Hey there! I totally agree with you on the importance of timestamps and progress bars in videos. They definitely make it easier to navigate through content. By the way, have you considered checking out the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a great tool for keeping your desk and other spaces clean. It offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, making it a versatile tool for maintaining a spotless environment. Plus, the price is quite reasonable compared to other brands. Let me know if you want more details or recommendations!
Agreed. Have just got into it. Ordered my first set of stuff a week ago. And because of the 11.11 sale on all 3 online shopping platforms that i usually use, i got another base+pcb. 💸💸 yes, the first set of stuff haven't even arrive yet.
Just get a Unicomp Classic 103 or 104 and you'll never want anything else. There are reasons that the IBM Model M is the most legendary keyboard and history that go far beyond just being the originator of the keyboard layout that everyone else copied. It's like $104USD and it will stop your mechanical keyboard hobby cold. After using buckling spring keys, Cherry MX switches feel cheap and fragile.
i'm completely new to this whole mechanical keyboard community, but this video is definitely so well done as isn't an overwhelmingly amount of information and genuinely very informative for beginners! Thank u!! :D
Mechanical keyboards are a new thing they've been around for years when I had my 1st computer back in 98 it was an Apple computer with the little rainbow Apple on it it came with a mechanical keyboard most most original keyboards were mechanical
Hey there! If you're looking to keep your desktop clean and optimize your setup, I suggest checking out the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule. It offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, perfect for cleaning keyboards, tight spaces, and even your car's interior. Plus, it has multiple tubes and high-quality filters for long-lasting performance. Give it a try! 🖥💨
I got into mech keyboards two weeks ago, and I'm addicted. I already ordered the gmmk pro. I kind of wish I didn't get into mech keyboards.... It's a good idea to have few endgame keebs rather than continually buying. Because it can get really expensive. There are two basic levels to this hobby. First level is expensive enough, but the 2nd one is customising your own keeb. You can just continue to buy keebs from companies like ducky, leopold, varmillo OR buy your own case, pcb, keycaps, switches, cables, lube, soldering iron etc etc. and make your own. This is the most expensive route. And if you don't practice moderation this hobby can be insatiable because there will always be those keycaps you want, switches you've never tried, cases that look retro. It's an endless rabbit hole. Just make a decision to get a few and be content with that.
i'm not really interested in building my own mechanical keyboard, but i do wanna learn more about mechanical keyboards, and this was super clear and well explained. thank you for this video!
Hey there! I've been using the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule for a while now and I absolutely love it. It's perfect for keeping my desktop clean and keyboard crumb-free. Plus, it's portable and has a long-lasting battery, making it great for on-the-go use. Highly recommend it! 🙌🔧
This is, hands down, the best introductions to mechanical keyboards I've ever seen on TH-cam. No other youtuber, even the ones that are specialized in this topic, have done such an informative and concise video. Thank you!
Hey there! Thanks for the comment! I just wanted to share a cool gadget I recently came across called the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule. It's a compact device with powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, perfect for keeping your desk and living spaces spotless. Plus, it has other features like swift keyboard cleaning and efficient car interior maintenance. Check it out if you're interested!
Oh my goodness, this video was awesome! It was so concise and informative, and the PERFECT length of time. You explained things to me so clearly, and in the world of mechanical keyboards, where there is so much to learn and so much terminology to keep up with, this just made my search for my first mechanical keyboard WORLDS easier. So thank you for taking the time and effort to make this! ❤
Hey there! Thanks for your comment! I totally agree with you - that video sounds amazing! It's always great to find concise and informative content, especially when diving into the world of mechanical keyboards. Let me know if you need any recommendations or have any questions - I'm here to help! By the way, have you heard of the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a game-changer for keeping your desk clean and it comes with some impressive features. Check it out!
thank you for explaining so clearly, I was wondering why everybody was switching to these keyboards aside from the cute RGB. After typinga lot otday on my magic keyboard I started to notice how pressing down these shallow keys really strains my fingers so I'll look into it!
I bought a red switch keyboard after using mems for like 20 years. After using my red switch for like 8 months, i couldn't get use to it. My fingers stained a lot. I always felt like i had to bottom up the keys since there is no physical feedback. Anyways, i bought another mechanical keyboard which has blue switches, now i'm quite happy with it. It feels so comfortable. My fingers don't strain anymore. I love the bump and click noise. It lets u know if the key is activated. I also don't do typos anymore.
This video is absolutely organized very well. I am into the mechanical keyboard recently, and this video does help a lot. I was considering buying a brown switch, but now I changed my mind after this video. I'll buy a red switch! Having a good keyboard just helps me to enjoy more when typing. Thank you for the video!
thus is such a good intro vid! been bumping around some other intro vids to mech keyboards and this has filled in A TONNN of gaps, and I really appreciate you coming from the perspective of someone newer to the scene rather than a decades old seasoned vet. this has definitely informed some of my choices with my first keyboard!
Thank you for explaining all of this! I got my first Bluetooth mechanical keyboard with red switches for my iPad Pro and I’m glad I learned more about it before I transition to it! Appreciate this review very much!
Thank you for such a comprehensive, informative yet concise video! So many other creators describe the switches and make recommendations but don't explain what they actually mean. I finally get it thanks to you :) this is truly the beginner's guide. One question I do have is: what's the importance of lube and stabilizers?
This was so helpful. I just started getting into mechanical keyboards because I work from home 90% of the time now and have been upgrading and revamping my office. Thanks so much!
I discovered this hobby around a year ago. Now I am typing on one of my 3 custom keyboards and waiting for my 4th to arrive. My current daily driver is a cannonkeys bakeneko60 with an aluminum plate, a 30a oring, spring swapped and lubed cherry hyperglide blacks, and it's wearing gmk hennessey with gmk pixel accents.
Just getting into the hobby now - just wanted to say thankyou so much for giving a nice thorough breakdown. I don't think I've watched a vid yet that explained why the switches were called cherries, now I feel llike my brain's finally taking in the information lol. Great video!
Your information is super helpful. Even though I have different keyboard needs than the ones you prefer, your explanations were so clear, concise, and easy to understand that I now know what to look for in a keyboard. It's extremely helpful to actually understand this topic and not just have to go off of a person recommending a keyboard because they like it. Thank you so much! :)
Same for me. Decided to get a mechanical keyboard for my home office. Picked the red switches as I am typing a lot. Tested brown switches and it was just too weird. Ordered an akko keyboard. Will be delivered next week. Can't wait.
I so appreciate that you answered all my questions in 10 minutes compared to me having to look for hours for all the answers to the small separate questions that I had. Thank you for the great video 😊💜
Hey there! I'm glad you found the guide helpful! If you're looking for a versatile and efficient cleaning tool, you might want to check out the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule. It offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, making it perfect for maintaining a spotless environment on your desk, in your car, and more. The key features, like the strong suction power and keyboard cleaning function, make it a valuable addition to any tech enthusiast's toolkit. Built my first in the tofu65 with hot swap and after modding the crap out of it I think it’s great. I also reserved a GMMK Pro which is definitely a board every enthusiast should check out. It’s hot swap, rgb south facing per key, gasket mounted, aluminum body, 75% layout, with a programmable rotary knob, and it’s reasonably priced for a barebones setup.
Thank you so much for talking about your experience! coming from a laptop, i've been thinking of trying out mech keyboards coming and all the videos and info i find are made by people who are already knee-deep into the hobby. They tend to gloss over a lot of the introductory parts even in beginner guides (like what feels the most like to laptop keyboards etc). I was already set on trying out brown switches based on info i read but now i think reds might be better for me
I agree!!! I transitioned to mechanical with a very cheap keyboard with red linears and it was very nice, however, later on I got the epomaker ep84 with gateron browns and I loved it. Now I can tell with certainty that my preference is tactile and helps me write faster and with more precision. However, linears are also very nice but I make a lot more mistakes with those. Clicky is a no for me, I do think the noise is kinda nice - for a short period of time - but I don’t think I would be able to work 9+ hours on a clicky switch. Just no.
I’m in the process of building a gaming computer and I’ve been wanting to get a mechanical keyboard sooner and this was super helpful! Thank you for making this!
This video is absolutely amazing!!! I'm new to PC gaming and slowing leading all the customize stuff I can do! I actually now know what Im looking for in a keyboard!! ❤️

'There's just endless ways to customize your keyboard' MEANING 'Endless ways to burn your money with this new hobby' HAHAHAHA But seriously, good video and really helpful for beginners :) All my questions are answered :)
I just ordered an Actto bluetooth mini keyboard and its arriving in a few days. I haven't used a mechanical keyboard in a long time so I am really excited to see how it works for me.
As a user of exclusively ergonomic keyboards (mainly MS Sculpt for the last decade or so), I definitely agree that my mechanical keyboard feels more ergonomic; i.e. requires less force pressing the keys, aka less operational force. I recently ventured into the mechanical keyboard realm with the purchase of a Keychron V10 Max (75% Alice layout), and I am absolutely loving it! Before, I was utterly convinced I would never use anything but chiclet keys, and I cannot stand the sound of "clicky" keys or even brown or blue switches. I have Sensory Processing Disorder, so sounds are magnified for me. Yet the sound of these Gateron Jupiter Reds is really nice ... totally surprising, for me! I love the soft actuation of the keys on this V10 Max, though I'm still getting used to the slightly different layout (the left hand is a couple mm in from where I'm used to it, since this is a 75% kbd ... about one key's difference), and the OSA caps are also something to get used to. My typing style is very "flat" -- hence my love for chiclet style -- after having had RSI's early on in my former corporate-office jobs, which led me to study ergonomics in-depth. Today I'm awaiting delivery of a set of XDA caps to see how those compare. Overall, I'm really excited about this completely new area of computing that I'd long heard about but was too timid to try until now.🙂
I think you should do more mech keyboard insights and reviews. Love the way how you describe each detail. I enjoyed watching this video even though i'm not a beginner on mech keyboards
This video was my intro to the mech keyboard hobby. Though the reason i bought the keyboard i have is that it is what i thought was a bit old school...so it may be a mechanical keyboard. I'm going to get a proper mechanical now for sure.
And for those of us who grew up using manual typewriters and electric typewriters who do a lot of typing instead of gaming, the mechanical keyboard is much better. It allows your finger joints to "bounce" and less damaging to them. I use a Rosewill with the cherry MX blue switches; yes, it's a bit clickety clackety but we're used to that because it's a similar feel and sound as manual and electric typewriters. I love my keyboard, and I have a cute little alien ESC key; however, keyboards themselves are definitely not a hobby of mine. I like that I have a sturdy keyboard to handle the amount of typing I do on a day-to-day basis as a regular $20 Walmart keyboard wouldn't last me two weeks.
thank you for this perfect guide for beginners ! Personnaly i still feel like trying tactiles switches for my first mechanical keyboard even tho you are right it must feel weird at first
Hey, there Wendy, nice to see you getting interested in mech keebs, based on your description of linear reds and tactile browns, i would suggest you avoid strong tactile switches like the Holy Pandas or Glorious Pandas or the Durock T1s as they have strong feedback which some keyboard enthusiasts prefer. I assume you prefer a switch with lighter spring weight and a rounder bump. If in the future you decide to get a hot swap keyboard then try the Everglide Oreo switches for a round tactile bump, kailh box whites for a quieter click and lighter spring weight, milky gateron yellows for a linear thats similar to reds but with a progressive spring that is more resistant to bottoming out, and cherry mx clears for a super lightweight spring weight
Such a good video! I wish I had all this information when I first got into gaming last year and impulsively bought a blue switch keyboard (I didn't adapt very well)... but actually I kind of need a new one now, so this is so helpful!
Getting ready for a purchase; your quick study info was very insightful... I believe Gateron linear or Cherry linear blacks are my choice based on the muted soft click tone. Thank you!
thank you for making this video! I was curious why this keyboard is more popular now a days. This helped me understand what kind of keyboard I want when my husband builds a PC for me lol
Neat video. Really helpful. Been trying to get one for myself and did fair but of research. But this video sums up almost all aspects of mechanical keyboard.
Great video. I just wanted to say, all the laptops I have experience with have been more like tactile switches, in that they have the peak of resistance at the top and there is a “break” a sudden drop in the force required to move the key further. I think the confusing thing about the Cherry MX browns is the peak resistance is not at the very beginning, so it feels more like a bump part way down.
Hey, thanks for your comment! I completely agree with you. The Cherry MX Browns can feel a bit different compared to typical laptop keyboards. By the way, have you heard about the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a compact and efficient tool for cleaning your desktop setup, car, and more. It offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities. Definitely worth considering for keeping your keyboard and other tech gadgets clean!
I love when creators add timestamps and add a progress bar. I also love this video it was helpful.
I completely agree with you
time stamps in the progress bar are godsends T.T
Agree :D I can easily go back to the part I need to watch again.

for me, the worst part was buying an apple magic keyboard a month before i got into MKs
You should check out some cheap mechanical keyboards that are really good like the Red Dragon brand and eagle tech keyboards

@Mike Studmuffin which one?
It's a toss up between MKs and audiophile for me. Head-fi forum's unofficial tagline for newcomers is "Welcome! Sorry for your wallet." 🤣

wow, thank you for this. Im planning to buy the AKko 3908 asa black and pink keyboard, i just find it hard to choose which switches to choose
I just bought “ZIYOU LANG RK-T8 Wired 65%” from Amazon. First mechanical keyboard so I’m not sure what to expect, but it’s awesome.
Thanks for the guide! Very helpful
This was an INSANELY helpful video for a beginner 🙏🏼👍🏻👍🏻
This was extremely helpful and I love the timestamps. Thank you so much for helping me. :)
thanks for this video- I, too, am new to mech keyboards and this info really helps make it clear! My new one is out for delivery today!! :)
Thank you for this video! It’s very informative!
This video was super informative and helpful. Thank you!
thank you for this perfect guide for beginners !
My blue switch keyboard makes my ears bleed lol
Great video ! You are so fluid and I can tell you really know what you are talking about. Thanks for the tips !
Getting ready for a purchase; your quick study info was very insightful... I believe Gateron linear or Cherry linear blacks are my choice based on the muted soft click tone. Thank you!
Just picked up an Anne Pro 2 this week
thank you for making this video! I was curious why this keyboard is more popular now a days. This helped me understand what kind of keyboard I want when my husband builds a PC for me lol
Awesome video! I also went from gateron reds to akko browns, waiting on my gmmk pro with glorious pandas!
Price-wise, how did they differ?
it's rare to find someone so open minded, bless you.
Neat video. Really helpful. Been trying to get one for myself and did fair but of research. But this video sums up almost all aspects of mechanical keyboard.
thank you so much for making this video!! it was incredibly helpful and informative : ]
This video answered all my questions. Nice presentation. Sweet voice.👍🏽
Yo love the video! I finished my first a couple months ago and started a second one since I miss my 75%
oh my gosh you hit the space bar with your left thumb or right index finger! How unique ;)
This was very helpful. Video provided very good info
Very simple, clear, and helpful. Thanks!
This was extremely helpful thank you so much!
Great breakdown! 👍🏾
