ordered the K2v2 hotswap. It's pretty much the only affordable prebuilt 75% option that has an ISO option, therefore it is still by default the best option. May end up giving it the typical silicone case filling, switch lubing, stab swap treatment, may not. Was planning on going a bit more premium for my next keyboard, but my current one is rapidly deteriorating and i'm in acute need of a new one so i went the easy route and ordered the K2.

I seriously don't understand how most keyboard manufacturers dont offer both ANSI and ISO layouts now that they often offer both 60%, 65%, TKL and so on. Based on sound, I like #4 for the space bar stabs, and #1 for the rest of the keys
    I would want to mod all of the options though: Neoprene, thicker keycaps, lubed+filmed switches, and clipped+greased stabs.
    With more and more companies offering pre lubed switches, and even pre modded stabs, I can image we will have some entry keyboards in the future that dont require any mods to out of the box.

    I'm currently looking around for a 75% and it's looking like K2 so far - the usb hub on RK84 is tempting, but they only offer the selection of basic red, blue or brown switches out of box, not to mention much blander looking keycaps.

    The K2 actually got me quite far with report writing, assignments and all that when I needed a keyboard for home school. It was amazing to me not having a mechanical keyboard before that point, but as time went on it was clear how far it’s fallen behind and how my needs have changed.
    slightly more than two years later I’ve upgraded to a Razer Huntsman Mini and oh boy has it been such an improvement to how it feels, it doesn’t sound the best (but it sounds LIGHTYEARS better than my K2, especially since I tried out Linear switches from the Gateron Blues I had on my K2) and I love it! am glad I was also able to sell off my K2 :)

    • @JimmyTulip1
      @JimmyTulip1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm... well, it's not something I would insist on. But having the option of reprogramming everything about the keyboard, without it being dependent on the OS or drivers or installed software is a nice touch. There's always the option of a VM for the software, so that's not an issue in my opinion. I use a Win-VM for other such proprietary stuff as well. For example, I would really like to remap the screenshot key, it is too easy to touch it by mistake on the K3 and it's pretty annoying...

    A while back I was in the market for a mechanical keyboard for my son’s birthday. I watched this video and it was instrumental in my purchase of an RK84 for him. At the time, I had the idea that he could customize the keycaps and that the exclusion of Mac specific keys would not be that much of an issue. That was before I discovered that Mac centric shine through keycaps are insanely hard to find. When it came time for me to order a new keyboard for myself, I opted for a K2v2. You might think that the lack of software would be a drawback, but seeing as how the RK84 has software for most platforms EXCEPT MacOS, it becomes a non issue. I am happy with both keyboards and don’t regret purchasing the RK84, but I find it odd that they include a Mac mode but not the software or keycaps to make it more useful to MacOS users. I am still on the lookout for shine through caps with the Mac specific keys if anyone has a recommendation. 😀
