I love how underrated the Chevy Colorado is. Tacoma has only been out for half a year and has already had as many if not more issues as the 2023 Colorado in nearly 2 years. Not to mention it's better all round with a more comfortable backseat. And I'm saying this as a huge Toyota fanboy.
What issues are you talking about? There was one issue with the shutter grille. Everything since then are just isolated reports, which are normal with every truck, including the Colorado.
@@adamsrosales6519 transmissions failing? check engine lights? quality control? Colorados have always had something up but they haven't been too bad... These new tacomas are junk. Overpriced and nobody wants them.
@@Downtimelost yup, I honesty like the new Land Cruisers and Lexus GX's, even their Sequoias. They did their SUV's super well. I have some mixed opinions on the Tundra. The quality control has mostly been resolved and I believe they can probably fix the bearings too. But the Tacoma may just be the worst vehicle to come off production line in a very long time. They are overpriced 5-10k above competition and the quality control is worse than any other Toyota we've ever seen.
If it was a green gear that was on the display that is the Dynamic Performance Mode. It basically holds the transmission in the current gear after "a quick release of a heavily applied accelerator pedal." It's supposed to help give engine breaking for greater control. I've seen it several times in my ZR2 but never remembered to look it up until you mentioned it in your video. Thanks for reminding me to look it haha.
That was awesome. The Chevy was smooth on the second course. I am partial to the Tacoma as it seemed to be the best all around 4x4 but I was disappointed that it chickened out on the 1st course. The Jeep has that independent articulation down. Thank you for doing hard core 4x4 in newer vehicles
Bronco is a popping and cracking noise maker. Edit: yes I’m sticking with the ridge line bed tent to keep that weight down and other gear weight lower. Awesome brother
An X-gen 2008 FJ here. Nice mix of vehicles and commentary. Please keep your original IFS axles if you can. Purchase spares in case....my only regret listening to a repair shop that it is cheap to just replace with an aftermarket.
*The first obstacle is called Edison Hill (because of the Edison transmission tower) and we took our stock heigh Lexus GX460 up it and the footage is an excellent showcase of Toyota's ATRAC system* th-cam.com/video/CY7t4hipYlI/w-d-xo.html
Also, what is that screen looking thing on the left of your steering wheel? Is that factory or an add on? Would be cool to see accessories you recommend if it's something aftermarket.
I'm torn between Taco TRD Offroad 6mt, a Colorado ZR2, or Canyon AT4X with AEV package. The 6mt is a huge selling point for me, but the canyon just looks really aggressive. Tough choice.
I would have to say any gm truck zr2 or the canyon at4 or at4x these trucks has been dialed drive train wise iv heard lots of issues with the new taco sadly :/ ADD off roads Tacoma has a blown trans at 500 miles :/
Great video. I heard something about the Colorado computer kicking drivers out of 4 wheel drive when using the break pedal and gas at the same time to increase torque while off-roading. It was explained that designers want drivers to use the preset computer drive modes. Have you run into that?
So the !!! on your dash, you are not completely disengaged from traction control. Not sure how to do it with the new 2024 or 23 for that matter (only had it a moth now, still doing the break in). 2018 was easy, press and hold TC button. LOL, It's called FUN MODE. It is different now. I don't run as heavy as you but, the ZR2 could easy do that.
Blows my mind that DV8 Taco has no locker. Like, if you're gonna mod it, throw one on.... Nice job on Cleghorn. You made that one obstacle look easy. Leghorn can vary season to season....
I like style of new Taco but do not like new power train. The Tacoma has been reliable for so many years due to it's simplicity and overbuilt quality. The 4th Gen Taco is missing that IMO. Of course 4th Gen will have it's issues it is all new. Toyota will iron issues out but at the current cost Colorado is very close in off road capability and is much easier on the wallet!
Yeah I just feel like Toyota is doing there customers dirty it’s a shame 😬 iv driven many and they are quick but it definitely feels u see built which goes against everything Toyotas dose
Had a blast out there with you guys! I’m glad I got to show off the flex💪🏽
Truck was kickin ass dude ! So much fun ! I wanna go back hahah

Finally someone with an unbiased opinion! I totally agree!
The blown transmissions and quality control issues is a big one for the tacos

Mine was a orange exclamation point I believe but that’s good to know I thought my transfer case was about to snap 😂
Pay-Per-View kind of video!
Edit: I can’t wait for the DV8 update! Your lead on this is stellar
Haha thanks man I appreciate it ! Means a lot ! I edited this video at camp the day after this trail lol videos comin soon for the bumpers!
the "!" symbol in the drivetrain indicator typically signals a warning or an issue with the vehicle's drivetrain system
I thought I was gonna snap something 😂

lol exactly ! My rig is to heavy 😂
Can't wait to see what my truck is capable of doing these obstacles!
You would cake walk them with front locker !
Had you been driving the ZR2 would you have tackled the obstacle?
Oh yeah forsure ! I was just super weighed down if I wasn’t 100% would have !
Awesome video. I’m glad to see the new taco is decent. Looks like you guys put it through its paces.
Yeah they did great ! The dv8 with open diffs definitely kick ass also ! It was a fun day

Toyota ATRAC it actually really good it surprised me with the dv8 taco open diffs !
Chevy redeems itself.
We have conquered once again ! 🤘🤘
Colorado is awesome
Thanks brotha !! 🫶
Dude crazy! I used to live real close to Cleghorn. Just by the preview I knew where you were at! I thought you were in southern az??
I am in az! I’m Just over in California for dv8 bumpers install on Monday !
Not hating im glad they made a capable colorado finally
lol the old Zr2’s were pretty capable with front and rear lockers they did the job !
🆒 trails dude! That's rough AF! My stock suspension Tacoma ain't making that trail lol. Have fun & be safe out there 💯🛻💨👍👍
Your taco could do it !!! Just take it slow ! And thanks man ! 🫶

Yes is just a aux beam switch controller ! But I have it on a badlands industries vent mount !
Another nice job ! how do you have your switch panel mounted on you dash ?
Badlands off-road has a sweet mount to do it !
Gettin the Super Flex on 💪🏼
I need more !!! Long travel please 🙏 haha
Second hill the Colorado killed it, surprisingly over the Jeep too. Low voice on the Taco performance on hill 1 was choice 😆.
😂😂😂 the jeep driver wasn’t very experienced, after I saw the jeep I was a little scared but mine walked it!

Probably could with them 37s 😂😂

That has never happened to me ever and I do 2 pedal drive all the time !
Also thanks for watchin !!
@@Downtimelost cool, that is good to hear from someone who uses it. Great content, keep it up!
Bronco seems to be doing pretty well
That’s what kates next ride is gonna be doin !
Wonder what all the popping sound from the Bronco was? Mine has never made sounds like that when twisted up.
I think it’s the heim joints on the ads suspension is my guess ! But not exactly sure lol
Looked fun!!! Good for you guys.
Such a blast !! I wanna go back !
I'm surprised you didn't get a ZR2 for the wheeling you do.
(It would be less drama and more boring for the camera, though)
Hahah yeah that’s for sure makes everything look more interesting and intense 😂
so how hot did your transmission get?
198 degrees not to bad in 4 low going slow !
Not even a ZR2!💪
Z71 makes it look crazier on camera hahaha Zr2’s would be cheating ! 🤣

ahhhh that makes sense now it’s in the home page under controls > drive and park lol zr2 can definitely make these obstacles easy !
Ahhh, I just re-watched, You have a z71, no front lockers. Good call on all your choices. I have the ZR2
@@frick-n-frack4191 yeah we could have made it but the rig was hella heavy at the time with camping gear 😂
Some lockers on that thing would be a game changer. The g80 is decent but not my fav
100% agree ! One day I’ll get one when there available!
Does your truck have the G80, Curtis?
Yes sir ! Thank god 😂 dv8 taco no locker , and other white taco has rear e-locker
@@Downtimelost man, that would’ve been rough with open diffs! Great video! Keeper comin!
@@4wdAdventurz dv8 guy was hammering it down ! Haha that Toyota traction control is actually pretty good with open diffs

Bro I gotta come visit lmao these trails look so fun!
Move to the west coast we got it all !! 🤘🤘🤘
Sorry dude, but your spotter on that 1st obstacle steered you wrong going hard passenger like that.
He definitely did me dirty 😂😂
I would never listen to him again if you would have steered into that you would have rolled haha

The Taco sounds like a diesel. And BTW I think your Z71 looks better than a stock ZR2.
lol I know right it really dose 😂😂 thanks man that makes me feel better about not buying a zr2 !! Lol
Did the taco transmission overheated at all?
Not sure dv8 guy was driving ! Dv8 sister company also has a new taco and the trans in blown but dv8 taco has seemed solid so far !
Your spotter did you dirty
Oh yeah he did 😂😂
That tacoma is NOISY! (Doesn't sound bad, just loud)
Sounds like a diesel 😂😂
I actually think it sounds really bad. Each his own I guess
@@Downtimelostlove diesel sounding truck 👍🏼
I have 2024 Tacoma 10000 miles nothing wrong
Nice ! I do like them !
Shit looks sick🔥! You were gettin real tipsy with out that sway bar on😂
A little to tippy for my likening 😂😂
If that was a zr2 would have walked up that first hill

They actually use there stuff ! I love it !
Tacoma > Colorado
Uhhhhhhhh they are just as capable and Chevys built quality is much better
Let's be real, you're scared. It's not about weight.
All the weight dose make it scarier forsure
